I picked up this acoustic guitar doing rubbish removal I don’t know much about guitars but it looked old and was in such good condition I couldn’t just throw it away(it was in a case and everything). The label inside the guitar says Diastone handcrafted by Takamine model nmber TG 009. I cam’t find anything on that serial number. I would like to sell it but have no idea what I can reasonably expect to get. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I have a Diastone FS-120 guitar I would like to sell. I have searched the internet and I cannot find anything on the FS-120. There is a lot of info on the FS-140 but not the FS-120. What is this guitar?

I heard it was made in Japan for Gibson when they were on strike. Is this true? It is a 6 string acoustic and is a red colour and in excellent shape.Looking forward for your reply.Thank you.

Sheila, I have a Diastone 12-string WGT-65 that I recently bought from a guy who paid $435 in 1971 in Toronto. In today’s dollar that is about $2330. Having said that though, I cannot find any information about this guitar. I have asked vintage guitar experts and they are all stumped. My 12-string plays very sweetly and has great intonation. It sounds as good as any 12-string Gibson or Takemine, I have played. I bought mine for $750 just the other day. I held off finalizing the deal until I could determine if it was worth it, but as I mentioned, no one, and I mean NO ONE (except for this forum and one guy with a FLICR photo dossier) has heard of this guitar. So how do you value it?? I guess the only way is to sample a few guitars that cost sound better and worse and then average the price between them all. So my advice, charge $750, seems like a good value.

I have a Takemine Diastone 12 string purchased in the late 60’s – cannot find out much about it but have been told that the company Diastone was taken over by Takemine and that is where the model came from. I would like to know a bit more about it – have not played it in years and was wondering if it is worth spending the money on to get it set up and re-strung etc ??
Takemine web site has no record of this guitar – any info will be of help:

Not that it,s much help but I have a Diastone Bass (Fender Precision copy ), In a collectible guitar book my friend had I came across something on DiasTone, if I remember well Dias Tone made copies of Fender ( and obviously Gibson too ) Using the same quality wood & similar hardware, the only thing that was cheaper was the pick-ups & knobs. My bass has the exact body of a precision model, the neck is almost the same ( beter in my opinion ). I think it was made in southern U.S.A. but I could be wrong.

The other day I was looking through craig’s list and was shocked to see a red 12 string with a very unique pick guard. It was the same pick guard that should have been on a Yamaha FG-300 red label I bought a couple of years ago. The Yamaha is an amazing 6 string. I bought the 12 string, a Diastone and I’m sure it was made in the same factory as the Yamaha in the early 70s. The person I bought my Diastone from, and who had a lot of older japanese guitars, said it was the Matsumoku Guitar factory. My guitar, by the way, sound awesome!

              grant

I have a Daistone Les Paul that I got from my Grandfather in 1988. He had it ever since I can remember which is around 1980. I’m sure he had it longer than that but I was born in 77. He’s dead now so can’t ask him. I just wanted to try and get some info on it, like what it could be worth, when and were it was made? Its a beautiful star burst colour. Plays awesome, sounds great. That’s all I know

I had bought a Dias Tone Les Paul in 1977 for Geo. Heinl & Sons in Toronto. They were/are? a well known vendor of band and orchestra instruments but they also had these guitars. I sold it, probably in 1978 or 1979 to a buddy and he sold it shortly after. I’ve been looking for it ever since. I know your post is old but thought I’d reach out for what it’s worth.

I have a Diastone 6 string acoustic which I bought new in the mid seventies for $130. I’ve always loved how it plays and sounds (better than some others which are supposed to better quality) but have never had any work done to it. Now the bridge has come loose and there is damage to the top which is not a solid top. My local luthier says he can repair it and replace some frets for $150 which I feel is reasonable but I’m debating whether to invest any money in it or replace it. I’ve been reading that some Diastones were basically copies of Martin, Gibson, Tak or Yamaha. This is a model FG-60 red sunburst with laminated spruce top and when I bought it I thought it was very close to a Yamaha (who also made a FG60). Does anyone else have this model and do you know if this might have been made by Yamaha or as a copy? Also what would current value be if in good shape? Any input would be helpful. Thanks

I also own an FG-60 Diastone guitar purchased in the late 70’s. It was given to me as a gift so I don’t know what the original price was. The pickguard was painted with hummingbirds which tells me that it was a copy of the Gibson Hummingbird although most of the painting is wore off now after 45 years of usage. It has been and still is a great little guitar and like yourself I have done nothing to it other than change the strings occasionally. Like Gibson and Martins and other high end guitars, it just seems to get better with age. I would be interested in hearing from you to . Ron

I also have an FG-60, which my mother purchased in the early 1980’s used; it sounds amazing. I wish we could find out more about these guitars… she finally let me bring it back with my on my last trip home and has reignited my love for playing music. I had a Fender beginner’s guitar for a couple of years, but it doesn’t sound great and it’s difficult to press the strings down…. so the Diastone is miles ahead.

I own a Diastone W65-DA, which is a Gibson White Dove copy. I bought the guitar at a car-boot sale in Liverpool for £10. The guitar was a wreck, bridge coming away from the body, bracing broken, nut broken, machine-head missing, a very sad example of what had obviously been a decent guitar. The guitar languished about the house, on the wall as an ornament, an occasional kid’s plaything, but I was always curious about it’s origins, and it’s playability but was reluctant to pay for what I knew would be an expensive restoration job. I finally bit the bullet and took it to a local luthier who’s very well thought of in the business, and he said he’d do the job for £210, and I gave him the go ahead and parted with the cash. Result? … the nicest acoustic guitar I’ve ever owned in 47 years of owning and playing guitars. My son has a Taylor, and this Diastone knocks spots off it, it sounds incredible, and now he wants it. I think these guitars are little hidden gems from the Law Suit era that have yet to be discovered by the vintage guitar market, and I’m on the lookout for another while they’re still affordable.

I have a Playtime Archtop handed down from my great grandfather. He bought it in the 30’s or 40’s. That is all i know. It does seem to be a low end guitar as the flame maple is just a paint job (not actual maple).
Any information on these guitars would be appreciated as well.

Would like information on when, where "Playtime" Guitars produced. Word of mouth is they were built by Kay in the 40′ and 50’s as a low end knockoff for sale like Silvertone was sold by Sears. Possible outlets were Western Auto. Would like to communicate with owners as the one I have was handed down by my father.

I have a Playtime archtop guitar that belonged to my Grandmother. It was coming apart when my Dad gave it to me and a lot of the finish was worn off from being played so much.. I put it back together, refinished it, and added 2 piezo pickups and a stereo endpin jack. Not a lot of these have survived the test of time. When they would come apart people would throw them away since they were low end guitars. What little you can fine on the internet says thay were made in Chicago by Harmony, and were sold as a low end guitars by Sears in 1943 and 1944. The years are pretty close to right since she bought it new when my Dad was just a boy. Hope that helps!

I recently took mine to an "apraiser". I too was curious what the value of my guitar was. The serial # in mine is either S 1789 12 or 8 1789 12. From what the gentleman told me it is either a 1958 or 1959 worth $300- $350,after reading the follow-ups people sent you I wonder if I misunderstood, maybe mine is worth 3000. Mine has a crocodile case in bad shape, but the guitar is in excellent shape.

        Hi, SuzyQJC,
I would probably give you $100 for it especially because it needs a case. I don’t really think it’s worth that much, but for me it has sentimental value. I’m now 63 and I took my first guitar lessons on the same guitar in 1961. I have no recall about what happened to it (maybe I sold it to your dad? LOL) but it would be fun to have again. If it’s in good shape and you’re interested, please let me know.

      hi julie,

in fact this type of guitar was for students, beacause it wasn’t expensive model. So value depend with the birth of creation of your guitar and with the conservation. Value is better when all the element of your guitar are from the origin. The micro of this guitar, a P90 is one of the best to play jazz and blues.
So, i think that value is approximatively of 1000$ in us and 1500€ in europe.

Julien is correct… nominally about $1000 today in good condition. Mint or near mint can fetch approximately $1,300.00 to $1,500.00.

I, too, have one that is a one-owner, all original in mint to near mint condition with original sales tag and warranty form that was never filled out. It’s a 1964 model. I recently
had it fitted to a new Gibson case, although I also have the original hardshell case.

I may contemplate selling it sooner or later. It’s a classic little guitar and a charm to play.

I have one that I bought from a friend of mine in 1972. It came with a small box amp for $50.00. I have literally worn the frets off this guitar and it has at least four paint jobs. It is pretty much solid black right now. I swapped out the pickups for some humbucking pickups and never looked back. I am wanting to get the frets replaced on it and keep on Rocking. I coupled it with a Fender pro Reverb amp with Celestion speakers. I get such amazing tonal qualities out of it. I also have an Ibanez Solid body which is very nice, But that Royal Artist is my baby.

I have a Bruno Royal Artist 6 string electric guitar that was given to me to restore for a friend of mine. serial #6504731 exist on the neck plate sunburst color. a couple of scratches and dent buts other wise mint condition. I like the way you can adjust the neck pick-up to suit your needs the sound is also nice it has some options that i wish were available on today’s model of guitars. I not sure but i believe the owner said it came from sears cataloge back in the 60’s his dad bought it for him when he was a kid. I going to take it a guitar show here in arlington texas to get it apraised or to at least get some more information on it. e-mail me with your comments or info.

      Ray Cochrane

I’m onto my 2nd Bruno Royal artist. The 1st I had I bought in about 1978 for AU$70. It had a slightly modified p/up (pole pieces removed)which gave it a very pronounced bottom E. I gather it was used by a self accompanied country singer. The name had been removed & Gibson painted in its place – I assume because it has a very approximate 355 look. The bridge p/up – unmodified – really cut through. I loved it but it was stolen from my home 2 years ago.
I found another on eBay last year after much looking. It cost me, after postal from Florida to Australia & customs charges around $450 but is well worth it. I’ve had to spend an additional $75 chasing a new bridge p/up as this one had a busted one. It’s still a work in progress as I haven’t quite matches the sound of the p/up. Easy to play, light, absolutely georgeous to look at & with a bit of tube preamping it makes an awsome racket.
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I’ve enjoyed mine.
      ray
PS I have an Emprador semi bass which makes a pigeon pair with the Bruno in looks.

anyone able to help/inform me re: ES Artist electronics? the boards are clearly MOOG in manufacture and really are supposed to be the cat’s ass when they are fully functional. How to get and keep them that way? Is Bob Moog out there? I understand he does assist in getting the right help occasionally, from his retirement in Florida somewhere. Any and all help is gratefully accepted.

        Alphonze

I struggled a lot with the electronics over years. Nothing advanced here, just lousy handwork. Resolder everywhere, if it doesent help, rewire everywhere.
It´s a hell, believe me. My best advice is: Since this guitar never will be collectible just dig the hole thing out and rewire it to passive modus. It sounds and feels much better. Here is the:diagrams:
        http://www.guitarelectronics.com/product/WDUHH3T2101/WDUHH3T2101.html

Some people changes the pickups due to advices from "experts" hwo claim that the impedance is too low. I stick to the originals, no prob. They really sound bigger and better without the Moog boards. Those you can put in a box and make a cool pre amp if you need.
My Es-Artist 1980 was unplayed for 15 years.
After the rewiring it´s my favorite.

Just bought one at a garage sale for $40.00 in mint condition, think it is a 1962, serial number 42840. Also bought a B-15 for 40$ at the same sale. Don’t play, but knew they were worth more than that!!!! Thinking about taking up the guitar. Looking on the web, looks like I bought a gem! Frets have no wear, body and neck are flawless….Not sure if I wana sell, until I investigate further.

: I have an old Playtime guitar that seems like a regular sized guitar. I would like to find information about it and two others including how to date and value them. What/where is a resource to help me learn more about old guitars? One guitar belonged to my grandfather when he was younger and he would now be over 100 yrs old. Another has part of a label on the top above where the keys are that you use to tune the guitar. The brand appears to be something that starts with a "Na??? In and on the next line "Au????" The label was gold colored with red lettering and there is a treble clef music measure with a notation for B and E flats. This is a small 6 string guitar, has black "keys for tuning and metalholders for the strings. Around the "hole" of the guitar is a plastic type decoration that is gold speckled. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you. E. Scott

I had a F hole arch top blonde guitar. but it got stolen in the Air Force.

I do know they are primarily a 1940’s guitar and very rare any more. You may look inside the holes and if the sticker is still ther can find the date and original price. And that is all I can tell you.

Mine was given to my by a friend of my parents in the 60’s and I had it for about 5 years before someone stole it. Excellent guitar for beginer or expert.

Does anyone know anything about this guitar or it’s manufacture. I need to find out some info on this because the guitar needs to be restored and i am not sure I want to spend a lot of money on it.

I need some info on a guitar I aquired 15 years ago. It’s a Capa Continental electric guitar off white in color with two chrome humbucker type pickups. It has two old style tone switces that slide up and down as opposed to the toggle switches of today’s guitars. I know the previous owner purchased it brand new back in the mid 60’s at an old guitar store where he was taking lessons. The guitar is in very good condition an still sounds great to this day. I know absolutely nothing about Capa Continental instruments or where they were made. I have searched the internet and can find no info on this instrument or its origin. Is there anybody out there that can provide me with some info about this instrument? It would be greatly appreciated. G Parker.

I have been searching for years for info on CAPA Continental guitars. I bought one in 1967 and sold it to an old guy in 1973 along with my Heathkit amp and an original Cry-Baby Wah. No one has ever heard of a CAPA. It was the sweetest guitar I have ever owned, great action on a super slim neck. I have owned a dozen guitars since, but none of them compare, including my old strat. Where are all the old CAPAs??

I had a Capa Continental in the mid ’60’s. It also was white and really terrific. My guitar teacher picked up for me. Here’s what he told me. A man who had worked for Fender as a head designer and technician went into business for himself. He said this man was very influential in some of the classic Fender designs. He used the stratocaster and telecasters as guides when he made his guitars. The business was very short-lived. Most people in music shops have never heard of the Capa. Now I wish I had kept it. I feel like I sold a Tucker. 🙂

I played one in a band in the last 60s. It was a second brand made in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I also believe it had something to do with the company that produced the guitars that The Ventrures originally played (the name slips my mind). Mine was light blue with white guard, somewhat like a strat. I bougth it in Charlotte NC if that helps at all.

I played in a band in the late 60ies with a guy that owned a Capa continantal. It was Strat copy, off white with a maple neck. He played it through a Fender super reverb amp. The thing sounded awesome, so much so that I searched for one 2 years ago. After not finding one I purchased a 50th anny Strat from Fender that looked just like it. It really brings back memories. I think Capa went out of business sometime in the 80ies.

      Bob D

Someone gave me one of these back around 1983, I string it up as a six string. It sounds excellent, with a great plunky or twangy character, stays in tune, plays great, it’s still the main electric guitar I use on everything I do. I often stick a little PZM mic inside the body and record the twangy acoustic sound as well as the sound from the amp.

Just had to reply, being one of the relatively few Bruno players and appreciators in the world!

Thought I did this already, but anyway. Just got one given to me. Was very dirty but after light cleaning it didn’t look bad. Plan on getting new strings which it needs badly and give it a try. Nothing to loose from what I can see. Neck and every thing looks sound. Haven’t plugged her in yet. Maybe someone here can help me identify the exact model number of a guitar I used to own in the lage ’60s. It was a Gibson ES-125 3/4, but it was a single cutaway small body. It looked just like a hollow body Les Paul. Single soap bar pickup. The only ES-125 models I see have no cutaway design. I think this was a rarity with a distinct model number that I am not aware of.

How many times does he have to tell you that he doesn’t want your ass?! You were just a free romp in the backseat of your man’s Caddy. Stop opening your legs to every Ni**a that wants some and maybe you’ll have something special until then you’ll never be happy, oh and I meant what I said in my last email so you’ve been warned. I purchased a W-700 today from a guitar repair guy I’ve known for 30 years.Cost me $400. He thought it was a solid top, but having read your post then checking it out closely, this time with my glasses on, it does appear to be laminated.
Who cares? This guitar is in fantastic shape, plays beautifully and sound brilliant. One of the nicest I’ve played. It’s replacing a solid top Korean Ibanez Artwood which has pulled itself out of shape over the eight years I’ve owned it whereas the Diastone "plywood" top is still in perfect shape after 30+ years. I wouldn’t be too worried about putting a pick-up in it as they’re obviously tough little critters.

.and 2 1/2 years later I’ve checked again and I was wrong. The W-700 has a solid top. Mine looked laminated because it had been relacquered at some stage and it gave the effect of looking like ply in the sound hole. But the grain in the timber goes right through the "ply" so it can’t be. No wonder it sounds so good. I nearly bought a Martin last week but pulled out of the deal because it simply was not better than this beautiful little guitar. One thing I have noticed with this more than any other folk guitar I’ve owned is how is literally comes alive when played in a room with excellent acoustics. I love it.

I have (loaned from my dad) a Diastone W-700 acoustic 6 string, has a thick neck and an unusual brigde, there is a metal plate with two screws holding up the bone piece. It sounds so nice I thought i would get some sort of pick up put in it so i could use it live, and the guitar store man told me it was a plywood top and that it wasn’t worth the expense of putting any type (not even the cheapest of cheap) pick ups in it. Upon my return home and thourough inspection I still can’t be sure, but I’m swaying towards a laminated ply top unfortunately. It still sounds amazing.
I’m asking the same question every else is though, what’s it worth? Is there really some rich collector of mysterious phantom guitar brands willing pay to ungodly amounts of money for it? Did anyone else luck out with the Plywood top? where do baby’s come from? and is it still worth putting a pick up in it?
Think my dad bought it for a $300-$400 Australian some time in the 70’s. drop us a line if anyone actually found anything out about Diastone [email protected] or if you are on of those rich collectors of mysterious phantom brands. Or if you too have a Diastone that looks ply

I purchased a Diastone SF 118 from a small shop in Portland about 25 years ago while on a business trip. I couldn’t leave town without it. Paid around 200 for it. It reminded me of the Martin D18 I bought in the late 70’s that I latter had to sell. It has the mahogany back and sides like a D18 but the binding and back stripe of a D28. So it looks like a D28 but sounds more like a D18. The guy at the shop told me that these were Martin copies made in Japan during the 70’s. He said the S stood for solid top and the F stood for folk guitar. The 118 was in reference to the Martin D18 and 28 series. The two 1’s and a 8 = 28 and the last two 18. It’s a combo Martin D18 and D28. Very warm and rich sound. It’s as good or better then my friends more expensive Breedlove or Taylor. It’s the only one I’ve ever seen. I don’t know what they are worth but they are a quality instrument.

        2. The w-700 is LAMINATED %100… Some old guy was selling it, and SWORE it was solid top.. I kept asking him because he was a far drive, he said he ‘knows a lot about guitars’ and it was ‘%110 solid top’…. I get there… it was laminated.. wow old dudes are so stubborn, kept swearing it was solid even while Im pointing out the layers to him and showing him how the grain does not wrap around. Just posting this so nobody else wastes their time driving..

I have a model F-600 six string acoustic. I wish I knew more about guitars so I could explain it a little better… but it has a yellow (blonde?) coloured front with a black pick guard. The neck, sides and back are all a reddish wood, with an inverted V shape of the blonder wood going down from the neck on the back. There is a bit of white and green detail on the edges of the blonde wood. It’s a little dinged up here and there, but I’ve been told it has a really nice sound buy a guitar conniseur or two…

I was just wondering if mine is supposed to be a copy of some other guitar… Is the V shape on the back a common thing?

I have a "Diastone by Takamine Model TG-003" guitar and the hardshell case that I bought at the same time. I bought it new in 1970 but have developed arthritis to the point that I can no longer play it. It is in mint condition. Can anyone tell me anything about what this may be worth? I understand that Diastone went out of business many years ago, so I figure it is probably very rare now, although it was made by Takamine. I can’t seem to find anyone who knows anything about it.

          1. Diastone WG-65 Hummingbird Copy
            Anonymous

            Hey guys!

It’s cool to see so many people with a similar interest about these old Diastone guitars… I don’t know a ton about them but I’ll share the little info I have come across…
So basically I got my Diastone WG-65 from my mom a few years ago that had it given to her sometime back in the good ol’ days. I knew it was obviously an old Japanese clone of a Gibson Hummingbird but I didn’t know much else until I started researching the lawsuit era of guitars, specifically Takamine acoustics who were notorious for making copies of Martin guitars form the early 70s to the early 80s. I stumbled across a video of a guy explaining the lawsuit era and the history of Takamine and in the video he explained that there was a company called Diastone that was contracted to make Martin clones in the 1960s and in the late 60s, early 70s Takamine purchased the Diastone company and with that received the blueprints for Martin guitars, which lead into the notorious lawsuit era Takamines from the 70s that we all know and love. I know it’s not much but I thought I’d share anyway… If anyone has any more info about the Diastone, specifically the Gibson copes, I’d love to hear!

I’ll put the link to the video below for anyone interested in the Takamine lawsuit era guitars!

Found this site after buying a Diastone 12-string from an Auction for £10 equivalent of c: $18. Nobody in that quiet suburb between Glasgow & Edinburgh knew the brand and, to be fair, neither did I. It sounded good with the 3 strings it had left, so, I took a gamble and restored it with new strings, an overhaul and a bit of fine tuning. Sounds terrific. I have a friend who is a keen 12-string guitarist and I will seek his opinion/ knowledge.
Know nothing else, however, I’m keen to know more. Anyone know the Model no’ of the 12-string? Thanks.

I do know this model is a copy of The Gibson Hummingbird that was the conversation from store it was bought, it also has the bird and flowers on the Pick Guard same as the real thing. I estimate mine was bought in 75 or 76. I’m in total agreement the guitar sound and plays great, I’ve had it since brand new. The common denominator seems to be Gibson copies??…My hunch is maybe Gibson went on strike and the guitars were still maunufactured under the name Diastone. Keep on Srummin and Pickin…..Regards Terry

I bought a new Diastone 12 string guitar in 1974 that sounds amazing and stays in tune. It looks like a Gibson copy and a music store suggested that the Diastone company was one of several companies that was politely asked (legally) to cease and desist making such good copies – this may or may not be true. It would be difficult now to find out what happened to them but they certainly made excellent guitars. The WT-65 model is a jumbo and much louder than my Taylor acoustic. I also have a Parker Nitefly – also excellent!

I’ve been trying to track this company down with no luck. I’ve got a diastone martin clone uke. It is an excellent instrument, right up there with the martin as far as material, construction and craftsmanship. I’ve asked many experts on and off the web and it has drawn a blank from everyone. Did you ever find anything out, Chris?

Guess who just bought an old Diastone :-))
It looks like a Gibson Hummingbird sunburst jumbo but with a plain Martin style headstock.
It is a model TJ-001 and has a very warm, complex tone, sounding quite unlike all of my other acoustics (Takamine, Fender, Epiphone, Landola, Eko).
Interestingly, the interior label states "Hand crafted by Takamine".
As it is a fair age (1970’s?) I got in touch with Takamine. They said that they don’t have records from that era, but as they did make guitars for other companies it is almost certainly a genuine early Takamine.
Like all Diastone owners, I would really love to know something of the history of the company and my guitar in particular!

I have a DiasTone Les Paul. I heard rumour Diastone guitars were made in the Ibanez factory. I dunno. My Diastone guitar plays great though. Like a real Les Paul, Cherry Sunburst, set through neck the works.

: I’ve been trying to track this company down with no luck. I’ve got a diastone martin clone uke. It is an excellent instrument, right up there with the martin as far as material, construction and craftsmanship. I’ve asked many experts on and off the web and it has drawn a blank from everyone. Did you ever find anything out, Chris?

I’m thrilled that there is life for the Diastone guitars. The thing that I heard back in ’86 was that the Company had gone belly up in the late 70’s.
I’m pretty sure my LesPaul by Diastone is a ’76.

              Guys!
I purchased an acoustic classical Diastone guitar with the hardshell case for 75 CAD. The model of it is TG – 300. The body top color is reddish and sides and back are dark wood.
The sound is OK. The frettboard somewhat slightly fingered out. It’s in Ok shape. Any idea if it’s worth the money, or more money? Appreciate for the feedback. Al

Hello! I`ve got one of this make and model. I cant fullt read out the serial number dur to pool embellishing but I assume it should consist of 8 digits/maybe letters. SNo: (?)(9?)(8, 9or3)32168. I overtook it around 1985 when my older sister moved out, and she got it brandnew from our parentes I guess ~1975-1977. According to my father it was`nt the cheapest guitar in the shop. I appreciate this guitar more an more as a break from my more expensive Martin Western Guitar (steel strings) or my cheaper electric Arbiter SG 62-clone or just for chill playing on the couch. I think it has a nice ”Spanish” tone, but I dont recomend it for new beginners. There are easier and cheaper starters. I would guess a new price for similar guitar of same ”quality” $500-800 (2018) but I`m not an expert. I will not sell my precious guitar.

I put a similar mesage on a few years ago as I have a 12 string, too. They originated in Japan in the ’70’s but the company folded. Don’t know why. Value, ? some have suggested a few hundred dollar, or around £120, but I think they are worth more. Their sound is terrific. My Daughter & Son-in-law are in Japan working. I might just send them a wee project and I’ll post any info’ I get on here.

It is a nice guitar and playable although the neck is slightly warped. The bridge has a crack that is starting to open so I will repair it soon. The body is in very good shape. I bought my 12-string Diastone model WF-220 back in 1974. The retail price was $450, I think. I had tried every acoustic in the store that day and the Diastone sounded the best and played the easiest. It fit my hand like a glove. I’ve owned it 32 years now and it still looks like new. I have no intention of selling it, but I would like to know what it’s worth. Any information would be helpful and greatly appreciated. Play on brothers and sisters…

I hope folks are still following this thread. I have a Diastone Classical (TG-003S). I must have bought it at least 30 years ago. I was thinking of e-baying it since it gets no use these days which is a shame since its a beautiful piece of workmanship and has a beautiful rich tone. Any ideas what I should set as a reserve?

Email me at [email protected] and I will send photos of the Diastone acoustic. It looks.plays and even sounds like a martin d series guitar. I held it up next to one in a local music store and asked others for a blind comparison. Its really good .I got mine from a guy that bought his in Japan .Yep another great Jap copy I was told that Diastone built some after specs and tooling for martin guitars in the 70s. I also like 80s Jap made fender strats as they too are great to compare with mexican strats and of equal or better quality than todays American strats. KONICHIWA

I realise this is an old post but I have just found it. I own a Diastone 6 String F600. My wife worked in a music shop in the mid 70’s, this guitar was damaged in transit,
repaired and she bought it for me for £24.
I had always assumed that it was a cheap guitar until I picked up a friends ludicrously expensive acoustic (don’t recall the make but it cost £1600) and it was no better than mine either in playing action or tone. I recall reading a write up somewhere about Diastone guitars and they were said to be as good as the Martin guitars on which they were modelled. I won’t be selling mine but thought I would throw my bit into the ring albeit 4 years after the original post

                    Hi guys;

                    I purchased a Diastone 6 string Acoustic in 1976
From George Heinel & Sons down town Toronto. One of Georges son’ Rick Made a black ebony bridge with mother of pearl inlays of two birds and added mother of pearl spots on the back and and the neck. Also put on new and better tuning pegs made in West Germany ( they have an S symbol on them.)
The serial number of the guitar is 73092601, which could mean that it was the first one made on the 26th Sept 1973. just a guess. Anyway I have owned this guitar since then and it has always sounded great. I have had professional muscians play it and comment on what a great sound it has for an unknown guitar. Just thought I would pass this on. I don’t know if George Heinel & son’s is still in business but if so they may be able to provide some insite into what happened to the Diastone Guitar company.

                    Regards Colin Mac Donald

Hi: I have a stratavarios violin. The bow was valued over $3,000. I have heard that
there was 10 per cent of these violins made without the sounding post. Mine was one in that 10 per cent. Would it be possible to get an accurate appraisal done on this instrument. Looking forward to hearing from you Thank you. Regards Barb.

Hello, I`ve got a Diastone with sticker inside Model F-600 It says Made In Japan. It had a cracked bridge and my niece was going to throw it in the dumpster. She gave it to me and I repaired it ( I`m a woodworker ). This guitar has amazing sound for a smaller body and the neck has pretty good action. It is my main guitar as I`m an amateur and just play at home.Like most people though, I can`t get any info. and recieve blank looks when people hear the name Diastone. Any info at all would be appreciated.

                      Rex Iwaskow

It appears that this guitar was one of many built by the company called Hoshino Gakki, a japanese guitar maker that supplied parts and entire guitars for many of the major companies, like Gibson, Martin and eventually went on the create the Ibanez guitar company. The Tama company of drum fame, took over the acoustic guitar manufacture. The Diastone brand, and probably a dozen more "( )-Tone brands was one of many guitar produced by the company and sold to department stores and supermarkets. This was a time when manufacturers were flocking to Japan to get quality for cheap. A company would call and say, give me 300 acoutic guitar that look like this. Hoshino would make the guitars using the same production line. This may explain why the quality is good and that no-one has heard of them. I have a 12-string WGT-65 bought in Mississauga, On in 1973 for $465.

The search continues. If I get more info, I will post.

                    1. My Diastone story
                      Rob

In 1978 I won the grand prize at music store opening which happend to be a Diastone acoustic. At the time I didn’t play and two weeks later I was in boot camp. It stay tucked away in my mom’s sewing room for years. In the mean time my wife inherited her grandfathers Martin D18. Which I learned how to play on. About 20 years latter my mom calls and says she going to take the guitar in the sewing room to Goodwill if I don’t come a pick it up. I get it home and put some new strings on it and holy sh_t that thing rung like a bell. Clear and loud really warm bass sound just awsome. It’s a model SF – 118 with a solid top and mahogany body. It looks like a Martin D28 but with mahogany body not rosewood. Since I’ve rediscovered it I’m trying to find out more info on the Diastone brand. From other posts I gathered they made spot on copies of Martins and Gibsons using the same specs and materials. I don’t think they made very many i’ve never seen another one. My D18 and my SF -118 are about the same age give or take a year or two. The Diastone is every bit the guitar that my Martin is. They are a great find if you can find any out there. I would like to know more if anyone can find more info.

                    2. Diastone W-700
                      Anonymous

I bought my diastone w-700 over 30 years ago from a second hand shop for $80 – the best thing I ever bought. Over the years I’ve played it to death – the frets and fretboard are almost worn out now, but it has always had the most beautiful tone. I don;t know how many times I’ve had offers for it from professional muso’s but there is no way I’d sell. Everyone who has ever heard or played it comments that it’s one of the best sounding guitars they’ve heard. No one has ever heard of the brand, and it looks like they’re gone, but whoever built them really knew their stuff.

Hi, anyone–I have a Diastone WG065 accoustic guitar, and am trying to find any info. on it. There’s a small label stuck to the back of the neck saying, "Made in Japan." That’s all I know about it. Nice action, great resonance. Can anyone give me some idea of the present value of it? This one has red sides and back, and the front has a honey colour going into red on the edges. The soundhole has a 1" very fancy design around it, and the pick guard is VERY fancy, with red flowers, light grey-white leaves and green leaves, like a vine arrangement across the whole pick guard. The top of the guitar, where the pegs are, looks lika a Gibson in shape. I could forward digital photos if anyone wanted. The neck has inlaid mother-of-pearl. That’s about it. Any idea on value? No cracks or damage, v. nice condition.

I picked up a Diastone ukulele at a yard sale in Spring 08. Very nice little instrument; laminated mahogany top, back & sides. Straight neck, no serious damage aside from minor dings and bumps. Was originally going to use it as a wall ornament – I have several good ukes to play – but now think I might keep it for playing too. Would like to know more about the company if anyone can find out. Pics are on my forum at http://www.ianchadwick.com.

          Dear Gerard,
I’ve ordered and got an Franklin Jumbo some years ago. I sent a very decent set of Brazillian Rossewood to Nick to build me a second guitar (w/deposit): I’ve lost it all!! I was told by S. Grossman that N. Kukich stopped guitarmaking, due to personal problems with himself (alcohol?). So be aware dropping money, if you will ever meet him (Please drop me a note than!).

            Dear Geald,
Nick Kukich seems to be back at work, thanks to his friend Mike Dulak, who helps him to get his feet on gound. Nick sent me back ma Brazillian woods and added a nice Koa set, too (Feb. 2004). Wow! He does not want to hurt anybody. I think you should give him a chance, not only because he is/was one of the really best steels-string-luthiers. Think abot how to be save, when placing a order and help Nick to hone his name…
            Best wishes

            : Dear Gerard,
: I’ve ordered and got an Franklin Jumbo some years ago.

  17. Who made this guitar?
    Old Geezer

I was recently given an old guitar that was made in Japan. It is a knock off of a Gibson ES-335. It has the name "Conqueror" in large letters with the name "Bruno" in small letters on a small plague on the head stock. Now, I know that this is probably just another no name, no resale, no value, who cares anyways guitar. But its fine craftsmanship has got me curious. This is a well made guitar. Its finish and appointments are excellent. The hardware is of good guality and the pick-ups seem to be better than normal for a cheap guitar. The neck and body has a white binding that has yellowed with age making me believe that this guitar is old. The pick-ups appear to be single coils but are taller and wider than any I have ever seen. They are smaller than a humbucker but are just about as quiet. They have individual adjustable screws for pole pieces. The pick-ups are black with a white inset around the screws. Their sound is impressive. A strong bottom end with good clarity. The guitars natural resonance is good. The head stock, pick-ups surrounds, floating pick guard, and selector switch cover plate is made of some kind of cheezy looking yellow mother of pearl. The only thing on the guitar that is not first rate is the tuners. It has a floating tail piece with a free standing bridge that has spring loaded rollers for setting intonation. Everything about this guitar makes me think late sixties or early seventies. But I don’t know. All I know is that it sounds and plays beautiful. Would appreciate any help in determining who made this guitar, when it was made, or really just anything about it. I have’nt been able to find anything about Bruno guitars on the net. Or the style "Conqueror". All I have to go on is on the neck’s heel plate with "made in Japan" and a serial number stamped in it.

I have a 1976, tobacco sunburst Gibson ES-175, w/original case. it’s a factory "second", very rare. my understanding is that you can’t buy factory seconds anymore. it has a very minor flaw in the paint finish on a spot that you can’t even see unless you hold the guitar in a certain awkward angle… it’s a beautiful axe with superb action and tone. name your price and let’s haggle…. "….what?! won’t haggle! oh dear oh dear!!!!"

          Hello

I have a factory second es 175 – I bought in ’78. I need to sell it this week. Or I will trade it in on something else. A resonable offer will be accepted. It have a very minor imperfectionon the back – it would take you a while to find it. Other than that (the reason it was a second to begin with) it is very good shape and with a case I will sell for $1600.00. New this is $3200. Case included.

: I am doing A class project and would like any input you have on this subject

      http://www.geocities.com/RodeoDrive/Outlet/5613/

Here you will find a gibson style "O" from 1900’s This is about as old a guitar as yah get. Before this a Mandolin was mainstream instrument for gibson. Have a listen to the real audio of this guitar. Read on about it. For me it is so cool to have handled and photographed it. We also have some other nice old guitars from national. Metal body guitars. Framus Dobro style and 12 string.
The es 175 is rumored to have been played by Buddy Holly for a time. we never actually reasearched it out though. Today the guitar has been sold. The es 125 Cherokee was a part of a ray price collection possibly. The Gibson Jumbo was a big loud guitar with a large look and loud sound. This is an older guitar to. The National Playtime is my favorite. I just about bought it, but it is old and unplayable really tuning is near impossible for lack of a truss. There is a local artist guitar collector living up here. John Hall. Next time I see Michelle at decibels music. I will ask her to ask him about the oldest known guitar/s. and mabey get back to yah.
