They only made them for a few years in the 70's. Tried to break in on the Gibson/Fender dominated market but flopped.
They are great guitars but have little to no market value now. Wait another 20 yrs., who knows then? Meanwhile I'm just enjoying mine...and all the change$$$

I own and Stinger SSX and Martin made them in 1985-6 then stopped. I dont know why I have heard alot of good things about them. I was thinking about redoing mine and making it custom but I dont know if its worth anything cause its original or something. I dunno but i would like to find out.

I own a martin ssx stinger. I bought it for $60 with a hardshell plush case from a friend. I think it is great except for the wiring and knobs. Have you ever put stack humbuckers in it? I'm looking for ideas to make the tone fatter. How much did the stingers go for when originally released.

The Martin co. seems to think ;(along with the rest of the six string snobs) that this is a throw away guitar. well i just bought one for $100.00 off a dealer let me tell you I have a fender strat thats nice and is a prodotype lots of bells and whistels but' the martin stinger sounds cruncher than the strat. go figure dean; this is sick you buy a good martin acoustic its an arm and a leg but electrics are a dime a dozen all I can say is it sounds better and plays like a dream and if other players don't like that fact and can't face up to it well;;;;; THEN THEY CAN JUST EAT ME,,,,,.... by the way Iwonder why the MARTIN CO. doesn't stick up for this axe? after all they made it and stamped it C F MARTIN by the way Ive been playing 34 years in those years I always wanted a gibson THEY SUCK AND ARE NOT AFFORDABLE YOU REALLY PAY JUST FOR THE NAME now i got the name at hundreds less. e mail me tell me what you think.

i own one stinger by cf martin & co. and i cant find any info on my guitar...i bought this from my friend year 1999... i have been trying to look up if this was an oiginal... hte body is like a strat but the head is similar to a jackson or ibanez... pls email me anyone who has info at franky_cha@yahoo.com (i think i still have a pic of my guitar at friendster.... zisnarf_miranda@hotmail.com)

I have been playing for about 7 years now.... and a stinger was my first electric. I bought it for 130 bucks, and it sounded great. Since then, i have moved on to accoustic and havent really played electric too much. Its still a great guitar... I'm going to replace the pickups and controls... after that it will be like brand new. In my opinion, the stinger is a kick ass guitar for how cheap they are. Let me know if you have any further info on stingers... everybody I've talked to puts them down. thanks.

Hey I Am also looking for some info on my stinger. The sound of this guitar is awesome. I got it from a dealer who thought he was selling fender Strat. I showed him otherwise and got it for 100.00 so it was a steal in my book

I recently acquired a C.F. Martin Stinger Bass Guitar from a business associate as a bardering arrangement. Excellent condition, black, maple neck, all chrome hardware, dual pickup, volume and tone control, and heavy as hell. I cleaned it up and it looks like new! I've had little luck finding info on the internet. The going value seems to be $250 to $400 bucks. Seems like a quality built instrument.

:Howdy boys, I got an SSX-10 Stinger and it's bad ass. Had it for almost 15 years, so some of the hardware could be updated/beautified, but other than that she's a real sweetheart. Weird how there's not much out there on the Stinger. Too bad cause mine rocks.

I have owned mine for like 8 years, shits sick. was my first guitar. I played my first like 3 shows with it.. The pick-ups blow, i broke the bridge bolt for the whammy, The action is pretty high, and with any decent amount of ampiflication all you hear is mud. But... I love this guitar.

hey man I know what you mean I can't find any info on it. Mine is a stinger and it says that it was made by CF Martin. Maybe it got a lawsuit by fender cause I know mine has been mistaken as a fender strat before. And I have looked about some other resources and found that CF Martin has made only acoustic guitars, banjos, and mandolins. But since I have living proof that they make electrics I don't know what to tell you.

I must agree that the Stinger SSX not only plays as well or better than my Fender Strat, but, sounds and plays much better than all of my guitars. I have a Gibson ES-125, Gibson Les Paul Custom, Fender Jaguar (original, not a re-issue), Two Fender Statacasters, a Samick f-hole double cutaway, and my SXX Stinger for electric guitars. I would put by Stinger up against any name-brand guitar. In fact, I just purchased a Stinger Bass guitar that was modeled after the Fender Jazz Bass. I feel the sound and quality of workmanship for that particular bass also exceeds the Fender model it was based on. Martin Company should stand up for the quality of this all too neglected treasure, the Stinger series guotar. Thanks for Listening, Keith

I don't see why they stopped making it. I got a hot pink (used) ssx for x-mas a couple of years ago and it is my favorite guitar ever. It has great sound quality and looks great. It is better then any name brand guitar.

Hello fellow stinger owners.I have a Stinger STX model made in 1987,list price then $330.00.These guitars weren't cheap.List price for any stinger in 1988 range from $281.00-$350.00.I personaly believe Martin sold out to stop producing these guitar because of the competition,to fender.My stinger is still in Great condition.I buy and sell guitars from time to time.I've sold my Fenders,Gibson,Yamahas,ect.But have not parted with my stinger STX,mainly because of the sound,construction,and look.These guitars have been underated.I believe they're are much more valuble than they sold for in 1986-1988.I would not take under $1,000.00 for mine.Stingers rule!!!
