I am looking for a good guitar and someone told me about this one(Guild D-15M)… The person who is selling it to me says it’s worth twice what he’s asking for it. Do you know anything about this specific model??? It is an older guitar in good condition. The seller says it’s a collectors and it isn’t made any more. I need to make a decision soon….any help is appreciated!

I saw your post on guitarsite.com not sure if you received an answer to your question on the Guild d15-m.
I bought one about 5 years ago, paid around $700.
Real happy with it. Curious as to what the person you mentioned was selling it for.
If you have questions or anything, feel free to send me an email…

The 1st bass I ever owned was a Jedson. I bought it in 79 for £40 and it was tatty then, looked a good 10 yrs old. It seems to be a copy of Gibson’s EB Bass (y’ know, like a bass version of the Angus Young guitar, is it called the SG?) I still own it. Essentially a basic copy guitar. I’ve never seen one like it mind…I’d be interested if anyone else had…

      Hello Chris

I don’t know if this helps, but anyway…..

A call from a danish guitarist.

I’ve just seen your stuff on the net, and though it is quite old now I find that I must react , and I hope this will reach you.
You are asking about facts upon your guitar named Jedson – apparently an elctric guitar. Mayby i can enlighten you a little bit.
Well I can tell you that I’m the happy owner of a Jedson accoustic Jumbo western model, which is now well over 30 years old and getting better and better. This guitar of mine has from time to time been a subject to admiration, and some have even tried to buy it from me, but I was of course not interested. I keep my guitars for many many years.
If this is the same brand, I can tell you that the manufacturer of your guitar is a certain Dallas Arbiter (I don’t know the guy – sorry) which, according to the tag, inside the guitar was an english guitarbuilder, and he eventually had them built in Japan, because mine is produced in Japan, but referred to as an english brand.
So your guitar is probably his work. If you find out anything about Arbiter, I would be very interested to know. I have also – like you – wondered who is the master of my guitar.

i got my dads jedson, which i assume he got in late 60’s early 70’s. cream telecaster shape with strat type headstock and one single coil pickup. strange bridge set up, and quite a chunky neck. has a fret at ‘0’, which needs replacing volume and tone control. any info would be greatly appreciated. i have now respyaed it with a union jack, which looks better than the original cream. apparently theres a site for jedson – if anyone finds it tell me please!!

I have a Jedson Les Paul copy which I bought secondhand in the UK in about 1974. It has a natural top and looks very much like Mick Ronson’s guitar he used throughout the Ziggy period (which is why I bought it in the first place). All the electrics and knobs are missing and I’d love to restore it as it was a lovely guitar to play. I can track down most bits that need to be replaced but I need the cream/white beading that goes around the top edge of the face of the guitar body. Anybody know where I might be able to get hold of something like this in the UK? An email to my address would be most appreciated.

Hi friend! I also have a Jedson Les Paul that I inherited from my father. I’m reply you because I don’t know anything about this guitar. When I speak about my guitar with somebody, nobody knows Jedson’s brand. I’m from portugal, I’ve been search about this guitar in portuguese forun’s but I found nothing. Do you have any idea about the comercial price of this guitar? Do you want to share pictures of your guitar with me and vice-versa?

        Thank you.

i got a jedson as a birthday present in 1974,second hand and it was old then. It’s a smaller strat like shape, red sunburst finish. On the back of the body it says" made in japan". Is there anybody, anywhere that knows a little about the history of these guitars.

            Jerry

I have had two Jedsons. A telecaster copy and a Les Paul. They were made in Japan, late 60s early 70s. I believe that Paul Weller started his career using a Jedson Les Paul copy.

I still have the LP which I bought second hand in 1975. I also have a Gibson LP Custom and a Standard which now put the Jedson into perspective. At the time and for the price a good quality copy.

hi-I was given a Jedson lapsteel guitar a couple of years ago. Research has shown it to be a copy of the Fender Champ (not the amp). It sounds and plays really well and is that aged blonde telecaster colour. I have since discovered that Jedsons were built in Japan for I believe, Dallas of London, of the Dallas-Arbiter fame.
These I understand were all copies of well known but expensive instruments. Hope this is of some help,Nick

: Hi Gary & Chris, I own a 1974 Jedson Les paul copy bought it brand new in the same yearfor £70. I have been trying to track information on Jedson. I understand that they were made in Japan. Mine is still going although refretted several times! My Neck pick up appears to act as microphone the feedback this creates is great for "Gary Moore" type solos. It is also the Loudest guitar i have played on, although its a bit crappy without ant effects or overdriven.
I play it through a 1976 Fender Twin Reverb and a Sound City
2 X 12 speaker Cab. It also plays well through Pandora Box 2 Effects and through a Park overdriven with a Jenson Cry Baby Wha.

I will never sell this guitar but any info appreciated as well. If you wish to sell let me know. What coulors are your guitars mine and the only other one I have seen is a light yellowy wood "Bookend" type style, with a rosewood fretboard with two Di marzio type double pickups, like mine.

          Regards Rick.

            RE: Hello everyone,

I have a Telecaster style Jedson guitar that I bought from ebay last year. I know for certain that Jedson is (or was) indeed a Japanese company, and that they made the telecaster-esque model for Woolworths in the 60s.

It was like a poor man’s Telecaster, really – but I own a Telecaster and have done for years, and I have to say that in my opinion, the Jedson looks and sounds better, and has much more character. Eevery bugger owns a Tele, but not a Jedson. I like the way the head stock dwarves the body, and that in actual fact – it sounds nowt like
a Tele! I have since the Tele shaped Bass version
floating about on ebay, and would love one.

Hi, I have a Telecaster shaped Jedson bass which I have owned from new since 1973 ,even playing a couple of gigs with it .This is a short scale bass which now almost looks like a toy to me .These were definitely Japanese made ,and Jedson also did a Gibson SG shaped bass which was longer scale , but still not full sized as far as I remember .I could be tempted to sell mine for the right offer .It is tobacco sunburst in good condition except that one of the two pickup selector switches has snapped off ( it has 2 pickups ).You can still select this pickupby using the tip of your plectrum to poke it on/off .Otherwise the bass plays well and keeps in tune remarkably , with generally good quality components .

What kind of guitar you want depends on what kind of music you play. Are you looking for an accoustic? An electic? What kind of music do you like? Rock, metal, classical, punk, blues, country, etc…? Without knowing these answers it will be hard to be specific. I’ll take a chance and say your looking for an electric. I would suggest thinking of a Fender stratacaster or telecaster. They are both good guitars that are capable of covering most anything you would want to play. Fender offers a good line of made in Mexico guitars in the price range you mentioned. The hardware on these guitars is of good quality and the pick-ups are fair to good. (you can always upgrade your pick-ups later if you want) The strat is a little better guitar for rock and blues while the telecaster is a little better for country. But I own both and used both for everything. There are even some folks who use a telecaster for shred. Like I said, these two guitars are very versital. Both guitars are offered with an assortment of pick-up combinations. I would suggest if you want to play rock or metal then go with a humbucker in the bridge on a strat. (thats not to say single coils would be bad, just my taste) Be sure and play the guitar before you buy it. At least long enough to get a feel of how it chords, how it feels in playing a lead pattern, how it sounds through an amp that will be like one you are gonna be playing through. Listen while your playing for fret buzzes. If there are any, ask if the shop your at can set the guitar up for you. If you have a friend that has been playing awhile ask them to go with you. If you order one from say Musician’s Friend or something like that, then call them first and ask them any guestions you have. If you decide on a certain kind of guitar and want to know more about it then go to Harmony Central.com and select "reviews", then guitar manufactuors, then the brand of your guitar, then the style. You’ll find alot of opinions and sometimes good advice. But rememeber, its still just someones opinion. You’ll find that while some love it, others hate it. So be careful to use this site as a tool to just get a feel for the guitar. Not a basis in fact. There are alot of other kinds of guitars out there and all of them have their own merit. I wont argue that there are better guitars for just about any kind of music. I have been playing for over thirty years, the last 25 in a rock band. I have played just about every name brand and alot of no-name guitars. I own an American Strat Plus, a made in Mexico telecaster, an old Gretsch, a Samick(korean guitar),a Japanese knock-off of a Gibson ES-335, and a Gibson Les Paul. They all have their worth to me. But I find that I use the Fenders the most. I might add this. A good guitar will not sound its best through a crappy amp while a crappy guitar will sound its best through a good amp. What this means is if your gonna get a decent guitar, then get a decent amp. A tube one if you can afford it.

I have the Columbus series 3 335 copy, i purchased it 2nd hand at a guitar show for £100. The guitar looks and plays fantastically, not the best guitar ive ever played but it just feels soo right.I have been looking for information on this brand but there seems to be very little history on them, what i can find seems to say most of these guitars seem to be poor quality but the 335 copies are highly regarded.whatever, it seems if the guitar feels right with the player who cares what others think, personally i love this guitar,it was made the year i was born so i intend to keep playing it til the day i die!!

I’ve got a Columbus 335 dated ’76. It has bound F holes, grover machine heads (apparently they also made them unbranded for the most Columbus’) and a fixed bridge (the original was moveable) which makes me think this one has been customised.
The pick ups I’d say are original due to the soldering and wire colours. The sound is absolutely amazing and I play it in favour of my Fender teleacoustic, the set up is ideal for jazz and blues players and it holds the tuning on two steps bends (ideal if you’re playing Albert King tunes).
I’ve played a few Gibson 355s when working on them or repairing them, I’d say the fretboard is more playable than the Columbus but the tone is probably on the same level (I’ve only tested it by ear).
Overall it’s a near perfect guitar

I have just acquired a black Columbus Les Paul with Epiphone pickups. It plays and sounds pretty good. This particular example was autographed by all the members of Paul Jones’ The Blues Band in 1995. I have come across Columbus guitars in the past but must admit I know almost nothing about them, but I am curious to find out more…..

I know nothing about the company, but I acquired a ‘335’ off a friend who used it on the stage in the West End of London in ‘Buddy’ in the 80’s. Best guess is that it’s a Mk 3 and a late 70’s build. Blood/carmine red with black scratch plate and ‘ivory’ pin stripe inset on the edges, I’m updating it with replacement humbuckers (seymour duncans);cos the guys in the occasional band love it’s tone – mellow jazz to mature deep rock – just great. It’s aged well, and sounds a treat. If anyone finds one in good nick – its a great buy.
            Cheers. Tim

hi! im john from portugal and i know a bit about columbus guitars…they were first made in korea with poor standards specifecly for a english importer. in the early seventies, the production moved to japan in the mid seventies and is when the guitars had a more or less good level of standard, then because it was more expensive the guit english importer mooved it to korea again,in the early eighties the factory closed, the british importer was called "FCN MUSIC" thats all i know…i used google on advanced search and typed "columbus guitars" i hope this helped…i also used "the ultimate guitar book"

Possibly. I read something on the net about a chap who believed the badge was sold once the parent company (Singer) in Matsumoko went out of business and this chap speculated that production might well have swiched to the cheaper (at the time) labour market in S. Korea and eventually China or India.Very possible, as even today major US badges are being made in Indonesia/China/India where labour costs keep the end product as a budget guitar such badges as Epiphone and Cort are made on the same factory lines. I believe that charvel had the desolation series made out there.

I have just aquired a series3 super strat. It has a original floyd rose bridge in fact everything looks original on it and in good shape. Does anyone know how much its worth and if change pickups on it will it raise or lower its worth.

        1. Columbus series 3
          Anonymous

I bought my columbus series 3 ( metallic anthracite Jackson superstrat lookalike) in 1988 in a small music shop near the top of South Ealing road, in London. It cost me 200 quid or so back then. The old, fiddly kahler tremelo has since been relpaced by a floyd rose and the frets have been filed. I always felt it was a trifle better than the other middle range guitars and I still play it today. There were never many of them around though..and they turned up in various shapes and formats. There was a sticker indicating Japanese origin and a pretty awful, tremelo system. The floyd rose fixed that. I use far more expensive models, and she is as good as them. I dont think these guitars have any resale value though..on the second hand circuit, an old dinky or charvel 4 is a far better proposition. Anyway, to sum up, it plays well enough to keep and use and when other players see it, its always a talking point

Hi Scott here from Crossroads Music in Jasper Texas and DeRidder La. We recently took a look at the Tradition Guitar line. My description of this brand??? IMPRESSIVE! Though we carry come cool brands of Guitars, I am comsidering making this guitar line our flagship guitar. As a matter of fact, I have ordered some more to add to our stock, one of which will be my personal guitar. I have not been asked or been paid to post this comment. The bottom line is, Tradition is a must have guitar. I truly believe in this product.

Hey I just bought the "Tradition Jerry Reid Signature Tele’" and I love it! I have only owned one professional guitar until I bought this one. A 67′ tele’ which I dearly love. I did however, need to modify it to meet my needs. This tradition model already comes with the humbucker in front and several more tasty modifications. I have played guitar in clubs with a three piece band for twenty years. This is a great all around guitar for all musical styles, it’s reasonably priced and made with beautiful craftsmanship. By the way; lifetime limited warranty. They’re not widely known in the U.S., but a Google search will yield a lot of dealers.

Tradition is a new kind of guitar company. They actually try to give the consumer more guitar for his (or her) money. They are not available through "Box Stores" or mail order houses. They have solid alder bodies, indian rosewood fretboards, North American rock maple necks, premium hardware, and killer pickups (stronger than Seymour pickups).

In short, they are an incredible bargain. These guys are trying to do right by their consumers. THIS IS NOT A CHEAP- SH_T GUITAR.

The sounds can be selected through plastic push buttons which are the only cheap-looking parts of this guitar ( the first Italian guitars were built by accordion makers… )
It can produce a wide range of sounds, from treble leads ( early stones records ) to powerfull rhythms ( Rickenbaker ). Its suitable for any 60ies-70ies styles.

: : Does anyone out there know anything about a Fenix Jazz guitar, very similar to a Yamaha AE1200. Yes, I’ve seen a few of these, imported into the UK by (I think Fletcher, Coppock & Newman – FCN Music), about 8 years ago. There were at least 2 if not 3 archtop versions, the biggest an L5 laminated top type with an ‘Attila Zoller'(Shadow) floating pickup, which sold in the UK (then) for I think about £495-00. A very nice jazz guitar which was reviewed I think in the British ‘Guitarist’ magazine – back issues of these are still available. The reviewer was most of all impressed by the sound, as I remember. Hope this is of help,

the site wont let me ad pictures!! but my fenix has what appears to be a maple body and maple neck, with an ebony fret board, real pearl inlays in the fretboard and headstock, one dual humbuker and 2 singles. it also has a schaller floyd rose, locking nut, 5 way toggle, and a seperate 2 way toggle, that doesnt really do much, just dampends the sound.

the guitar that i have is 10 times anything i have seen on the net!! if anyone has any answers please get back to me on [email protected]

        Hi,
I am a proud owner of a fenix jumbo acoustic. My dad bought it when he was in Switzerland in 1989 so it is the second generation which is using it. You can very well understand the durability of the wood which was used into making it. It sounds great and the neck is still straight! It’s a great guitar to play. I also own an Indonesian handcrafted Cort but trust me, the fenix sounds WAY better. It’s a rare guitar and anyone who owns one should be proud. Young-Chang does not manufacture these guitars anymore so it’s really tough to get your hands on one of these beauties, so if you haven’t heard of them I won’t be surprised, ’cause honestly not everyone knows about these rare instruments.

: I have two Galanti’s.One is a burst, solid body, with humbucker type pickups and the other is a solid red with single coils.Galanti has been out of business for a long time. They were never owned by the Galanti organ company.I contacted them and they told me that they don’t have anything to do with the guitar company. It’s very hard to find info on these guitars.I know.I’ve tried. All I can say to you is keep them. They’re great guitars. You might try hooking up with a guitar forum on the net.

I have a Galanti Hollowbody for sale. Technical in great condition. Everything works. Only there is a crack in one side of the body. So I sell the guitar for spare parts, like the neck, pickups, etcetera. Anybody interested?

This is amazing. I’ve had a Galanti Sunburst for about 25 years. It’s what I learned to play on. It belonged to my Step Dad’s Dad. It was bought at Pizzi’s Music in Chicago. The address on the label has "Chicago 22" instead of a zip code, so this guitar was bought, at least before 1964 or 1965. It is a rare and nice looking instrument but I didn’t think it was this rare. I\m grateful that you guys have taken the time to post this info. Thanks a lot.

Does anyone know how to bypass the ciruit I’ve read about.
Apparently removing it really opens up the pickups.
I have the three pickup model and it sounds very muddy.

I had one just like it many, many years ago.
That’s why I bought this, but I do remember it sounding brighter.

            Thanks

I saw that one! I couldn’t believe it sold for that much. It’s pretty cool seeing that, cause now I have an idea of what my green one is worth. I probably won’t sell it though. That first post I made was years ago. I can’t believe it’s still up….I don’t even play my Galanti anymore. It just sits near mint in its case. I may sell the parts one I have……

I have three Galantis. One is Sunburst with 2 pickups and a natural colored headstock. It works and plays beautifully. The second is a Red one with a matching headstock,
two pickups and beautiful pearloid tuning peg buttons. This model is called the "Starfire." The neck on this one, however, is cracked and I have used parts from this one on
my other 2 Galantis for restoration purposes. The best one is my Greenburst, 3 pickup Galanti "Grandprix"! The tremolo tailpiece was completely ripped out of the body, but
thankfully, no harm was done to the body of the guitar, and I changed out the tremolo piece from the red one with the cracked neck. The green one is may favorite, appearance
wise, and it seems to play and sound the nicest. Due to the body shape and sound and appearance of these guitars, I must say that they are among my favorite guitars, next to
the Fender Jazzmaster. The Galanti company mainly manufactured Accordians, but, in the sixties, as rock music gained popularity, Galanti started manufacturing guitars. I am
not sure how long this lasted, and if anyone knows, I’d love it if they would e-mail me and let me know. It is next to impossible to find out any information on these cool guitars.
If I ever see them, (I have only seen about 8 of them in my entire life!), usually there is a piece broken off of them, whatever the piece is. I doubt that Galanti still makes guitars,
and I have not seen anything remotely close to a "NEW" Galanti guitar. Actually, I am not even sure the company is in business. Anyway, if anyone knows……

I’ve owned a sunburst Galanti Hollowbody for almost 22 years now. I can’t pretend to know anything about guitars, but I would love to get more information on my guitar. I can post photos if you are interested.

I CAN, however, pass on some info about Galanti and the research I did. Galanti was an Italian company that made accordians. During the sixties, the company jumped on the rock ‘n’ roll bandwagon and designed guitars for several years eventually changing to designing organs. I can’t seem to locate any manufacturers that know anything about them though.

I would love to know more about the guitar. Please help!

I own one that I purchased in Paris, France, in 1963. A friend purchased the same model, but a bass guitar. They were both identical in color. I paid $185 cash for the guitar at an international music store in Paris, France. I had origionally intended on buying a Fender, but the quality of this guitar far surpassed the Fender. My guitar is Italian made.

Yes I too have a Galanti. Its a green sunburst arch top with lots of chrome. I’ve never seen or heard of another one like this. I have seen a solid body design a few times. It’s very cool and plays well.

I know that Galanti was an italian company from the 60s… my one was nearly destroied. What I like is the real solid body of perfect wood, I took all the paint off and let it naturally. The sound is particulary rock.
