BC Rich Temple of Worship

Hi,
Just a wee bit of background about myself I am
29, and have been playing guitar/bass for 15 years .
Throughout the years I have had Gibsons, Fenders,
Rickies, Yamahas, Ibanez, Washburns etc… and was
generally very happy with what I had at that time. I
then discovered B.C. Rich guitars and was hooked.
They beat every competitor in every dep., build
quality, sound, variety of woods, pickups etc, support
was fantastic and so on. I then began to collect more
B.C. Rich’s and haven’t been disappointed with any of
them.

  2. Older B.C Rich Warlock info?
    Miles

I just recently bought an older B.C Rich Warlock from a friend of mine.I was wondering if anyone could help me with some background information. It’s a hot pink platinum series(older platinum series with hockey stick neck and six in line tuners)Warlock. The serial number is 3250.It doesn’t say where it was made.It just has 3250 on the neck plate.

Just picked up an older BC Rich bass (4 string)\nIt has one S.Duncan pickup and one has rocker switches on it…\n3 pots and 2 switches on the body…\nIt’s shaped like this:http://www.edromanguitars.com/parts/bodyblanks/images/bodyblank_bcr_bass2_900.jpg\n\nThe plate says LA California U.S.A. \nSerial # B 7489\nThe headstock says MADE in USA\n\nIt looks like the neck has been off before, could someone have bolted a USA neck on an import body? I have no idea, any other ways to tell if a body is legit?\n\nAny help would be GREATLY appreciated,\n\nThanks,\nSlayer

  4. How Old is my Warlock Bass?
    Wes

I recently acquired a warlock bass which is pearl white and has an arched headstock with stylized B and C on both sides of a RICH that goes down the headstock. Bass is rather heavy. Body has some slight dings on it. The man that sold it to me says its ‘more than a couple years old’. It has two tone knobs that are covered in plastic (?) and look cool. Above the pickups is a little piece of wood to rest your thumb on. The strange thing is that it is an NJ bass (overseas made, apparently) and has, under the bolt on neck, a metal plate that says BC Rich California USA. The Serial Number is B5844.\n\nAnyone know how old it is? It sounds sooo nice, deep, and the nylon covered strings make it so smooth.

  6. Older BC Rich Warlock
    Chris

I have an older BC Rich warlock, wondering what year it might be from or how much it would be worth. It’s NJ Series but is not neck-thru and does not have the speed loader string system. It also doesn’t have a widow headstock, but rather a very triangular and sharp looking one. It it blood red, with the neck painted to match the body, has all black hardware, and a very good locking tremolo system. It has also been modded with dual active EMG humbuckers and has very intense tone. Any responce as to the possible value or year of this guitar would be appreciated.

      NotVeryHelpful

well w/one hum. one knob, floyd rose that would be a gunslinger(not assassin)and guessing from the ser# is probably from the late 80s. though i don’t know where you would find the wiring diagram for it.

    Andrew Richard

http://www.canvas42.com/rico/\n\nI have a BC Rico Acoustic from 1983.\nI have never seen another one.\nI have never heard of anyone with one.\nI have never seen one for sale anywhere.\n\nI am interested in the woods, Solid or laminated, and\nwhat types of woods are used. Mandolin Brothers in NJ\nonce told me the back looks like Jacaranda wood from Brazil.\nI think the neck is Mahogony with an EbonyFingerboard.\n\nI paid $359.00 for this acoustic in 1983 and was thinking of\npossibly selling, possibly keeping. The problem I think is\nthat the value is probably not too high, but to get the same\nquality today will cost $1000-$2000 if your looking at Martins or\nTaylors, or Gibson.\n\nIf anyone knows the history / wood info / or current value…\nI would love to hear from you.\n\nIf anyone wants to consider purchasing it \ncheck out the photos.\n\nSerial Number available if you want it.\n\nPlease email an answer as well as posting a reply\nas I dont always check this forum…\n\nHere are the photos:\nhttp://www.canvas42.com/rico/\n\nGood Days To Ya …\nAndrew Richard

I have the same guitar purchased 1981 around $250 – less ornate, model # RW-2A / dot inlays instead of clouds / no pearl on saddle / single herringbone on back instead of double. Like you, never seen / can’t find much info.

Interested to know if you were able to find more info anywhere??

Hey guys, i bought a RW-6A BC Rico acoustic in 82"
I have never seen another BC Rico acoustic!!
I would love to know more about my guitar if you have any info.
          I love it.
I paid around $700.00 for mine and haven’t found another acoustic( of any brand)for less then $2500.00 that even comes close to mine.
I know that this is an old posting , but i just started to try to find out where my guitar came from.

          1. I just read your posting. I’m the proud owner of an RW-6A BC Rico acoustic myself. Great tone and playability, although I haven’t tried a lot of other guitars. My brother was the original owner… he bought it from Bellone Music in London, Ontario. He thinks he paid about $600-650 for it.

I have the Same Model as you Richard… I bought it the week John Lennon Died (sad coincidence, I’m sorry to say) Dot inlays, no pearl / single herringbone.
I can’t find any info, other than there’s about 150 that wer e shipped that year prior to the bc rico / rich name change.

I’d love to know more about it, if it’s worth something to someone else other than me.

  11. Looking for a Mockingbird in the 500-800 price range. Also have Peavey Wolfgang that is expendable
    Mike Chiminec

I really really want a good solid B.C. Rich Mockingbird. I love the looks and the sounds of them. I remember seeing one a while ago on ebay that had coil splitting and was a beautiful pearly white. How rare are these? Can i find one of these or are they pretty much out of the question? I have around 500-800 dollars i can spend on this guitar. I also have a Korean made Peavey Wolfgang Special i can throw in if extra money is needed. Anyone with a Mockingbird for sale drop me a line at [email protected] (year makes no difference to me).

its a koa wood mockingbird with diamond inlays, rosewood fretboard, grover deluxe tuners, maple stripes , neck thru usa model,\nthe only thing is that the electronics have been changed,…and the 5 way tone circuit doesnt have the coil,…i’m still trying to locate one ,….i may try a coil from a relay to see what happens,….and the pre amp is disconected,…but still there,….the tone and 2 volumes were changed to 1 meg volume pots and the tone was changed to a midrange type push pull pot ,…..serial #is 81092,…so this would make it a 79′ or maybe earlier,…..since bc rich was way ahead of the # system ,….has a chip on the long horn thru the finish (very this finish ) and belt bukle marks on the back but NOT thru the finish,….headstock looks sweet,….and its sooooo vintage,…the reason i’m selling it is because it has a very wide thin neck profile and i like different type necks,….my friends think i’m nuts to sell it but here it is.it looks like slash’s koa from 79′ except his has cloud inlays and has binding and mine doesnt have that.\nheres a pic on my homepage\nhttp://hometown.aol.com/audiomad99/index.html

what is the headstock shape? if it is a pointed one and has a sort of drupped front point it is a mid/late 80’s. beyond popular beleif these do not have dimarzio pickups. most just have stock bc rich pickups. most of these guitars in decent condition can bring 150-300 if not too beat up

  23. BC Rich Stealth Headless bass?
    Rob

I received a Stealth headless bass in electric blue as a graduation present in the late eighties, it has Bill Lawrence pick-ups, neck- through body, active eq, two-octave neck, ebony fingerboard, and the standard BC Rich electronics, but I’ve never seen another headless, and would like any info on how many were made and approximate value

  24. Well, I bought a Rico wave
    Michael Rodgers

Well, I did it. I’m now the proud owner of a BC Rico Wave. Overall, I like it. The pickups, made by GOTOH, are servicable. (They will be replaced with a Bill Lawerance XL500 in the neck, and a Kramer Quad in the bridge.) The electronics will be upgraded to have 2 series/parallel/single coil switches, and a phase switch. And probably a refinish is in order. (Black, with silver leaf along the side beveled edges.) The bridge is a brilliant piece of genius! (Pat. Pending BC Rich stop/saddles.) I’ll probably change the nut out, using a 1/2 brass, 1/2 bone compensated nut of my own design. Any Idea of the age of it? Serial # 1956. thanks for listening.

    1. Rico Wave
      ROCKWOOD

The official scoop on RICO is all records were lost in a flood. RICOs are the reason that I started my archive to catalogue as many BCR instruments as posible. I hope that the instruments themselves will tell the story – since no-one else seems willing. So far, it is posible that Ricos were made somewhere between 76 & 82. Neal Moser mentions on his site that he made the Bich proto (September 76) while Bernie was in Japan to work up a deal to start importing guitars. I guess we’ll have to wait on Neal’s book to get more info on that. Meanwhile, the serial number format changed to 6 digits in 1982. There is an article from Vintage Guitar Player magazine about Bernie Rico and his guitars that is really good reading. The author says that only 150 Ricos were imported before the name was changed to RICH. The Rich instruments didn’t move to the 6 digit SN format until after the NJ Series started. The earliest RICH NJs with the 6 digit SN are from 83, so far. It really does look like the first digit of the 4 digit SN is the year, so far. This would make yours an 81. It’s really to early in my research to be sure: I only have 17 Rico’s, 10 Rich’s & 5 NJ’s in my list that predate the bigger SN format. Send pics to [email protected] & ROCKON! Bart

Sounds like that will be a real nice guitar when you done. The wave is one of my favorite body styles. i’m not exactly sure but i would say its from 81-82. that would probably be pretty close. good quality made in japan. enjoy it!

you could try contacting neal moser @ mcs guitars or tim keyes @ bc rich. one of those guys should be able to give you some good info on the rico guitars.

Now I see that we are in the same boat! I consider Neal Moser a friend – he stays clear of the imports. I get the impression that he always has. Think about it, your boss is gonna do what? How does that affect me? This sucks! Pure human emotion. He is a proud American. I’m glad to have had a few Em’s with him & we can talk again!
Me? I’m on the side of discovering just what is true about these ol Rico’s. Somewhere in all the talk there is bound to be some truth here and there. Any number given for imports does not begin to cover total production volume. If they only made say 50 period; there would not be a single dollar added to it’s value. I’ve paid as much as $700 for a perfect Rico (now whose the fool?!) I am glad to have it. In 30 years it will be the most perfect Rico Eagle bass left on the plant & still worth $350. As much as Rico dominates Fender, Gibson, the old Ampegs – the USA models are better. I’ve been playing 30 years & am proud of the fact that it was a Rico that converted me. I find it ironic that what was meant to be an entry level instrument could be so much better than the status quo & remain at entry level value. Such is life – enjoy it! I really would like to see pics of your Wave! ROCKON Bart

      James

The BC Rico guitars are imports from japan(early 80s) that eventually became the NJ series guitars. And for imported guitars they are great quality instruments.
As far as how many were made, who knows? I would trust Neal’s words over VG since he worked there.

Anyway, I’v seen these sell from anywhere between $300-$600 depending on condition.

Hey people. I’ve been playing guitar and bass now for some 25 years, and I can remember the original Warlock’s, and Mockingbirds. Beautiful creatures they were. (I sound like Yoda.) I don’t care for the new affordable Rich’s, and the real ones? who can afford them? So I found myself a BC Rico Wave. GREAT player! Some dings and scratches, but hey, it’s had a life. But I can’t find any kind of info on this thing. There’s two articles out there, a Vintage Guitar article, which states that there are only 150 BC Ricos out there, and a supposed interview with N. Moser that refutes the VG article word for word, and claims that there are a lot of BC Rico Waves out there. Well, other than the one I’m picking up Saturday, I’ve seen one other, back in 84, in a small music store in Southern NJ. Non of the major stores in Philly and NY had any. And I’ve seen thousands of guitars, and worked on a few hundred, and never seen another. So what gives? Does any one know anything about these things? Are they rare, or so common that no one speaks about them? Any body have one? What’s the going price on them? I would really appreciate the help of the BC Rich community. [email protected]

I’ve has a red BC Rico Eagle since 2003. It has the best action and I do not get hand fatigue while playing it. Also, I believe I read some where the early models had DiMarzio pickup. I believe it. The output is hotter than my other non-active basses.

Found one of these used in a music store. I bought it, set it up, and played it with my Church band today. VERY playable, and sounded great. Redish stain with orange center block, sunburst back of the neck, through the neck construction, B C Rico on the headstock. Anybody know when or where it was made? SN: R2100. Thanks.yk

$1000 and reserve not met? thats crazy. I guess you are looking for a sucker.
for someone to try to charge that much for an import guitar is stupid. i dont’t care how few they made.

you could a find perfect used USA bc rich for less than you’re asking for that thing.

        .................

oh, i just read. $100 for shipping?????????
you over charge the hell out of the guitar.
then charge 4x the cost of shipping it.

        YOU ARE EBAY SCUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          You are a jerk

You’re a jerk. . . with a nasty mouth. We did not know the value and started out high. As for the shipping, the guitar was taken to Mailboxes, etc for shipping costs before it was ever put on ebay. I have been selling on ebay for a long time and am an excellent ebayer. Get a life.

nasty mouth?????? jerk??????? i call it like i see it.
i guess the truth hurts. you didn’t know the value the first time you listed it or the 3rd or 4th time(which still didn’t hit your reserve)?

btw…i also have been selling on ebay for a long time. its not hard to get a box from a music store and ship a guitar for $25 or less.

              Let it go

Let it go dude – you are one of those who only see things one way and don’t give nice people the benefit of the doubt. We continued to list it because after weeks of research at guitar sites, guitar stores, etc, we could only find one person who thought they knew the value and we went with that. Obviously they were off base. As are you. I specifically had shipping calculated at UPS Store, which is reputable, because I have been shorted many times on shipping. Sorry it ruffled your feathers. Let it go.

I’m looking to sell MY 2000 Halloween Warlock, and in doing some research I saw that 2 sold on ebay for 1000 and 1200. You could list it for $15,000 if you want. If he doesnt like it, he doesnt have to pay it. No reason to rip you for it.

I have a BC Rich with a ST III body. The neck is a bolt on and thew plate reads "Made in LA California" with a B XXXX serial number. The headstock has a decal BC Rich signature on it. ROCKWOOD

As far as I can tell all Platinums are made in Korea. Most BCRs with your series of SN digits have a BC in front of the SN. IN fact yours is only the 2nd I know of where the owner didn’t list the BC as part of the SN. His is also one that I don’t have a pic of so, who knows?! I believe Ironbirds were introduced in 83. The 1st USA neckthru Ironbird I know of is an 84. I believe all Platinums are bolton necks with minimum electronics. Then again, I spend my efforts on the older neckthru stuff. As a guessing man, that actually does collect this sort of info (send pics!) I’d say that yours is a 93 model. The info on imports is like nonexistant. I wish there were better help out there for ya than my collection of SN info – then I wopuldn’t spend so much time trying to piece it together myself. ROCKON!! Bart
