Re: daion guitars and basses
: If you can remember the very first Duran-Duran video on MTV, whasshisname is playing a lipstick red Daion bass. I hated Duran-Duran, but I would tolerate that video just to get a glimpse of the only other Daion I ever saw being played.
: I bought a brand new black bolt-on neck bass in 1981 for the enormous sum of $400 (the aluminum neck Kramer I also lusted for was only $350). The only guitar I have ever owned that played better was a Rickenbacker 4001 that was undoubtably one of the first of it's kind (four digit serial number...and I sold it for $175 because it was getting beat up on the road, aargghh). The only thing I ever owned that sounded better was a jap Spector. I'd rather have the Daion than either of the above, though. If anyone wants to sell one of the bolt-ons, I'm buying! Mike C.
This is weird. I too bought a black Daion bolt-on back in 1981 up here in the Great White North. The reason I bought it? My Rickenbacker 4001 was to heavy for my liking. Now if you tell me that your Rickey was white(since turned to a beautiful cream colour)that would be one for the X-Files. Anyways my Daion has been in constant service for the last 21 years and is still one of the best sounding basses you'll ever hear,in the studio and on stage. On top of it all it only cost me $325.00 Cdn.and I got them to throw in a case. There was only one other Daion that I saw in person and it was a sky blue? one.By the way in case anyone is keeping track the serial number on the back of the headstock is 10734.DAION RULES!
