Looking for a 12 string acoustic, Gibson Hummingbird replica

Back in around 1973 - 1974, I purchased a 12 string acoustic, Gibson Hummingbird replica, Pan guitar, with a sunburst front, from the Saied Music Company here in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It had amazing resonance and my grandparents were so proud that they bought a brown, vinyl-covered, hard-shell case for me that fit it perfectly. I used it daily and often used it to play at church and for gospel concerts etc. but unfortunately in about 1979, it was stolen; and never recovered. So, I am very interested in possibly purchasing a guitar like this one, if anyone has one in good shape for sale.

pan guitar

i have a pan acoustic guitar #p-09 on inside of guitar my dad bought it new back in late 60's or early 70's for $75.00 canadian.anyone know what year it was made

Re: Pan guitar

I have a Pan electric. It is made to look like a black Les Paul with the white and black pin stripping around the edges. I've had it for 25 years. It has a neck I've never found on any other guitar and I love it. Breathe on the neck and you have a chord ? If anyone has one or knows any info let me know.

Re: Pan guitar

I also have a 6 stirng acoustic Pan, I saw one recently, almost identical made by Aria, so I think that it's
probably a copy of this company. Mine is quite old, not sure how old, sound is not bad, but some buzzing.
I've been recently thinking of selling it, but now that I''ve done some research on thses guitars and found them to
be rather rare I think I will keep it. Any more info would be appreciated.

Re: Pan guitar

I have a 1969 Trini Lopez Semi Acoustic model P-23. The guitar looks like the Trini Lopez Gibson.

I am glad to see that there are other pan lovers out there.

Re: Pan guitar

I have a Pan Custom Acoustic 6 string, Model #H-rl, Ser. # L4087 that I bought at a garage sale back in 1981. It was my primary acoustic for a lot of years. It has the identical fret and headstock inlays as an Ibanez 335 copy I just sold. When I wanted it electrified, I used an old Bill Lawrence pickup in it that I bought in 1971-72. Not the best sound, but it could be heard. Acoustically the guitar has always sounded rich, deep and full. I am listing it for sale @ $175 w/HSC. If anyone is interested, leave your email on a thread and I'll respond.

Re: Pan guitar

: I have a Semi-Acoustic Pan guitar that I am looking to find a good home for. I have no use for the instrument (it has been sitting around for years). Briefly it is a wider body with 2 "s" shaped cut-outs, sunburst finish, two black pick-ups and a tremolo tail with wooden detail on chrome. The serial number is 0197576. A sticker inside reads Pan guitars by Aria. It is in great physical condition with no gauges or cracks. The surface bears the usual scratching but could be polished back to life easily. It is missing the tremolo bar and spring as well as all 4 knobs for tone and volume. Wiring is intact, and pick-ups work great. I suspect it is long over due for its date with a good guitar technician. Probably a neck adjustment (it has a steel adjustable neck) and then resetting the bridge and intonation. Anyone interested in acquiring it or just discussing it with me can email me at marcal@mountaincable.net

Re: Pan guitar

I was wondering do you still have the guitar and of so how much do you want for it. Because I'm willing to buy it. If the price is right.

E-mail me at dkuttner@yahoo.com

Re: Pan guitar

Almost 30 years ago I bought a Pan 6 string acoustic that looks like a copy of a Martin dreadnaught at the Navy exchange in Yokosuka Japan. They had a small display of acoustic guitars and I purchased a model H590 for under $100.00. I still have it today and it looks as nice and plays like a dream. In fact I have since purchased more expensive guitars (Yamaha & Ovation) that don't have the quality and depth of sound equal to the Pan. I have never seen another Pan guitar since then. I was just looking to see if I could find out anything else about the company that made these great guitars when I came across your posting. Hope you find the Pan you are looking for.

Re: Pan guitar

I have a Pan H590 six-string. It is no Martin, but it is a fine instrument. It plays great and stays in tune. I wonder what the history of the company is.

Pan Guitar H590

I was also just recently searching for more infomation about the Pan H590, I purchased the guitar about
30 yrs ago for my brothers son from a pawn shop in Seattle...he never showed an interest so I just kept it.
Its in fantastic condition and being a long time guitarist I'm also amazed at the quality of this quitar.
I own several other acoustic guitars. Martin O18, Takamimi, Yamaha and this one is right up there.
My nephew stop by a few days ago and wanted to buy it from me and I said no. I Said lets go looking
At some pawn shops and we can find another one.....It would be great to find more info on it.

Re: Pan guitar

My wife bought used Pan H590 for me about 10 years ago. It is a sweet guitar. Like Bill says above, it stays in tune while playing and after it has been in its case for a few months. It must be one of the first examples of the Japanese wanting to prove they can build good-quality guitars at entry-level prices. A performer whose Martin or Gibson was lost in shipping would have no problem with picking up a Pan and convincing an audience that it is a high-dollar instrument.

Pan H490 acoustic guitar

I have a PAN H490 acoustic guitar and was wondering if anyone knew anything about this particular model or how much they go for or are worth. Mine was given to me by a distant relative who has since passed away and knowing him he probably picked it up at a garage sale, so I have no real background on my guitar. All I have been able to find out is that it is probably a copy of a Martin 00, but I have not been able to unearth any specifics. Any further information would be greatly appreciated!

I have no info either except they are Japanese...I have a 12-string Pan with an extremely narrow neck and it actually sounds great but hard to finger-pick due to the narrow neck.

Pan Guitar Model # H490 Made in Japan

Can someone give me some info on this guitar?

I Have A Pan Guitar!!!

If anybody knows about the Pan guitars please e-mail me and I'll send a photo..or something

Re: Pan guitar

I've got 5 Aria Pan guitars. I was instantly hooked after my first one; which was GIVEN to me by a friend when I was on the street. These are AMAZING guitars!! 4 of these 5 are over 40yrs old and they play like a dream. I would never ever buy a new guitar. Old ones have that extra something. Anyway....unfortunately I have been searching for info on these guitars for years and have never really come up with anything useful. I have a 12string and a 6 string semi-acoustic hollow body, a medium size acoustic, and a les paul copy that are all vintage. the other is a new aria pro II which actually handles itself quite well except that it eats strings. I would love to talk to another enthusiast about these guitars!! icq: 123120799

I found some info

I got this info when I inquired at the shop where I got my Pan (6 string acoustic):

Hi Laura,
Pan is the trade name of a Japanese guitar designed for import
to the USA
circa late 60's or so. Most likely it was made by one of the big
factories,
Yamaha or ibanez, I forget which. They are always copies of
something or
another, usually gibsons or martins.Vintage guitar magazine, who
has a web
page but I don't know the URL, could give you more details. They
are good
guitars, sometimes with very nice materials, that are a bargain
in good
shape. Sadly they are not exceedingly valuable, but a good one
can be a very
serviceable instrument indeed. Hope this helps.
cheers,

I just recently found the exact same guitar my mom has at a used guitar place only this one is in better shape. I got that one for $200, but it is well woth it because I love the way it plays and the shape of the neck. I am always looking for used Pans. If anoyone has one for sale acoustic or electric let me know.

Re: pan guitars

I got a 12 string acoustic Pan that is a Gibson Hummingbird replica. I spoke to a guy at Gibson, he said it was one of the niece’s replicas he had seen but neither he nor anyone else I can find has any information on it. If you have any info please pop me off an email.
Thank you for your time.

Pan guitars

I have a Pan for sale if anyone would like it. In excellent condition.......asking $200

Re: pan guitars

I have owned an played a Pan 12-string guitar for 36 years. I do not know it's manufacture date as I bought it used for $175 in 1973. I prefer 6-string to 12 so I removed the second set of strings and keys many years ago. It still plays and sounds great. I had it overhauled at a proffessional shop 15 years ago, replacing the bridge and nut with 6-sting capability. The luthier said he would take it on a proffessional tour anytime.

I'm looking for info as well. The lead guitarist for our band brought a Les Paul copy made by Pan to our last rehearsal for me to look at as I'm our resident guitar tech. The guitar has apparently been refinished and a Tune-o-matic bridge was installed rather poorly. All the hardware except the bridge is well-worn goldplate. The back control cover has a sticker which reads "PAN Modified by ALEMBIC Distributed by L. D. Heater Music Company". I'm still researching. Email me if you want more info. It's a very playable guitar and is made better than most copies I've run across.

Re: Pan guitar

20 years ago I purchased a Pan hollow body bass guitar and still have it. No change have been made on it
but a refurbishing and an adjustement of the neck. I'd like to know it's possible value and if there are
auther ones around. Thanks!

Re: Pan guitar

I have a Pan Bass that is shaped like a violin including the curl at the top. Got it froma local music store around 1976. One of the machine heads was broken at the time and another broke shortly after. We used to tune it with vice-grips. I really would love to find another for parts or find some place that sells parts for these.

Re: Pan guitar

I have a Pan semi-acoustic Bass that I also bought about 20-25 years ago. Sounds great and some other musician friends used to love to play it. I paid $50 for it from a friend who got it as a gift and didn't want it. I have no idea of a present day value and was curious as well. From what I read about Pan here I am not sure I would part with it anyway, sounds like a rare gem. I also have a Hagstrom guitar from the same era that I am researching as well.

in my price range i had to choose between a new jay turser or an older guitar like a silvertone or pan, i may still go for the jay turser if someone bids over me.

do a google search for 'pan guitar' there are a small amount of useful links that pop-up.

I've got that very guitar!

I have that exact guitar!! And it's a beauty. That one at ebay looks to be in even better condition than mine. And $125.00 is exactly what I paid for it, (CDN) I hope you get my friend. You'll love it. The only problem I had with it was the wiring in the knobs and switch.

Re: Pan guitar

I just bought an accoustic Pan that is a Gibson copy. I, too, am looking for info on this brand. Currently exploring the Google links.
