Re: vintage guitars

I have been looking very hard for an airline guitar... it appears u have one... if there were anyway u could send pictures... or maybe even a price.. i think we could work something out

Re: vintage guitars

my first decent electric guitar was an airline slim line hollow body, single cutaway , twin pickup, sunburst finish, purchased for $139.95 in 1960. I would love to find one of these guitars again. Current value on most airline guitars would be several times the original purchase price & to someone who is looking for some of their youth probably a few hundred dollard, if in playable condition, If you know of anybody that has any knowledge of possible availability of the one like i had, please e-mail @ styrrell@kc.rr.com: : : : : : : Has anyone out thier heard of a montgomery wards airline guitar & amp
: : : : : : : from the 1950's. A friend of mine owns one and needs to know the $value.
: : : : : : : i have a wards airline green electric bought it 1965 new paid $59.95, as to the value i dont know, the airline guitars were made by kay,and valco.the airline brand are similar to nationa and supro models.

: : : : : : I have an Airline guitar, no amp. It was my first. Don't know the value. corrected address :dandot@lakeland.ws

: : : : : Have a red airline guitar, no amp. bought in the mid 60's, need to know value. Please email if you know.

: : Sorry, I'm not sure on the value of the Airline guitars, but I have heard of them. They don't seem to be on ebay either. I am interested in buying one though, if it's the same model as Jack White's from The White Stripes. Please email me if anybody has any information on how I can get one. Thank you.

: The Airline guitars are showing up on ebay now I see. So if you still need help on pricing, try going there to see what people are charging for them.

Re: vintage guitars

Jack White of the band The White Stipes has a red and white Airline guitar that Montgomery Ward sold in the 60's. if that will help

Re: vintage guitars

I was given a red Airline and a Silver tone amp in 1968 by some good guys at school in Eldridge Iowa when I left my first electric guitar in Canada. I still have the guitar today - an aquaintence here in the UK built guitars and reckoned he'd seen the airline in a collectors magazine valued at around £400.00. Apparently it was built for the department store market by National. Have you noticed the band Red Stripe are using them.

My information is anecdotal and I would appreciate confirmation

It's probably pretty decent -- it's the guitar Jack White of the White Stripes plays. How much you want for it?

I just got an acoustic electric hollow body airline from a man, and he said it was a late fifties model. I too would like to know the value.

: : : : : : I have a 1964 solidbody Airline that my grammy bought me when I was a little punk. It was originally red but I long ago stripped that off and underneath is a much prettier curly maple veneer which now has a lovely 'warm' patina to it. The neck is a bit on the thick side, more like an acoustic, but is surprisingly fast. I love it's simplicity and it screams thru my 1969 Sunn amp. Value? I'm not sure- these were sought after in the 80's by punk bands who appreciated their powerful, squawky tone. Besides being a present from my beloved Grammy, it's one of my most prized posessions and I wouldn't give it up for the world!

Don't listen to that, I have 11 bass guitars including a starter bass by wards or whoever made it. I sold one of my Airline Bass guitars, had a sliver pickup and the wooden bridge that was also a pickup. Played very well, anyway I got 900.00 for it. You'll suprised to know that some are worth 1500.00, depends on the shape it's in. Just in case I'm looking for daul 15" Kustom amp, roll & tuck, at least 200 watts, prefer Blue sparkle, with the 2 chrome ports.

I have an airline guitar sold by Montgomery Wards in approx. 1968. It is a solid maple top, I think, and is blonde with the rest being dark mahogany. I just played ?? it tonight at a jam session. I have had it since new. What is it worth? It could be for sale. E-Mail me please.

Re: vintage guitars

The airline was a model built by the Harmony company from the 50ies thru the 60ies with one, two or three pickups. Those from the 50ies had a more LesPaul like design while those later got a really weired looking shape (reminds me on som BC Richs). Thanks to Jack White from "White Stripes" and other garge bands this guitar comes back into the flashlight. Currently you can trade ist for about 350$ but in one year, I bet the prices will at least double, if the success of "White Stripes" remain.

Re: vintage guitars

:Hey, I need some help on finding a picture of a vintage acoustic from Airline. I don't know what model it is cause there's no label on the inside. I've searched everywhere to find a picture and some info on this guitar, but i've had no luck. If anyone can help e-mail me at gunny2504@yahoo.com. Thanks

I have an old airline guitar in my family room. It's a really cool looking piece of furniture. The # inside the guitar is L 5774. Does anyone have any idea the year on this one? It's an acoustic hollow body with f holes and a Les Paul type shape.

Re: Airline guitars

Basically your all hunting for the guitar which jack white has made famous so ill tell you all i know.
It is a 1964 Airline jetson res-o-glas.
It was made by the valco company and is available under the names of national and supro as well as airline, however the national and supro versions do not have the same headstock as the airline. The airline brand was created specifically for the montgomery wards department store. The cost of an airline jetson changed very little after the valco company liquidised in 1969, until mr jack white hit it big. Now these guitars trade fairly regularly on e-bay. The current market value is around $450 and this is a worthwhile investment believe me. The value of these guitars will only continue to rise especially if jack and meg carry on as they are. happy hunting.

Re: Airline guitars

do you know where i can buy an airline 1964 jetson res-o-glas

That's not really true

Actually, Jack White hasn't had that guitar since his first album. (Which isn't as good as Elephant.) Since his second CD, he has played with a 1950's Kay Hollowbody. He tunes it very high for a unique sound.

Re: That's not really true

Thats not true..he plays that on all of his songs. he uses the kay for slide guitar..like for death letter .. little bird..etc.. all his normal tuned songs he uses his airline..even at live shows he uses his airline..then his kay for slide.

Re: Airline guitars

What you SHOULD do with it is sell it to me. PLEASE. Email me, brightsidesuicide0@hotmail.com Thanks

Re: Airline guitars i know of a few places to try

:
: : katie i admire your selection in good guitars. it is hard to find these guitar especially the year 1966 or 1967 like jack white's they are hard to find. a few places to go is a auction site prferiabley ebay.com. or you could go to a pawn shop or what some would call a swap shop if you play your cards right you can jew the boss down because if a guitar does not say fender or gibson on it and it says airline or harmony on it they think it is crap. so you may get it cheaper than you think, if they don't have one just tell them what your looking for and take a copy of a picture of the guitar just so they will know what you are looking for and leave your phone or contact number on the picture and you would not believe how many calls you'll get it may not be what your looking for but you could find some cool guitars. i just recently found a airline guitar (not like jack whites it is a little earlier or later than jack's) but i am going to try to get it because there sound is awesome i am going down there to try to bargaain really bug and beg for it i could get it for like 150 when they were wanting $250 so i am going to go when i know the boss is there and bug them to death but just do your best and let everyone know what you are looking for in your town and they may find one. also check at yard sales especially at old houses where people are cleaning out there attics you would not believe what you'd find. and at like these auctions they have on houses being foreclosed because some old person died you can find interesting guitars at places like that.

p.s. good luck sincerly,
john eric york

: : The White Stripes guitar is a Montgomery Ward Airline guitar.

: do you know where this guiar would be available, because i have looked everywhere and cannot find one.

Well, my dad has an Airline acoustic guitar from back in the 60s/70s. As for getting your hands on one, I'd try searching for special orders online. Maybe someone's got one.
