  1. Gibson RD Artist Manual & Electronics Schematic
    Niels

    Hello,

I own a Gibson RD Artist from 6th of June 1979.
After a search of one year in my country(The Netherland) in finely found one, almost 3 years ago.
I wanna know more about it, so that’s why I’m Looking for a Manual and the Electronical Schematic. I think the schematic is the same as from ’77 & 78.
So if someone can get one for me. Maybe a copy of it, please let me know.

    Thanks

  3. Clint Briley
    Tina O'Connell

I have been Searching for a Clint Briley hand made gutair or the man. I want to surprise my husband for our 10th anniversery by getting him one of these. It is the sweetest tone on a gutair I have ever heard. If I can’t find another, I would like to find Clint. I know he lived in Clearwater Florida for a while. I did too. His gutair I bought for my boyfriend at the time 12 years ago caused him to fall in love with me. We have been married just shy of 10 years now. This gutair has played a romantic part in our lives. Anyone who can help with finding Clint Briley or one of his gutairs please email me asap: [email protected]! Thanks!

Can anyone tell me what they are worth nowadays and where I can let them be repaired for the electronic parts if necessairy. Thanks a lot!! Paul from Holland.

I own one, love it. tried to get active electronics fixed/replaced years ago, went to a ‘famous’ builder – who was actually very good, he kept the guitar for about 2 months looking for the electronic’s – but alas gave up and i do believe there are no replacements, although now with the internet who knows. If you look on the net, you will see that these baby’s go for $2k to $4k depending. Good luck!

    1. Get an RD if you don't have one!
      Bass Bombin'

I have been fortunate to have owned a 1979 RD Artist for about 10 years now.
The necks a little warped and there are some dings here and there but I still would never get rid of it. If you can get past the extreme weight of this ax, I would get try to get your hands on one. It has some of the sweetest sounds I’ve ever heard from a bass. I say some because with the onboard electronics, you can switch the sound in various combinations. Combine that with a Big Muff and a Cry Baby and youve got a recipe for some heavy sh#t. Trust me, if you get the chance to buy one, take it! I’m trying to by a new one as we speak. But I’ve already got one so I’ll let you poor fools who don’t have one to take advantage. Happy hunting!

There was one in Wizard Guitars in Doncaster a few years back for about £900 and another deep reddish in Music Ground but I think that was an RD Custom. You can keep seeing them around if you visit a lot of stores. We’ve got a nice one but wouldn’t sell unless someone offered us silly money.

        : Hello!

: I´m actually thinking of buying one, but I don´t have it yet. * smile *

: As far as I know these were manufactured during a short period of time in the early 1970-s, (70-72 or if it was 71-72.) They´re not too common since they were manufactured in fairly small numbers during only a couple of years.

: The SB450 is a cheaper version of the EB3 model, sharing some of the hardware with the MelodyMakers. There was also a shortscale version of the instrument called SB350. These two replaced the earlier SB400 and SB300…

Hello: I have two rd artist guitars. The RD Artist, Les Paul. Only 500 were made in the early 80’s. I also have the RD Artist, designed by Dr. Robert Moog, Tobacco Burst.

    2. Re: Gibson RD Artist How many was made ? what it worth ?
      surfordie

If it’s mint condition it could fetch up to US$1000, more if you sell it in England. I’m not sure how many they made, but they were only manufactured for 2 years. They are still quite common. so not quite a collector’s item yet, unless it belonged to someone famous.
Do you have one? I have two and I restore them. If you have one you’d be willing to sell let me know.

      ian

: Have this guitar. Anybody there who has a Manual or s.th. like that; want to to know more ’bout the electronics (compressor ??)

      Right, here goes!

There is a three way switch which selects the pickups. OK. There is another three-way which does nothing in the centre position. In the pointing BACK position (at the bum of the gtr) it is a treble boost. Very sharp and toppy. Pointing FORWARDS at the head of the gtr, it is strange. The NECK pickup is compressed, the notes have long sustain, chords are quieter, single notes fuller. The BRIDGE pickup is ‘expanded’ like a squelch on a radio. Signal to moise improves, sustain is less, the sound is more percussive. Both pickups TOGETHER there is a sharp percussive attack, from the bridge pickup, followed by a smooth swell as the neck pickup takes over. It’s a bit disconcerting and like the housefly has no known practical use. The RD Artist was to be Gibson’s flagship model but the music industry was underwhelmed and it failed. Dr Moog of the famous synthesiser is reputed to have helped design it. They’s have been better off asking Professor Les Paul IMHO.

      I still love mine tho.

      Roger

I have this guitar since 1980 I think. But I did’nt play it for about ten years. I’m pretty sure that I have a complete description of the guitar and all the (Moog)electronics.
Please let me know if youre still intrested. (I have to find the papers)

    3. Re: Gibson RD Artist 78 Guitar
      mark

I had this guitar for about five years, sold it about ten years ago. Excellent necks on those. I never had a manual, but checking up on them over the years, I discovered that the two effects are a compressor and a treble booster. Hope this helps!

  23. Gibson EB 750
    Keith Temple

Does anyone out there know ANYTHING about these beasts???? They have a big semi-acoustic single cut away jazz guitar sytle body in book- matched flame maple, F sound holes, ebony board, Bartolini active humbuckers, gold hardware, and MASSIVE "Elvis on tour in the 50’s" pimp style cases (oddly enough, they were made around 1990). I saw one about three years ago in Andy’s in Demark St. (London)and it was £1850($3000+)and I wanted it, but couldn’t afford it (sigh). So, I had to leave it…I searched online and found ONE in Santa Rosa ($3500)….ANYWAY, the years flew by and I re-found the same EB-750 for sale for £1250 in "The Gallery-Bass Merchant" (The COOLEST bass shop in the WORLD!)…so, that was that – I bought it..I have still found nothing about it other than the usual Gibson thing where they tell you back whet you have just told them….oh, and that the one in Santa Rosa was bought by the bassist in "Hole" – I would finish by saying that they are FANTASTIC and everyone loves it ( including my girlfrind amazingly enough…)
SO PLEASE…ask your friends and relatives, search you garages, attics and local libraries. All help gratefully received

    Thanks

    Keith

My box ( model V4, 4×12", 100W 8 Ohms )has CTS speakers, ceramic type and they sound great. I have played the head with Marshall ( Slash signature) box and with JBL loudspeakers from a Fender Twin Reverb but the CTS sound much better.
I also would like to get more info on these speakers as the CTS www has not info. Hope this is of assistance.

I have a 1974 Gibson Ripper in natural finish with all original parts and hardshell case. It is in good condition for its age. The asking price is $600.

I just sold a 73 Gibson L9 Ripper Blond on Blond with no case last year for $700. It was in great condition with the bridge cover and all. I have to say that such guitars sell a little high here in Nashville so keep that in mind. I wish I had that bass back.
