Morris Model MD-56

I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea about how old my guitar is.. My dad bought it about 15-16 years ago. Also, it's still in good shape but I want to fix it up a little bit and would like to know how much it's worth (about) and whether I'm better off just buying a new guitar.
Thanks.

Re: Morris Model MD-56

I was wondering if you have found some informatiom on the Morris MD-56. I just picked one up and was wondering its age. I put some new strings on it and it sounds great.
Any info you might have would be apretiated
Thanks,

Damaged Morris guitar

Hi, dear All!
I have an acoustic Morris guitar (model W604M) with bronze strings, made in Japan in 1977. I own it for 18 years, I very like the sound of it and I cared it very much. But unfortunately it slipped out from the shoulder-strap and fell down. The edge of the back side was bruised, and it seems that on about a six inches long part the back plate was parted from the side. I see another hairline cleft on the middle of the edge. I would like to know, that whether this effects the sound of the guitar? If yes, can the guitar be repared? The sound of the guitar will be the same as originaly? I am in despair.
Thank you in advance,
Ferenc Hajdu

Info: Morris Tornado XX-80

Hi;
I have just purchased a Morris Tornado XX-80 with the fibreglass back and inbuilt pick up.

Anyone know anything about when they were produced and their relative quality....sounds pretty good.
Appreciate any info / contact.

Re: Info: Morris Tornado XX-80

Hi there,

I am the originator of this little session. I actually forgot all about it until your e-mail reached me nearly two years later since I wrote the first one.
Your guitar is not the top of the series..it has limited mother of pearl however it sounds fantastic like all these Morris Tornados. The one I am actually after is the GZ..
goo luck with yours..you have a bargain..as it used to retail around the late eighties for around $850.00 Australian dollars.
regards
Gary

Also own a Morris Tornado which I purchased in 1984. It's a great instrument to say the least.
Recent e-mail contact with Morris in Japan indicated that they discontinued the fibreglass (round) back some 10 years back as demand in Japan favoured traditional style units.
Enjoy it though.

Hi - I got mine in 1983, Melbourne Australia. Still going well; had some minor nut/fret work and rewiring a couple of years ago. I have NEVER seen another!

I've had a Hurricane Susie for a couple of years. Had never heard of the company, but came across the guitar in a pawnshop and fell in love with it without even pluggin in.
I got the creature for $80CDN. Gorgeous black Strat copy. Solidly built, terrific neck.
I took it into my guitar tech for a setup and he just gaped at the guitar and said, "what in hell is *this*?".
Next day when I dropped by to pick it up he just couldn't stop gushing about the guitar ... he was quite blown away!
I love the pickups ... really crisp, clean and clear. I bought a slightly used Epi Explorer a couple of days ago and did a comparison test on the pickups between the two guitars .. whoa!! Really made me appreciate the pups on Susie!
Would like to get another set and swap out the pups on the Explorer.
Have no idea what materials the Morris is made of - other than the rosewood fingerboard.
I've seen other, used, Morris Hurricanes around, though not another Susie ... these tend to be real "shred-metal" guitars ...
It would take A LOT of cash to get me to part with my Susie!!!

Re: Hurricane

I bought a Hurricane Susie about 18 months ago off eBay for AUS$165.oo The only info I can find on Hurricane is on sites like this. I too know very little about them and any guitarists I speak to have never heard of them. It seems that anyone who owns/has owned one is wrapt with them. I have been told that the electrics in mine are extremely "clean", which apparently is unusual for an 80's Japanese. Also the passive pickups sound great and are apparently comparable to some active pickups. Not being a "guitar head" this all means very little to me lol. I usually play acoustic and the Hurricane is my first electric, but the consensus would seem to be that I have made a good choice :)

Re: Hurricane

Hi
I have a Morris Telecaster Custom.
It's realy a very nice guitar.
The guitar is made very well, much better then the copies now. Its not Plywood!! but real wood.

Re: Hurricane

Just a question.
i´ve got an old electric guitar, Hurricane Susie by Morris. Anybody knows something about it? I´ve always enjoy playing with it, but I dont really know much about it, nor of its value or its quality...anyway i like it.

Morris Model W-80

I purchased this guitar in a Yokohama guitar shop in 1980. Every one who hears it loves the rich sound. I has really low action as well. Does anyone know what it would be worth today? Thanks!

Re: Morris Model W-80

I just sold one on consignment for $150.

Re: Morris Model W-80

$150!? Wow! I would have give you a lot more than that. Are we talking about the same guitar? 3 Piece back, mother of pearl inlays, abalone trim all the way around the body? I hope we are not talking the same guitar.

Re: Morris Model W-80

: Thank you! This baby is SWEET! It outplays Martin! It will never be for sale! Thank you Jeff! You Da Man! Of course when I bought it, the Yen rate was about 260 to the dollar. So if I sold it for half that now, I would still come out ahead. $150! I think not.......
