| Melissa Etheridge
Her gutsy electric blues-rock has earned her favorable comparisons to Rod Stewart and Janis Joplin, as well as a considerable fan base across America. Not only is she a solid live performer, but she has written several songs that have became AOR favorites since the late '80s, including "Bring Me Some Water" and "Similar Features." Although she earned some fans with her debut in 1988, her audience has increased with each new album. When she revealed that she is a lesbian in 1992, her commercial fortunes were not hurt at all; in fact, her audience continued to grow. Because it is rooted in the heart-break and turmoils of everyday life, Etheridge's music has a widespread appeal that makes her one of the top concert draws and AOR acts of the '90s. NEWS: Melissa and her partner, filmmaker Julie Cypher, are expecting their second child. Ms.Cypher is due to give birth in November 1998 | ![]() |

Exclusive interview indepth article October 1998
The term “survivor” is usually reserved for war veterans and sitcom actors, but Courtney Love has worked hard to deserve this badge of honor. At the same age when most of us were, at worst, dabbling with illicit substances and having strange nocturnal rustlings, Courtney Love had already been shuffled between homes like a chessboard piece, stripped in Tokyo for big gangland bucks & spent hard time in institutions. Love has endured life’s seamier side. |
| Hole are: Courtney Love , Eric Erlandson, Melissa Auf der Maur, Patty Schemel. Throughout Hole's career, vocalist/guitarist Courtney Love's
notorious public image has overshadowed her band's music. In its
original incarnation, Hole was one of the noisiest, most abrasive
alternative bands performing in the early '90s. Love's combative, assaultive persona permeated both the group's music and lyrics, giving the band a
tense, unpreditable edge even at their quietest moments.
Love formed Hole in Los Angeles in 1989. In early 1992, Courtney Love married Kurt Cobain, the lead singer/songwriter of Nirvana. For a couple of months, the couple were the king and queen of the new rock world; soon, that world came crashing in. Cobain became addicted to heroin and the couple fought to keep custody of their baby after a piece in Vanity Fair accused Love of shooting heroin while pregnant. April of 1994, Kurt Cobain's body was discovered in the couple's Seattle home; he died of a self-inflicted shotgun wound. |

| Ok, so Siouxsie wasn't a guitarist, but
Siouxsie and the Banshees were a wonderful band! They formed just a few days before their first gig at the 100 Club for a punk festival in September 1976. It was a 2 day event with acts such as The Sex Pistols and The Damned. They had planned to play for 30 mintues, 'til they were booed and kicked off the stage. They played The Lord's Prayer for about 20 minutes and the audience loved it... for nearly 20 years, till they split in 1995... |

![]() | With their raw, enthusiastic immaturity, the Adverts were a bright, but short-lived light of the punk era, distinguished by the fact that their panda-eyed bassist, Gaye Advert, was one of the first female stars of punk rock. After they (barely) mastered one chord, the Adverts began playing at London's Roxy Club in 1976, where they quickly came to the attention of the Damned's guitarist Brian James. James offered the band an opening spot on the Damned's tour and directed them toward Stiff Records. Stiff released their self-deprecating debut single, "One Chord Wonders," in 1977, when the band could still barely play, but when they released their second single, the disturbingly funny Gary Gilmore's Eyes (RA) |
