In 1995 Nicola gave up her very cushy job as an actress in Australia to be a musician in London and ended up working at Camden Markets. She met Matt one night in 97 after hearing him play in a Camden pub. They arranged to meet up and within the first afternoon of working together had written their first song. Both say they knew straight up the connection was there, and they should form a band. With nothing in common except a love of Bowie, Rickie Lee Jones, Hendrix, and Neil Finn,
Quilter was born.
Earlier this year Nicola and Matt set up a studio in a house in Somerset and recorded 'The Truth About Lies' - Nicola produced the album which covers many themes and ideas such as transsexual drag queens (Loosen Up), long distance love (Mercy Me), Hollywood silicon (Thinking Small), sex al fresco (Public Places), hair-cut-unlove (Kathleen), getting your shit together (Come On), false appearances (Seems), and concludes with the epic soundscape that is Sleep Dream Wake - an elegiac ballad about the cycle of life, youth, ageing, and beauty.
'The Truth about Lies' is available NOW to buy over the internet. The single 'Come On' will be available for free download from NOW!
The Quilter sound is a complex kaleidoscope of slide guitar, gritty beats, and languid bluesy tones. Their songs veer from the ghostly textures of Under Your Skin to the atomic punk of Public Places. Quilter will soon be on tour with fellow band members - drummer Richard Spaven, and bassist Ben Sargeant. Soft - Sugar - Blood - Noise - Wet Your Ears
