BC Rich Temple of Worship

Hi,
Just a wee bit of background about myself I am
29, and have been playing guitar/bass for 15 years .
Throughout the years I have had Gibsons, Fenders,
Rickies, Yamahas, Ibanez, Washburns etc… and was
generally very happy with what I had at that time. I
then discovered B.C. Rich guitars and was hooked.
They beat every competitor in every dep., build
quality, sound, variety of woods, pickups etc, support
was fantastic and so on. I then began to collect more
B.C. Rich’s and haven’t been disappointed with any of
them.

Any one know where I could get a new headstock with turners or just a way to keep it in tune better. Its makeing me crazy. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any ideas. Thanx

      ROCKWOOD (via moderator)

B6866 is a bolton neck instrument. While there are a few Bxxxx neckthru instruments, they are a totally different series starting with a 1 or 2. The only value in these is player enjoyment. While that may be priceless, none of the imports bring any resale value at all: even the neckthrus. The top dollar is on USA neckthru instruments that are natural (clearcoated). Even the USA solid colors aren’t bringing much money. The current state of the exotic wood market might have alot to do with this. Afterall, it is a rare Rich that isn’t just a flametop today. 1. Re: Bich Serial
      ROCKWOOD

Well Steve it really could go 1 of 2 ways, a pic would decide it almost imediately. Around 1976 USA Models began to appear with a 5 digit SN: the first 2 digits represent the year of manufacture – at least that was the plan. The trouble with this plan didn’t become obvious until BCR’s popularity drove production up over the 3 digit Sequential SN’s limit of 1000 per year (999 + 000 = 1000 numbers used) Rather than revise the SN code, BCR just let it ride. The end result is that the SNs got ahead of themselves so that my 88151 was made in 1984 & IF your Bich is actually 82013 it was made in late 79 or early 80. Those SNs were stamped into the wood on the back of the headstock – at least before Class Axe came along. They really weren’t always stamped very well; then, adding paint &/or clearcoats naturally didn’t help. Of course that’s the best case scenario. Now BC32013, if this is your SN, can be stamped into a neckplate for a guitar with a bolted on neck. There is also a series of import neckthru guitars that had a sticker SN on the back of the headstock: I have never seen one with a 5 digit number though. Write me. Send a pic or 2. We’ll take it from there. ROCKON! Bart

  18. BC RICO neck thru Eagle (need info!!!)
    Mark Detl

Can somebody pass along some accurate info about a Bc Rico Eagle?. I purchased it used in 1988ish and was under the impression it is from mid 80’s or so. Made in Japan i have heard as well. Serial number is 820007. I have seen that there were Rico’s made in 1977 which I wouldnt think the one i have is that early, and also only about 150 made or so. Were there any made after this year, such as the mid 80’s. Thanks for any help you can provide as this has baffled me somewhat for years. Also, any idea what the value of this may be in rough estimates. Thanks guys. MARK DETL

    1. Re: BC RICO neck thru Eagle (need info!!!)
      Todd

The Rico name was used in honor of the founder whose name was, I think..Beneto something Rico. He changed the company name to Rich for marketing reasons. When the founders son took over the company he came out with an american Rico and about the mid 80’s the Japan import. The line was abruptly halted when the Rico Reed manufacturer threatened a law suit over the name. They dropped the line and later came out with the "NJ" Series. The Rico series had neck through, 24 fret designs and true to thier vision, some wild shapes. Best info I ever got was from the company direct who said that depending on the model, they made anywhere from 150 to 300 of each. The Rico black wave bass is very rare. As far as value, the Rico series don’t seem to be in high demand. Nice, quality guitars. Hope this helps. Good luck

      1. Re: BC RICO neck thru Eagle (need info!!!)
        ROCKWOOD

I have no proof of anything concerning BCRico; though I am extremely interested in finding out. If you press the right buttons hard enough you might get past the ‘pat answer’ I’ve had to accept: "those records were lost in a flood." To that end, I began an Archive listing every BCR by SN possible. In order to prove the feedback, pictures of the body & headstock both front & back are required, as well as a pic of the SN. I don’t give out much info. I don’t even keep the data with the pics. I do try to help people date their instruments. My only real success being in the USA models. I can tell you 3 things about Ricos, so far: 1) Although the initial import run may well have been 150 before a name change, this does NOT address total production at that time. 2) BCR, after winning the lawsuit over the name ‘Rico’ apparantly did use it again, even though BCRich & BCRich NJ Series were in production. 3) Although it IS my opinion that these early imports put Fender & Gibson to shame, I have seen where the USAs are a cut above, even showing PRS the trouble they have with their compromises. Now, a good USA BCR will fetch from $700 to $7000 depending on model, features, condition & wood quality (Beauty of the woodgrain.) However, I must be the biggest fool on the planet because, I paid $700 for mine. I went 14 yrs hoping for another, after mine was stolen in 1988. Let me tell the truth: it’s hard to get the $400 I paid back in 1986 for that first one. I’ve played everything from Ampeg AEB-1 to Rickenbacker. I’ll keep my G&L B1000 because it was a graduation gift (first series in 1981!) I’ll keep my current Rico because it’s in mint condition. I’ll jam on my USA Koa Eagle cause it’s all the Rico is above the others plus a little more!

    1. Re: Help identifying a wood two-tone mockingbird with four digit serial number?
      ROCKWOOD

The best sources of info are traditionally the manufacturers. Unfortunately that is not the case here. There is a certain set of 6 digit SNs & most all 5 digit SNs that are USA. These are the ones that have been kept up with and seem to matter, at least where value & collectabilty are concerned. The early imports were made with a Maple neckthru design with Maghagany wings. This appears to be true whether it was finished in clear or not. Also, traditional sources say that there is no rhyme or reason to the SNs of early imports. Personally, I know they knew what they were doing, because the instruments speak for themselves & are a cut above whatever Fender & Gibson offered. Please send pics of yours, including front, back & SN. Since the story is, "All records were lost in a flood." I’ve been trying to collect enough data to make sense of the history of these wonderful instruments.

  23. The "ORIGINAL" Stealth
    Dr. Willy

…So happens, in a previous life, I reviewed instruments for a number of music mags. One day I found myself in the apartment of a most pleasent dude named Rick Derringer. Da man had, right there, the first three (3) prototype Stealths to be produced. (In case ya didn’t know, the goobers at Gibson refused to make this axe for Rick, however the brilliant Bernie R. accepted the task.) And he proceeded to loan me one (a nice gloss white job with a rosewood neck and an electronics configuration that you’ve never seen as it was changed before final production began) for review.\n\nTime passes. I dial up (no ‘effin cell phones back then) Righteous Rick one day and offer to pop over and return his guitar. Ya know what he said to me? "Hey man, you know, the stuff you wrote was real nice and the model has changed just a bit for production…why don’t you just keep it. Have fun."\n\n…So anyone interested in this absolutely mint and beautiful playing guitar? I thought so. You got the e-mail address.\n\nLater.

R834974 Appears to be a bolton neck version, based on what I know of the price paid and the SNs I’ve collected in your series. I would like to hear that your 83 model is a neckthru. I would love pics of yours front, back & SN.

  28. B.C. Rich black acoustic???
    Mirko

Bought an older 6 string acoustic BC Rich in a pawn shop a few years ago & thinking of taking it in to get worked over. Anyone know ballpark value &/or any info about this baby? Black, big & deep, lacquered, model# BW-2500BK, no other serial number or info…bought in Toronto Canada. I’d post a pic, but not sure if this is possible.

  29. Help identifying a Rich required.
    Midvalley

So yeah, I bought a Bc.Rich guitar today, and was wondering exactly what the model is. I know that it’s an exclusive model guitar, and strongly resembles the FT1 in body shape, hardware, and knob/switch location. Differences are that it uses dot inlays instead of the bars I see on the pictures of FT1s, and the headstock is Richs full size 3-per-a-side, instead of the small 3-per-a-side I see on these pics. Serial number is: F2051559, and it has a bolt-on neck and is korean made.\n\nAny help in identifying it would be appreciated, just to satisfy my own curiousity. I love the feel and tone of the guitar, otherwise I would never have bought it, I would just like to know exactly what it is.

  30. Where can I get everything to rebuild BC Rich Virgin
    Arts

Please help:\n\nI have a B.C. Rich NJ Virgin Electric Guitar with Widow Headstock and literally need to purchase all electronics and hardware — where can I get each part, item by item, I need to purchase and how much will it costs? I need everything except the wood…) \n\nYour professional advice / experience: Is there a better way to rebuild everything for this guitar?\n\nThank you!

  32. Older NJ Warlock mystery
    KJ

I recently purchased a NJ Warlock at a pawn shop for $175. Serial Number 30933. It has a non-Widow headstock, but it isn’t the traditional pointed headstock either, nor does it look like the old school headstock. It has the Floyd Rose trem, three knobs, and three toggle switches on it. It is in very good, but road worn condition, with a Jackson Humbucker and an EMG pickup on it. Any idea when this bad boy was made? I can’t find info on the serial number anywhere. Any help would be appreciated.\n\nThanks,\n\nKris

  33. valuation & age
    Spock

I have a BC Rich Warlock NJ Series Serial # 8861. It is in great shape and plays well enough that I often pick it up before my Steiny or my les paul. Trouble is I have no idea what year it is and have had numerous people try to buy it from me, but I have no idea of its value, can anyone help me out? It’s a great guitar, but the graphics are pretty hideous.\nSpock

    1. Re: valuation & age
      ROCKWOOD

Warlock NJ SN 8861. Since you said it has hideous graphics, I’ll go out on a limb & venture it has a bolt on neck. SN probably starts with a B or BC? These are usually worth more to a player that likes em as a keeper than you could hope to get for it or replace it for. Unfortunately this is also true of the very early neck thru imports as well — many of which feel & sound just about as good as the old USA neckthrus.
