I’m looking for any RED LABEL, but especially the FG-180 and FG-300. Also I would love to have any FG-1000j, FG-1200j, FG-1500, FG-2000. Email me at [email protected] with what you have and a price. A picture would be great if you have one.

  2. Fender Coronado VII Case
    Jeff

I’ve recently pick up a beautiful 67 Fender Coronado VII in the Wildwood II colors… It really looks and plays like its brand new but I can’t find a case to fit it. the guitar is 43 inches long and 16 1/2 wide. I would love to track down an original case if possible, but would take anything at this point. Ideas???

    Thanks,

I have had my Martin F-55 since 1967. I am the second owner and would not sell it. It has such a nice sound. I had it appraised last year and was told it’s worth about $1250.

I also have a f-55 since dec. of ’61. They go for about $1500 in excellent condition. about 550 made, same for the f-50 & f-60 has DeArmond 200 single coils great pickups love mine had it since i was 13. That price is retail a much under rated guitar, great for jazz, blues, rock can sound like a gibson jazz or tele bite.

: I bought an F390S in the late 1970s (I think) for about $350. My brother owns it now and refuses to sell it back to me. You are correct about it being a copy of a Guild jumbo acoustic guitar, but I don’t know the model number. The Takamine has a beautiful, deep tone. The workmanship is beautiful as well. There were so few F390s’s sold and I never see them traded on eBay or elsewhere. I have no idea of a value estimate. Maximum value would be had from someone who actually heard and appreciated the guitar’s remarkable tone. I doubt it is a collector’s item. Good luck. Let me know if you want to sell it!

: DOES ANYONE OUT KNOW THE VALUE OF A TAKAMINE F390S? I HAVE ONE OF THESE THAT I BOUGHT 20+ YEARS AGO, BUT HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT’S WORTH TODAY. THIS IS A GREAT SOUNDING GUITAR AND JUST WOULD LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THEM. THE TAKAMINE WEB SIGHT JUST HAS THEM LISTED IN THEIR ARCHIVES. I BELIEVE THIS WAS A GUILD GUITAR COPY.

the guild it was modeled after was an “F50R” the r standing for rosewood. I used to have af50r . When it was stolen I replaced it with the takamine, which I found to be equally as good, and< if my memory serves me correctly, 1/3 the price($400v $1200). I still have my takamine and love it. Having a fret job done on it as we speak for $250. I still think it's worth it. rick

I just bought an F390 on e-bay. I thought I stole it for $560. What an absolutely unbelievable sounding guitar for that price. I’d been looking for one for almost a year and this was only the 2nd one I found offered.

I bought an upgraded 1972 version of F-390S with the large mother of pearl inlays on the fingerboard and the gold tuning machine/pegs and extra ivory for $250. I bought it out of a collection of about 350 guitars that a friend had purchased to get to a couple of 1934 Gibson Accoustics. I had Ron Pace of Pace Guitar in Houston re-fret and straighten the neck and install a top of the line internal pick-up. In all I spent an extra $650 more on this guitar. I love it. I play it every day and the sound isn’t just good; it is spectacular! I am also a pianist and violinist. I choose my instruments based on the sound and the playability. I have been offered over $2,500 for this guitar from a couple of pros but I won’t sell it. The sound is so incredible and Ron Pace did such a good job for me that I will probably pass it to my kids someday when I’m gone instead of selling it. It isn’t the dollars; it is the sound that counts. So, count yourself lucky if you have one. The sound is probably great now and it will only get better with age.

I play my EN10C and thought that was a nice sounding guitar so when I saw an add in my local paper for a Takamine I thought I would go and have a look. The guy pulls out this old style brown case and handed me this retro monster. The strings were old and light but the sound quality was evident. I paid the asking price of $800( Australian) and went straight home and put some medium elixirs on. The poor old EN10C only comes out for gigs now because in the lounge it can’t match the fullness of the F390S. Its date 12 April 1977 and hasnt been played much as the previous owner was a bass player. Its heavy but looks great and sounds awesome for the country stuff I do

[The body of this post has been reconstituted from replies so it may differ from what was originally written.]

I have a Dauphin Model 40 that was bought for me in the mid-80s. There’s a few minor scuffs: a ~1cm scratch on the body (where a string popped loose), also a scuff on the side of the neck. I can provide close-up pics of the flaws. Overall, though, this guitar is beautiful and sounds unbelievable.

I am not an expert. But I will say that my parents acquired a Multi-Kord back in the 60’s, and my mom, who I never knew as a musical person, could play it quite well. I was amazed to watch her fluidly move her fingers (one hand holding the "tone bar", and the other with finger and thumb picks, plucking the strings)over the keyboard. Apparently they had owned one before my time, so when they acquired this one, they both seemed excited. I do remember that. It had six strings, and four pedals. If I remember correctly it had two fold-out legs, and two on the other end that threaded on. The legs were brass colored, and the unit itself was woodgrain. These were mostly made between around 1948 and 1962 (not completely sure about the years, but fairly close). As far as value, I believe that the value is whatever the market will bear. I would expect to be able to buy one (vintage) that needs no repair for around $400 or so, but I found one on line that was for sale at http://halifax.kijiji.ca/c-buy-and-sell-musical-instruments-Harlin-Bros-MultiKord-1950s-Pedal-Steel-1550-W0QQAdIdZ24910921, and this one was $1550. Copy and paste that link into your browser and you may be able to find the answer to your question. I have no idea whether the one there is like yours, but it closely resembles the one my parents had–except for the finish on the stringboard itself. You may also google "multi-kord" and find more info. I personally wish I knew what became of my parents’ multi-kord. They both passed away over 20 years ago, and I am now older (57) and don’t have a clue what became of it.

    1. Re: Terada guitars
      Zyg Z

I have a beautiful Terada guitar as well that I bought new in Holland in 1976. Terada is a Japanese guitar manufacturer that made very nice copies of really good guitars, using very nice woods. My guitar is a blend of a copy of a Martin D-35 and a D-45. It has a solid Brazilian rosewood and curly maple triback and solid rosewood sides, solid spuce top and all the pearl bindings like a Martin D-45. Unlike a Martin of the 70s, it has a truss rod so the neck can be put back into playable shape when it moves. The Martin D-45 sells for about 7 grand today new, so you get the idea. I heard (rumor) Terada got sued in the lawsuit guitar era, like Greco, and stopped most of their production. They also made some great Gibson copies. They don’t sell for much on Ebay, so my advice is hang onto it and enjoy. You may have a little known gem on your hands.

: I have a very nice Terada/Jagard JD-30M guitar and would like any info on this or other Terada guitars. This guitar looks like a D-28 and really puts out a lot of good sound.

I own a Terada FW-620. It’s an extraordinary guitar! I casually bought it used in a little shop in Rome for 80 dollars (somebody had tried to repair a piece of broken pearl with Attack!!!) I just cleaned up very easily and still it sounds as a D 45 after more than
thirty years! Terada Is truly a little gem…

      Hi,
I just bought this guitar and know absolutely nothing about it except that I need a 9V plug in for it or 6 C batteries, which ever comes first I guess. I’ll know soon if it even lights up. Any luck on finding a manual or someone to share theirs?
      Peace,

      some guy

The manual may be hard to find, unless you can maybe find somebody willing to copy theirs. I’ve owned one in the past and they are not hard to operate. They are hard to find, in working shape. The membrane fingerboard tends to deteriorate in time. I’ve read everything from ozone to skin oil causing the "melting" of the fingerboard. The main advise I read was to keep corn starch on it to neutralize acids from hands.
I’ve almost had one from e-bay. It ended up going for 151.01, a penny over my bid.
Your grandson will get a charge with the autochord feature.

  9. Dauphin and Godin guitars

I recently got a bunch of guitars from a deceased friend. I’m keeping most but got two classicals. I collect/play electrics and a few acoustics.

I have an idea about the price on both and would be interested in offers.

: I bought this guitar about 26 years ago and I can’t find out any info on this guitar. It sounds great but is it worth anything?

      Hello,
I also have a EF-375S and yes! If there in good condition, They are worth the value of a Martin D28 or more pending on the ear and desire of the buyer. The ones with the split triangular rosewood backs with the diamond head stock are one of the rarest Takamines there is. The one I have is #100 of the line once owned by the famous blue grass singer Ralph Stanley and then was owned by a Indianapolis man that had a late night tv show on the weekends that showed Horror movies and he went by the TV name of Sammy Terry. My late uncle was a big gun dealer in Indianapolis and also a big Martin collector. When he died, My Aunt had us come over to sort and organize things and we went into on big room that we finally counted 572 Matin guitars and the Takamine that I presently own. My aunt was kind enough to let me have this beautiful Takamine EF-375S with all of its documentations of owners and history. These are Great guitars and would rate it against a Martin anyday. And to the Martin owners…..No offence, You have great guitars.
To answer your question Steve… I wouldnt sell mine for even 5000.00.
      Thanks.

I’ve had a 1977 Takamine F-375S (non electronic so no E) since 1983ish, which has an aftermarket Martin thinline pickup installed.
My research on the web indicates that this guitar can sell anywhere from 600 to 1400 USD$ today depending who is selling. Those selling it for the lower end often don’t seem to know much about the guitar. Those selling it at the top end are well versed in vintage instruments.
How much would mine sell for? I don’t know because it’s the only guitar that I would have a very hard time even thinking to part with as we’ve played together for nearly years now.

    Wayne McBroom

I had a friend give me a G2400 Takamine guitar. All it cost me was $13.03 for shipping & insurance. It is fully acoustic with no built in pick-up. the only number I can find on it is: 90511089. How can I tell how old the guitar is? And how much it might be worth? It is in almost mint condition & the sound & intonation is perfect, top to bottom. Just wondering what kind of treasure I may have in my hands. I love the sounds. I will be picking up some ultra-light MartinSPs for it next month, along with a couple sets of extra light Silk & Steel. Sorry to bother everyone. I’ve just never had a guitar worth more than $100.00. Wonder if I can learn to play better, on a better guitar?? Later…..

I have a late 70’s vintage Dauphin Model 20 I would rather NOT sell, but need to, to pay bills. I bought it new from my classical teacher in 1977, I believe, and have played it off and on over the years, but it is close to mint, and I kept the humisorb and humidity gauge in the (plush hardshell) case, which go with it. Also a classical style capo. The sound is wonderful, and the two-piece match back is a work of art of itself. I need $450 + ship. for it. It is an ideal guitar for a student who wants something a notch above the standard ranch fare classicals, like Yamaha. If interested, call me at 479-253-7185.

I have a Dauphin DS-10 from 1997 made in Spain, it was gift to me when I was in high school. It’s in good condition, except the pervious owner scratched it up really good with a guitar pick. The person couldn’t tell there wasnt pick guards on classical guitars, obviously. So, I move into my own apartment and I was quoting cost on all my guitars, for insurance purposes and I found out quickly, THERE IS NO DAUPHIN GUITAR GUIDES OR DEALERS ON THE INTERNET (That I can find) The guitar is so awesome, and I WANT to own more Dauphins, because of its crisp and clear sound. Where can I get a Price Guide for Dauphins or even a catalog of instruments? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had never heard of Dauphin guitars until I ran across one in a very nice hard-shell case at a garage sale. I am totally amazed at the beauty and sound quality of this instrument; so I’ve done a little research but still don’t really know how much it might be worth. I think I may have pinned it down to somewhere between $240 and $2,000. All the info I can find is the label inside which states, “Dauphin fine classic guitars. Model 12. Japan.” I can’t find a serial number or any indication of when it was made. Whatever it’s value, I’ll consider it the best $5 garage sale purchase I’ve ever made. Would be interesting to know just how good a buy I really got! Any ideas?

I bought a Dauphin model 12 new around 1983 and paid about $300 for it at the time. The 12 was a lower-end student model in their line. The music store where I bought it told me it was comparable to the Yamaha guitars of the period; made in Japan but on the specs of a luthier from southern Illinois. I still have it and play it; it’s held up well.

      7. Some history on Dauhpin
        bmsbob

I should have copied the website I found some info on the Japan made Dauphin model 40 I have. I can tell you from memory (back to 02′ when I bought my mine 2nd hand via the web on some random forum) what I remember from that website which seemed very legit and informative. The company Dauphin was started a long long time ago like around 150 years go. The Japanese factory never moved location and all the operations were done on the family’s land which is in a small village in some mountainous part of Japan. I wish I could remember the name of the village and the last name of the owners it started with a Y (the owner I think or maybe the town my memory not that hot :P. I say 150 as a guess because this company passed it’s knowledge and craftsmanship from father luthier to son luthier for 4 or 5 generations. The last son had no male heir to carry on the legacy of their guitar making and in the early 80’s i think it was 83′ or 84′ he shut down the family business at the ripe old age of 102 and sold the company (ie the name really) to a some guy in Spain. Apparently these guy that owned this Japanese company had some super genetics going for them in their favor. All of them lived over 88 years of age and the oldest one lived till he was 105. Apparently all of them were still actively involved making the guitars up until the they day they died.

Not that you would ever get such info but the website I got all this info from back then was saying that if the mastery luither the main male family member that owned the company even touched your guitar it’s value alone would be dramatically increase but if he built it from start to finish they were saying the guitar could be worth 2-3k more.

Now not piss off all you owners of the Spanish but the Spain owned company only lasted a few years 8 or 10 more than i few i guess but compared to the legacy the was Dauphin it was nothing. I have heard from many people that when the Spanish company first started making them were good not guitars, not on par with original makers but comparable at least. After like 2-3 of the Spanish company decided to cut costs to increase their profit margin and the quality went down even further ie. they bought a name Dauphin and milked that name. This not what I know from playing them just what I hard in a very well down mid – 90’s style website I found in 03′ after browsing many bullshit web pages for info. The decline in the craftsmanship hurt Dauphin’s name to the point to where they closed their doors for good and sold their factory to a furniture making company.

I did some looking around found this site http://www.sugitakenji.com/en/features/index.html
I seems like this guy worked for Dauphin at some point under the guy whose name started with a Y i couldn’t remember Yukinobu Chai. Their main location was in Osaka Japan but I believe it all started in a small village near that city in the mountains. For the record I don’t play much at all any more my skills have gone down to so much it’s sad but to this day I will not sell mine. I feel like a not only a fine piece of Japanese history but also a very well crafted guitar. I have an emotional attachment to it as it was my first guitar to buy and I used to carry it everywhere and called it my baby. If I die before my brother I will make sure he gets it he has been trying to borrow / buy it from me for last 6 years. Anyway I hope that helps not sure you guys wanted an essay on the history. Sure I probably got some stuff wrong there. I’d love more solid information or facts maybe just to back up what a read so long ago make me feel like my decision to not sell when I had a 600 dollar offer from a really good classical musician that used my student model guitar to record 2 albums while he saved up to replace his that only one that stolen.

If you want more info best place I can say is maybe contact the guy from http://www.sugitakenji.com/en/features/index.html and ask him. Who knows if he can help you since it won’t generate him any $ for info but who knows. Seems like a good guy most modern day Japanese really are noble and honorable people.

I was a classical guitar major at Interlochen Arts Academy and this was my guitar.
The Dauphin 25D guitar is in great shape, still sounds beautiful has a small ding on the body but it doesn’t effect the sound at all. Comes with a lined hard case that is in great shape.
She needs a good home! Any offers?
Leave a comment and it will be sent to my email.

I’ve had one for 25-30 years. I used it when I was studying classical. It is a wonderful guitar that projects loudly and sounds great. I have so many others that I play more often. I’ve keep this in it case mostly breaking it out playing from time to time. It’s in mint condition…not a mark on it.

      Hey :

I just came across one @ an estate sale – seems to be in A-1 working order… it operates w/batteries or hooked up to an amp… nifty tones – verrry ’80ish…
Does have softcase and owners manual… the only downside is the absence of the tremelo/whammy bar… lemme know if youre interested; and btw, it did not come cheap…

        Robert Littlefield

I’ve owned one since 1975 and in all that time I’ve never seen another one and none of the "experts" I’ve consulted can tell me anything about it. I paid $50 for it. I would never sell mine though because it still has a great tone and perfect action.

I don’t know the value of this particular model, but I am interested and would love to see some pics if you have any. I am looking to buy a Terada very soon.

I would also be interested in seeing a pic on this guitar and maybe making an offer. Terada made a wide variety of guitars. Some were pretty nice and some were not quite so nice. I am unfamiliar with your model.

: : Have you decided how much you are asking for this guitar?
: I would like more details about it also.

i got this guitar from a friend in either 1979 or 1980. i know they bought it new and it has not been played much.(barely broke in)
serial number is 211072 inspected by m.terada and made in japan..6string with 20 fret. 25" scale with original case. which is in excellent condition(both) according to blue book and ratings i would say this guitar would be between 95% to 98%! this is one sweet sounding guitar and maintains its tune wonderfully…i am in the market to sell and was wondering if anyone would know the value or a guesstamate……thanks

      2. Terada HM 819 guitar
        Wim Schrijvershof

Hello, I bought my Terada HM 819 guitar in 1984 in a 2nd hand shop, for ƒ 175,00. I have more guitars, but no other one can reach this guitar. I’m wondering about the quality, however I’ve used this guitar for more than 22 years now, I took it everywhere. I’d played also the first song for my girlfriend on it…. very wonderful guitar. Greetings, Wim
