Hi,
Just a wee bit of background about myself I am
29, and have been playing guitar/bass for 15 years .
Throughout the years I have had Gibsons, Fenders,
Rickies, Yamahas, Ibanez, Washburns etc… and was
generally very happy with what I had at that time. I
then discovered B.C. Rich guitars and was hooked.
They beat every competitor in every dep., build
quality, sound, variety of woods, pickups etc, support
was fantastic and so on. I then began to collect more
B.C. Rich’s and haven’t been disappointed with any of
them.

Serial number on back of guitar reads: 52338398. Headstock is 6 pegged on same side, bolt-on neck, dot fret markers fingerboard. No markings on headstock other than BC Rich sig and the nut cover reading Warlock. Just snagged it from a pawn shop for my friends’ 13 year old son. Axe is in great condition, but feels older rather than recently made. \n\nAny help anyone can provide re: date of manufacture would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

There is no back plate. It is smoothed out bolt on with the serial numbers put into the head stock. It’s a reversed head 89 gunslinger with made in the USA next to the B.C. Rich logo.
Recent find. B0654 neckplate. Made in USA on headstock. \n\nAnyone know the year and if it’s for sure a USA guitar?\n\nViewable here: \nhttp://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250385180020\n\nThanks!

: Does anybody know if this model was a custom job or regular production? I can’t find mention of one anywhere. See link below.
: http://www.bcrich.com/retro_artists/tom_araya.html
That Wave Bass was custom made for Tom Araya from Slayer. It has gold hardware and a J/B -pickup configuration. I don’t know if de electronics are active, but there’s only three knobs on the body : probably Volume, Bass and Treble and a 3 way toggle switch the select the pick-upp so I’d say the bass is passive.
Tom used this bass from the South of Heaven album until the Divine Intervention album. After that he used Hill basses for a few years.
In fact: Tom also used another Wave Bass on the earlier Slayer albums. It was a standard Wave bass with 2 P elements (white colored) and a regulair headstock with two tuners on each side. Electronics were passive.
You can see Tom using that bass on the Ultimate Revenge Video that was released in 1985. You can find the songs on you-Tube. I think that the white colored P bass pick-ups were replaced by black colored pickups. (probably EMG’s)

it was a regular production cause the bass player from Death
plays the same one with a reversed head stock, but this video was back in 1988. so im sure it is out of stock or you can search the world for one.

Thanks! Always loved the reverse headstock. I know Sean yseult from White Zombie had a BC Rich as well with a reverse headstock but not sure it was a wave
Forgot about this, wanted to chime in. Tom’s first Wave is a NJ neckthru Wave. Reverse dual p pickups. Had EMGs,and a Badass bridge around Reign in blood. As late as 1991 he still played it live, with a Kahler fixed bridge. His reverse headstock Wave with the spear inlays, and P/J pickups I believe to be 1987 made. USA Custom. It had a couple sets of pickups. Dimarzio, EMG, I believe it had a Badass also, and then a Kahler fixed bridge. I own a near twin to his reverse headstock Wave. It’s the only other one. I wish I could add a photo. Cheers!

Bought this from a individual about a year ago and im looking for more info about the year it was made and maybe the value of it.It has the "R" on the headstock not BC Rich name, Serial number B007447, im 100% sure the number after the B is a zero not an O as in B.O. for Bolt on neck although it is a bolt on.I have looked all over the web and can find no info or serial number matches for this particular guitar. Thanks for any feedback.
You won’t find any info on this serial number system,and the usual websites are invariably wrong on what they tell you about the import and USA stuff anyway.
The bass you own is a JE series bass,JE standing for Japan Edition,it wasn’t supposed to leave Japan,it’s probably recent,but without the model #,I couldn’t give you a clue about value,sorry
ok ive been seaching for the year of my warlock and i have had no luck so can someone give me some insight on were to look of hell maybe some of you know what year it is! 22960 is the serial number im thinking it was built when classic axe own the company but i may be wrong

Thanks\nI think there were more than 230+ that made it past customs. Then the lawsuit over the Rico name came into effect. They’re really the same as a US made in all aspects. They were just put together in Japan and shipped back to the U.S…. I saw one a week ago that was $800.00. I think that’s a fair asking price for one almost mint. If it’s mint, $1,000 would be a good price. I paid $350 back in 1993 for the one I used to own. I kick myself in the ass everyday for selling her! Hope this helps.
Where this guitar is made? Assure that of Japan, whether but so it?

This popular thread has been given its own page : BC Rich, candy apple red acrylic warlock
Hey all, I need your help. We purchased a BC Rich, candy apple red acrylic warlock for our son a few years back. He is in a metal band called Dead By Wednesday, maybe you have heard of them. They have just put out their second Cd and have recently been reviewed in Metal Edge Magazine. This guitar was stolen a few years ago. Fortunately we found one in Texas on ebay and purchased that for him. Well, in a recent accident, this second guitar was knocked down and the headstock broke off in such a way that it cannot be repaired. He has replaced the neck with another for now but we are looking for a brand new guitar or perhaps someone out there actually has a neck that will match. Any information you can provide will help me greatly. This guitar, under lights on stage, makes such a statement and is very impressive. He has actually become known for using it and his fans love it. Please let me know if any of you know where I can get one…thanks for your help.

My friend’s dad recently bought a Lefty BC Rich Platinum Warlock from the local Guitar Center. When we bought it the guy said that it was haard enough to find in righty, let alone lefty. We’ve been trying to find out what year it is but have been unsuccessful. The serial number is 11113 and is on a gold plate at the base of the neck. It’s two toned wood, gold tuning pegs and knobs, and has a bolt on neck. If anyone can help me figure out the year I’d appreciate it. Hi, I just wanted to let everyone know we have a real treat up on the bay right now- a 1984 BC Rich Custom Shop 6 string Bich in trans red. Varitone, Imperials, and my favorite part- TWO preamps! Check it out if you are interested.
Hi, I was wondering if anyone can help me identify this guitar I had bought for me when I was about 14 or 15. That would make it about 1989 – 2001 model. Serial Number is BC20544. It has a Floyd Rose Tremelo, Rosewood Fretboard not sure what brand pickups etc.. I would love to get more information on it as I am considering selling it due to it not getting used anymore. A realistic evaluation price would also be brilliant. I can supply photos if needed. The shape of the body is pretty much just like a strat. Definatlely not a warlock or mocking bird or any of the awesome designs. Just a pretty plain looking BC Rich other than the fact it is hot pink.
did you ever get rid of this guitar?
Was wondering if anyone can help me out.. I just bought a Neck thru Gunslinger… Has a 5 dig serial number…90686… It has a Single Coil EMG in the neck position and a EMG Humbucker in the bridge… one Volume knob and a 3 pos. Sel. Switch. Hey guys, I have been wondering about my Warlock for quite some time. I am the original owner, and bought it not too long after I started playing in the mid – eighties (I think)\n\nI haven’t been able to find any information about my type of Warlcok and wondered if anyone could help…\n\nIt is a "Platinum Series" and it say "Made in Korea" it is a bolt on, with a "Flip-Flop" Purple, Pink, Metallic finish. Its serial number on the neck plate is "E701233" and it has two humbuckers, a volume knob, tone know, three way switch and another small toggle that is either coil tap or phase reverse on the bridge pickup… it has black powder coated hardware, and one of the cheapest looking locking setups of all time.\n\nI was wondering any history on these models that anyone might know, or an approximate date of when mine was built.\n\nThanks in advance,Bill

I bought my bc rich warlock used for guitar center, and it played great for the first two hours then it just stopped making sound. so i took it back and they did something to it and worked from then untill about 4 months later when you couldnt hear any sound when my amp was on distortion mode, and you could barely hear it without distortion with the volume all the way up. then i took it back to guitar center and they looked at the wiring and said nothing looks wrong with it and said i would have to pay for a perfessional to fix it. but i havent had enough money for that and its been over a year now, and i want to play my warlock! i really think it is the wiring, could i fix it myself? i have tried to find bc rich warlock wiring diagrams but they are impossible to find! where can i find them?

Albeit late response, if you would like me to take a look at the problem, you can send me an email and we can talk about it.
As a note, generally, the people at guitar center, aren’t really professional. They all have varying degree of knowledge in the world of instruments.

This popular thread has been given its own page : BC Rich Warlock NJ Supreme FOR SALE!!!!
Hello, I found this site by looking for an approximate value for my guitar before selling it. From what I found out, my model of the warlock was only made for 1 year. It is a black NJ Supreme Warlock NON BEVELED edge, with off white border along whole guitar body. I purchased it new around the year 2000-2001, I forget exactly. The headstock had a very small chip at the very tip, from hitting a ceiling at a show with it. I fixed it though, and it’s hardly noticeable. Everything is stock. Has a Floyd Rose locking tremolo, all black hardware. Guitar is in Near Mint condition. I also have a coffin case from BC Rich for it, which obviously would be included. Serial # on the guitar is : F2031404 (for authenticity’s sake)
Anyways, if anyone’s interested in the least, contact me VIA EMAIL! ([email protected]), chances are that I will forget about this site and not check here too often. Make me an offer, or ask for pictures, I will be happy to comply. Thanks!!!!

Hi…I would love to know the year of my guitar…the serial number is I60546. thanks
If someone can help. I have a BC Rich Guitar warlock body style. Only thing I can not find out when it was made . Made in USA it says on top of head stock. Model # B 8769. Back plate says LA county USA. Only one volume control. Any body know anything about this one?
Thanks for any help.
: In the year 2000, they changed to the letters "BO" (Bolt On) and three digits (B0XXX), which was the actual production number, but there was no number stating the year the guitar was built. The import guitar models before November of 2000 have a serial number starting with the letter "F", the USA models do not.
: F7XXXXX (1997)
: F8XXXXX (1998)
: F9XXXXX(1999)
: F0XXXXX (2000)
: In November of 2000 B.C. Rich implemented a new date stamp format for serial number coding of it’s imported models. . This started on the January 2001 models. All B.C. Rich models, both imported and usa handmades implement this same year time date stamp and guitar production number format:
: 121XXXXX first digit = year of manufacture
: second digit = means nothing until double-digit years get here again

I have a guitar that I won on KNAC back in 1987 with SN BOXXX which means that SN starting with BO were used much earlier then 2000. She is in pritty good shape except for the fact that I tolk her to get some work done and the Guitar Doc located in south Cal returned her to me with the wrong plastic head peace that covers up the truss rod. Never going back there.
I have an NJ series Warlock I got in a trade, which has become my favorite guitar. I’m not really looking to sell it, but am curious to find out more about it. Although this is the best source for info I’ve found for the serial numbers, I still can’t make sense of mine… it’s on the neck plate, and the entire number is 0002070611. I’m not sure if there are extra numbers here, or if some don’t mean anything?
Thanks in advance for any help! PS- if you’d like, you can email me directly at [email protected]

Hi, I have a Iron Bird and the serial starts with I70281, It’s an import for sure but, what year as made? can someone help me
: I have a bc rich his serial no is i50071 but i dont know the typ and made of year please help me
My Ironbird has almost the exact same serial number as yours. Serial number=I50325, bolt-on, neckplate says BC Rich tm, L.A. California U.S.A. What I think is that it is made either in 2000 or 2005 (judging by the 50 in serial number) and that mine is the 325 guitar and yours is the 71 guitar. Since a proper 10 years have passed, have you found more information?
All very confusing! I have a warlock that I believe is closest to a MK3 with a reverse headstock. It’s serial number is I50192. Not an Ironbird and the ’50’ can’t mean 2000 or 2005 because I bought it second hand in 1999. Despite the neckplate saying what it does (same as yours) I suspect mine isn’t authentic. Doesn’t matter, was the first thing I bought, didn’t pay much for it and have had a lot of fun. Just curious to know though if it’s a legitimate lower end or a replica with a questionable plate. Doesn’t seem to be much consistency with serial number conventions.
I’ve got this exact guitar. Looks like a MK3, but isn’t. Reverse headstock, smaller BC Rich signature with no other info.
The serial on the backplate is I90117.
Will be pretty gutted if it isn’t an official BC Rich considering it was a gift from the wife that she bought me way back in early 2000. I know she paid a whole month of wages on it, which was around 1000 bucks.
It has never sounded exceptionally well, tbh.
Did you ever find out what the I means? Is it a knock-off?
Thanks.
Well this is weird. I’ve been trying to identify my Warlock for years. Serial I50192, bought in the late 90s, early 00s I can’t remember. Paid £75 for it, sounds amazing. Would it be worth having a chat? If I can confirm this is fake, well I’ll be disappointed but then I won’t have anything holding me back selling it.

I am not good with computers and am not sure if i’m doing this right.BUT I recently bougt an older B.C. Rich guitar #E707190.It is sort of a razor back body style, and says platinum series on the head stock.I would like to learn a little about it’s history and maybe it’s value Iam also interested in knowing about the little hole on the tail piece.It looks like it was for a tremelo bar ,but there is no pivot ing in the tailpiece,Also,whats up with the extra smaller toggle switch?
we just came into possession of a similar guitar and was curious if you ever came across the answers you were looking for? If so could you please get ahold of me by my email address cuz I have a couple questions for you thank you

This is good information, I just re-acquired a guitar I originally purchased in 1987 a BC Rich ST Platinum (I believe) the serial number is E711028 which looks similar to your E707190, I’ve scoured catalog’s and pictures and have found NOTHING that looks similar, anyone have any idea on these serial numbers?
I have one of these as well. I remember being told that the toggle switch was for changing the humbucker p/u to a single coil operation. I can’t find any other information on it. Could really use a wiring diagram for it. #E621377
I just bought one today as well. Platinum series. What I can tell is its a late 80’s early 90’s guitar. mine has a strange tremelo. not a fixed nor a kahler or floyd rose.
I’ve just came across a similar situation. I just received a Mockingbird w/Kahler Trem, 1 hum, sideways "R" on a six-in-line headstock with a "U09xx" serial number. Small, raised "U". Very wierd, and there’s NO info on this anywhere I can find. Would GREATLY appreciate help. I was told that it’s a 1986 USA, but that’s all I got. Thanks!!!

I’m close to buy a Warlock LA California with the serial number I60195. Anyone can tell me where it was built?
Hi,
Same for me, did you get information?
Regards,
Julien
My son bought a BC Rich Warlock from a guy and I am just learning to play it. I am looking for any information on this guitar (Date made, Original owner, etc.). It does not have a stamp on the back of the headstock. All the hardware on the entire guitar has BC Rich on it. I have a photo of it if needed. Can anyone help with any information?
I have the same problem on my Zombie and I read that the early (1980’s) BC Rich guitars had a sticker on the back of the headstock with the serial number on the sticker, which explains why we can’t find a serial number. The stickers are long gone but we know that they’re vintage eighties, which is great.
I have one too that i just bought 3 days ago. It is serial number 32330677. It’s all black and only has one volume knob, and no whammy bar or switch to change pickups as there is only one pickup on the guitar. I want to know the date it was produced. If anyone has any information please share. Thanks!!
Hi, I have a Warlock Platinum Series with serial number: E708081 but I can’t find some info about it. 🙁

The numbers on my guitar at 42231579. Can’t find anything bout it. Can someone please help me

IMPORT SERIAL DATING INFO 2007+
As of May 27, 2007 a new serial number system was developed for use on all B.C. Rich, Michael Kelly Guitars, and Traben Basses. Numbers were devised for the factory, month of production, year, etc. Below is an example of the number scheme. First is the month code letter:
MONTH CODE
A = January
C = February
E = March
F = April
G – May
H = June
J = July
K = August
L = September
M = October
N = November
P = December
Next is the factory number.
Next is the year code which is 10 for 2010
Next is the production number
Here is an example:
F14100023
The serial number shows that this guitar was:
(F) – Made in April
(14) ? Factory Number #14
(10) ? in 2010
(0023) ? and was the 23rd guitar made for BC Rich that month
I have a Warlock with the serial #32100334. There is no stamp on the headstock. All the hardware on the guitar has BC Rich. My son got it from a guy and I am using it to learn to play the guitar. I can not find anything about it. I would love to be able to find out the date of manufacture and who originally owned it or just anything. I would really appreciate the assistance.
I also have a Warlock with an 8 digit serial number can’t seem to find any info on it.
Not quite sure how I missed this. Probably because it was just posted….”7 years ago” but hey….Who’s counting right?
…Right??
There is a lot of good info here as well.

Disappointingly I don’t own a rare one of a kind extremely expensive guitar, but I am happy to own a B.C. Rich with such an interesting history.
Thanks
Read this entire thread, still have no idea what I have.
It’s a black Warlock, neck plate says LA California (serial) B 6970, has “Made in U.S.A.” after the BCR script logo on the pointed headstock.
Where? When? Anything?
In some cases the serial numbers are some what meaningless. Not all have a BC in front, in a lot of cases they just have a B then the serial number. In some cases the made in USA is NOT on the headstock… but this is REALLY early stuff.
Paul Unkert was the guy that ran Class Axe, and knew what went on in BC Rich before they took over the deal. He did most of the work on my guitar and will swear up and down, it’s a Wayne Charvel neck, and he’s probably right as this neck never moves…LOL
The deal here is this a BC Rich ST3 , they only started making this in 1986 and that’s when I bought it! I have the bill of sale for it!!!!!
The serial number on it is only B0276… that’s it, this possibly the 276 guitar made, but can’t clam that..LOL
From what i understand, they did not think the guitar would sell, they cut the bodys but got the necks from Wayne Charvel.
The factory was about to close and go to Class Axe….. they did not put “made in the USA” on it, pretty much only a bigger BC Rich logo maybe.
When they started putting usa made on the logo.. i don’t know. Not like there are not made in the usa, but again these people were looking to be put out of work. When the CA plant was shut down.. i don’t know. Class Axe took over in 1989…
I bought a guitar at K&K in San Francisco in 1986. It has NJ on the headstock denoting that it was built in Korea. The serial # is B 3099. The neck stock is all black with triangle inlays on the rosewood fretboard. It seems like all the neck stock that I see online is natural covered with rosewood. I have not located any guitar that has the same neck structure. Any info you can provide would be appreciated. Best.
Hello Mr Thurber… I’m trying to learn more about my bass which is a Warlock NJ series I bought new in 1984 or 85 and has the serial # of B 4933 on the neck plate has the BC Rich logo then LA California USA…If I’m on the right trail is it a 84 bass with a run of 933 ??? is it made in USA?? ANY INFO WOULD HELP. THANKS FOR YOUR TIME.
I have a Magenta Coloured Gunslinger, Platinum with the serial number on the neck plate as 7262. That’s all.

I have the identical model I think. Black, Japanese NJ series, Longer inline stock. S/no R-84xxxxx
The NJ series were only made in Japan between 83 and 86, so I’m guessing the year code in our serial numbers is fairly correct.
(apologies for multiple replies if the others show up finally)
Looking to buy a BC Rich (supposedly a platinum series, poss Gunslinger) Has tremelo,locking nuts. A dbl and 2 single pu. All of which are totally enclosed and passive. Hi,
I might be able to help you identify your guitar. If you can email me photos and a serial number I can ask
My friends that work for BC Rich
[email protected]
I been looking for a replacement part and was asked for info including serial number so the guitar store could locate parts (bridge magnets). I think I have found the serial number on my KK.Would the number on the fretboard be the serial number or is it somewhere else on the guitar? Also, do they really need the serial to find replacement parts or do the idiots think I stole my own guitar?
Hi I have a BC Rich guitar that I can’t find any info or value on it. There is a plate on the guitar wwhere the neck meets the base.it has BC Rich and. MO1070012. Hi, I have a Bich Calibre that has a serial #85000238. This is supposed to be an in between import and hand made U.S.A. guitar. The electronics are cheap to say the least and I’ve had a ton of trouble making it sound right! I replaced the nut and bridge and now I’m going to change out the pots to CTS and orange drop cap. I’m wondering if I got a counterfeit guitar. It does have the R (guitar shaped) logo on the headstock and Schaller tuners. It also has the nice thick quilted maple top. Did the Czech builders use crappy pots and does this serial # reveal anything? Any help here would be greatly appreciated!
Hi. I have a bc rich warlock which has no serial number, just a blank black plate. Black hardware. Pickups don’t say bc rich. All the guitar has is bc rich on the pointed headstock. 22 frets. It has 3 knobs for vol treble. And selector switch.
Any help would be appreciated.
My guitar is supposedly a 1987 custom made gunslinger with the serial # C920180 ~ of which I can find NO information on ANY bc rich with a starting serial # of ” C ” so maybe it stands for ‘custom’ ? but the serial # also seems to have an extra numerical digit totaling 6 instead of 5 digits, so…? the original price tag (in the mid 90’s) was $1680~ I have no idea what it is actually worth and didn’t pay even close to that for it.
Whyguy,
What you have is a CLASS AXE era gunslinger. It was made in 1992 being the 180th made that year hence forth the serial #C920180. It’s a handmade USA guitar as Class Axe began producing the handmade guitars in 92 to 93. Does it have a neck plate or is the serial # stamped in backside of the headstock? Email me a photo of the front and back if you can please.
I have a warlock with serial number
C304215 does that mean it was the 4215th guitar made in 1930? Definately not…so the first 2 digits doesnt work if the C means class axe on all of them..BC Rich is the hardest guitar I have found to try to date..Serial numbers are so screwed up….
Any Help?

Any BC Rich guitar with an R in the front of its serial number is an Ed Roman fake.
Ed Roman was a BC Rich dealer back in the 80’s. He purchased a couple of body blanks from BC Rich, copied them, then slapped the BC Rich name on them and his own serial number, then sold them as BC Rich guitars when they weren’t officially licensed, manufactured, or endorsed by BC Rich. (yes he did that with a few other guitar manufacturers too, got sued for it.) He started adding all kinds of electronic effects to the guitars as a ‘customization’ but what it really comes down to is that any guitar with the R in front of the serial number is an Ed Roman fake. It’s not worth anything on the collectors market, but if you’re happy with the tone, feel free to play it.
CLASS AXE USED R in serial number on BC Rich import guitars….READ……..
The Bolt On guitars serial numbers started with “BC” followed by five digits (BCXXXXX). Between 1989 and 1993 Class Axe took over production of B.C. Rich instruments and also used the “BCXXXXX” numbering scheme as well as “RXXXXXX” for it’s imported models. Class Axe did make some USA instruments of very good quality. Once again, the guitar will indicate that it was made in the USA by the “Made In The USA” stamp on the headstock. These will also have a small “TM” next to the script logo.
BC Rich was using the R prefix on serial numbers to indicate the guitar was an import long before Class Axe got involved or Ed Roman bought Class Axe’s unused stock. The original “R” prefixed guitars were made in Nagoya Japan.
We have a guitar that has a semi-naked lady on it. We took it to a shop and the most they could tell us was that it was factory made and was rare. Does anyone have any info on it the serial number is 61005539. The brand is BC Rich. its not the Vampilore. The design has a naked lady with chains and some other stuff in the background. Please let me know if you know of anything

I have a bc rich serial # BC12163 the neck plate says B.C.Rich with a small tm at the bottom end of the script above the serial number. Under the serial number also on the neck plate it says LA California U.S.A. the head stock says B.C. Rich in script but doesn’t have the TM like the neck plate does but it.does say MADE IN U.S.A. under the end of the script right where the TM is located on the neck plate. Has 2 single coil pick ups and a double at the bridge all with there own switches and a B.C. Rich Floyd Rose tremelo. I believe its an ST III but it doesn’t say that anywhere on the guitar. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. I bought the guitar in the early 90s 91 if I had to guess. It has been my main guitar and plays and sounds great but I have no info at all and just recently became curious. Thanks.
