Hi Terry. I’m new on this site and have never replied to anyone about this Guitar. I have a Diamond model # 7722. It’s in fantastic shape and plays great, It was given to me by my step father-in-law after he passed away, a few years ago. He was an excellent bass player. He also had a red, white and blue bass guitar that Buck Owens and his band made famous years back. I don’t know what happened to it. He also told me stories about playing with George Jones, years before he became a super star. Until now I wasn’t sure anyone knew about these guitars. I so glad to here, that someone knows the history of these great gitfiddles. They play and sound so good. I’m sure the Grand Slam is out there, but I’ve only read about one or two that were even made. Thanks for listening, Bob…
By the way, this guitar is for sale if anyone knows anybody looking for one. Thanks Bob…
I’m interested in buying your guitar.
I don’t know if the message got to you, hope it did. If not send me a message in my E-Mail box please…..Bob..
Sorry I haven’t been on the site lately. I’ve been in the hospital with covid 19 for about 6 days. Back in Sept. Still weak but I’m getting better. If your still interested in buying a Sho-Bud guitar, I have a nice one. It has no scratches or nicks on it at all. It does need a set of strings, (which I may put on it anyway ). I’ve been playing it lately with the computer with some older songs I know. It sounds great with the strings that’s on it. I just noticed your reply this afternoon, sorry about that but I have been under the weather lately. Be glad to send you some pictures of it, if your still interested….. Bob

Have you ever heard of a Marwin Pride Archtop Acoustic Guitar. I have one and can’t find any information on them.
I also have a Marwin guitar. It’s a Marwin No.1 archtop, circa 1935. Mine has a solid spruce top, solid birch sides and back. All the Marwin guitars were made by Harmony for Tonk Bro.’s of Chicago. They sold Marwin guitars and mandolins. Mine has a great sound, especially for blues or jazz. Hope this helps.
My sister has a Marwin Jewel that was past down from my Grandfather in Hawaii. If you have any information on those let me know as well.
Hello,
I bought a 2nd hand Yamaha hollowbody electric guitar. I was told that it was made between the years 1972-1975. The guitar has the serial number 24545. It is in a very good condition, everything works fine, including the tremolo. There are no scratches on the guitar and the hardware shines as brandnew. I paid US$ 900 for it. You can see some foto’s of the guitar on http://www.dutchcom.net/yamaha_guitar/index.htm
Can you tell me what this model is called, when it was made, what the price was when it was new and what the value is now.
Thank you very much.
Kind regards,
Armin Moller

: I own a 6 string acoustic flat top caled a Sho Bud "Spade Model" I bought it new in 1978. It is a beautiful guitar with great action. I also had a Club and a Diamond model which regreatably I sold to friends back in 1979. Anyone who is lucky enough to have one of these acoustic guitars knows what I am talking about when I say it is in a class by itself.
: I own a 6 string acoustic flat top caled a Sho Bud "Club Model" with hearts, diamonds, spades, and clubs up the fretboard. The label says it’s hand crafted in Japan under the direction of Music City Mfg. Any ideas about how old, worth, etc.? Thank you.

John,
In the late 70s’ SHOt and BUD added acoustics to their already money making steel guitar business. My guitar matches the description of yours, but it is the "Diamond Model". I hear there are one named after each card suite.
The goal was to compete for the Martin business
I would have a hard time parting with mine.
For collector purposes, one in great condition should be worth near 1 thousand dollars.
I have #1 made by Gene Martin there at Shot’s shop in Nashville. If you know of anyone that might be interested in it I would possibly consider selling it.

Looking to Buy SHOBUD Acoustic Guitars.
Charleston, Arkansas 479=965-6695
Hi, I have owned and enjoyed a 7 string resonator for several years, love the sound, and I recently decided to investigate more about its origins. From what research I’ve done, it appears that it’s a Sho-Bud with the deck-of-cards inlays on the fretboard, and the initials ‘SJ’ (Shot Jackson?) on the headstock.
It’s identical to the guitar in this Youtube video:
With the exception of the initials on the headstock being ‘SJ’ instead of ‘BJ’, no other identifying labels on the headstock or body anywhere, and no ‘Gretsch’ stamped on the bridge anchor. Happy to send pics to anyone if requested.
Any info greatly appreciated!
HI sorry for the redundant posting, I thought the first entry hadn’t worked so I tried again later the in the day.
Anyways to update this story, I have received some info from a very helpful gentleman named Andrew Roblin who worked in Shot Jackson’s workshop in the early 80’s. Rather than risk misquoting him, I’ll copy and paste his response here:
“Lou, this instrument was made at the Shot Jackson Guitar Center in the years–roughly 1981-1983–after Shot sold the “Sho-Bud” name and before the store closed. Like the Sho-Bud store, the Shot Jackson Guitar Center was at 416 Broad in Nashville. All that changed was the name on the sign.
In a room off the second-floor repair department, Shot had an inventory of parts, including Gretsch resonator bodies and distinctive tuners in a tent-shaped housing. Shot preferred seven-string instruments like this one.
These instruments were assembled, finished and set up by Bill Merritt, Gene wooten, AJ Nelson and Shot. I was a janitor at the store and also did occasional working stripping and sanding instruments.
Like you said, “SJ” stands for Shot Jackson.”
– So this was a later-years Shot Jackson-made guitar. I’m thrilled that it was made in original Nashville shop and was likely built by Shot Jackson himself, and has his own initials on the headstock. It’s a wonderful instrument.
Any other information still appreciated! I’d be interested to see how many of these might still be out there!
Regards
Lou
Hi I have owned what I believe is a Sho-Bud 7 string acoustic for years now, love the thing but never thought to look up its lineage until lately.
It’s got the playing-card neck, looks absolutely identical to one in the Youtube video with Charlie Reece:
however mine has the intials ‘SJ’ on the headstock instead of his which has the letters ‘BJ’ for Bill Johnson. Mine doesn’t have the ShoBud label on it nor Gretsch on the bridge anchor, just those letters ‘SJ’ which I might assume means Shot Jackson.
I would love to hear any information on this guitar, sounds like it might have an interesting history. It sure plays like it does! Happy to send pics if requested.
Thanks any info appreicated.
Regards
Lou

my wife bought for my birthday in 1981. She went to a local music shop and asked the owner (who was playing this guitar at the time), If he was going to buy any guitar in
his store, which one would he buy. His response, The Sho Bud Heart he was playing. She bought the guitar on the spot. She thouht the owner was going to cry… I will tell you this.. I will not part with it. To me, it sounds
better than any guitar I have heard.
I have a 6 string Sho-Bud Heart model. Im not sure which one is better? anybody have an idea?

The only thing i know about the guitar is that i would give my right arm for one. It has a terrific sound and is very well crafted. I have a friend who has one. The playability is good, and I would rather play it then my martin anyday. If either of you would like to sell, contact me or post a message.

I have the same guitar. I bought it new in 1979 for $200(I think) As I recall there was an entire line of these guitars , one model for each card suit…club spade heart diamond and also a "grand slam" model. I havent seen another Sho-Bud acoustic guitar since the day I bought mine.It has developed a very sweet tone and is worth far more to me now than what I paid.
I have the same guitar and I can not find any info on it. I got mine in a pawn shop in Fort Wayne, In. A friend of mine worked in the pawn shop there. Plays good.

These posting are kind of old, so I don’t know if any of you guys found out anything more about value. I have a Diamond Model. I traded another guitar for it back in 1979 or 1980. I have played it extensively ever since. Sounds great and has a fantastic action.
I have a Sho Bud Acoustic pre Gretch (diamond heart club spade or grand slam). This is number 75 of 100 they made before selling the patent to gretch. It is hand made right here in USA. Any ideas on how much its worth?
i looking for info on this item i will sell

stamped on the neck end is 1 8 5 6 and under that is stamped 1 0 3 2 w and under that is stamped pat apld for
anybody kno anything bout this

I, too, have one. You can tune it like a baritone uke (D-G-B-E) or like a tenor banjo. I use the uke tuning (1st 4 high strings of a 6 string guitar). Ptoblem with them is that the necks bow and you grow sharper up the next. Austin luthier Vinnie Mondello rebuilt the neck with a steel rod, wood braces, and fiberglass inside and it now plays like a jewel.
Let me know if you find anyone that can help you, I have one that sounds almost identical.
Thanks,
Kim

Steve: A friend of mine bought serial number 1141 when it was new approximately eight years ago. It has a JBL speaker. You may want to post this question on the Steel Guitar Forum to see if someone there might know more. Let me know if you want to sell this amp. I am looking for one.
Kind Regards, Ron White
I have an older Sho Bud amp I bought from my brother and would like to try and find out the age and approxiamte value for insurance purposes, or possibly to sell. Could you please direct me? The only identification # I can find is on the power amp itself a # 0601, and on the JBL Speaker – Signature Speaker – D130F, ser.# 66410 (?) I would greatly appreciate your advice.
Thanks

I just stumbled across one too (on the net).
It looks great. I want one…
I live in Europe, and I *think* it was made in Spain.
They also made some models out of artificial materials (glassfiber etc.).
Let me know if you find more interesting stuff on this.

Hi All
I bought one with an amp with the same serial number, that looked like a 3/4 version of a 1 pick up Les Paul Junior. I believe it was a student set up that they sold through music schools. When I was in Seattle Wa in the early ’70’s I seem to recall seeing a fair number of them in the pawn shops there, but don’t have a rerason why. Alkways thought they were made ther due to their quantity in the immediate area but could be wrong, have been in the past and likely will be again. Guess this just adds to the mystery. By the way I founf mine in 1068 at a coffee house.
