  1. Takeharu Electric guitar
    Roy Weymouth

Hi there, I was hoping to get some info from this database concerning my electric takeharu guitar but it seems that all you folk that own Takeharu’s all want the same.
I bought the guitar about 25-30 years ago in Norwich. My guitar is solid bodied with two humbucker pick-ups and the Takeharu name in mother of pearl on the head stock.
I love my guitar but would really like to know something about it. Roy.

I have a lute that is a d’Orso, it needs some repair work and I have seen a d’Orso mandolin on e-bay. They are circa 1900-1925, and both are stamped on the top with d’Orso, I have pics of both. [email protected]
: : Does any one now a guitar called d Orso?
: : It’s an old smal body accoustic guitar.
    : : It’s at least 70 years old probably a 100

  5. Wolverine Guitar Early 1900's era Parlour guitar
    Mike Perkins

My mother just aquired a guitar from my Grandmothers estate, It was her mothers.
There is a decal with wolverine on the headstock, the origin is probably Mi. as all my relatives are from that area, Ann Arbor & Detriot. It appears to be parlour size & constructed with sitka spruce top, brazilian rosewood back & sides, Ebony neck w classical style tuning pegs.
(I have nylons on it ) It also has fancy inlays instead of dots, so I suspect it’s worth a lot more than the $60.00 she bouught it for. Anyone have any research database that I can go to to try & find out more about it? Gibson connection ? etc.
    Thanks Mperkins37

        dan coles

Hello, i may not have alot of information for you but as for your el degas with the doves, you are right, it is called a Gibby Dove, i recently sold one that i had for $375 dollars Canadian to a person in Calgary Alberta. Case included.About 1970 would be an approximate year and as for the first initials, for example Gb#301 stands for Gibson Model Gibby Dove, i now have another one MT-4, witch stands for Martin number 4 but still made by El degas. 20 years ago they were $500 to buy, depending on condition, but now adays like everything, play it, use it don’t abuse it and it should always fetch $300-$400 dollars. Who knows in another 10 years maybe $1,000..But if you play it, thats where you would really enjoy the guitar, their sound is fantastic, trust me i know. Sometime when you have a chance advertise to see how many people collect them…Buying them is better than stocks…Good luck Dan

I was hoping you can help me . My Dad passed away and l have a guitar with a white dove on front of it and on top it says el Degas he bought it in the 60’s . Is there any site l can go to and find out more about this guitar.

      Thanks

Hello Rhonda, first of all sorry to hear about your Dad, it’s nice that he left yo a little something. I do know a bit about these type of guitars as i have had a few and still do. The bids on the front are doves and the style is called a gibby dove, and probably in the model number on the sticker inside the guitar it starts of with a GB….. wich stand for Gibby dove or after the Gibson make. I myself have had one like that and now i have a el degas Mt-4 wich stands for Martin, but still a el degas guitar. If you play it you will notice they are a great sounding guitar, from about 1970, wich did have a cost of about $500 canadian, the amount hasn’t gone up but depending on condition. They really have to be played to be appreciated. I see them for sale for around $399to $400 dollars, but with they way Guitars prices are going, i would say in the next 10 years or so they should fetch around $1,000. That is good , better than stocks…Depending on condition. I’m not sure other than the computer how to look up prices but there is people out there that only collect el degas guitars. Good luck with everything…Dan

  7. El Degas F209 12 String
    Steve

oops had to correct email… Been playing for almost 40 years now with a recent 12 year hiatus. Decided to pick up guitar again and, damn do I miss playing. Anyway stashed in the garage with all my guitars amps etc was my old El Degas F209 12 String. It needed a new bridge and a tuning key. Had a craftsman in Pueblo CO fix er up and she sounds great. More than great actually. I had never really given much thought to either the name or how good this guitar really sounds. I originally traded a Fender maple guitar neck for the 12 string in 72. My friend had only owned the guitar for a couple months when the trade was made and I’ve had it ever since. As I said really hadn’t paid any attention to the name of the guitar over the years and now with the internet i checked it out. Appears that El Degas is a respected name. Anybody else have this guitar? Can anyone tell me more about this particular (F209 12 string) model or about El Degas in general? Thanks Steve

    1. Re: D'Agastino Guitar
      jeff

I got my D’agastino benchmark series in 1978. my understanding was that they were hand crafted either in Italy or that the family came from a family of Italian instrument makers. I know that they made more acoustic and classical guitars than they did electrics. The benchmark has one peice neck through body 24 fret ebony fretboard with 2 double coil d’marzio humbucker pick-ups, inlaid mother of pearl on the headstock and on the body below the bridge– all came stock. Both pick-ups have pot switches on the guitar to switch from single to double coil in any position. I’ve only seen about 2 or three others in my life– and the only colors I’ve seen it in are red stain and wood-grain. I’ve had mine for 30 years and the action is still great. The only real disadvantage is that it ways about 11 pounds– other than that it’s a fast neck with a wide range of thick and bitting tones. I love it when it gets some hot tubes on a good tube amp. It gets its own lightning-like distortion tone even when you are not using a distortion box. It’s one bad Ax

I’ve also got one, best tone ever. Action ranges from 0.9mm to 1.2mm. Best playing instrument I’ve ever palyed. Better than an original vintage Martin D-45. Mint condition, Worth in excess of 5 grand I reckon.

I have owned one too for 30 years – without doubt the best action and easy to play acoustic – paid from memory $125 with case – don’t know how much its worth but would never sell it!

: hi, have a w-150, bought new in 1980 for $105aust ($115 retail). Cant tell you much about the company except that they probably began with violins and am pretty sure are the same mob responsible for the well known suzuki violin teaching method. The W-150 is a Martin copy, have had several Martin owners quite jealous of its sound. Difficult to say what it could sell for but if it is like mine and stays in tune months on end after 27 years would suggest you would have difficulty replacing the guitar with a new one of similar quality today under $2000! My advice, hang onto it! (can be improved by replacing adjustable bridge with solid bridge resting in bottom of bridge slot)

Had mine 20 years or more not sure where I got it from. Anyone know how to replace and adjust the bridge correctly . Interested if anyone using a bone saddle and nut. What radius should I use. Using 11-52 light strings at the moment. Great guitar- beats all others I have ever tried. Just bought a Seymour Duncan SA- pick up. When were they first manufactured. Mine made in Japan. No serial number.

  15. Classical 4/4 Aria guitar MR 150
    jerry Bentley

I bought this guitar 15 years ago from a music store whose company had gone bankrupt. According to him the guitar was a prototype made for Herb Ellis. It has a solid spruce top and solid Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. The tuners are plated with a yellow metal which I expect is gold, although I cannot say for sure. It was made in Nagoya, Japan before Arai transferred the manufacture of Aria guitars to Spain.

I have hardly played it and other than a couple of very small scratches, it is like it came out of the factory. A coupIe of years ago, I took it to a guitar maker for restringing and he told me the guitar had a richer sound than most of the Remirez’s, Hausers, etc. that he had heard.

I am interested in getting a "ballpark" value on it for insurance purposes. (Wilma took my roof off and I want to get it insured.)

I live in the South Florida Area and would like to find an appraiser who would give me a written estimate. Unfortunately I have spent a couple of hours on the internet and have been unable to find a local appraiser.

I have read several opinions that the "by mail" appraisals are not very accurate. Anybody know of an appraiser in South Florida?

    Thanks!

      Hi Jerry,
I have an Aria MR-100 and I like i very much. Please let me know what you want for your AR-150. I bought my guitar in the early 1976 also from a store that was going out of business. At that time I paid for it $250.00. For me it was more then I should spend but I never regretted buying it
Please let me know what you would let me have yours.
      Best regards,
      Dan.

It has the old "soap bar"pick-ups and a very different tone switching configuration. Nothing like the standard LP, 2-vol./2-tone set up. Still sounds great and doesn’t loose tone when you turn down the volume of the guitar.Bottom end rumbles! As far as value, I have no idea! I do know , I wouldn’t consider selling it!

    1. Re: KAPA Guitars
      ben smythe

i just bought the same Kapa 12 string, but mine is the maroon color…
I just set it up and it works great, minus the same toggle switch issue. I would not hesitate removing the switches and replacing them… as long as they are wired the same way the old ones were, there shouldn’t be a problem. I belive these guitars are the only 12 strings ever made that have a tremelo system, which makes them very special…. can you belive that these keep tune perfectly, even after wailing on the tremelo bar? AWESOME!

Hey all! Can anyone tel me where I can get a really detailed history of KAPA axes, including looking how and where to look up the date of the guitar from the serial number on the backplate of the neck? Did KAPA have a decent numbering system, or was their numbering system off the wall? I have been Google-ing for a while, but I can’t find anything but a quick overview of the company and it’s founder online. I can also use some tips on replaceing the toggle switches…I just picked up a metalic blue Continental 12 string with a whammy bar and the only thing that really needs to be done is to have the 2 toggle switches replaced. I am a bit hesitant to do the repair myself as the finish is already crackeling, and I do not want to take a chunk out when I take the face plate off! BTW, when I have the face plate off, are there any other sugggestions of simple yet essential tune up requirements to brighten up the sound a bit? I never heard of KAPA before I saw the axe (as of yet still unnamed), yet I just fell in love with it when I saw it. Any and all info would be MORE than appreciated!!! Thanks much and have a rocking, jazzy Spring 🙂 Pax… Tuneman

        Gary Chavis

I am interested in buying it at a fair price. I owned one from 72-78. I orginally bought one thru the Army Exchange while stationed in Panama C.Z. direct from Gibson. it was $400.00 and the case was $100.00. I later sold in in Korea in 78 for $600.00 with the case. But in Korea they always pay more for things made in other countrys, there only allowed to buy things made in Korea. Let me know how much you want and if it’s in as good of condition as you say and resonably priced I’ll buy it. [email protected] my name is Gary. I don’t think they are very populiar because the pick up’s are not Humbucking and don’t have the bite or same sound, they are black plastic and rounded at the top and bottom if it’s like mine was,the wood on the back was scolped out so it didn’t press against your ribs so hard. It has a black plastic plate over the volume and tone knobs and a built in phaser switch there also. I think you paid a fair price for it back then. I don’t know what it’s worth today but when you decide to sell it let me know what your asking. My guess it it’s worth at least $ 1,000.00 sense it old and in good shape and case included. I don’t think there much demand for that model because of the pick up’s and looks with that big black plastic plate on the front.

        Gary Chavis

I am interest in buying one in good condition and a case if possible. I used to have one and I know why people aren’t interested. The pick up’s don’t bite like the hummbuckings do, they don’t have the rock guitar sond like other Les Paul’s and the big black plastic guard over the volume and tone controls and phase switch make the guitar look kinda ugly. I would like one because I used to have one it was my first Gibson. I think they are worth less than a thousand maybe much less. I think $ 600.00 the most they have ever sold for. I sold mine for about that much back in 78 but it was Korea and they pay more for things made in other country’s, they don’t allow imports.

I’ve got a Kasuga F-211 right here! Brilliant guitar but I believe mine is customised. The bridge is ajustable like on electric guitars. It has got some war wounds from all the Irish pubs it used to visit and is played by a lot of todays Irish celeberties.
If anyone has some info about kasuga guitars or this model in particular, please email me!!!!

I own a Kasuga les paul ,i beliwve it to be of 1970 build (possibly earlier)it is the finest les paul copy i have played.
in fact i have searched for obout 12 years to find a gibson les paul of the same vintage but of the many i have tried i havent found one to equal my kasuga.
specs are : mahogany body & neck, rosewood figured catved top & headstock, rosewood fingerboard w/block inlays,
as i bought this guitar from an old muso for $50.00 aus, it needed some love,
pickups were replaced with a dimarzio super 3 (bridge)&
an ibanez v2 super 7 (neck)a brass nut & schaller tuners completed the restore and my kasuga is as tonaly & playably awsome today as the hundreds of gigs it has done since i found her in 1997. none of my muso mates (a few who swear by gibson les pauls )can believe the playability & tonal/build quality of this guitar, maybe i found a gem ! as i have not been able to find any info on kasuga archtop solids, i would love to find a gallery and or a link. Cheers ! Wayne , West Australia.

I own a cherrywood Kasuga "gibson 335 copy" I purchased it in New Zealand in 1977 I think. The guitar is beautifully made although the neck is narrower than a Gibson 345 I owned. Yje sound was not that great and it lacked sustain.
I have since had gibson humbuckers, a varitone switch and Grover heads fitted to it.
I’m much happier but have to say I prefer my Es345 !966 vintage.
      regards Richard

I looked Kasuga up and I believe they still are making guitars but only in Japan. I saw ads when I was their in 1982. Here is an article that I got from the web.
      http://www.vintageguitar.com/brands/details.asp?ID=94

In May of ’72, a portentous advertisement appeared in The Music Trades. In an ad stretching across the top of a two-page spread, drawn cartoon-fashion with a jet soaring from Japan to the United States, the headline read, “Kasuga Guitars Come To America.” Kasuga was a guitarmaker established in Nagoya, Japan, in the late ’60s. In ’67, Tommy Moore, the successful musical instrument merchandiser from Ft. Worth, Texas, and one of the founders of Hondo, visited Japan in order to strike up a guitarmaking deal. With only a voucher of credit in his pocket and no contacts, Moore hooked up with a Mr. Kaku, who steered him to Tokai Gakki. Tokai had become very successful in Japan making and marketing the Pianaca, a keyboard harmonica used in Japanese schools. On December 15, 1970, Moore and Tokai Gakki entered a joint venture called Tokai USA Inc., and Tokai began making private label and OEM guitars.

I own a Kasuga Acoustic 6 string guitar. I also can’t find any real information about Kasuga International either, but I can tell you about my guitar.

I purchased my Kasuga guitar brand new in 1982. I believe it was made in the late 70’s, and had been sitting around in this music dealer’s house/shop for a few+ years. Model HC – 500. I believe it is a Martin D-50 copy. It is a very well crafted guitar. The tone is exeptional. Rosewood fretboard, solid spruce top, 2 piece back. Not sure if the back & sides are solid, but believe them to be Brazilian Rosewood. The only alterations I’ve made is, 1 – brass nut, 2 – brass saddle.

A friend of mine, who owns a Martin, prefers the tone of my guitar over his, and I agree with him. I use light gage strings.

Purchased in Prescott Onatrio Canada for $717.00 (CND $’s) (720 plus taxes).

I’ve tried many guitars since I purchased my Kasuga, and I still love the action, sound, and feel of my guitar best. My Kasuga is a beautiful guitar. Best money I ever spent.

I reciently obtained an acoustic Kasuga on ebay. Model KF-420 1972 . It is a grand concert style. At first I thought I had gotten a lemon. The tuning Key on the G string was broken and caused a terrible rattle. I bought new tuning keys. The others were cheap and may have not been original. After putting on martin folk silk and steel strings and the new tuner machines I found that I had a great guitar. It rings with the spruce top and rosewood back. Just what I was hoping for when I bought it. great deal on a great guitar. Can’t touch at ten times the price.

I am writing because I recently acquired a kasuga gakki KF-420, and it’s missing one bushing, gear and screw for the machine head, so I was wondering what exactly did you buy and where? I am looking to replace all of them, but have no idea how to figure out which ones would work/fit.

      Adam

i was wondering if my decca was worth anyhting at all or if it was just another sad excuse for a guitar…it has no pick ups of any sorta at all, a plastic pickguard with a generic drawing of flowers on it(one reason why i think its junk)the back looks much like a cheap stained wood and is pretty dark colored. it was made in japan as all the other deccas are….imported here by decca (says the sticker in the guitar) and distributed by them as well obviously. it has a serial number dm1-207 i searched google and nothing AT ALL come up…which is another reason why i think its junk.it has a ‘mexican’ design around the center hole (no f holes)….as for its history my grandmothers boyfriend gave it to her and i was told he was pretyy serious and into his music…so i thought for a second it might be worth something. if youd like a picture email me(sadly the trapeze bridge is totaly in ruins split down the middle almost all the way through).

well thnx =-) just wanna know if it might be worth nething by the way it hasa pretty plain colored front pretty much looks is if it were a shiny unstained wood.

I have an ANEA Powerformer series Bass guitar that is copy of a Daion MarkXX bass. I have tried to do some research but always come up empty handed. There is no serial #. I have a Superformer Series Guitar that I owned it for 20+ years.
Double cutaway body(Strat-style, but the body is flared out a bit)with a Humbucker(bridge position) and 2 single coil pickups(mid and neck position.)
It also has a Kahler tremolo and locking nut.
        Neck is maple.
Pickup selectors switches are individual on-off toggles, except the humbucker. It seemed to be setup humbucker-off-single coil.
The pickups need to be replaced, but i cannot find anyone who has heard of this guitar or the setup for the humbucker that I mentioned.

I just finished restoring an Anea bass that I got off of E-bay. I got the pickups from a company called Stewart-MacDonald for pretty resonable, had to get the screws separatly because it comes with bass pickup screws, and even know it is a bass it needed humbucker screws for the pickups. Sounds great, well made guitar, just no paper trail where it came from.

: : : I have an ANEA Powerformer series Bass guitar that is copy of a Daion MarkXX bass. I have tried to do some research but always come up empty handed. There is no serial #. There was and anea electric guitar forsale on ebay a few months ago and I noticed that it was a copy of Daions electric. I feel that somehow Anea and Daion are connected. My anea is a bolt on neck and the Daions are neck-thruogh. Daoin was a company in texas that was owned by a japanese guitar builder and they made very quality instruments in the early 80s but soon went bankrupt. That’s about all I know.
            : : Hi:
: : Like you I have this solid body Bass that is a bolt on neck sound and plays great but cannot find out anything about it. I was told once that is might be german made, but have not been able to get anything I could bank on.

I just bought an Anea (or Avea?) Powerformer Series bolt on solid body. No serial number or country of origin. Beautifully made with maple & walnut body & US Kahler. Paid $80 at GC in Rochester NY. I think it’s a steal. Can’t find anything about it either.

            1. I named the Anea guitar after my daughter with the same name. They were designed here in Texas and built in Japan and Korea. I distributed the Daions and some of the designs were very similar. The Anea recording acoustic and the Daion 78 are the same guitar. Daion went out of business in the middle 80’s and I put the Daion name on the Aneas for 3 more years. Hope this helps some of you.

              1. I have an Anea Golias Series Telecaster
                Bomac06

I am fascinated to know the history of this guitar. I know who T. Golias is, but not well enough to ask him about the origins of this guitar. I found it had largely unbranded Gotoh tuners because I found the G emblem on the bottom. The pickups look like alnico’s. I’m guessing the bridge was Gotoh as well. It looks very similar to the Gotoh bridge, but I have not found any markings.

I’ve have this Telecaster shaped solid body electric guitar and want to identify the maker and date but can’t find anything on it. It has a maple neck with mechanically adjustable nut, enclosed machine heads, two pickups, and Kahler tremelo. Came in sturdy Unitech Case. Anyone out there know something about this fine playing guitar or can steer me in the right direction?

      Thanks,

      JD

      1. Anea bass guitar
        lance

I have an Anea bass guitar that I inherited from my late father, who was living in Dallas, TX when he bought this instrument.
It’s a 4 string P/J bass that was made to look like a neck-through, but is a bolt on. It’s a nice looking instrument, and I’d love to learn more about the history of this bass.

      2. My friend Al picked up the same guitar you are talking about when I lived in Winter Park, FL in like 2009. From what I understand, or remember him telling me. the Anea you have is a japanese guitar, and if my memory serves me right the company used to be called Daion or is now called Daion. I’m not 100% sure on that, I’m going to try and find a picture of it, do you have any of yours?

      3. Anea Powerformer bass
        Sam

I have an Anea Powerformer bass. There is a lot of info about Daion guitars online. Daion sites say Anea bought out Daion, and bought their stock of parts. Only problem I see in this theory is that Daions were neck through, and Aneas are bolt on necks. I would think that if Anea bought Daion, they would also be neck through. Also, the earliest Daion I’ve seen was 1979. My Anea was bought new in 1975.

      4. I am settling an estate and one of the guitars is an anea. powerformer series.

Did you ever find any more info about it?
still…three years later, there is not any info on net about them.
        Help would be appreciated:)
        Thank you,
        J

Ooooohhh!!! Just this morning I was thinking about the first guitar I ever owned. It was a lovely Palmer classical that my older sister bought me in 1989 for my twelfth birthday (she was much older and like a mother to me). She wanted me to be the female Eddie Van Halen; I wanted to be Geddy Lee. I immediately relieved the guitar of its top two strings and busied myself with the 2112 Overture. Once I got an actual bass I began to use the Palmer as a guitar, and man was I blown away at the sweet tones I could get. Mind you, it had been thrown against the wall by someone hellbent on revenge (resulting in a lovely gash down the neck), dropped down a flight of stairs sans case, and doused in countless beers. Still, it retained that honey-sweet sound and honey-glazed finish. Though many other instruments came and went in the years that followed, I managed to hang onto that thing. I left it with my ex five years ago (temporarily), and after reading all your comments I think I’m gonna have to go back and get my first baby!

I bought a 12-strings acoustic guitar and it sounds awesome. I can’t find any information about this guitars but they are cheap (about 150 bucks) and they’re very useful instruments. If any one can tell me a little more about this guitars please contact me.

I have a palmer classical, bought new in florida 25 years ago… the 80’s! I found the following address but haven’t checked it out,

          Palmer Guitar Co.

          Private Company, Headquarters Location
6850 SW 81st Ter., Miami FL 33143-7712, United States
          (305) 594-3909,
          Line of Business: Musical Instruments

The Palmer classical guitar I have has been played beside up to 6 other classical guitars in the same room at one time, ranging from $200 ~ $2000 dollars, and it rivalled them all, in the opioion of all who heard (i think mine was 150 back in 80). It was cheap to purchase, but sounds sooooooo so gooood.

yeah, I have a Palmer from I think the 90’s, and it’s really smooth. the bridge needs some work, there’s a weird buzzing in the body when the D is played over the body, don’t know what that’s all about. and one of the tuning machines isn’t……great….but it sounds pretty good, and plays like a dream. I’d definitely buy another.
