: : Chris,Your guitar is a 1981 made in month of december. The letter signfies month, the next two numbers are the year, the last four digits remaining are production #S.If you reverse the order of the letter L in sequence to the letter A which is January,You,ll know each month corisponding to the letter before each serial #. Simple..BODABING-BODABOOM!

Btw.., do you want to sell it?
      I’m very interested!

      1. Re: Ibanez Artist --> Any informations?
        The Flezz

Hey, I found a site that broke the serial number down. The first letter is the month of the year. So A is January, etc. The first two numbers are the year, and the last four are is the order in which was built. So my artist is E824994, so it was the 4994th artist built in May of 1982. I can’t seem to be able to find anymore info without paying for it at the moment.

  6. names of other brands made by ibanez
    memphis mike

can someone set the record straight and name the brands that were actually made out of the Ibanez factory. Seems every Japanese guitar made in the 70’s is claimed to be made by Ibanez on Ebay. I know Penco, Cimar, Halifax, Mann, Antoria were but what about all these Memphis, Aria’s, Cortez, Electra and so forth that claim the same. Anyone have a good list?

all i have heard about mine is that they apparently only made 2000 of them, but im not sure how true taht is

i have a 1979 roadster, haven’t been able to find any information on it on the net, all i know is that it was no# 301 made in august 1979. i’ll try and get photo up if anyone wants to see it

          Dale

I’ve got a ’79 Roadster that i picked up at pawn shop for $240 a couple years back. Definately seems like a pretty sweet guitar. Mine is identical to the one on ebay. I’ve had nothing but trouble trying to find info on this beast. Thats the first one i’ve seen. Again, if there were only 2000 made, i’m not surprised that they’re hard to find info on.

      1. Re: Ibanez Roadster 1979 6 string guitar
        Liam

I seem to have one. $40 at a refuse recycling store. Some probably assumed it was a cheap 90’s RG type thing and treated it like a dog. Neck still good, but someone’s poster painted it black, and flames that look to be done by a 5 year old. I’m gonna sand it down and see what’s under there. Still has the Super Tap 6 PUPs in place, and all the original electronics.
        I really like this guitar.
Someone in the know should drop in here and fill us in on this nice-ass guitar.

Oh it brings a tear to my eye LOL.

  13. 1980 Clear finish blond Japanese original issue GB10 for sale
    Adam

I have an original issue 1980 George Benson GB10 in excellent condition. The clear finish is beautiful, its much nicer than a sunburst (and of course they had to use better wood, too) and I won’t denigrate by comparing it to the new ones. The body, neck, frets, bindings, and inlays are all perfect. Some of the gold plate on the tailpiece has come off, and one of the pots makes noise when moved (I never move it when playing, so I never bothered to get it fixed). It comes with the original case, and sounds just like "Broadway." Has George’s signature on a sticker inside, serial number F804928. I thought I would post it here before sticking it on e-bay and see if anyone wants to make a realistic offer on a great guitar! Write me if you are serious and want pictures.

Hello Adam – hope this gets posted. That sounds like a great guitar? Truthfully I’m a bit more inclined to a sunburst, but I can believe that a clear finish uses better wood. How much is a fair price that you’re thinking of? Thanks, Fred

      Maple Body
      -24 3/4 Inch Scale
-V-2 Pickups (Cream Humbuckings, No Covers)
-Two Volume / Two Tone Controls
      -Nichrome Hardware
      -Antique Violin(AV) or Cherry Finish(CH)
The V-2 pickups have killer tone and high output.
In 1982 Ibanez issued the AS50 with Sunburst Finish and Super 58 pickups with covers. For the Size, Sound and pound for pound the AS50 is an excellent guitar. They are on the lower end of the scale compared to the AS200/AS400, other than that it’s

  16. Ibanez Beatle Bass
    Robert J Mitchell

Can anyone help me with the value of an Ibanez Beatle Bass copy. I assume it is around 30 yrs old. It is in excellent condition. It has no scratch plate but don’t think it came with one a la the 1963 Hofner. Paul used to remove it’s scratch plate from time to time.
It is a right-handed model. I have had a new bone nut installed so I could reverse the strings as I’m a lefty. I am considering replacing it with a left-hander. Thanks in advance, Bob

There’s currently one on e-bay for £330, but I think they’re unlikely to get that. Good condition vintage Ibanez basses are fetching around £200-£250 at the moment.

I’m looking to replace a guitar I let go years ago — a late 70’s Artist EQ. Any leads appreciated.

IT has two single coils, neck, middle, and a humbucker in the bridge. It’s a thin S series, and owner claims it was made in Pennsylvania. There is a three way switch selector. And it DOES NOT have the "Custom Made" logo on the fret board. Any help here? Thanks. It is black cherry in color.

    2. Re: What year and model is my guitar ?
      Rob

: Luiz, Ibanez date their guitars with a letter for tthe month, i.e: A for January B for february, etc. The two following digits indicate the year of manufacture. Therefore your guitar was made in July 1983, or at least , that is when the serial number was stamped on it.

      : Luiz Fernando

: Luiz, G, being the seventh letter in the alphabet, indicates that your guitar was made in july, the seventh month of the year. The 83 following the G indicates that your guitar was built in 1983, and was the one thousand nine hundred twentieth guitar to come out of the factory for it’s model number for 1983. Unfortunately, the serial number gives no indication of what the model number is. Hope that helps. Good Luck.

    avery

i own a ’73 to ’77 Cimar lawsuit Les Paul. how many were made and how rare is this guitar today? also how much would this thing be worth??
    thanks avery

    1. Re: help with cimar
      rob

I believe that Cimar is/was a brand used by Ibanez for a cheaper line of guitars. I have a ’70’s bass guitar, which is based on the Fender Jazz. The paint has a couple of ripples at the edge of the body, which would have made it unsuitable to be retailed as an Ibanez, given the high quality of their instruments. (I also have three Ibanez 6 string guitars from the late seventies). By rebranding the instrument as Cimar, Ibanez could avoid scrapping an otherwise useable instrument. The guitar plays well, sounds good, and holds its’ tune, but I dont think it would have any collector value, or be worth very much. I bought mine second hand about twenty years ago for $100.00.

      1. Re: help with cimar

i agree i also bought a cimar and it felt like a ibenez the second i picked it up ad it played almost identical. so i think ibenez has been sellin guitars to save there scrap. VERY SMART IBENEZ, IM ON TO U!!!

        BernieT

I’ve played my Ibanez F-300 BK since the late 70’s and it’s sound has just become better and better over time. I wouldn’t let this guitar go for less than $375. thereabouts–plus the cost ofthe case. That’s just me sense of its value today, although I may be off as I’m not a collector but I’m always on E-Bay looking at acoustic guitars. My favs are Martin, Takamine, Ovation and, of ocurse, olde Ibanez models. Hope this added context helps you.

I’m interested in it if you’re looking to sell it. I’ve been looking for an ibanez archtop from the 70’s.

  26. What kind of paint (polyurethane, etc.) does a black Artist have?
    Richard

    Hello!

    I have a 1980 AR50 Artist, black.

What kind of paint does it have?

I ask because there is a scratch I need to get off of it, and need to buy some touch-up paint.

Gibson sells an Ebony touch-up paint pen, which I thought I would use if it is appropriate. Gibson says "not for use on polyurethane finishes."

So I need to find out.

    Thanks – –

    Richard

    1. Re: Ibanez st-300 Value & what does the gold knob do??
      Patrick

The ST-300 is an guitar with active tone control. The gold knop is used to put the active electronics in/out the pick up circuit. Good news : when battery empty you can continue to play.

Price : no clue. bought mine in 1979 for 525 €. This was the top model. After that there was ST-100 and ST-50

    2. Re: Ibanez st-300 Value & what does the gold knob do??
      joost

      Hello
I have a ST300 since 20 years, bought secondhand in 83, the guitar dates from 79.
The round gold knob is volume. The gold switch is active equalizer on (when down) or bypassed (when up). Put a 9V-battery in the back and you’ll be able to play all sounds.
What it’s worth? Between 250 and 500$ ??? No idea.
      Regards, Joost

  27. Thanks for making the guitars
    Victor Beasley Sr

Thanks for making my two acoutic guitars. I will be headed to Peru Feb 10th for there 1st national day of prayer. I am a Christian artist and the guitars that I purchase will be a blessing for the people of Peru. These are the best latin guitars AEG10-Bk – 14 -03 (Black) and AEG1on – TNG -14 -02 (Orange) that I have ever played and I can’t wait for the people of Peru to hear them, not only that but I was told that the concert which will take place on the 12th of Feb 2005 might be televised. So I am praying that they will sound good live as well as on T.V. Thanks

  28. Ibanez Artist...what year and model is my guitar?
    Richard

    Hello:

I just got an Ibanez Artist…

I would like to figure out which model it is, and what year it was made.

It has 2 Super 70s pickups, 2 volume controls, 2 tone controls, 1 3-way toggle switch.

    Chrome hardware.

Body and neck are black, and both the neck and body are bound with a cream-color binding.

Neck has dot inlays, which look to be fake mother of pearl, can’t really tell.

"Ibanez" up at headstock is mother of pearl, as is the headstock design inlay.

    Serial # is G805585.

Can anyone help? Model, year, any comments etc….?

    Thank you much,

    Richard

      1. Re: Ibanez Artist...what year and model is my guitar?
        Ashley

I recently researched my Ibanez Artist, and found out that the model number gives the month and year the guitar was made. in your case G is July (A being January), and 80 is the year. The other numbers in the model number identifies your guitar as the 5,585th made by ibanez that month.

        Hope this helps.

  29. Wanted: 1978 Ibanez Electric Guitar Catalog
    Ray L.

Hi, I’m looking for a catalog from 1978, as a pic of my guitar is on the last page. I used to have the catalog when I first ordered the instrument but thru the years I’ve lost track of it..
    thanks,
    Ray L.

      Paul

No, you are spot on. The guitar is a Steve Lukather signature model. Pretty rare – I have the Ibanez catalog from 1984 and it’s not in it.

I actually have the same guitar, a january 1984 model which I bought in 1985. It’s a great guitar, it plays very well and has a wide range of tones due to the two humbuckers with coil taps. The arched maple top is nicely figured. It is fitted with the Hard Rock-r Pro tremelo unit. This is the one part of the guitar that I’m not massively impressed with. My guitar does not have the locking top nut, however the trem is at best average. Tuning stability when using it is not great. It was made with fiddly bridge components which were designed to lock the strings in place, however I found them to be a total pain when replacing strings so they found themselves relegated to a box which has since been lost. No great loss to be honest. However I’m not a huge trem user (possibly as a result of this guitar) so I don’t realy care.

I’ve had this guitar for 20 years and is is categorically not for sale!

that is a 1983 steve lukather model. made two years 1984 has a locking nut. look on the neck plate his signature should be there. very nice guitar. if it is in good condition keep it.

I come across this guitar, nice looking, blueishgreen quilt top, gold plated hardware, Ibanez system tremolo, kinda shaped like a double cutaway LP, I have the sn, L830896, which I gather is Dec. 83, #896, but have been able to find no info on this guitar, Did I dream this, or did I write the title down wrong?

        Rating : BEST GUITAR ever!
I bought my 83 RS1010SL in 1986 backstage @ The Stone in SF,CA, from Steve’s supposed Guitar tech, and have used it for all this time, The Leather Case still has his Name Stenciled in it, always wondered if Rollie was BS-ing me on its origin. This is the best guitar I have ever had and fits my smallish hands and light touch, I had it modded and routed for a studio guitar adding a FEANC system, but went back to the 77’Dimarzio Super Distortion Humbuckers I have had since 77’Just this past year I had to have it re-finished as I will never sell it and the Marine Blue was wearing.. went to Tobacco Sunburst.. I love it. SER # A830919 L-mo

I have got a guitar that I know nothing about. Maybe someone can help me out. The note inside of the guitar says; "Ibanez Modelo No. 356, DESDE 1908, Nagoya Japan". The guitar is nylon stringed. Can anyone tell me how old it is, approx. how much it is worth?
    Best regards

I don’t know what it’s worth on today’s market. For what it’s worth, I bought mine in 1971, one year after I met and one year before I married my wife. As I recall, I paid about $89 (in 1971 dollars) for it. I still have both the guitar and wife, and don’t plan to give up either. If anyone comes up with more information on this model series, I’ll be interested to see/hear it.

: I am looking for a price/value on a 1978 pf200 model Ibanez Les Paul style guitar. When I purchased it in 1980, it had a list price of $600. I’ve taken good care of it over the years, I would have to say it is in Very Good to Near Mint condition.

I paid $300 for my ’77 PF200 in 2000. Whatever the buyer will pay is your selling price. A good prospect would be someone who wants a "poor man’s" LP. If it is in as good shape as you say, just let them play it and see for themselves what an excellent playable guitar it is! Tom

    Joel (via moderator)

I have a used Artwood acoustic. As I understand it, there was, at one point, just an Artwood model (before the AWxxx models). I may be wrong but my guitar has AW on the head and just says "Artwood" inside the body with the serial number 9506365. I’ve looked on the Ibanez site and can’t find any pertinent information. I was hoping some folks here could tell me a bit more about my (first) guitar. Thanks.
