: I bought my Emperador AAW41 second hand about 10 years ago – I love the thing, just wish I knew more about that model – there seems to be lots of info out there on other models, but not this one. Anyone got anything?
HI, i have a korean made kingston stratocaster, with a 4-way pickup(1 double pickup & 2 singles) can anyone perhaps tell me where i can find any information about this guitar?\n\nThank you
Is it a Burnside Warrior? They originally sold for about 200 bucks and sound similar to a Telecaster.Does it have the lockdown system?(technically its not a Floyd Rose)One of my springs broke and eventually I had to make the bridge permanent. The only real issue I have with mine is the jack input tends to pull out and it is a real pain.I bought mine new in 1983.
Has anyone heard of tantara electric guitars, made in Korea? The brother of a friend purchased it used for his nephew, the nephew doesn’t want it, my daughter needs one, is this good enough? (It didn’t come with an amp.)Should I purchase an amp?
I found the sound I’ve been listening for all of my life coming from a Highland Dobro. Before I could stop me I bought it. Now I can’t find any information about it. Can anyone help me…with the info I mean?
I have an L.A. Guitar I received as a gift and am curious as to how old it is and if the company still exists. It has a tag that says made in Korea, and it’s a dreadnought acoustic model LA-360. Any help will be appreciated.

I have the same guitar and have the same question. Does this thing really exist or are we just imagining it?

I have a songbird 512-GB model, cant find any info on it either
Hey, this is super old by now but I just bought one from a shop a little ways away from me.
These guitars were designed by some guys in cranberry, PA, and they shipped the specs off to Korea. They were designed to be high quality guitars, for a lot less. If you need more answers, look for a shop called “the Porch” in Franklin, PA.

I have a songbird guitar made in Korea. The model no.is sb-517-gb. It is an acoustic guitar. That’s all I know about it. I did have a music instrument dealer tell me it was worth 1500 dollars. He offered me 900. I should have taken it because I can’t find anything out about it. Any info would be appreciated. Ty
I just got one of these today. A friend had it stashed in a closet for over 10 years and just gave it to me. I am having trouble finding a value, but $1500 seems excessive. Turns out, there was this guy who was obsessed with guitars and guitar music. He really wanted to be a musician, but it wasn’t working out, so he decided he wanted to be a guitar builder… But that also required time and skills he didn’t possess. SO… He started importing guitars from Korea and slapping his label on them as though he was manufacturing them here. I don’t know if he was trying to mislead anyone or just really wanted to be a part of something musical, but there you have it.
Korean built guitars seem to be sought after, since I have found whole forums dedicated to finding, trading and talking about them. I am totally impressed with the sound, playability and overall quality of this instrument, regardless of value. I’m sure I’ll keep it forever based largely on this story and the fact that it’s a quality find.
I have a songbird as well, from around 1996 or earlier I’d assume. They were korean made and sold by a company in PA. it appears that after 1996 they started being made in China for a company in Canada.
I read that online somewhere, but can’t find the site again.
does any one know who makes Tennessee guitars, i would like to import them in to new zealand. i am after a double neck, can any one help,\nor recommend other good guitars that are not well known name brands.\nSImon
: Bought a guitar when I was in Korea in 1976. Name on headstock was Gaya. Does anyone know anything about this guitar company?

YO man…My uncle also has the same guitar, he bought it here in South Africa. I have always wondered if it is a good guitar, because its damn heavy..looks cool as well.white with a red scratch plate and a kinda carved top fender strat type copy.

I am now the owner of this guitar “Weston” serial number 210779. Bought in Alachua, Fl it is black with very light tan stripes around bridge. This may have been more of a date than a serial number. I can’t find any info on it since it says “weston” instead of “westone” although it has the companies emblem. Please help.
: I hope you can help me with finding more about PAN brand name guitars made in korea. The serial # is 74040036. I think it was made in the 70’s, not real sure. can you tell me? can you help? thks, John
Hi John,
Not sure this will be of any help, but I’m replying to this mostly because nobody I have met in recent years has ever heard of a Pan. I owned a 6 string Pan steel string acoustic years ago that I acquired new from a music store in the mid 70’s. Sadly I foolishly pawned it around 1980 and can tell you little more about it other than the store it was purchased from. Maybe they still exist, but doubt they’d know anything about a 30+ year old sale. Place was called Wentworth Music in Kelowna BC Canada. Hope this helps you somehow.
Now I’m trying to find out something about a Grand Prix that was hand made in Korea if you possibly have any leads on that. 😉

Grand Prix Made in Korea Guitar Owner
Hello, I am taking offers on a 1970’s or earlier, Grand Prix 6 String guitar for sale. Label inside says hand Made in Korea, Model 7056. I have owned it since my father gave it to me in 1974. Excellent condition, plays beautifully, very lightly used. In beautiful condition. Will send photo’s on request.
Would also like to know if Martin or Fender or another guitar company bought the label or had these guitars made under the Grand Prix label for import to North America.

I have one, brown finish, incredible wood. Pickup worked well for nearly 20 years, then died. Crackling when cord is plugged in – other than that, it sounds as good as a Gibson and it was the first guitar I got at 13. I am 37 now, so mine is 24 years old.

I just bought one of these Gamma Les Paul solid body’s on ebay for 100.00 plus shipping. Best 100.00 guitar I’ve ever had! Period. Makes my Epiphone feel like a toy. However I’m a seller & after some new strings this baby will be back on the market soon.
I have a gamma les paul. bound set neck, double bound solid mahogany body, pickups are a bit microphonic but hey, its 40 yrs old. sustains like a champ and the action and neck are as good as any gibson you will see.

Mark, I finally got the Tokai back from Precision Guitar in Phoenix! I’m on Facebook (Kit McGuire) and I posted some pics of it! Turned out pretty good except they added a small volume control for the middle pickup and I still need to find a gold name plate to replace the black on white one.

: Hi Paul, one of the best copies would be the Dillion model – I’ve got one that has been customized with a Ric trapeze, vintage-style knobs, and an aftermarket Ric truss-rod cover with Rickenbacker’s logo on it.

I purchased mine from them as well. The ones that they sell are Made in Japan which are infinitely much better than the Made in Korea ones. I’d recommend them.

I had a guy that told me of another company called Fandel a Japan or possibly a Korean company that built this type of "Ric" copy.
They were sold in Michigan at department stores. He was a truck driver in the 70-80’s.
He gave a black one like you are talking about to my nephew who sold it for $150.00.

I dont know if anyone is interested but I have a 1980 Origional Rickenbacker 320 in Black for sale, everything is as it was on the guitar when it was produced and she has a few Battle Scars….the worst one is at the bottom where the paint has been worn away due to some one standing the guitar on the floor, it is big enough to see but with it being on the bottom it does not show when you are playing. The neck is perfectly straight with no twisting or warping.
There is the possability that who ever should want the guitar could respray the whole guitar or just the bottom…myself I will leave it as iut is as that add’s to the origonality of the guitar….it was imported into England in 1980 (the same year John Lennon was shot) now that could be interesting for some one that likes back tracking to try and find out who owned this guitar in the past.
If any one is interested contact by email and I will send pictures.
I am open to offers or swaps but no silly prices or rubbish please as this is a piece of history that I am selling.

: I own a model I45 and it’s my version of a Martin D32 . I found it in a local tradder paper and knew as soon as I heard it it was well worth the $100 asking price . I had new tunners installed and some elixer strings and WOW !
Last upgrade was a bridge support @ a local bluegrass festival & now I have a friend for life !! not some $2,000 piece I’d be afraid to play or take outside .
( Kam Sa Knee Da ) Korean for thank you !!!
I happen to own the W-15 since the mid 1980s. This has to be the most under-rated guitar in history. The raw volume this thing puts out will absolutely blow the hell out of any other guitar, and if set up and adjusted properly, the action is amazing. Also, no guitar I’ve EVER tried can hold tune like this thing. Once it’s tuned up, it holds it like a pit bull biting into something. I also own a Takamine, and I’ve played my share of pricey Martins and Taylors. No guitar can hold tune like this Montaya, and unplugged, the Montaya matches ANYTHING.
: I’ve owned one since the late 70’s. The W-15. It does have some awesome sound when tuned just right. I’ve hadquite a few giutars over the years but still hold on to that one. I really can’t find anything on it either.
: We would like to know more about this guitar. When it was made and How much it is worth? We love the sound it gives out. The model# is w-15.

I have a Montaya FM-32. My father, being the junk-collector that he is, found it one day and brought it home. Me, being the general music-junkie/guitar-enthusiast that I am, took it. Its strings were REALLY old (they were BROWN) so I cut them off. The bridge is peeling off, though, and the tuning pegs are really dry. I think I’m gonna try to have it repaired. It seems like an interesting guitar.

I also have a Montaya FM-32. One of the tuning pegs on mine has broken off, who knows how longs ago. I think perhaps the tuning pegs themselves on this model may be rather inexpensively made. Aside from that little fact though, it’s an overall lovely guitar.

I have an old Jackson Rhoads V "Copy"… on the head stock it says "Warrior" and has a sword going thru it… I know it was made in the mid 1980’s because it has a Kahler Flyer bridge… and it is an exact copy of what Jackson made back then… I found the Warrior Guitar Co, and I talked to them but they said that the guitar I have is not one of theirs… and they wenrt around in the 80’s… the seariel number on the back is a sticker and it has an "inspected" sticker also, witch I’ve noticed that some old 80’s hondo guitars have the same type of stickers on the back of the head stock… I also have seen a pic of Kirk Hammet with my Warrior guitar, but I can’t find the pic again… any way.. I hope some one can help… thanx

Hi I just bought a very nice made-in-korea solidtop acoustic by the brand name Nicholas. Tried to find out more about the manufacturer thru the web but nothing so far. Anybody heard of this brand before?\nThanks.
: I also have a Hyostar SJ121, but unfortunately, I know even less about the guitar than you do. Reading a few reviews about 6 string Hyostars on Harmony, it seems that they were made in Japan during the 1970’s when copying american guitars was a big thing there.
I also have a Hyostar SJ-121. I got it a pawn shop in 1995. I also have not found any information about this model. The sound is great and it appears to be a well-made guitar. I saw one for sale on Craigslist but I have not found mention of any others on the web.

(it ain’t no PRS Artist) I’m going to set mine up for slide. If I knew how to post a pic here I would. Email me for pics or more info.

I have one that has a body like a Fender Jaguar but only has a single pick-up. My mother found it at a garage sale. I refinished it and it is currently my favorate.
HI! ALL I KNOW IS THAT MONTAYA WAS A DIVISION OF CHK TRADING CORP…THEY MADE GUITAR AND BASS COPY OF STRAT

I have one in excellent condition, but know nothing about this guitar. Made in Korea. I’ve had it for 15-20 years. Does anyone\nknow of the Trump or anything about it?
Like you, I have a Trump TS-19 and it is an excellent instrument. I got it in Austin, Tx about 30 yrs ago and it is still in execllent condition. It is also from Korea. I’ve tried everything on the internet but can’t find anything about it. I have two Epiphones and the Trump plays and sounds better than either one. If you find out anything please let me know.\nThanks,\nVictor
I am soon to be the owner of an ‘Emperador guitar’… I saw it ages ago in a friends house and loved it straight away… I’m trading him a bass for it
Its a hollowbody i think, double cutaway 335 style, with massive sixties pickups, a bigsby style trem, and a mono/stereo switch,
with white/black decorative binding and it’s in a natural wood finish. Love it. Does anyone know what this model is? x
I have a Korean made aaf-37 grand concert Emperador acoustic. There is something amazingly unique about this guitar. The tone is incredible and its overall sound is very even. Mine was made in the late 80’s. I have been playing every day for 15 years. No joke this Emperador is one of the best acoustics I have ever heard. Perhaps it was a fluke accident, maybe the worker at the assembly line had a great day and was like hey I am going to make the best damn acoustic ever. Never played another Emperador before so I am not sure if this is there normal quality.
: I own a lovely Emperador acoustic guitar. circa late 1960’s. Model No. 1258??. Made in Japan by Jack Westheimer. He also produced the Kingston, Teisco and Cortez brands. Later also the Cort guitars. The Emperadors and Cortez brands were produced by the Hiyashi Factory – later brought out by Pearl in the early 70’s. My Emperador is very similar to the Gibson Hummingbird. Still in immaculate condition. Does anyone else have this guitar or similar Emperador? I’d love to get a list together of owners to see just what’s still out there and to share any information. Also whether they are of any value now? Apparently the Everly brothers used the Emperador brand and loved them.
i also have an emprador serial no 1262. great sounding guitar and also has agreat finish just a shame i can’t play it .:).Iálso curious on the value.
: I have an Emperador Mod No. 1256. I really don’t know anything about it except that it is a lovely guitar, very everley brothers. If anyone knows anything about it let me know.
i am in Australia and was gifted an Emperader 12 string acoustic in 99 it is old and has been neglected but i can tell this guitar will have a killer tone and i compare it also to a guild or hummingbird :),it’s japanese made and has a serial number that has become worn

I also have an Emporador in the hummingbird style. The model number is 12801. I have owned several different guitars and although I bought each one for their unique tone, I always picked up the Emerador. It’s like it just draws me to it. I love it, and I would never sell it.
Hey i recently inharrited a Emperador acoustic/electric modle number #26855. It was bought for my grandpa by his kids in the late 70’s. However due to health problems he could no longer play guitar. So he put itin the box and set it away. Now here i am not to long ago looking for an acoustic to play. I got tlaking to my grandpa and found out he used to play. He then took me into his basment and pulled out a box and said "here enjoy it , don’t lend it out or give it away it is very old" so i opened it and there was the Emperador good as new. It still sounds great!!!
I have an Emperador classical that I bought new off the rack at Harmony Music in Winnipeg MB in 1970 for $98.00, give or take a buck or two. It’s been everywhere with me, in fact I believe it’s the only thing I own that has been with me since then. I’ve travelled cross Canada with bands as well as the States and my Emperador came with me everywhere. Even through the transient hippie years. I still have it and still play it daily. Here’s a sample at this address, if you like: http://members.shaw.ca/holmer-at-home/some_guitar_mono.wma
I did sand down the plastic bridge piece and the head nut to get a better action. The guitar has aged very well and has a very warm tone.

i recently found a black emperador acoustic. It is black with blue hummingbirds and i believe it is antique. My email is [email protected] let me know if you are interested.
I have an Emperador that I got in the mid 60’s. I see only a 325 inside but don’t know anything about this guitar except that I love it. Write back if you have anymore info.

Hi,
I purchased a Emparador series 12101 at least 12 years ago In Jersey City, NJ. I never realized how special this guitar was or actually how old it really must be . The store where I purchased was going out of business due to I think the owners that were in business had passed away and the family was at the time selling everything to close out the business . I think I paid $125.00 at the time. The action is a bit high but Its a great Guitar.

I also have this model number 1258. I’ve had the axe for 20 years (I am now 35) and this is still the sweetest acoustic I have ever played. This guitar was given to me by a family member long since past and I still love the sound of it even if I don’t pick it up for months. I don’t where it was bough t or how long he had before me but I will never give it up. I don’t realy care what it is worth……I’m in Australia…
I just picked up an Emperador tonight...love it :-)
Michael Adcock
Hi, I picked up a Emperador like you have, and it plays so well. My Bro-N-Law came to check it out with me and he said it plays better than his Martin and Taylor and the Emperador is at least 46 years old…doh. I can’t wait until I can play it for I’m just learning. I like vintage things and this guitar rocks 🙂
I have an Emperador copy of a 70’s Dove with the blond top, cherry stained back and sides, Gibson style headstock, parallelogram inlays, adjustable saddle and dove pickguard. The truss rod cover is just like an Alvarez and says "Adjustable Neck". Great sound though it needs a neck reset and part of the bridge is coming up. I plan to repair it and replace the plastic inlays with MOP. Looks just a Gibson from a distance.
I own one got it at a pawnshop for 70 bucks a little roughed up but nothing unrepairable just a little buzz.
looks like a gibson hummingbird.
Im wondering whats it worth nowadays.

I have a late 60’s/early 70’s emperador classical guitar. it says hand made but has no model number. It is my favorite guitar. sounds and feels great though I am not an accomplished player. My mother bought it when I was a wee child and I have taken it over for the past 15 years. I play it alot and it never has had any problem. I’ve alays thought it was a cheap guitar but it sounds great. some friends of mine who are professional musicians agree that it is a beautiful playing guitar. never knew anything about it or where it was made.
I have the classical Emerador, I bought it in Toronto in 2009. Guitar was made in Japan in the 60’s early 70’s but I also heard that the later models were made in Korea. The guitar sounds great, my mashineheads are getting a bit old but other then that the guitar is great. I paid $200 I think it’s worth more. I spoke to a guy that builds guitars and he said that some of the older Japanese guitars were very well build and sounding great.
Cheers
Sorry I have no reliable info on these guitars, but i found this site trying to find info about them. I also have one of these guitars, and it sounds great. My grandma bought it back in the 60s or 70s, and gave it to me when i was 10. I just started playing it and was very surprised at its action and clasrity in sound. I’ll post any info I find.
Ihave a emperador hand crafted acoustic something 35 ,i cant make out firstnumbers on upper strut.it looks like a humming bird copy. it plays well dispite the scratches.i never new who made them or anything. looking forward to more info. were they expensive or cheap etc….
I bought my classical Emperador #225004 during my junior year high school finals in 1969. Crobsy Stills Nash and Young were my inspiration at the time… Still sounds great even tho it has a crack and ding or two…The back looks like rosewood to me…pretty good deal for $100, altho my Dad thought that was outrageous since the old piano we had cost a $100 too…!
I have a Emperador 12-string guitar. Bought in 1969 and still plays great today. It was a replacement for a Gretsch Country Gentleman I sold. Not the brightest thing I ever did! Other than some of the finish (part of the name) being rubbed of the pick guard off due to play it is great shape. Has a great rich sound. Play it regularly. I call it my "Hotel California" guitar…..
:My father bought this emperador guitar (935 0n upper strut) about 1969 It was passed down to me on the late 70’s It has amazing sound and has travelled all over Canada with me I recently passed it on down to my son who is now the proud owner. The only problem I have had with it is the bridge started to lift and caused the top to begin to bow A good luthier installed another top brace, removed the bow and it is good for another 35 years and sounds as good as ever if not a bit sweeter

Got my 1244 acoustic in 1987 as payment for a $50 cab ride in Brisbane, Australia. Traveled around Australia keeping my family and friends entertained. Sounds amazing played aggressively with super heavy strings. Should of seen my calisters.
Inside on the neck strut, there is a stamped serial number- 120201.
Any ideas anyone? $$$$$???
I recently placed the winning bid on an Emprador Numbered 707 on the upper strut inside the sound hole
has anyone seen this model, just replaced the nut the original was plastic and cracked so I upgraded to Bone
was missing a couple Bridge Pins replaced them with a bone version as well, seems to have a big Bass, but left on Vacation this morning, so as yet have just strung it and tuned it, has anyone seen or know of this model
Cheers
Bought it today. $150, Nanaimo, Vancouver Island. The tuning pegs are beyond stiff, so it will be in for an update this week. That said, for the 30 seconds it was in tune – lovely. Round label – which I guess places it as made at the Hayashi factory late sixties to very early 70s. Number 528 stamped inside. Not sure if that’s the model number, serial number or production number. There was a small piece of torn paper taped inside the guitar that read 280 yen. The tape had yellowed over time. Two pencil marks inside one on either side – the number 24. Interestingly the numbers were not written in Japanese. Anyway… just thought I’d add to the list on this page. Best to all. Steve.
HI Steve:
I have the same model stamped as #428. It was purchased by my wife (girlfriend at the time) as a Christmas gift, in a music store in Ottawa in 1965. It’s still in very very good condition and is played on a regular basis. Everything is original including the tuners – has never been in the shop and will stay in tune for hours. See you’re in Nanaimo, great city – our niece is at UVI training to be a nurse and she will probably stay on the island when she graduates next year; she loves it there. Best regards. Al
I’ve owned my Emperador for 45 years. Serial number 1617 is stamped on the inside of the sound hole. Like everyone else there is a Rondel glued to the inside that says Hand Made but I was not able to find a model number. I’m not sure how old the guitar is as I am not the original owner. I rescued the guitar from a dumpster. There were no strings on it and it was missing 3 tuning keys. It was played hard as the edges of the pick guard have hack marks from the pick. I took it back to the barracks and found someone who new something about guitars and picked up the required hardware to make it functional. The guitar has played at numerous house parties over the years. It has plenty of volume. The thing I like most about this guitar is the narrow neck that makes playing the guitar easy. I’ll be keeping it.
I have picked up a beautiful mint condition emperador AW-14 6 string.
Made in Korea & red in color. Looking for information on this great sounding beauty
I believe is from the 70’s. I have seen by these old posts that these are great sounding guitars and everyone loves the one they own. Any history of the company. Values or anything would be appreciated. Thanks
I ‘m still looking for info on the 12string Emperador that I bought at a pawn shop a number of years ago that I am in the process of repairing and putting it in playing mode again. Still would like to find more info on the maker, country made ,year and other related info. I would also like to buy any Emperador guitar regardless of the condition E- mail me at the above address!
I have been searching for more info on this guitar but I was not able to find out more than what was posted on this site .If anyone has or knows of more info, serial # ,model # ,etc please contact me at the following email. [email protected]
Thanks !
Hi….I’m Jeff
I picked up my 12 string Emp several years ago while searching for a general good 12 string acoustic. I ended up looking at this thing, which was badly in disrepair. I explained to the “seller”, who had had it in the back of a walk in closet for decades, all the things it would need. He was honestly clueless, and called me back as I was on my way back home. He GAVE it to me (was asking like 100 bucks I think) because at that point, he just wanted to see it appreciated. I went back, picked it up, and spent the next month or so doing what I could for it.
Cosmetically, her “looker” days are long gone. But she plays nice and relatively easy for a 12…BUT MOST OF ALL, she has a uniquely “jangly” sound, which I attribute to the “zero fret”. All who play her love her distinct sound.
My research has her being a 60’s baby…”Hand Made” in Japan.
Have you found out anything else about these guitars?
Jeff McD
I have an Emperador acoustic too, beautifull guitar, burst color, nice pickguard with flowers, no numbers, no model number.
Just a round label, says handmade.
The action was very high higher upon the neck, and the trusrodd doesn’t do enough.
I shave the bridge down to lower the saddle , beautifull rich sounding guitar!
My parents bought me an acoustic Emperador guitar in the mid-60s. I took lessons and really enjoyed it. I’m picking it up again after all these years to try my hand and take more lessons. It has the round sticker inside with Emperador, Hand Made. The serial number 463 is stamped on the inside of the sound box on the upper reinforcement.
I’m enjoying it again – still plays great and after many moves (college, marriage, divorce, empty-nester), it’s a joy to play.
I have one acoustic guitar Emperador Model FW415 (made in Japan).. anyone know about it? there’s not much information about Emperador guitar rather mysterious for me LoL.. is it a rare guitar? Anyone who know about it?
I own a Emperador 12 string Model number 1242 made in japan, adjustable neck and bridge in pretty good conditions just needs a bit of loving care and attention so just starting to get it back into playing shape. Any more info on it welcome.
i bought a second hand emperador guitar in a pawn shop model number 1248 serial number 71000
in the 80s i have many acoustic guitars and think this is the best sounding one i have.It is a perfect replica of a martin that i have.would any one know how old it would be.
cheers Paul.
I was happy to see your comment – My brother passed away and left me the exact same guitar you described in your comment. I haven’t as of yet found any information that fits that guitar other than it was from the late 60’s into the 70’s. It has been neglected for years but oddly enough which resulted in my search was that it is still true, neck was as straight as an arrow and intonation is still accurate. A good cleaning and new strings it should still sound half good.
Hopefully yours is still playable and I am hoping you enjoy it as much as I will mine.
I just bought this model at a yard sale in a hard case. Very beautiful and though I’m a novice it has a nice sound. Was this model made in a certain year? Would be interested to hear more about it.
I was given the same model (AW 41) made in Korea as a gift from a buddy of my Dad’s… Its cracked on the side and needs a lot of work but it has a nice tone… It also has a mysterious signature on the back that is kinda worn out, but the initials are definately KB. I can’t find any Info on the guitar or the signature! Its probs some rando, but I’d really like to know! Haha
I bought a second hand emperador guitar in a porn shop model number 1248 serial number 71000

I was given an Emperador 12 string acoustic guitar by my father. It has a round label inside that says hand made but no year or date. Just inside the hole is a number 0460 that I assume is a serial #… Can anyone give me some more information about this guitar? It seems to be a 60’s or 70’s model but it’s definitely an older guitar. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
I recently bought an Emperador 12 string acoustic guitar with the round label in the sound hole but no numbers . I need to lower the action but the truss rod seem to have been severely abused and turning the nut with a hex key towards the left( counter clockwise) ,it turns very easily as if it does not turn anything inside the arm. Does any one know what type of truss rods were used in these guitars ?
Does anyone have the same guitar and be willing to correspond and exchange info ?
E- mail:- [email protected] , my name is Jerry
I bought this Emperor when I first got out of college in 1970. I am now lending it to my granddaughter, who is a beginner. It has a round label in the sound hole that says Emperor Handmade, plus a serial number stamped inside. It has a lovely sound. I know nothing of it’s valuable. I probably only paid 50 dollars or so for it originally-dont remember. It’s in good shape. I enjoyed reading these posts to learn more about the brand.
I just bought a emperador 1258 from an opportunity shop in sydney for $60 with a hard shell case. Timber bindings and made in Japan. Love to know more about it.
Seal number 071000.
Cheers rob
I still have my Emperador acoustic dad bought me around 1966? No serial number just “Hand Made” I’m not sure when or where he got it, but I do know I was playing it in my elementary talent show in 5th grade. A beautiful sunburst guitar with a fancy pick guard (my favorite feature) still has a great sound. A little nervous about parting with it for repair work yesterday. I always cherish this guitar, I’ve had a Martin a Kay and a Yamaha, but this one I’ll keep and pass it down to one of my grandchildren one day!
I have an Emperador Ukelele. I bought it at an antique shop about 20 years ago. Would like to hear more about the history of these, as I only found Guitars, not Ukes, on the Web. Thanks. It also says “handmade” inside of it.
I acquired one of these lovely guitars at a thrift store for $22 … damaged, with cracked headstock, 4 tuning keys missing, 7 bridge pegs present, some dings. Has double Dove pick guards. Have just finished repairing the headstock, preparing to apply finish. Seems to be in good condition otherwise, and even with the broken headstock, it still carried a tune. Can’t wait to play it after repairs~!
I bought mine used in 1970. It’s a large body, looks like a Gibson Hummingbird. Lots of hitchhiking around Canada, still plays and sounds great. Even the pickup works. I would never sell it.
i’ve owned an Emperador acoustic guitar since my parents bought it new when i was in high school in the 70s. it has a great rich tone. there is no label or serial number or model number inside or anywhere, just the name Emperador painted on the head.
my recollection was that it costs $50 in the 70s, and i thought we were told that it was handmade in Mexico. based upon what i see in this thread, perhaps it was handmade in japan or korea, but the people who obtained it for us definitely were Mexican
Depending on the model, they were Gibson knockoff’s. Marketed out of Chicago. Check out the Guitar Medic website. By the way Gibson sued them for infringement on their Patent.
I have a small out of apt repair business. in Miami,Fl , used to be a TV teck. I am 70 years old now and this give me a reason to stay alive. I love what I can do with old guitar amps and guitars. I bought this emperador guitar on ebay because of the fancey pickguard. Its was only $ 25.00 because of high action. I had to grind down the bridge and lower the adjustable saddle. I was empresed with the construction and the sound. It has a label but it just saids hand made. No model of location of production. But who cares. My phone number in south Miami is 305 232 6790 if anyone can give me any info on this guitar. Happy Trails to you all.
emperado ac60 model 3/4 in size.its a accoustic classical
llee
It has nylon stings on it, you can,t put steel thats what the guy saaid when he set it up and new stings on it and a new saddle.he didn,t know that much about it.
I have two emperadors, one is a 1964 dreadnaught the other a 1963 “concert” size. (I only know the years because I purchased them from the original owners) Both had the bridges lifting. I repaired them both and to avoid any further bridge issues I put trapeeze tail stocks on both of them. They sound wondefull and I play them pretty much every day.I would not think twice to pick up another one (or more). They are difficult to research but the sound is comparable to any high end acoustic.
I recently picked up an Emperador copy of a Gibson Dove (not sure if it’s Japanese or Korean made), but it seems to be around 30 or 35 years old based on discoloration of the binding, slight splitting in the binding, etc. Other than that, it’s in really good condition and has the fancy bridge (adjustable) with the two doves inlaid and split parallelogram inlays on the fretboard. It sounds great and plays great.
I have and Emperador Classical Guitar which I bought about 50- 60 years ago. The label just says Emperador Hand made. It has a beautiful tone and I was seeking its value if any one can help.
Ivan.
Hi I just recently purchased a emperador guitar looks like a Martin copy plays great inside it just says emperador hand made guitar it has some letters looks like wozoz can anybody tell me something about this guitar thank you vito
Your guitar should have a model number located just inside the sound hole.. If you look deep inside at the base of the neck.. Use a light it will help.
Hey all,
I have 2 emperadors, 1 les paul model electric guitar and 1 bass gibson sg model. Both are natural coloured with black striping and inlays. Makes a nice couple, unfortunatly the bass has seen better days, frets are worn and it has significant damage to its body. The guitar is in better shape and plays surprisingly easy, though the electronics and metal hardware are not top notch.
I bought my 12 String guitar when I was stationed in Germany while in the Air Force. The model is F007N, SN # faded out. It is still in great condition. I need the ajustable bridge. The screws are stripped. Can anybody tell me where I can order the parts. Thanks in advance, Fred
Received this beautiful Emparador 12 string electric accoustic guitar on my Birthday 45 years ago , mint shape , best sound ever.
Tried many others and none can match the sound.
Hi, I have a similar 12 string as yours that I’m in the process of repairing after a very hard life and ended in a pawn shop where I found it . Some frets are missing and I want to replace all of them but I need the retboard radius . Can you help ?
I have a 12 string Emperador accoustic that I bought in 1963 and is in immaculate condition with original Hard case and would also be keen to get a value as I am considering selling on ebay as I havent played for years due to hand injury but have had since I was a teenager and worked after school to save up for it and paid about $66 but was pounds back then. It has only a few Plectrum scratches on acrylic plate otherwise as new condition.
Mine was handed down to me from my grandfather about 15yrs ago, I believe he purchased it in Winnipeg MB (no idea when) # on inside strut is 929. Out of my 8 or so guitars this is the one I still pick up everyday, its been battered and bruised and even has a crack the whole width of the back from being used as a weapon in a bar fight (not by me) but still sounds and plays great.
I knew nothing about guitars when I bought it. I got it from a second hand store in Michigan and the guy told me that it was an “antique” made in the 70’s.
The square Label inside shows a Model no. of ‘F007N’ and a Serial no. of ‘I’ (I think. the letter is kinda worn) made in Japan. I paid $350 for it in 2010. I’m pretty sure I was taken for a ride now that i know what I know about its typical 12-string condition issues but it still looks great, is stringed up as a 6 and sounds pretty good. It has a uniquely shaped, black pick guard with goldish designs. The designs are flowery with a butterfly and the silvery Emperador logo in the middle is slightly faded. The finish is amazingly shiny and in great condition.
I was hoping that it would be worth something some day but its hard to determine the worth when there is so little information on these things. Like I mentioned before it has a couple condition issues ( broken nut, bulging top, missing tuner, few scratches ) and I’m wondering if I should fix them up or just keep it as is..
I have an emperador 1256 in a beautiful original case, As it’s one of too many guitars in my collection I’m thinking of putting it on ebay but have no idea of its value, any suggestions would be appreciated. rgds, Mike
Hi Mike, I know this is an old thread but I was curious how you went selling your 1256 model Emperador on ebay. Not much info about these available.
Looking for a similar type and would love to know the current expectations in prices.
Kindest regards. Ozi.

I was interested to read that you have acollection of Grimshaw guitars, how many, and which types? I am in the process of setting up a web site http://www.grimshawguitars.co.uk
Which should be up and running in about one week or so. I too have a small collection of these guitars and I agree with you that some were not so good and others were exceptional. Please contact if you have any photos or information which could be used on the web site.

Any information on the Les Paul Burnside imported by Guild. I believe it was made in 1987. Nice guitar, just can’t find out anything about it.

I was told that this Weston guitar was a Korean guitar, but I can’t find anything on it. Anyone know?

Thank you!

I have one, brown finish, incredible wood. Pickup worked well for nearly 20 years, then died. Crackling when cord is plugged in – other than that, it sounds as good as a Gibson and it was the first guitar I got at 13. I am 37 now, so mine is 24 years old.

I have a gamma les paul. bound set neck, double bound solid mahogany body, pickups are a bit microphonic but hey, its 40 yrs old. sustains like a champ and the action and neck are as good as any gibson you will see.

Looking to sell a Korean 325 “Lennon” model with Ricky headstock and Bigsby tailpiece.

: Maybe you can help us with the questions. We hope to hear from you.

: : I KNOW A GUITAR TEACHER IN NYC WHO HAS HIS STUDENTS USE THIS GUITAR OR IT MAY BE AN F-10.
THE FEW TIME I HAVE PLAYED IT I WAS BLOWN AWAY BY ITS ACOUSTIC SOUND.A BEAUTIFUL GTR. THE TEACHER HAS BEEN AROUND A LONG TIME SO I AM ASSUMING IT IS A VERY OLD GUITAR.HE TOLD ME IF IT IS SET UP RIGHT YOU CAN GET A SOUND THAT WILL COMPETE WITH ANY GUITAR OUT THERE.MY FIRST GTR TEACHER 25 YRS AGO HAD ONE TOO. I TOO AM TRYING TO FIND OUT MORE ABOUT THEM..I DO BELIEVE THEY GO BACK MANY YRS AND WERE A KOREAN CHEAPIE..I WILL INVESTIGATE FURTHER.IT JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU THAT ITS NOT HOW MUCH YOU PAY FOR SOMETHING.

: I also have a Hyostar SJ121, but unfortunately, I know even less about the guitar than you do. Reading a few reviews about 6 string Hyostars on Harmony, it seems that they were made in Japan during the 1970’s when copying american guitars was a big thing there.
Bo
I also have a Hyostar SJ-121. I got it a pawn shop in 1995. I also have not found any information about this model. The sound is great and it appears to be a well-made guitar. I saw one for sale on Craigslist but I have not found mention of any others on the web.
I just got a Hyostar sj121 12 string at a thrift store yesterday for $25. I’m kinda curious if it has any value
I have a Hyostar 12 string acoustic guitar, model SJ-121. Although I have found some information on Hoystar guitars I haven’t been able to find any information this model. I would appreciate it if someone could help. Any and all information will be helpful. It resembles a Martin D12.

I just picked up a Zimgar. It has a slightly smaller Jazzmaster shaped body w/ one single coil pickup. Everything on it works & it seems to play fairly well.
(it ain’t no PRS Artist) I’m going to set mine up for slide. If I knew how to post a pic here I would. Email me for pics or more info.

If anyone knows anything about it let me know.
i am in Australia and was gifted an Emperader 12 string acoustic in 99 it is old and has been neglected but i can tell this guitar will have a killer tone and i compare it also to a guild or hummingbird :),it’s japanese made and has a serial number that has become worn
i was keen to know if anyone could recommend somewhere for good parts as i have decided to restore it to full glory, mainly after genuine parts is the prob…a long shot i know 🙁
i have used this guitar as a home jam option and was glad to find out some information in your post ty i believe its a 1268

Here’s a sample at this address, if you like:

I did sand down the plastic bridge piece and the head nut to get a better action. The guitar has aged very well and has a very warm tone.

I have an emperador the has a serial/model# W-16a could anyone tell me what it is wort?
I own one got it at a pawnshop for 70 bucks a little roughed up but nothing unrepairable just a little buzz.
looks like a gibson hummingbird.
Im wondering whats it worth nowadays.
ps: its serial number is 855

Cheers
I have a Emperador classical guitar Model SC 5. I was given it as a gift in 1973.I am still playing it. Anyone have any info on this model?

I own a lovely Emperador acoustic guitar. circa late 1960’s. Model No.
Cheers
I have an Emparador. F011, maybe an early one. Great sound but needs some adjustment.
Jeff McD
Does anyone know what size bridge pins go in an emperador acoustic guitar?
I was given an acoustic Emperador guitar for my 13th birthday in 1971. It was made in Japan. It’s a great guitar. I still have it.
HI,I have an acoustic emperador. Ac. 60 I can’t find any information on it. Much appreciated if anyone has any information on this particular one.
Regards – Randall
I was given this emperador # AAW 41 made in Korea does anyone know anything about them!

How interesting. I came here looking for information about a guitar that fits your description. The number just inside the hole on mine is 0461
I recently bought an Emperador 12 string acoustic guitar with the round label in the sound hole but no numbers .
I have this guitar, bought in 1970! Still in pretty good shape! It resembles the Gibson Hummingbird!
They are difficult to research but the sound is comparable to any high end acoustic.
keep on strumin’
Greets from the netherlands.
I bought my 12 String guitar when I was stationed in Germany while in the Air Force. The model is F007N, SN # faded out. It is still in great condition. I need the ajustable bridge. The screws are stripped. Can anybody tell me where I can order the parts. Thanks in advance, Fred
I have lead on a 12 string Emperador guitar that I really like !
Are they worth buying,do they increase in value,do they stay in tune ,
????????
Received this beautiful Emparador 12 string electric accoustic guitar on my Birthday 45 years ago , mint shape , best sound ever.
Tried many others and none can match the sound.
It’s a keeper , antique , any suggestions ?
R.J.
Any suggestions?
I have an emperador 1256 in a beautiful original case, As it’s one of too many guitars in my collection I’m thinking of putting it on ebay but have no idea of its value, any suggestions would be appreciated. rgds, Mike
Hi Mike, I know this is an old thread but I was curious how you went selling your 1256 model Emperador on ebay. Not much info about these available.
Looking for a similar type and would love to know the current expectations in prices.
Kindest regards. Ozi.
I was given a Harrison Model SF-18 acoustic guitar. It looks just like American-made Martins. Is anyone familiar with the Harrison brand? Thank you.
