      Yes to both questions. …

    1. Re: fender m80 head and 4-12 cab
      Frank

The M80 is a stereo head, the cab also is… But you can’t conect one cab to bought head outputs… If you want a stero sound with just one cab, connect it to the right output on the head an the 16 ohm stereo input on the cab… Sorry for my english, I´m from Portugal

    2. Re: fender m80 head and 4-12 cab
      Andrew MacNeill

The cabinet should be stereo if it came with the head. Here is how to check…
use only one output from the amplifier…
plug it into each speaker input one at a time…
Listen for play something through the amp…
If the speaker cabinet is stereo you will hear only two of the four speakers being used at a time…
A different two will be used for each speaker input…
      hope this helps

: i know the head is stereo…is the cab?? the cab has two inputs…the head has two outputs….can I?

  2. Jazz/Precision bass....old or new

      : Thanks
      Hi Mel,
Not wishing to state the bleedin obvious but play a few !
Don’t be blinded by the bullshit on vintage models.
There are some lovely old basses around but a lot are knackered or frankly fake ! – Fender’s quality control in the 70’s stank and although the best Precision I ever played was a 78 the majority sadly were crap – if you wanted a fender back then the discerning buyer would try the shop’s entire stock of a model before buying as they would all be different !
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve owned & loved ( & still do) a few over the years but you gotta be careful, especially if you’re going to spend a lot of money.
Same advice for American or offshore – some of the recent foreign models are clearly inferior but look at the price difference – they should be! but Japanese quality control is superb and their reissues especially are often as good if not better than the US models.
When the very first Squires appeared in the 80’s they were clearly superior and the Americans had to buck up their ideas to keep up.
The best advice I can give is again – play, feel & listen – if it plays & sounds good, it is good – whenever and wherever it was made.
Hope that’s of some help, it’s probably opinionated and a little controversial but there ya go …
      cheers,
      Simon

  3. XFL2000 Power Speaker (help)
    Paul

I have an old Fender XFL2000 Speaker Cabinet. It has eight 10inch speakers. The Speakers themselves are not labeled with any capacity. The sticker on the back of each speaker simply says "fender musical instrument special speaker". It is covered in black tolex and the grille cover is a beige/silver with alternating green and black thread. Any information at all about this product would be greatly appreciated.

  8. More gain from Super Reverb Reissue
    Robert Hultgren

I have a new Super Reverb Reissue which works really well with an overdrive pedal to give it just a touch of boost. I have heard that on the older models, tubes could be pulled to give the amp more gain. Has anyone heard of this? Will it work with the reissue models without hurting the amp? Which tubes get pulled? Also, I lucked into 3 NOS RCA 6L6G’s and a 5AR4 rectifier. Will replacing the Sovteks with the RCAs make much of a difference in a new amp like this, or are NOS tubes a better match for the original vintage amps?

    1. Re: FENDER MUSTANG- a question of age...
      simon hill

I’m nowhere near my Fender info book today but one easy tip is body contouring.
Most models have contouring on the back of the body (like a strat)for comfort but ’65 and earlier are just a simple slab of wood – not as comfortable but considerably more valuable (I know cos I’m lucky enough to have one !)
I’ll write again when I’ve checked on some more info – hope this is of some help anyway!

    2. Re: This popular thread has been given its own page :... Patti
      Patti

I have a Fender Mustang, and I was wondering if somebody could help me figure out the year it was made.
The serial number has no letter, number, or symbol before it. The only thing stamped on the plate behind the neck is the number 213266.
The guitar is Olympic White, with a tortoise shell pick guard. The pick guard is held on with 12 screws. The Tremolo Bar has a white tip. There are 2 slider switchs ON-OFF-PHASE for each of the two pickups.
From all that I’ve read, I think it’s a 1964, except that there isn’t an "L" in the serial number.

The over all condition is good, there is some wear on one part instrument, some of the finish is worn off the bottom side the body. I had the original case, but it was stolen at one point, and the case was never recovered.
Any thoughts as to this guitar’s worth?

Thanks in advance for whatever help you can offer!
      -Patti

Check all the tubes to make sure they are seated properly, both preamp (AX7’s) and the power (6L6’s) tubes. If you aren’t getting anything at all check speaker wire. Otherwise take it to a fender authorized repairman. If your living in New England I can give you a few names.

  14. Worth of 1986 Japanese Fender Squire ?
    andrew

Hi there ! I am based in Australia and just picked up an ’86 squier- Japanese made. This is the first I have had my hands on and am unsure of its value. It has good "packed" machine heads and two decent looking string brakes on the headstock…..it actually feels similar to my usa strat.Any help would be appreciated…thanks

      1. 86 Squire Strat
        jnstar1953

I just bought one. Serial # E673240. I bought it at a garage sale. I just had my set up guy ( who is the best in the business) go threw this ax. It plays now incredible. The pickups are hot as hell. It has been beat up so bad but after setting it up it is the baddest ax I haver played. I plugged it into a Marshall JCM 800 and it kicked the snots out of my USA Strat from 1982. The Squire name says it is a cheap guitar. I wish that people would understand that this is a Ferrari of guitars. If you play a strat then play one of these. LOL

    Bill Staley

I am trying to identify a Thinbody Archtop Electric Guitat built in aroun 1963. The body has a red sunburst finish and a headstock similar to a 1964 Fender, the body is similar to a 1964 Epiphone Casino. The only identification on the guitar is the word "Japan" on the heel and "made in Japan" on the Tailpiece. Obviously built in Japan this appears to have attempted to copy attributes from several name manufacturers. Perhaps for a department store. I would appreciate any input.

I have a new American Deluxe Strat with the noiseless pickups. The one thing I like is that you can turn the guitar to 10, and if your amp is clean, there is NO noise unless you play. It is the cleanest sounding guitar I have ever played. I had a 25th Anniversary model, but this one sounds better.

I have not liked Fender’s Noiseless Pickups either. I find them harsh, metallic, industrial, non-Strat and without harmonics & chime.

: I have a new American Deluxe Strat with the noiseless pickups. The one thing I like is that you can turn the guitar to 10, and if your amp is clean, there is NO noise Go to guitarnuts.com and find out how to shield the single coil stock ones!

          Ok,
I have a 1983 Fender Elite Strat with noiseless pickups. Everyone that plays my guitar tells me that it has a much better sound than their Strat. I am not sure what the newer noiseless pickups sound like but I do know mine are awesome. They also have a pre circuit that runs off a battery 9 volt. Hope this helps. Bill
