I got this info when I inquired at the shop where I got my Pan (6 string acoustic):

Hi Laura,
Pan is the trade name of a Japanese guitar designed for import
to the USA
circa late 60's or so. Most likely it was made by one of the big
factories,
Yamaha or ibanez, I forget which. They are always copies of
something or
another, usually gibsons or martins.Vintage guitar magazine, who
has a web
page but I don't know the URL, could give you more details. They
are good
guitars, sometimes with very nice materials, that are a bargain
in good
shape. Sadly they are not exceedingly valuable, but a good one
can be a very
serviceable instrument indeed. Hope this helps.
cheers,
Bill Charman,

pan guitars

:I learned to play on a six string acoustic guitarthat belonged to my mother. She bought it new in a guiter shop in the Ottawa area in 1972. She still has and plays the guitar. I now own two vintage pan guitars. One is a hollow body diamond cut out which I bought frim a friend for $60. I just recently found the exact same guitar my mom has at a used guitar place only this one is in better shape. I got that one for $200, but it is well woth it because I love the way it plays and the shape of the neck. I am always looking for used Pans. If anoyone has one for sale acoustic or electric let me know.

Re: pan guitars

I got a 12 string acoustic Pan that is a Gibson Hummingbird replica. I spoke to a guy at Gibson, he said it was one of the niece’s replicas he had seen but neither he nor anyone else I can find has any information on it. If you have any info please pop me off an email.
Thank you for your time.
