| Contact: Andrew SchulmanLast Update: 4/3/02Post Comment | Classical/Jazz/Pop string band, 8-string guitarist Andrew Schulman The Abaca String Band was founded in 1990 by 8-string guitarist Andrew Schulman and includes Barry Mitterhoff/mandolin, Robert Zubrycki/violin, Julie Goodale/viola, and Marc Scmied/double bass. Since 1991 the group has been the house band for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NY, and has been giving string workshops for Carnegie Hall in the NY public schools since 1996. They have appeared at the White House, the Library of Congress, the Newport Music Festival, Chautauqua, West Point and many other venues. Andrew Schulman is an internationally known 8-string guitarist; he records for the Centaur label. Since 1999, he appears every Sunday at the Palm Court at the Plaza Hotel in New York, the first solo guitarist to perform there since it opened in 1920.
