Need parts for Melita bridge…1957 Gretsch Duo Jet. Specifically, plastic string gizzy, metal thingy that holds the plastic string gizzy in place, and metal screws which hold said parts onto the bridge. Sorry for being technical. Anyone got a piece or two of this puzzle. Seems when I added the Bixby in 1958 which comes with the roller bridge, a few of the Melita parts excaped over the ensuing 48 years. Perhaps the greys have them. Just had the guitar renecked and refretted for $700+ and the guitar may now become a year of retirement if I can get it put it into perfect shape. It sure plays nice. This is the only item I bought in the ’50s which has gone up in value. I do thank you for paying attention. Just in case my email doesn’t show…it is [email protected]

I need either the entire flying trapeze/bridge set up, or just the tailpiece that connects to the body of the guitar for a ’58 ES 225 TD (The same bridge as the original ’52 Les Paul) Please email me at [email protected] with the word "TAILPIECE" in the subject line, so I can catch it if it gets blocked by a spam protector.

…looking for a replacement trapese tailpiece for a 57 or 58 Gibson ES 225 TD. It’s the only thing that needs repair on a guitar I found that’s been sitting around for 30 years. Any help would be appreciated.

        Hi
I have a 58 es225 with the short later style tailpiece. You may well have found what you’re looking for by now. I’m trying to find an original Bigsby for my guitar as it’s apparent it came from the factory with one. Incidentally using a short tailpiece with a floating tune-o-matic is preferable to the older trapeze piece because you can intonate the guitar much more accurately. You see many 58 225’s with this set-up and all the 59’s. They look more elegant as well. Maybe you’d be willing to keep your eyes peeled for a Bigsby and we’ll arrange my set-up for you. Here’s my e-mail
        [email protected]

        1. Trapeze tailpiece 57 es225td
          Casey

Same problem with mine … trapeze tailpiece wore in two right where the trapeze and tailpiece come together. Ive been looking for 5 years for a replacement and I can find everything except the trapeze tailpiece! it was a belly flop when Gibson went with it … I mean 10″ trapeze? wow!
Does anyone know if a 60’s tailpiece will work … they are a bit shorter. I’m almost to the point of putting a Evertune on it. I know it will devalue the guit … Im not worried about that … just want to get something on it that works. not a big fan of tremolo bars. but if I can find an original bigsby I would do that instead of Evertune.

      Kris

I dont know where you can fine parts to this guitar but i have the same one and would like to know more about it. How much could i sell it for? Or about how many were made?
that would be great if you knew any of this info.

      1. Re: Harmony H66 Vibra Jet...parts wanted
        Zach White

Well, obviously it depends on the condition, but if it had most of the original parts and was in pretty decent condition I would guess between $250-$400, maybe more. Also, I believe that not many were made, unlike the Harmony Rocket and others like it. But if you hear anything about parts I would be greatly appreciative.

Now than I am back home, I found that I have no idea how to take off the metal piece that covers the bridge, hence I cannot change the strings… It slides front and back, but it just doesn’t come off. Any advice or instructions are greatly appreciated!

      : Leonard Lee
      : Hong Kong

leonard just loosen the strings and then remove the little springs under the trem arm. that will give you the slack you need to remove old strings and replace with new ones. once all the new ones are in reverse the procedure and you’re all set

    2. Re: Teisco MJ-2L changing strings
      eddie

For MJ2 bridge (without the whammy) Slide the bridge cover as far back as it goes towards the guitar bottom. With fingers under the open front of the bridge ease it up, it’ll be a tight fit but you should feel it budge thsi means the retaining slot is disengaged and it shoudl lift off. If it doesn’t move at all try sliding the bridge back more. Go easy and you can’t go far wrong. Best of luck

I have had a black pickguard moulded from gel coated fibreglass for my es 120t. I can run off more for other 120t owners. It is indistinguishable from the original but much stronger.
