I purchased and old Destroyer II, (made in Japan in the 80’s) it appears to of had some possible modifications and is missing the neck pick up. I am intersted in restoring it but am having difficulty finding info on it. it is red, It has active wiring with a pre amp requiring a battery, not sure if this was standard or somebody’s mods. any help with info or good web sites, resources would be greatly appreciated.

      Roger Crowther

: The first character of the serial number is the month (A=Jan, B=Feb, etc) and the 2nd and 3rd character is the year, so "D790012" would be the 12th guitar made in April 1979, for example.

: Anyone know how I can tell the age of my Studio model from the serial number?

        1. Re: Ibanez Studio
          Joaquín

If your Ibanez serial number is D804286 then:
          D = April (A is January, B is February…)
          80 = 1980
4286 = Your guitar was the number 4286 built in that month.

          Have a nice day.

  6. can anyone tell me.....
    Phil B.

I am looking for a certain Ibanez electric, I’m not sure of the model (I believe it was a Roadstar, but I’m not sure) but a friend of mine had one in the mid to late 80’s. He does not remember the info. either. Anyway, it had a classic body style, Floyd Rose trem, 1 volume and 1 tone knob which I believe was a push/pull coil splitter for the bridge humbucker, neck and middle single coils, but it was the paint that stood out the most and I’ve never seen another color like that since. It was a very dark blue, almost black with very subtle light blue fade outlining the body. It was the most incredible finish I think I have ever seen. Does anyone know what model this is? Any help would be appreciated.

        Hey Tina
Mine is a solid top acoustic that was made completely out of mahogony except for the head stock which is a cheesy laminate looking wood. The MH probably stands for Mahogany. This is a great guuitar that I have had since 1981 I believe….its been so long I forgot where I bought it but I think I paid 160.00 bucks for it back then. It has been worth every dime since I have gotten hours and hours of playing out of it. I also have a Gibson j100 but I play my Ibanez more than the Gibson.

Tina, The V stands for Vintage, James was right that MH stands for Mahogany. The top was solid mahogany but the sides and back were laminate mahogany. The neck was Nato.

I don’t think that pick ups are standard.
I have a V300 also, my dad gave it to me and its a beautiful sounding guitar.
Better than any I’ve ever played. I also think its equal to a Maton.
I’ve no idea about value or anything, I can’t find any information on it.

        Loic

I agree with all the comments I read here. I already own a Yamaha apx5a acoustic electric thinline guitar which sounds great plugged in but wanted a full bodied dreadnough guitar to play lound chords when unplugged.
With the V300 I can get the boom-chick sound I wanted with load bass notes and crisp chords.
I bought it last year second hand for 220 Euros (I live in France). I think it’s an excellent guitar for the price. I don’t think you would get a new guitar for the same price and quality.

    6. Re: Ibanez V300
      goldwaz

I bought a black V-300 at a yardsale in Marin, CA in 1996 for $100, no case. The woman wanted $150, but I talked her down. I already had a nice K.Yairi guitar that I paid roughly $800 for, and I wanted a guitar I could bang around. I’m not a great guitar expert or anything, but the Ibanez just played and sounded great, so that was became my "knockaround" guitar, although it sounded so good I always was very careful with it!

Anyway, I think anyone who has one of these guitars has just lucked out, that’s all there is to it. Hang on to it, if you have one!

      Don Medows

      Hi Jane,
Hold on to this guitar!! It is amazing! My ex-wife bought one for me in 1983 for my birthday. Amazingly, I have never had a problem with buzzing or anything at all. I own a Taylor 855 12 string and a Taylor 912 ce and I swear to God it has better action and plays better than both. I think she paid 225.00 new in ’83. It’s the one good thing that I have been able to hold on to for so many years. You could never replace it for the money it would sell for. You lucked out on this one, as did I because my exwife just picked it out randomly. Lucky You, Don

    8. Re: Ibanez V300
      Pancho

I picked up an ’83 V300 for $100 in 1993. It has a natural finish and one little ding on the soundboard. Had fret buzz at the third fret so I loosened the truss rod about a 1/4 turn and it’s sounded phenomenal ever since. No buzz. Only crisp and clear and beautifully tonal and resonant. Far better than any Chinese, Indonesian or Korean dreadnought and probably comparable to an $800-$1200 Martin or Gibson. As far as quality of construction, I’ve always found Japanese guitars to be as good or better than those made in the US. The V300 is no exception. As for resale value, they’re still going for about $100. That’s good and bad. Depends on whether you’re a seller or a buyer. Personally, I’m snatching up every one I can get my hands on. So far I have one. Too bad they’re so rare. Anyway, money value is of no importance. It’s a high-quality, great sounding guitar. Just play and enjoy. Consider yourself lucky to have found such an instrument at such a low price.

      2. Re: Ibanez V300
        jason

this guitar is very nice. had mine since about 1981. very fine grain on the spruce top. Mine is a sunburst fnish. Mahogany back and sides. 2 pc back. sealed heads, trussrod. not worth 5 bucks on ebay but would cost 1500 in a martin w the same features probably without a gloss finish. I’ve banged it around, fingerpicked it, bluegrassed it, changed string gauges etc, willie nelson played and signed it one time.

I’m posting about it because i am getting ready to buy a new guitar and am looking to upgrade. so how do i upgrade in a Martin – well i need to go with rosewood back and sides and thats at least a D16, not one of the dx models. Plus 200 for a gloss. So I’m at about $1600 to $2000 to repalce what I’ve got with a Martin logo… what is this v300 worth?????? well 50 bucks on ebay.

bought a V300 S for 80 euros, it sounds great, i love it. I had a 600 euro-takamine and i sold it directly after i snatched this ibanez. Does anybody know what this "S" means? Gruss stephan

      4. Re: Ibanez V300
        Pancho

Scratch that. One just sold on eBay for $300. I guess we praised it a little too much and people eventually caught on. After thinking it further and taking into account that it has a solid spruce top and solid mahogany back and sides, and then taking into account it’s construction quality and sound, it’s probably equivalent to a $1900 Martin D-18.

    9. Re: Ibanez V300
      tom

The Ibanez V300 was a midrange value guitar from Japan manufactured in the 80’s. It has rosewood back, sides and fret board and a spruce top. It retailed for roughly 600 dollars. It’s an excellent instrument that gets better with age and is amazing resilient. Mine has 2 repaired holes, several gouges and several warps and chips, but sounds as good as brand new guitars. They often need setup work, take it to a luthier and have him adjust the action.

That is correct some do need a little work to get the great sound. Mine was good from the start and when I wore out the frets the first time I had the whole set up redone, action lowered and new frets. I could not believe the difference it made. I have heard people on here comparing it to other guitars such as Martin etc. and I would have to agree. I have a Gibson J100 and I think my Ibanez is actually better but I need to have my Gibson set up properly so its not a fair comparision. I’ve had mine for 25 years and I’ll never part with it.

      2. Ibanez V300 BK
        Melchor Monteverde

I have an Ibanez V-300 black. A good friend gave it to me as a present for getting his jazz band a gig in Aruba.

I took it to Nico Volpe (more than a luthier…an artist)who returned me the instrument with a very low action and some fret work. It sounded so good that I installed an LR Baggs M1 (passive acoustic mike)on the sound hole and later added a LR Baggs pre amp-equalizer.

There´s no way I can change this instrument for any other brand. Like the fine wines, it gets better with the years. forget about the scratchs and chips…

        Enjoy yours!

I found a pretty beat up one at the value village in lacey, wa for 15 bucks. the sound reminds me of sawdust settling onto a fine piece of oak. aside from that, i know about as much about it as anyone else on this forum seems to. it’s blank on the part of the sticker where the serial number should be, but it has a ‘1010’ above the japan mark. it also has a floating bridge and green pearl (plastic?) on the 5th,7th, 10th, and 12th frets. it has two white circles around the sound hole and a white outline just on the inside edge of the body. it’s definitely beat up, but the tuning stays fairly consistent throughout the neck, and it’s great for fahey style fingerpicking in open d. i don’t know if there is any monetary value in owning this guitar, but i’ve already fallen in love with it and play it on a more regular basis than my newer made samick.

I just got a ibanez salvador constellation raffaele calace copy number 2000. its an archtop guitar… but don’t know anything about it…. Curiously the peghead inlay read Ibanez and constellation with smaller letters, inside the F holes you read a big label saying Ibanez Salvador in red capitals and Raffaele Calace (handwritten printed signature) copy, plus on the lower right corner of the label a printed 2000 serial number. Could anybody provide any hints to follow to know more about it?… Is there anyway I could date this axe? thanks…

I’ve read that these were all made in the mid to late 1950’s and only 5000 total were made.

Mine is in the 400x range and is probably a 1957-19 59

I bought no 1100 recently on eBay. The owner said 2000 were made..that’s all I know so far but that’s at least a figyre of paradigm and limitation. As Calace was famed for mandolin, why guitar?…some hoo ha from Ibanez?…the guitars are about 50 years old so Ibanez might know. Anyone findig anything might email me directly…cheers tony

How mad is this … I walked in to a guitar studio to day 05/07/2020. Picked a guitar off the wall …just because I liked the look of it ….gave it one strum and bought it…no questions asked. Came home looked at the paper pasted on the back of the guitar. typed the brand and model and number into Dr Google and this site came up. I now own No 1115.
It sounds beautiful… If only my playing was up to standard of the beautiful instrument. Cheers

I have found serial 120x something unreadable. Beautiful archtop, unfortunately neck broken off but not for much longer. It’s getting repaired , I’ll carve a new heel, and I’m sure will be worth it. These were never top end instruments, but they were well made.

      4. Hi. I don't know much about
        Anonymous

Hi. I don’t know much about the value of these guitars. But I do know that Hoshino Gakki, one of Japanese musicshop, began to import classical guitars named “Ibanez Salvador Copy Of Raffaele Calace” about 1950s or so. It is the origin of the brand “Ibanez.” So whether they are worth money or not, still a fairly cool bit of guitar history to own

        Larry Adamson

I know this is an old thread and it talks about several kinds of guitars, but I’m looking for information of the Ibanez Salvador copy of Raffaele Calace NO 1150 flamenco guitar. I think it was manufactured by Ibanez in the mid 50’s to early 60’s. I think the Japanese company bought the rights from the Raffaele Calace company and started making knock offs. My question is do you think the body is cypress wood or just plain plywood? It’s a great student flamenco guitar. There is a video on YouTube of KapaMan00 playing a version of the Beatles’ Something on this model guitar. Excellent playing and he shows you the guitar up close. 15. Ibanez Professional (accoustic)
    RandyB

Hello, I’m new here. My son has accoustic guitar he’s taking to college and I’d like to know what it’s worth so I know how carefully to pack it and whether to insure it during travel. At the top of the neck, it says "Ibanez Professional". The front is blonde wood with a symmetric, typical shape.

I’m not under the impression this is an especially valuable guitar. Does anyone know what it cost new? And, what is it worth now if in very good shape?

    Thanks,
    Randy

    1. Re: LS300 price
      Tim Talbot

There was a series of these Lonestar LS300 guitars — some were electric and some acoustic. A semi-acoustic (semi-solid) version had no soundhole.
I have an acoustic Lonestar LS300 that I bought for $650 in the 1980s (I believe they were first released in the mid-1980s for around $450-$600).
It’s valued at around $1600 these days (2005). But it’s such a great guitar I wouldn’t part with it. It’s very distinctive looking, plays easily and smoothly, and looks like new even though it’s 20 years old.

      1. Re: LS300 price -- worth heaps
        Abel

I agree with you Tim that the Ibanez Lonestar LS300 acoustic was a great guitar. I cannot recommend it highly enough and it is a great disappointment to me that good guitarists of today may never know that their playing would be enhanced even more on an LS300.

I said in another post that I believe the reason these were one of the best acoustic guitars ever made was the thinner-than-usual neck, which allowed the player to get chords positioned a fraction of a second faster than other guitars. I always used to have my chords formed way before the other guys in my band did because they had the traditional fat necks, which slowed them down not only for chord playing but for getting accurate picking done as well.

I don’t think $1600 is unreasonable for one of these rare guitars if it’s in good condition. There are more expensive guitars that give a better sound, but the LS300 is an absolute delight to play because of the slim neck. You can play across the frets faster, and save fractions of seconds getting complex chords formed.

Apart from that, the Lonestar series were all distinctive to look at. Other players were always commenting on the nice look of my guitar.

Long live the Lonestar LS300 !

      Hi Chris
There were several versions of the Lonestar LS300. They were all fantastic guitars and those who still have them are hanging on to them because they are so good and so rare.
Although they sold for about $450-600 in the mid-1980s, they are worth about $1600 these days.
      Hope that helps.
      Tim

I just happened to buy today (july 4. 2006) this Ibanez Lonestar Series guitar from a fellow who was short of money for $400 CAN,I mean the guitar he brought to a music store and the owner wasn’t interested for one bit, – I said that I don’t really need a guitar(have 7 basses & 7 guitars in the house),but I have extra $400 if he wants to sell it.
Well, the fellow needed the money to buy a fly ticket to Mexico..
Well, the guitar is awesome, very good made, the neck through,on scale 1-10 I’ll give 8.75-9.No belt buckle scratches, only a couple if invisible dings on top and little ding on the headstock, but afterall, the guitar is 20 years old and to me those little imperfections are irrevelant to me.
He had on first 3 strings nylon, the rest bronze strings,-after I plugged it in I liked what I heard.I had intentions to string it with metal strings, but I’ll leave it the way it is.
The neck is excellent, action perfect, so is the playability.I think it was a good coincidence on my part…

  19. Lost the "Musician" sign on my Ibanez Musician MC550
    Peter

I am the owner of a 1979 Ibanez Musician MC550WN (walnut), but for reasons of stupidity I lost the gold-coloured "Musician" sign which is originally placed on the head of the guitar. It seemed to have been taken off some time, in order to adjust the tension of the neck, but then got lost. Who knows where I can get such a part again?

you should try ebay. I know some guy is selling a bunch of old musician parts right now. That is probably the only chance… these parts are hard to find for these guitars.

I purchased a natural finish Ibanez bass recently and I’ve been trying to figure out what year it is. The only sign that it is an Ibanez is a plate on the back that has "Ibanez 9213946" I was wondering if anyone knew what year this was manufactured or if it is even an Ibanez. I can send pictures through mail. Thanks
