I have a model 5 (ser. # C603419). The mid range boost circuit makes the output from the guitar distort a bit ay any level. But with the mid range boost off all the way, the output sounds too thin. Also there is a lot of nasty noise when your adjusting the mid range boost. The guitar sounds better when you put a new battery in but the distortion is still unacceptable for me. Is there a way to upgrade the mid range boost circuitry? If you disconnect the mid range boost circuit, do the pickups work without the battery?

I have two of these guitars. Mid boost stays clean but i dont use it much on a clean sound. Try some different amp matching, crate blue vodoo works well for me. I keep reminding myself how good these guitars are when i get new onws for the collection. Latest is a PRS custom 24 which has excellent clean sounds but my model 5 wipes it out on great rock tones. Still my No.1 all time guitar 🙂

    1. Re: Tx Charvel, does anyone know about these?
      will

:strange because I have this guitar call an Aspen that I was trying to figure out what it was all about. I started looking everywhere for information about it. I ran across some blogs from other aspen guitar owners but none of them have the same guitar as I do. Then I ebay searched my guitar and nothing came up but a vintage magazine add that someone was trying to sell. It had a gutar on it that was almost identical to mine other than the string pegs. My guitar is a 77 while the guitar on the ad was made in 78. I mean they were pretty much identical with the same exact inlay pattern and all. So I blew up the ad to see if I could read the address at the bottom. It said write to international "guitar makers for the world" P.O. Box 2344 fort worth texas 76101. So googled international. Couldn’t find anything. Then I googled "guitar makers for the world" nothing came up. So then I decided to google the address and turns out the address pointed me to your post here and it happens to be a guitar question with the same address but different zip code. I know it is possible for zip codes to be different now than in the 70s. So if this information helped you any or gave you any clue then hell yes! If you do figure any s**t out on this matter or the name of the company your guitar is made by than let me know. You can find me on facebook my name is William James Kerr. Thanks!

      Kasey Katz

I saw on one web site that if it has the Fort Worth name plate that it means it was made in Japan. They don’t sell for as much as the American made guitars, but then again they didn’t cost as much to begin with. They do hold their value if they are in good shape. Does the termolo have fine tuners that are big and round and come out the back of the trem instead of on top or is it a standard Floyd?

    Jeff N. (via moderator)

I bought my current charvel in the mid 90’s. It has no neckplate, is a neck-thru, has a Floyd Rose, 24 frets, 2 Jackson pick-ups, and "Charvel" is written in the typical Jackson script. The tuners also say "Jackson" on them. The serial number on the neck is C903256. Any help or info would be appreciated. Thanks.

: What’s the value of a Jackson Soloist 1985 San Dimas Custom Shop? The serial number is J1265. I’m considering selling this guitar because I don’t have time to play it anymore. It is the best guitar I’ve ever owned as far as playability and staying in tune. All original components and good condition. Email with offers, I can send pictures.

Around $500 if it has a Kahler, $700 with Floyd Rose.

While I agree the fact that it has a Kahler brings the value down, I think both estimates are a little low. The San Dimas Jacksons are the most sought after by Jackson enthusiasts and they’re value continues to go up. If it’s in good condition and a neck thru I would say at least $700 perhaps more depending on the paint and fretboard. Does it have an ebony slab? Pau Ferro? Binding on the frets? All will make it more valuable to the collectors

I own a one of a kind custom made by Grover Jackson himself. It has THE prototype body from which ALL 88’s were patterened after. The guitar was made for Harry Cody of Shotgun Messiah to his specs. It looks like an 88, obviously, but has a one of a kind scalloped, near zero radious fingerboard.

Any questions or awnt to see pics just email, reguards.

Hey Pete, I’ve got one…I’m from Cincinnati…not really sure what info, you’re looking for but I’ll give you an update on mine…it was very well used in late 89 to 90, on the road…I traveled the whole east coast with it, and it was my primary guitar…I ended up replacing the pick-up in it with a Seymour Duncan trembucker, because the ceramic Jackson pick-up that was in it, buzzed alot, when I played clubs with alot of neon lights…I had to replace the nut too, because the screws to the lock-down deal, just eventually stripped, and couldn’t find replacements…as of now, I’m looking for a replacement whammy bar for it, cause it basiically "melted" from my sweat,(because of the pot metal construction)where my hand laid against it on the lower string side…BUT, it’s one of the best playing guitars that I’ve ever owned, for the neck and duribilty…a very easy playing axe…really glad to still own it…I just played it to death (five to six nights, on the road), so that’s what I’ve got to say about THAT, LOL
Write me back if you’ve got any questions,
      Seizure,

I have a model 2 with a fury ZP20,its hot and loud but it has a tap so if you add a push pull switch you can have a great single coil sound or ground the tap through a pot and have varied tones Fury’s are made in saskatoon Saskatchewan canada probably the best pick up made

  22. One of a kind Jackson Arch top.
    Greg

Now gentlemen, this is a first for me and many years since I’ve bought or sold guitars, but what I have here is one of the three remaining guitars in my once large collection of original Jackson and Charvel guitars. No junk here. Nothing but US handcrafted in San Dimas or Ontario. This one of a kind proto-type was built for someone, I’m not sure who? Maybe the cat in ZZ Top, I forget now, but it is basicly a "Dinky Strat or Soloist shape. The thing that makes this guitar so incredibly rare, perhaps the only one in existance is it has a 22 fret bolt on neck and the body is an arch top. Like an arch top soloist and a Phil Colen. "A Dinky Archtop Strat" Body material is likely Alder or Poplar, it’s pretty light. The guitar is absolute original and stored. 22 Fret maple with brazilian rosewood fingerboard with pearl shark tooth inlays. A reverse headstock painted black w/ a white Jackson logo w/"made in usa. Four digit serial neckplate Ontario made in late 80’s. The guitar has the good bridge licensed Floyd pat. Jackson stamped made by Schaller. One bridge Humbucker, J-90 or custom wound Jackson P.U. One volume knob. All hardware is black and the guitar is a beautiful sea foam green. Black rectangle case. I’ve owned at least 50 of the most incredible Jackson’s ever produced. Pictures and stories you would not beleive. People who know me, can tell you. Back in the day before the internet. This is the first and only posting ever of this guitar. I don’t know what to ask for it? I’m out of the loop now. Help? I’m in Los Angeles.

        Brett

I’m a huge fan of Oliva and there are a few things you should know. First of all the guitar the he is most known for was the "gargoyle" which he played on most albums and Skolnick and others used after his passing. Unfortunatley for us Jackson/Charvel players it was actually an ESP that had Charvel painted on the headstock. I know he also used Bartolini pickups, which can be ordered online. I would checkout the Savatage website for more details if your trying to get his sound. He used other Jackson/Charvel’s but the Gargoyle was the main one as I understand. If you want to see one of his guitars go to the Hard Rock Cafe in Orlando.

I bought mine for 575 CDN many years ago. It’s a middle of the road performer and sounds like a banjo when plugged int. The feel of the neck is unique and more like a jazz electric than a standard country acoustic. Good for rhythm, not so good for fingerwork. The low end suffers a little acoustically too. I still like mine

: I have a 625 c accustic with a pickup and a cut out. I bought the guitar for $500canadian from a small music shop. The owner has made me numerous offers to buy it back including a trade on a handmade retailing for $2200 canadian. Can anyone tell me anything more about this guitar?

I’ve had mine since I was 16 years old. It’s been in 2 wars and all over the world with me. It still plays great! Sure, the low end is a bit shallow, but when you plug in you can doctor it some and it’s sounds decent. I mostly play rhythm, although soloing on it is doable. But it wasn’t made for that I don’t think.

  28. trying to locate an old charvel I had. It had two active double humbuckers, neck through, 24 frets, floyd rose, 5 position toggle, vol, tone, passive/active knobs, deep purple w/mahogany .
I don’t even know what model it was. Can’t find it anywhere.
    thanks

  29. Curious about my Charvel too!
    Michael Limbaugh

In 1997 I bought a Kobalt Blue metalic neck-thru Charvel while passing through Indiana. It has 1 double coil or humbucker pick-up & a volume knob with what seems to a coil splitter switch. The serial #C800831 appears after the 24th fret. Is there any useful info about this guitar or a place website to find out the worth? I also need to mention it has a Jackson style (or so I was told) hardshell case with the word Charvel molded into it. Some one once found info using the serial# & said it was made in San Dimas custom shop in 1984. Is this true?

  30. Is it a model 4
    jimmy

I think i have a model 4, it has a ft. worth tx. usa address on the bolt on neck plate and serial# 309592. It has jackson hardware with a dual locking floyd, sharkfin inlay, active humbucker and 2 single coils, it has 3 knobs and 3 toggles and is in mint condition. Could anyone tell me what it is for sure and your best guess of what it’s worth.

I bought a model 4 back in 1986 in London, England in metallic blue (serial 252765) and it still plays like a dream. The description you give sounds like my guitar. I also own Martins ang Gibsons but regularly pick up the Charvel 4.

If it help you to be sure, the three knobs are from outside towards strings 1)active tone; 2)coil-tap (graduated), 3) volume

Yes, it is a model 4, I have two of them. Once I bought new in 1990 and the other I got in 95. I love them and wish I had two or three more.

Have found little on this guitar. Manufactured between 1992 and 1996. Not much else on this guitar.

  32. Anyone know what this is
    BK

Can anyone tell me what the model is of a Strat Style Charvel/Jackson Metalic Blue. It has Jakson Tuners, Floyd Rose Bridge with no Jackson stamp, 3 Jackson Pickups Bridge is a Double coil, Single in Mid and another Double Coil on Neck hooked to a 5-Way switch. One piece oiled maole neck with Rosewood fret board with dots. This Guitar is Pasive. I think the vintage is in around 86-88 I have never seen another one like this and it appears not to be a parts job. Any ideas?

I am also looking for what model my guitar is. You seemed to match my guitar exactly other than the fact that I have a bridge Humbucker, and 2 forward single coils. I have the black tremolo system that has "liscensed under Floyd Rose Patents" on it. I believe that it was made around 86-88 also, and is the same color and everyting. If you get any feedback, could you please mail me and let me know what you came up with. Thanks man…
