  1. 68 dano sitar
    roger

I am considering selling my 68 dano sitar-VG cond, orig hs case, strap- brown burst, good chrome, this is a gourd shape headstock, teardrop body- like the one ron wood used at the MSG show during jumpin jack flash- except w/o the humbucker mod. I probably paid way more for it than I should have, but it is an excellent collector guitar- virtually no pickguard scratches- any offers? (don’t insult me)-note this is not the vincent bell version-it has no drone strings.

Hi Doug: I just typed my name into Google to see what I have been up to. I guess its a lot more than I thought. I am a piper and bagpipe maker in Stoney Creek, Ontario, Canada so I guess we are both involved in selling musical instruments. I just thought I’d say hello.

  6. Single Pickup vs Double
    Merle Mortal

I just bought a dark brown vintage Silvertone Danelectro single pickup guitar from Gruhn’s in Nashville (a 1961 U-1 from the best I can figure out). This is my first Danelectro- I’ve played slide for about 15 years and love this guitar. In reading on-line about Danelectros I’ve heard two differ stories regarding the virtues of having either one or two pickups. I’ve read that the single pickup is located in the "sweet spot" and gets a full sound that the double pickups can’t… I’ve also read about the two pickups being wired in series which produces a great effect. Even though I own a single pickup Dano, I’m inclined to believe that a two pickup would have a better sound. Enlighten me.

I will include the tweed bag (thats not vintage) Just let me know, I’m asking $750 plus shipping. I live in Rochester and the guitar is about 45 minutes away at the rents house so I do not have pics but if your willing to wait a little bit I can get pictures!! I have a customer who has a Ć¢Ā€ĀœsalecomĆ¢Ā€Ā toggle switch out of a Dan Electro 6/12 double neck, which is broken. It is the switch that toggles between the two neck configurations.

      The information that is on the name plate is as follows;

      T80-R

      Salecom

      Sh ƃĀæu

      (Other side)

      on on

      2A 250vac

      5A 120vac

It is an on/on switch. Length of the bat (toggle) is 18mm (a Z1 large toggle?)

It is a 3 pole (9 solder terminals)

      ItĆ¢Ā€Ā™s a 15/32 dia. panel mounting.

Body of the switch is 16mm x 12mm x 10mm high (not including solder tips)
My customer would like an exact replacement but I cannot find a distributor of SALECOMĆ¢Ā€Ā™s product or a danelectro repair depot in Canada.

      any idea’s ?!?!?!?

  10. customizing new issue convertible
    Walt Starling

I want to add a magnetic pickup in the bridge position of my new issue danelectro convertible. A separate jack would run to my amp, and the original lipstick pickup would run to the PA, with a toggle switch between the two. A similar guitar is made by Carvin, an AE185. Any ideas. I’m considering a split-coil humbucker, but the tone needs to be retro-esque.
    Any ideas?

  15. lookin for a Nifty Fifty amp...
    Dan Aloi, upstate NY

i’ve read numerous user reviews and although these new amps have some issues, it seems the 50 is more reliable overall than the 30… I have mini pedals I can run my newer Convertible thru… and I’m sure it’s purely an aesthetic thing (that, and the TONE, and value for money, is why we love our Danos, right?) but I want one of these. I can get a new one, ostensibly with customer support and warranty, for $100 US, or take my chances on eBay for around $55-$60… any experiences you want to share? Advice? seen one in your local instrument store? thanks, all…

  21. please help
    kris

i was recently given a danelectro. i was thrilled, since i had plans to buy one anyway. i looked and tried to find out what the exact model was, but nothing matched it exactly. i haven’t even seen a picture of one with a similar logo, the logo on this one is in raised silver script, sort of like what one would see on a car. (also dual chrome lipstick tube pickups)from what i can gather, this one i have is quite old…rather beat up, but amazingly unwarped. and it plays. i’m going to take it to the music shop to see if they can find out exactly what it is, and have it refurbished. i have more info on it, except i’m not a guitar expert and whoever helps me may have to hear explanations in half technical/half completely dumbassed terms. i’d appreciate any light anyone can shed on what this may be…i have a few ideas, but nothing definite.

    1. Re: please help
      kris

now, several hours later, i’ve found out what my guitar is, through a (VERY) obscure reference. i’m shocked at how little info there is on this subject…but anyway, it is a model 4021 (often confused with the 3021 Standard Jimmy Page model) but due to all the research, now i have a few good links for info,(including the explanation of how the 3021 and 4021 are different) if anyone wants them. now, if only i could find an online price guide-there aren’t any i found pertaining to what i need. if anyone knows of one…

  24. Some one please tell me a good guitar, amp and or distortion pedal for punk
    Joe

My names is Joe and i’m 16 years old and i have been playing guitar for a while now and im looking for a good set up for punk
if someone happens to know a good set up please e mail me thankyou

    1. Re: Some one please tell me a good guitar, amp and or distortion pedal for punk
      matt

      Joe,

The critical piece of equipment required for the solid crunch punk sound is a humbucker. Visit seymourduncan.com. The site will emphasize a lot of difference in the pick-ups, but any of them will work (the "invader" pick-up is ideal – lower end, heavy crunch circa London, 1977).

As for the guitar, buy a cheap peavey predator…they take a good beating and are cheap.

Amp? Amps come in two flavors – solid state and tube. Tube amps are by far the superior tool. However, tube amps of course cost an arm and a leg. I would recommend one of the cheaper Crate amps – people have mixed experiences with them, but mine have all been good.

Distortion pedal – check out Guyatone’s "the fuzz." You can hear different sound effects on fuzzbox.com.

    Steve Russey, MA, MT-BC

    Dear Doug, et al.,

I found one… in Modesto, CA at a small shop. Pick guard covers more
space than I’d like, yet it does have the coke bottle head stock…
it’s black and white, and it has two pick-ups… you can’t
have it all, I guess. It sounds fabulous!!!!!!!!!
    Thanks for your emails!!!!!

    Take care, Steve
