Des Lauriers

I found an electric guitar with the name Des Lauriers on it. Could you tell me anything about this? I can find nothing about it on any of the sites I have checked out. It is made in Korea.

I would appreciate any information you may have available.

Thanks,
Ellen Rose

Info on des lauriers.

Hey everyone. this thread is probably dead, but i have info on these. Des Lauriers were manufactured ifrom 1976-1986 (im pretty sure) either way only ten years, by a company called matsumoku in japan, they also made vantage guitars, aria guitars, washburn, and even epiphone. sometime after that production moved to korea i think by samick again i could be wrong. look up matsumoko and try and find more but this took me all day to figure out. happy playing!

Des Lauriers Classical

I have a classical with a serial number- 86240 and then someone wrote under that number this-
#93500.
The model number says- D-902F.

I picked it up at a yard sale for cheap for fun about 6 years ago. It looks old and stuff. Has a sticker that says reinforced neck...WIERDEST PART THAT I'M INTERESTED IN AND WOULD LIKE INFO ON-
The pickguard on it is black and has a hummingbird with white vines drinking nectar. The pickguard isn't normal, it's a little jagged like. (Not a tear drop.) I'm looking to sell it and was wondering how mch the pickguard made it worth! The fretboard is half dead- on the 7th fret to the 12th it's dead. I know how to fix this and stuff, but just throwing that out there. SUnburst color btw. I would love any info as I'm trying to buy some JHS pedals (LOOK THEM UP!!!!!!!) and if anyone's interested in it...? I picked it up from some indian guy for 7 bucks next door. He was selling it for 50, but when I told him about the dead spots he said 20. I said I only had 7. Sucker. Any info be great....

I have a red Des Lauriers

I've played on my red Des for 12 years now, It's amazing.
I had it used by two people before me, filled with battle scars but still sounded great. I had to change the frets about 1 year ago and sounds better than ever. All blood red, single hambucker, short neck, smooth and fast. I'm interested in buying another one 'cause if something happens to mine i don't know where to find another. Just one issue, i live in Uruguay (try to find it in the map, hint: south south america).
But if anyone has one for sale or any kind of info i'd really appreciate it.
I'm also interested in bass guitars, heard that they're as good as the guitars.
Thanks

Not to give away your age, but what year was your guitar new? I'm just curious because I hear that these were made in the 1960's, 1970's and 1980's but I really don't know. Thanks.

I have a Des Lauriers. It is completely black, slightly beaten, and the serial # is 1061. It also says DE-60 underneath the serial#. it was made in Korea (according to the sticker on it). It has a small body. it is electric with one one humbucker one volume and one tone knob. At the top of the head there is an etching of the word MAISON. ( the i has a star over it.) Plaese email me with any findings or similarities.

Re: Des Lauriers

I have a Des Lauriers. It's solid ivory white.
Small and sort of Gibson SG Junior styled.
Serial No. 53. No mention of where it was made.

Dual DiMarzio Super Distortion 2s.
Three position switch.
Single vol. and single tone control.
I replaced the cheap whammy/saddle set up with an oldie but a goldie, a Leo Quan Bad Ass!

I love this guitar. I used to have a 68 Gib. SG Jr.
The D.L. has a nostalgic feel and sound to it.
Not much info that I can find.

Re: Des Lauriers

I have one also, it is glossy jet black. I've had it in my collection for about 21 years. I purchased it around 1983, Des Lauriers is a japanese/american guitar company that was only around for about 10 years or so. They were bought out by a german guitar company and stopped producing the des Lauriers because it cost too much to make. If yours is in good shape it could be worth about $500-$1000. I have been offered $1000 on many occasions but continuously turn them down. I would tell you to hold on to it. It became an unexpected collectible, sort of like the car De Lorean. Hope this helps.

I also have one

I have one too. My dad found it in the dumpster at his work and brought it home. It is orange with a single humbucker and a volume and tone knob. It has an extremely wierd body shape. If any one know anything about the company or the guitar, i would like to hear it.

Thanks.

I was beginning to think I was the only person on the planet with a guitar made by this company. Mine is a small (about 24" scale) electric with a funky checkerboard pattern on it, and other than that it's white from top to bottom. One humbucker, volume control, tone control. It's my first guitar that my parents got me when I was about 13 or 14. It's kinda dinged up now, but I just noticed the thing has virtually no heel. Unlike the Washburn I just bought. :) I'm in the process of looking for information myself now.

Hello Otto and Ellen, I too have one of these Des Lauries guitars. Mine is the "Blood Red" with a distintive shape as Otto described. What does yours look like , Ellen? I found mine at a garage sale too, for five dollars. I put about $50 dollard worth of work into it and now it is one of my favorites. I couldn't find a serial # or place of manufacture. Keep searching the net! Thanks Rick

Re: Des Lauriers

Hi,

My name is Mike. I work for Robbie's Music City in New Jersey in the U.S. These guitars were made for someone who works here when he had his own import/export business. He also had a line of amps called Rascal. That is about as much as I know. We still have a few floating around here.

Re: Des Lauriers

I found a guitar with the same name on it. I found it in a dumpster in a studio complex. It has a distincteve body shape on it and it is bright orange. I would like more infoabout this guitar. If anyone knows anything plaease share your info. Thanks.

Re: Des Lauriers

I also just bought a unique Des Lauiers bass guitar at a local guitar shop. It was around 100 dollars, and it was worth it. It is a smaller scale and has a really nice tone that comes from a single humbucking pickup. It is red, with a distinct body shape and the serial number is: 4

Re: Des Lauriers

I bought a white short-scale Des Laurier bass at a yard sale for 50 dollars. great instrument. fretting is very easy and action is incredible. serial number is 51. white body, single H.B. pickup, 1 volume, 1 tone. unique shape, comparable to strat shape, but horns are very slender and almost even with each other. id love to know more about it.

Des Lauriers

Des lauriers was only in buisness for ten years and were originally in Japan but moved to Korea and eventually Taiwan so some models may be from different places.
