BC Rich Temple of Worship

Hi,
Just a wee bit of background about myself I am
29, and have been playing guitar/bass for 15 years .
Throughout the years I have had Gibsons, Fenders,
Rickies, Yamahas, Ibanez, Washburns etc… and was
generally very happy with what I had at that time. I
then discovered B.C. Rich guitars and was hooked.
They beat every competitor in every dep., build
quality, sound, variety of woods, pickups etc, support
was fantastic and so on. I then began to collect more
B.C. Rich’s and haven’t been disappointed with any of
them.

I have a BC Rich NJ Series mockingbird with a Kahler Flyer 2300 bridge . The neck plate reads LA California U.S.A with serial number B3952. The neck is a bolt on . Black Body and hardware. I was was wondering if the guitar is US made.
    Thank You!

    1. I have a Warlock with the same setup. Serial number B9261. I understand that it was probably assembled in LA as the plate suggests but I am looking to unload it and would like to post a fair value for it so I don’t rip anyone off. Any help is appreciated.

I would like to know about my NJ Warlock with the same setup you guys have, S/N B0036. Does anybody know what year or where these were made? Great playing and sounding guitar. If you ever find one cheap, as I did, grab it!

          Hello all,

Those are not USA guitars. The “NJ” designation stands for “Nagoya, Japan,” which is where BC Rich made this series of guitars until 1986-87, when then production shifted to Korea under Class Axe, which is when BC Rich’s quality really started to get shaky. One of the easiest ways to quickly tell whether its an 80s Japanese made NJ or an 80s Korean NJ (if the sticker is missing) is the Kahler. No Japanese made NJs had the licensed Floyd Rose factory installed. The very first year of Class Axe NJ production (1986ish) they still used the Kahler flyer, but then switched to a licensed Floyd Rose. Pricing really depends on the condition, any mods/upgrades that have been done, case/no case, and your market. I ran across a players condition (scratches, some minor paint chips, some dents) black NJ Warlock with a case, a seymour duncan in the bridge, and the Kahler Flyer tremolo for about $150 at the Music Go Round in the Quad Cities, but I’ve also seen some on Evilbay for about $200-300.

          1. I have NJ Warlock B4030 I bought at Sam Ash in NYC 86 or 87. It is beat to hell but still plays well. I replaced the pickups back in the 80s with EMGs. Amybody know what wood it is made of?

  4. BC Rich Bich - late 80s?
    Tom V

Great site you have here! I have a custom USA made BC Rich Bich and the SN is 90770. I am almost positive I bought it in 1988 but I cant recall the exact time but I am trying to get the year because I will probably sell it on ebay one of these days.

At the time it cost a lot of money and I remember ordering it from a guitar store in the Chicago area and then waiting almost 6 months for it to be built and shipped.

Here is a link to a photo if that helps:

  5. BC Rich NJ Series Virgin
    Brandon

Just picked up an NJ Series Virgin from some guy on Craigslist for $150. It plays nice, unusually smooth for a rosewood fretboard. Has Floyd Rose, widow headstock, diamond inlays, but cheapo BC Rich dual humbuckers (though they don’t sound that bad).

    SN is F2110450

I can’t find much on these F serial numbers. Any ideas?

    Thanks!!

      1. Thanks for the reply Lorne!

I’m a bit confused though.. this guide seems to state the opposite.

“”In the year 2000, they changed to the letters “BO” (Bolt On) and three digits (B0XXX), which was the actual production number, but there was no number stating the year the guitar was built. The import guitar models before November of 2000 have a serial number starting with the letter “F”, the USA models do not.

        F7XXXXX (1997)
        F8XXXXX (1998)
        F9XXXXX(1999)
        F0XXXXX (2000) “”

By this logic, wouldn’t mine be 1992? How can F2XXXXX and F0XXXXX both bean year 2000?

        Thanks again for your advice!

        1. Simple

          F2xxxxxx is the year 2000

F0xxxxxx never seen one, have you?

F0xxxxxxx seen them, have no idea what year they are, possibly 2000, who knows?

Count the “X’s” Your’s is a 7 digit number and the last one is an 8 digit number

Also, the Widow headstock was NOT used on imports back in 1992, only on the Customshop Widow, The use of the Widow started in the very late 90’s on Imports

Where did you get the serial # guide? Dolphin Music?

          1. Yeah, I got the info from the Dolphin serial guide. Not a reliable source?

I’m still kind of impressed that it’s 12 years old, and is still in such good shape. It doesn’t have a knick on it. It plays quite well, and the pickups sound great (though that could largely be attributed to my amp). I might switch them out though, haven’t decided yet.

Wasn’t trying to question your expertise, was just curious if the Dolphin guide was accurate. I didn’t notice that the last serial had 8 numbers instead of 7.

Do you think $150 was a good buy for this particular guitar?

            1. Yep, the Dolphin Music website was full of inaccuracies, not been there in a while to see if they have altered it, I doubt it though

I’ve been using B.C.Riches since 1985 and currently have 9, 8 of which are Customshops from 1978 to 2007

I don’t give valuations, but if YOU think the $150 you paid for it was a steal, then that is all that matters right?

              Enjoy the guitar 🙂

      1. thanks so far i was looking
        skinny

        thanks so far

i was looking at the bc rich site for pictures, but cant find pictures of the model i have, only at the handcrafted section has pics of my model. but since it was japanese build, i gues it’s not from the handcrafted series ??? ;o( ??

        1. The current owners of B.C.Rich are Hanser Music Group (HMG), they have only owned it since 2001, so no they won’t have your instrument on their website and No, it’s not a handmade

  6. Early 90s BC RICH bass info.
    Anonymous

    Hey!

Recently my bandmate passed on his old bass to me.

From what I have found online it looks like a 24-fret Bronze Warlock 4-string bass.

The only difference is that I’ve been unable to find a pic of one with a reverse headstock like mine.

The bridge hardware and body colour is black w/2 single coils, the tuning keys are black and the headstock is printed with BC RICH and nothing else. The neck is brown with stock fret dot markers.

The reverse serial plate has ‘Made in California USA’ plus the serial number (which I forgot to note before I left interstate).

Would’ve been bought around 1993 in Australia.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Pic available.

    Cheers.

    1. It doesn’t state “Made in” ANYWHERE on the neckplate, it simply reads “California U.S.A.” on it, this is to show where the parent company is from, NOT where your bass was made

  7. Snake Skin B.C Rich ST-III
    Scot

I am currently restoring an early 80’s model ST-III with the three switches that control the pick-ups. The wiring has been trashed. I am in need of a picture or diagram of the wiring. Can any one help me?

    1. I have two US ST basses. A Snakeskin US Gunslinger and a regular US ST. Did you mean two switches to control the pickups and 3 knobs? Assuming that you do have a US ST and this is what you are talking about I would be more then happy to take some detailed photos of the wiring of both of my basses (one is set up stock, the other with EMGs) and send them to you. Also, im sure I can find other pictures of the wiring on these basses in my pic archive if I looked hard enough.

Also, please send me/let me see a pictures of this Snakeskin bass! I have a sort of fetish for Snakeskin STs.

        Scot

Derek, I am talking about my 6 string guitar. It has a Humbucker and two single coil pick-ups controlled by 3 mini-switches. 1 volume knob and 1 tone knob. When I bought the guitar it had Bartolini pick-ups in it but the wiring was trashed. I am putting EMGs in it. The finish on the guitar is perfect. The guitar is gutted right now but I can send you a picture any way if you’ld like.

  12. Year 2000 Halloween Edition B.C. Rich Value
    scottcooper

I’m looking to get rid of my B.C. Rich in favor of a better guitar and was wondering how much it might be worth as a trade in. The serial # is H2000-028. Its in nearly perfect condition because I hated playing it. The neck (as with most bolt-on warlocks) sinks like a stone when I let go of it. Configuration is: 24 fret, single bridge humbucker, string-thru body set bridge, crescent moon inlays with the year 2000 at the 12th fret, 1 tone knob and 1 volume. Shiny black finish with dark red binding, and widow headstock. I know its hard to assign value without a picture so just assume its in perfect condition with a very small crack in the tip of one of the widow peaks (approximately 1/4) this crack has been repaired and is barely noticeable.

I have searched all over trying to find info on this damn guitar. The only thing I have found is a guy selling one on ebay but the head stock is different.http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-1982-Bc-Rico-Bc-Rich-Seagull-II-2-WOW-/160514722244?pt=Guitar&hash=item255f6c49c4. This guys is a BC Rico and mine is a rich with NJ series under it. Also the serial numbers are the back are different. Mine has a silver stick that has been clear coated over with R83XXXX. I just don’t understand whys hes got seagull II on the description. I’ve been looking all over the net for pictures of seagull’s and seagull II’s and none look like this guitar. Anyone have any info on it or if its worth anything? The guy on ebay wanted $1300 but I’m assuming that’s because his serial is a 4 digit and the rico instead of rich makes it a lot more valuable than what I have.

  15. Warlock Platinum Series (black) reverse headstock
    JB

I am the original owner of a Warlock Platinum Series (black) reverse headstock, purchased new at Guitar Plus during summer of 1991. Haven’t seen another one with the reverse headstock. Wondering if anyone else has one of these, and what it might be worth. Assuming it may be more on the rare side.

    1. Warlock Black with Reverse Headstock
      Dave

I also own a black BC Rich Warlock Bass with the reverse headstock. Mine is a 4 string bass, made around 1987-1989. Serial Number is 29632.
As I understand it, the 1st 2 digits represent the year made, and the last 3 digits represent the production number.
Not sure which digits represent what year, so I am not sure what year the “29” in my serial number designates.
I know they came with P-J EMG Select pickups, and the reverse headstock was an additional option back then for $10.
Mine also included the BC Rich Gig Bag, which is shaped EXACTLY for the Warlock body and the reverse headstock option.
I purchased mine from a pawn shop back in the 90’s.
Any help on the serial number would be appreciated.

Note: here is some good info on the warlock, just not exactly what I am trying to find out, in terms of production year:

        IronWolfe11

I have a 80’s Warlock Platinum as well. Crackle finish with reverse head. I can’t find any more info on it other that what I can see for myself lol. I’d like to narrow down the year a bit, and find out what country it was made in. It’s an amazing guitar, fun to play, but I just want to know a bit more about its history.

  16. I need help classifying my own Warlock. :/
    The Dude

Hello, I’ve had this Warlock for about 8 years now and the funny thing is…i don’t know exactly what kind it is. I’ve searched everywhere to try and find a picture, it’s crazy. There is no other guitar like this one i think haha, i Googled my guitar so many times and i can never get an exact resemblance of mine. I knew it was a pretty high class Warlock for its time. It’s weird because it’s missing all the goods that Warlocks have now like stock EMG’s and a Floyd Rose Bridge but it has they style and individuality that none have today. \n\nFrom what i know now it’s called a B.C. Rich Warlock, the pro platinum deluxe series, It has a set through neck, Widow headstock, diamond inlays, Dual BCR Humbuckers, 2 volumes knobs, 1 tone and 1 three-way toggle control. It’s glossy black all over, no whammy or Floyd Rose bridge. 24 jumbo frets, i don’t know what kind of wood, id have to say a Mahogany wood body, there is no silver or chrome on it, black bridge, knobs, machine heads, everything except the frets and strings haha. \n\nSo that’s about as far as i can go with explaining of my axe, i really hope someone finds some info. about her. She is such a mystery haha. So i would truly appreciate if someone could email me if they found out information on my axe, if you need a picture just email me and i will attach it. Thankyou and keep on shreddin!!

i have the bc rich warlonck platinum edition too but i cant find it online and that is because of a rumor i heard that may or may not be true, that they do not make them anymore because of something to do with Korea but i can help you get the year and stuff if you would send me the serial number and then you have a better chance of finding out more about you specific model. my email is [email protected] i have just verified the year and quarter and number in manufacture so if i could do that for you and it would help i would be more then hapyt to do it!

  17. what series is this Warlock????
    Rob

I bought this Warlock off a guy who didn’t know what series it was so, he sold it to me for $200, reasoning that even if it is one of the cheaper series at would still be a fair price and if it’s a better guitar, then I win. I have seen a few guitars with some of the features but not all of them exactly. The neck is a bolt on, but not with a metal plate, it looks like the bolt on installation on my Ibanez Jem and my Jackson Kelly (larger screws, counter sunk) it has 24 frets, diamond shape fret markers, reverse headstock, grover tuners, floyd rose bridge, 2 humbucker pu (black with no markings) 3 knobs and a toggle, the headstock only says B C Rich nothing else,\nno markings on the truss rod cover either. The serial number is B0088XX. Any help would be appreciated.

  27. I bought this Warlock back in 86. It says Handmade in the USA on the back of the headstock with the serial # 89478. It’s a neck thru model with a Kahler tremolo system. Can I get some info on this. Is a LA model or NJ or what. I can’t find any info on it.

  29. looking for elvira warlock bass and blood smear bass
    adrian

ive been looking for these basses for a while with no luck. i should have bought the elvira when it came out, the one im looking for was a platnum series i think came out possibly 4 or 5 years ago. ive also been looking for an early 90s bass that was white with a blood smear paint job. i think they were warlocks and maybe gunslingers. i also think there was a virgin the first and second year class axe offered it. i could be wrong though im getting old. i ended up buying a black bolt on usa bass instead of the blood smear warlock because i was a couple of hundred too short at the time and ive regretted never getting one (though i probebly cant afford one now either).

    Katana Rogue

Hi all! Unfortunately, I need to unload one of my guitars. This guitar was made for me right after BC Rich opted not to make the thru-necks anymore (90/91) so does not have a serial number on it but *is a thru-neck. It’s got a Floyd Rose. \n\nCan anyone suggest how much I should ask for it?\n\npicture at: http://www.katanarogue.com/yellow.jpg

  33. BC Rich Calibre Warlock with Seymour Duncan
    Davide Di Mauro

Hallo,\nmy "made in Europe" Calibre Warlock has two Seymour Duncan humbuckers instead of the Rockfield pick-ups (which should be the regular ones). Since BC RICH staff members told me that in Germany those guitars come out with SD, do you know the exact pick-up model?\nThank you.
