Ron’s World of Guitars

Guitars, Amps, Springs, Effects, Magazines, Vintage… I have listed my favorite links and resources for anyone that loves guitars. Focus on Electric, but also some great Acoustic links. A new area which seems to be getting some response is the Photo Gallery. Several people have already sent in photos of their favorite guitars and I have posted them. I also have a crits corner where I highlight some different guitar related web sites.

  1. Washburn d-265 ... value? I'm selling. I think it is very rare
    Michael100

    Hello,
Anyone know anything about the Washburn d-265 …like how rare it is and value. I’m going to sell mine.
Bought it new in Indiana in 1979. Nearly mint condition.
    Solid Cedar top
    Mahogany sides, back & neck
    Rosewood fingerboard
    Dreadnought body style
All original including Washburn chrome nuts
I can only find one on the web. $600 and it is beaten up. SEE: https://offerup.com/item/detail/592776315/

    Thanks for any help!
    I’m in Denver, Colorado.

  2. Washburn D-265
    Anonymous

I’m interested in obtaining more information on the Washburn Model D-265 guitar. I’m a beginning guitarist and looking for something to re-acquaint myself with my earlier guitar playing, but also one that stands the “test of time.” I have an opportunity to buy this guitar for $75.00, but am also interested in a lower-priced Martin or Gibson guitar. Thanks for any thoughts/comments in advance. C

    1. washburn d265
      doris

      hello,

I posess a D-265 since 1984. I bought it for 750 DM (german marks) which must have been about $375 then.
I am still very content with it. My musicstore told me last year it is still a good guitar. I like the sound a lot, but I must admit that I am not a very good guitar player. I have got a Taylor Big Baby too, with a very different sound. But I prefer the Washburn for most opportunities. I think $75 are a very good offer, if the guitar is in good order.

      Greetings from Germany

      Doris

This site will not post my reply. I did it twice and made sure there was nothing objectable. Don’t know what to do so quick answer; Nothing.
Mint condition, original pups, knobs, OHSC you’re looking at $400-$500.
Collectable? Kinda but, you won’t be buying a new car any time soon with one. Almost antique, 25 years I think.
Too bad they wouldn’t post the information I gave. Lost knowledge and I won’t type it a third time.

I have had this guitar for about ten years and in all that time I have never seen another like it.Web serches for the model number come up blank. Is this an unusual model? If anyone has any information I would be very gratefull. The guitar is a semi accoustic, dreadnaught cutaway. It is a monotone dark wood grain colouring. The machine heads and graphic controls are stamped Washburn.

  11. Washburn D-17 CES/WR
    Mark Mark

    Hello All,
I’ve recently acquired a Washburn D-17 CES/WR. I don’t know what year it was made, how much it’s worth. How do I found out what year it was made. I’ve done some research on the guitar, but the info is all over the place. Help me please.
I’m a beginning player, so I don’t know how to describe the kind of wood, neck, fretboard, etc. I’ll try.
It’s Wine red (color) acoustic/electric, the wood is the same all the way around the guitar and it has ivory trim (i think) the back has some sort of inlay splitting the middle. Equis II controls, active pick up. It has D.I. and out port. Gold tuners w/ mother of pearl knobs. Inlays are mother of pearl, diamond shaped with slots on it, 12th fret has some sort of wavy line made of pearl. It has the matching diamond patterns on the bridge (i think that’s what it’s called. Any info would be great.

            Hello Mark,
I also have the same Model with the Quilted Maple Top. Here is what I have learned: The D is for Dreadnaught, model is 17, C= Cutaway, E= Electric, s= Solid Top and or corse WR= Wine Red. You can tell the year by deciphering the Serial No.first 2 numbers (burned into) the neck Block inside the guitar. Mine is a 95 07 06 S thus July 06, 1995. I have played many Guitars since 1976 and this is a true "Keeper". I bought it new and it’s about due for a Fret Job. I also use (have for many years) D’Addario Phospher Bronze EJ-16s and they are perfect for this Guitar. A very beautiful and well made Instrument indeed, awesome tone/sound, Great action (I lowered mine re. Sanded down the Saddle). I had a Tabacco Brown one back in 92 but I had to sell it, that was difficult. It took me 3 years to find this one. Learn to play it, take good care of it, keep it in a good case and hand it down to your kids. ENJOY! Mick

The answer depends, but here is the info from the Washburn archives:
1992-Spruce Top-$699 for six string (MSRP)
        $749 for 12 String (MSRP)
1993-Flamed Sycamore Top- $829 for Six String (MSRP)
        $839 for 12 String (MSRP)

Probably the Sycamore if the wood maches all the way around. I have the 12 string and it’s a sweet guitar.

I actually will be selling my 1989 Washburn EC-29. I will be posting on EBay tomorrow (12/20/08). If you are interested I will send you pics on the guitar. It is all original w/case in mint condition (barely played I still have 5 electric guitars plus this one). I will have a buy it now of probably $500-600 which is an excellent price. Great varied sound out of this guitar, plus it’s extremely easy to play. It can shred also of course. All original pup’s, no routing or any holes or scratches on the guitar! I had it since 1990, but the black sharpie w/signature came off easy (even standard guitar cleaner took it off i.e.)! By the way it was Nuno who signed it as a contest winner guitar, from a local radio station in Philly (WMMR I believe)

: Look at ebay Germany their is a Washburn ec36.

I see you are looking for a golden ticket to heaven. You will have to look pretty hard to find one. You could always tune a 7 string normal if you want more notes, put a light gage on the bottom, will be another A for the 7th string, and will be easier than climbing those little stairs on the 36 fretter!

      Hi Kevin,

I have an ec36 I am looking to sell. I just bought a Satriani Ibanez, so the wife says the EC must go. Anyway, it does not have the original pickup in it. It has been changed to a Dimarzio Fred pickup (you can see I’m a Satch fan). It sounds great! Also, a traditional tone control has been added in place of the funky tone the original electronics had. If you are interested in it, drop me an email at [email protected].

By the way, it is the "White Lightening" paint scheme. I can email pics to you if you would like.

      Thanks,

      Tim

I have these two guitars and they are fantastic. The 44 is a Rock God it can make noises other have to plug pedals to achieve, the 20 is great for blues and pop. If you see these MG guitars buy them they are #better or equal to the big names and usually for pennies.

I own a Washburn D17-CE/WR (Wine Red w/Flame Maple top) The MSRP in 92-95 was about $1000.00. I once had a TB (Tabacco)and would love to find another one but, I had to sell it. So, replaced it with the WR in 95 as it was the only one I could find new but is a beautiful instrument in ALL respects. These are AWESOME guitars. I even still have the original color Advertisment Sheet from when I bought the TB Washburn and it shows mutiple models. It shows all three color options.
Anyway, hit me up if ya wanna sell or trade my Ovation.
      Mick
I installed Solid Ebony end pins and it made quite a difference in tone. I am due for a fret job soon as I have played the Hell of of mine. Still my favorite Acoustic and will never let it go. I would trade my Ovation S778 Elite Special a $1400.00 guitar w/molded Ovation Branded (SKB) Case even though I really love it’s tone and playability too, for a back up Washburn D17.

I totally agree, this is one sweet guitar !!! I happened to be working at a Washburn dealer (97′) when I bought mine, directly from a factory Rep, I got it very cheap !! But, as best I remember the MSRP was around $1000.00. I love this guitar, and with just a little touch of stereo "chorus", the piezo electronics, the clean sound will make you melt. VERY awesome !!! Everything is book-matched, absolutely beautiful !!! I will never sell this guitar !!!

I have a Washburn D17 DES/BR, bought it in 1993 or 1994. Besides electrics, I’ve owned 4 different acoustic guitars, played a bunch more friends’ acoustics, and I’ve never liked a guitar better than this one. For one thing, it stays in tune for so long, I can just pick it up and play it if I don’t feel like stopping to tune and it sounds great. I can play riffs almost like I do on my telecaster. And the beauty of the wood and design is tops. Glad to hear others love it as much as me. Keep on rockin.

I’ve owned this guitar since I bought in 199?4 at Robb’s Music in Boulder, CO. I love it. Played and recorded with it from Blues to Bluegrass. It has been such a solid performer! Thanks for the help!

I recently traded some equipment for a D17CES BR went online to Washburn web site and found the archives. These guitars were made 1993 only and the MSP was $892.00. One way to tell the year is the inlaid W on the 12th fret. I love this guitar I put a set of D’Addario EJ16 Light Phosphor Bronze and love the way it sounds

The answer depends, but here is the info from the Washburn archives:

          $749 for 12 String (MSRP)

I bought (stole) one at a pawn shop about 3 years ago for $110.00.
mine has mahogany body & set neck, figured maple top with trans. amber finish, 24 frets on a graphite board, abalone position markers, and I replaced the emg pickups, which I hated, with dimarzios, and installed a trem setter to stabilize the bridge. WHAT A GREAT GUITAR!!!

I have a George washburn signature series extended cutaway 36 fret guitar in excellent condition. It is black and red "crackle" paint. It has floyd rose tremolo with locking nut, with rosewood fingerboard. It has a seymore duncan humbucker pickup with a custom "splitter switch/output /volume" to allow single coil only. it also has a tone control knob. It is a very unique guitar that was sold for $1199.00 before the custom electrical work was done. I would be willing to sell it with a hard shell case.
