  5. Chrome Bridge Cover--Fender coronado II
    Mark deGorter

I’m the original owner of a ’66 Fender Coronado II that is missing the chrome bridge cover I must have lost years ago. Does anyone know where I might find one?

Thanks in advance for any input.

    1. Coronado Bridge Cover
      pepe

Coronados have the same bridge cove as the ones found in Jazzmasterrs and Mustangs. Reissues are aesy to find at eBAy for about$15, originals go for around $100,. Today I got mine (original) and honestly, it fits exactly like the reissue. The only difference is that the original has sort of “ears” on the lower sides where they fit with the bridge.
      Good luck!

I do belive it’s the same as a jazzmaster/mustang pickup cover, new re-issues @ allparts, parts is parts or angela instruments. if it still matters a year later

: Does anyone know where I can find the specs of my RI Pink Paisley Telecaster?

Should be in a back issue of a Fender "Frontline" magazine/catalogue up to year 2000. Also, specs are similar to 1968 – 70 Teles except RI body (Japan) is basswood instead of ash.

      2. Re: Fender Malibu
        jessica bryant

try looking at e-bay, there is a feedback forum that you can see how the seller is, and judge to buy from or not, and someone who is going to have the fender malibu will probably be a small seller, who will most definitly take care of you. I just bought a fender malibu off e-bay with a beautiful sunburst on it for $250. granted i had to pay the shipping but that was only $30. it’s in perfect condition, and my friends all wanted to take it home when i showed them. there might not be one on there now, but if you keep an eye open you will come across one, and the price will very so you could pay less than me, or pay a bit more, just verys who watns them and who’s selling them. And good luck to your search

I’ve got one also. No idea, though. I was assuming mine to be from the 60’s? It’s stamped inside F-70 M, and also has a stamp of 9629 1030 which may be some sort of production/time stamp?

      Silver Anniversary Stratocaster for sale
To celebrate 25 years of Strat production, this 1979 model has an anniversary body logo and deluxe machine heads. The first 500 came in white, but severe cracking meant a change to a more appropriate special silver finish. Around 10,000 were made up to 1980. This guitar features a Bolt-on Maple neck & Laminated maple fingerboard, 25th Anniversary Embossed Neck plate, 3 Single coil pickups, 5 way pickup selector,1 volume & 2 tone controls, Original Paperwork & Original Hardshell case included. It is very common for this Silver color to tarnish and turn a greenish gold, but this model is super clean and maintains the original Silver finish.

Hey James. 4 years later… I also have a Fender F-35. The strap peg on the guitar body is different to the strap peg the previous user must have screwed into the back of the neck (where it joins the body). So, I suppose there was only one strap peg on this model – and we were supposed to tie the other end of the strap on to the headstock like hippies.

I have a Mexican El-Rio. My friend imported it to the UK in ’86, and I have owned it since ’95. This is the best guitar I have ever owned. A few yrs ago it was valued @ £1000 ($1500) for insurance purposes. However, as guitar prices have dropped (and quality gone up!), I had it re-valued in Aug 2003 – the result was £550, about $800ish :o( This doesn’t really matter though, the guitar is so good, I’ll never sell it!

When I first got my El Rio, I had trouble finding much about it except the new price. I then found a thread in the UK and found out that over there, poeple with El Rio’s wouldn’t part with them and were suggesting that should they, they would want over $2000 Pounds. I then found otu that in the States, people seemed to think they were not worth $350.00 USD.
Personally, I’ve played many and O love the neck, fret board, the unique tone, and it is my favorite accoustic for recording.
I wouldn’t sell mine for under $2000 Pounds. So I guess I will keep it forever.

I then found a thread in the UK and found out that over there, poeple with El Rio’s wouldn’t part with them and were suggesting that should they, they would want over $2000 Pounds. I then found otu that in the States, people seemed to think they were not worth $350.00 USD.
: Personally, I’ve played many and O love the neck, fret board, the unique tone, and it is my favorite accoustic for recording.
: I wouldn’t sell mine for under $2000 Pounds. So I guess I will keep it forever.

You know, I could almost say what your comment is per batum.
I found the same links I think. The UK holds them highly.
I posted mine on ebay for 2500.00 after seeing the UK blogs and got responses that made it sound like I was out of my mind.

Now, it is my favorite accoustic and I wouldn’t take 2500 or even 3000 for it. Like the NRA saying, you will take it only out of my cold dead hands.

By the way, the action is almost as low as my ’69 SG’s and I am working on some classical stuff. I played it daily for hours each day for a month and never once had to tune it and the intonation would make most jealous. It is by far the best value for the price I’ve ever had.

I just set up an Ibanez and it , as many others plays very well, but the El Rio blows them away hands down.

  10. 70's Fender Bronco Worth
    John Lang

What would a 1970’s Fender Bronco be worth? My father bought it in the 70’s but can’t remember the exact date. Can anyone give me a ballpark?

    1. Re: 70's Fender Bronco Worth
      DK

Unfortunately not very much they were very much a budget affair and generally not up to much, although I have played at lest one good one.. the last one I saw up for sale went for £150, but if yours is in A1 condition it might be worth more to a collector.

        Tom Carson

Opps, sorry about that last message,it submitted before I put a new message. Anyway, the Fender Bronco was my first electric in 1968, and it played extemely well. Unfortunately, I sold it to a guy in the dorm at college, so I could buy a strat. I now wish I had hung on to it, and would certainly love to get my hands on a nice one.

I just got a ’75 hardtail strat w/maple neck. Awesome guitar. It’s black w/creme pickguard & pickups. Supposedly all original except for the tuners. Is this a rare guitar? Some finish checking & dents. It’s exactly what I was looking for – a junkyard dog!

  12. Fender XII
    Nick Brown

I just purchased a 1966 Fender XII, dated March. How do the selections on the pick up selector switch relate to the pick ups/sound? It has four pick up selection postions but I’m not sure which pick up(s)they control?
My guitaris is 3 tone sunbust with and original white pick guard and optional black head stock. I haven’t seen any other Fender XIIs like this. Is it rare?
    thanks for any information,
    Nick

    1. Re: Fender XII
      Loren

Here’s a quick way to find out which pickups are working at any particular time.

PLug your guitar into an amp. Take a screwdriver (or any metalic shaft)and lightly tap on the round (poles) on the pickup. The ones that are "on" will have a definate pop through your amp. The ones that are off wont come through.
Just turn your switch to a position and tap the pickups to find out which ones are on.

By the way I also have an XII. I love it. I had a Rick 12 but the neck is so thin I couldn’t play it.

      Have fun,

      Loren

I would like to have a schematic too If anyone has one.
I experienced the same thing . It seemed like the input jack was bad but Its not I tested the continuity with my
multimeter.I going to try a method called signal tracing
where you inject an audio signal in the input jack then trace it along the circuit board with a seperate amplifier.
You find out wher the problem is when you lose the signal.
        I hope that helps someone.
        Thanks!

        Good Afternoon,
It seems to me that the SRV neck is slightly "eliptical"shape. More like a "J" than a "D"
meaning that the bass side(top) of the neck has a different
contour than the treble(bottom)s. Confused??? Pull up
http://www.warmoth.com and study a bit. They show the various
        cross sections of available necks…

I just recently bought the SRV guitar. The neck is oval shaped and rather large. I don’t recomened buying one unless you don’t have at least average sized hands. The fretboard is pao ferro which has a lighter color than rosewood, and feels somewhat smoother to play.

Sounds like a late 1966. Special was used on guitars given away or from guitar shows. You have a unique one if it is the original Green!! Have you got any pictures?? The Coro II Basses are almost all sunburst or Antigua…I have seen White and Firemist Gold on Coro I Basses. Teal Green Metallic may be your color. Email me!

    1. Re: Fender Lead 1
      Miles

Lead I’s were made between 1979 and 1982. If yours has a red finish it was probably made in ’81 or ’82, because they only started making them with different colors later. They sell for $200-$400. The finish in the series is known to crack.

In Lead 1, the three-position switch is for pick-up coil switching; front, both, rear. The two-position switch is for phase reversal when both coils are switched on.

  18. Vintage Tweed parts. .
    Bill McCarty

I have two old tweeds, one is a Princeton 5B2, which I would like to find capsitors to replace all, the other is a Deluxe 5F6 (this shows up as a Bassman???) I would also like to restore it to original. Both amps work, the only mods have been the installation of an 8" and 12" JBL,in the Princeton and Deluxe/Bassman Also, if anyone would have any idea as to the curent value of these. The Princeton has the original tweed in excellent condition, the Deluxe did not have the tweed, just bare wood on teh case itself. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. .Bill

    1. Re: Vintage Tweed parts. .
      Vince Reh

      Bill,

I have a 5F6 Deluxe in my repair shop at the moment and I’m also wondering about the "5F6" designation. I’m not a Fender expert by any means, but I also believed the 5F6 only applied to the Bassman. I haven’t been able to find any references to 5F6 tweeds anywhere. I hope someone out there can shed light on this seeming anomoly.

As far as putting vintage components back into your tweeds, I’m afraid this is likely impossible. The original Astron capacitors used in these amps have all gone bad by now, they aren’t known for their longevity. There might be a few out there that are still good, but they are difficult to find and would likely be about to go bad anyway–they get leaky. About the best you can do is to install modern caps that mimic the sound of the old ones. Many people like the sound of modern Mallory tubular caps and certain Sprague orange drops. Hope this helps, and if you’ve received any info on the 5F6 designation, I would appreciate hearing about it. Vince.

  19. I bought this brand new in 1979..f-35 ser# 7811877 for $175. Can anyone tell me whats it made of? Is the face laminate or solid/hard top? What would it be worth now in great condition? Hey guys, can you help me out?

I learned to play on my dad’s 1979 F-35, (made in Japan model). It was never an expensive guitar, but I grew up around it, and took it on the road last summer. It was my dad’s first and only guitar. It got stolen in Eugene Oregon from my hotel. I really want to buy a replacement and give it back to my dad. If anyone has one for sale, please email me at [email protected]

    3. :OOOPPS… I DON’T KNOW BUT I HAVE THE SAME ONE AND ALSO AM WONDERING HOW MUCH ITS WORTH….IF YOU FIND OUT CAN U LET ME KNOW?? ITS A GREAT GUITAR !

      1. Re: f-35
        Danny Harper

The Fender f-35 is an excellent guitar. I have a Takamine and Taylor, yet always play the Fender at gigs, using the others as backup. Unfortunately the value of these guitars is pretty much the same as you will have paid for them in the 1970’s. I bought mine a year ago as a backup and paid £125 for it, which I now know was over the odds. The beauty about these guitars is that they are now very rare, and it is incredibly hard to find one for sale, as people like myself realise what a gem they are, and tend to hang on to them!! If you are lucky enough to find one, get it bought. It won’t be very expensive.

I am looking for a 68 re-issue, maple neck, Fender Stratocastor, made in Japan in the 90’s. I have owned two in the past a left handed and right handed model.

They were the finest two strats I have ever played, with the best necks ever. The right handed model retailed for 549.00 and they were discountinued just a couple years ago. I would pay a premium price if you can find one for me. My preference would be in Olympic White.

      fred

: How much is a ’74’ Bottle Green Telecaster worth ?

their value has really gone down in the past decades, just because quality of new ones has increased. Mint condition it would probably be worth about $150, and not much more. It really isn’t that great of a guitar. Honestly, it sucks to be you and I would never want one of them.

      1. Re: Fender Telecaster 1974 Bottle Green
        Robin Chaphekar

I sold this guitar for £850.00 GBP that’s $1,274.00 USD in 2003 in London. Quality holds its price, and I think I may have let it go for less than it was worth. Honestly, it sucks to be you and be so wrong about Fender guitar prices.

      1. Re: strat/tele
        Telechild

The strat is definitly gonna be an easier playing guitar but if you have kind of fat fingers I would suggest playing a telecaster. the best thing to do is go to a music store and play several strats and several tele’s cause every guitar has its own personality and every guitar plays a little different.

    1. Re: Japanese Iron Maiden Fender Stratocasters
      Steve

Fuji Gen-Gakki, best known for building Ibanez brand guitars, were chosen to build Fender Japan instruments. So if you want an Ibanez buy an Ibanez. Why buy a Fender that is really an Ibanez? Buy a Prestige American made Ibanez if you must. Cheapskates buy Asian.

      : Anyone,

: I just bought the Iron Maiden Japanese Strat. I wanted to know if anyone can tell me how the Japanese Strat compares to the American. Are they junk? Are they not worth buying for any reason? The guitar seems to be made well; and, it seems to play real nice. I just want to be reassured that I made a wise purchase. Originally, at the same price range, I was looking to get an Ibanez RG series guitar, but went with the Fender instead. Is there anything I should know about the particular model, or, about Japanese Strats in general. What year was the Iron Maiden model first produced – 95/96 or 2001? Is it considered a Signature guitar. Finally, the first and second strings (E and B) seem to be slightly dampened and buzzy sounding, could it possibly be due to the Floyd Rose locking tremolo system or perhaps the slinky .009 Fender strings that are on the guitar. Is this a common condition found on this model of guitar?

man my jap squire totally rocks. the pick up system is strange though. its not a 5-way switch like regular strats. but it has 3 toggle switches that moves back and forth to turn on and off the different pickups. its pretty cool. the neck on this thing is sooooooo fast and smooth. im goin to make it my #1 metal guitar and leave my Sheraton for more rock and jazz stuff. hang on to your strat. they rock

90s Japenese Strats are fast becoming recognised as some of the best Strats Fender ever made
(better quality than the USA cost cutting post 90s Strats) Check out the heel of the neck, a Made In Japan sticker
should be under the laquer (for a 90s jap strat, i think!). Fender could’nt have their budget guitars sounding better than their USA
made counterparts, thats why there budget range is being made in Mexico, (think about it).

: made counterparts, thats why there budget range is being made in Mexico, (think about it).

        Miles,

Thank you for your response. have to admit, when I first bought the instrument, I was apprehensive. Since then, I have done a lot of research and even found a site where there were approximately 10 individual reviews for the Iron Maiden Strat, and all were very positive. In general, people have very good things to say about Fender Japanese instruments. The bottom line is that I love the way the guitar sounds, looks and plays. I also have to put the purchase in to its proper perspective: I set out to buy a Japanese guitar in that price range in the first place and that is just what I did, with the added bonus of it just happening to be a collectible Fender Stratocaster. One certainly can’t go wrong with that.

        Again, thank you.

      Anyone,

I just bought the Iron Maiden Japanese Strat.

I would appreciate any info or advice.

      Thank you.

You can get them through Fender’s own Vintage Shop. Even get a repaint on the body as well for $$$$. Before you get a decal from them you need to submit proof of serial #, assembler/techs signature, date stamp, etc to authenticate it’s vintage (and rightly so, no frauds needed out here!) The shop sells the green-tinged pick guards and knobs too and other plastic. Guards are big bucks too.

Response. From 1968 – 70, pickups didn’t have any particular name, just Fender American. From 1994 & up, Nippon Gakki, Japan.

    Gareth Thomas

I own, and play, a bronze fibreglass bodied strat. The body is ornately sculptured and signed ‘Jon Douglas 1975’ and it is fitted with standard Fender parts. The plate is numbered 527751. I have been told that 20 similair models were made in London under license by Fender. Does anyone have any further information and what is its current value?
