I have had my 174 since about 1972 or 73; it was a bit over $300 new. My guess is yours is from around the same period and may be worth about that if in reasonably good shape. Just a guess.

Ben – not sure if anyone answered you, but your "GG-10" is a GOYA-GRECO vintage guitar, circa 1970 or so, when they joined companies. Hope that helps. Right after that, I think 1972, Martin took over, so you have one before that, and after the Levin era.

A CF Martin branded Goya is made in Japan or Korea depending on the year. None were ever USA made. The resale value is low as these are cheap, student grade instrumentd.

      1. Goya G 316 by Martin
        Anonymous

My Goya G 316 totally rocks, bring on your American made Martin and see if it can compare! It’s handmade, solid spruce top with stunning , rich tone!! Yes, I’m a pro too, and I also own a vintage Martin. Any good guitar player can make even a cheap guitar sound good, but I have met too many guitar snobs with $5,000.00 guitars that often suck in tone and not to mention these starnge people don’t even know how to play their snob appeal guitars!
To answer the question, what’s it worth….I say, what’s it worth too you?

  7. Help on repairing a 1948 Goya F-11
    Collin Hoffman

I love this guitar and play it to death however the bridge is starting to get cut by the strings at the base of the pin set. Is there anyway that any of you know of to stop further damage? I really don’t want to replace the bridge, i’m afraid it may damage the intonation. Anyone had this problem with one of your instruments?

    Thank you.

    1. Re: Help on repairing a 1948 Goya F-11
      Magnus Hultin

I wouldn´t worry to much. It is not unusual on older guitars as the saddlebone is adjusted lower and lower. he strings simply get to low angle and cuts through the bridge a little bit. Without having seen this particular case i´d say it could even improve the sound of your guitar to carve with a fine tool to create a "canal" for the string so the force from the string on the saddlebone is harder. For further info go to http://www.frets.com, where You can see pictures on how to do.

By the way, There is no such thing as a 1948 Goya. The Goya brand was started by Guitars of Sweden in 1952/1953 to have a sellable brand for the american market. For further info go to http://www.goyaguitars.com.

      Best regards Magnus, Gothenburg Sweden

  11. Considering selling a Goya Rangemaster (Italy)
    Steve

I thought I would let Goya-fans know that I’m contemplating putting a Rangemaster up for sale on Ebay soon. The hesitation is that I do like the guitar quite a bit, but like everyone else, I always find others that I like as much or more…and so turn over the cash into a new project. I’m sure you know the feeling. I’ll post a good description and pictures on Ebay (under the name ARANDARICE) before too long, but the guitar is in very nice condition, solid green in color, all original, made in Italy, no case. Extremely playable and looks great. As for price…I’m not sure what to expect, but I will probably start the auction at $100.00. That’s it for now. email: [email protected]

  12. Goya String Guitar
    Nancy Gatlin

I have acquired a Goya 6 string guitar. Model #2 Serial #29895 – Made in Sweden. Label still on inside of guitar. It is a beautiful dark stained wood with a natural finish (not clear coat) Something is stamped on the wood on the inside but it’s to small to make out. It is not is prefect condition the face plate is missing. However the guitar itslef is in great condition. I also have the carrying case that has printed on it Goya "the finest is guitars".

I was curious about it’s value, if any!

Any input you can push my way?

    Thanks, Nancy

    1. Goya Guitar
      Andrew

I have a Goya Model G-20 or something then a 0. The first number is scratched out pretty well on it. The serial number is 387068 and it says it is made by A.B. Herman Carlson Levin- Gothenburg, Sweden. It has not been tuned but sounds nice. It has some crazing on the front . The neck looks great. There is some drying out of it due to the arid climate here most likely. I am curious as to any more information on it I can find and would consider selling it as well. I can send pictures if you can help identify it or are interested in it.

Goya mandolins were made over seas. the better goya mandolins were made by Martin co. they are valued in good condition starting at $200 and up. As long as your mandolin is complete and affiliated with Martin Co. you got a good deal.

      1. Goya Les Paul! I know it's an old post but anyone out there?
        Drew

I have a Les Paul Deluxe copy that I have narrowed down to be a Goya, based on the shape of the headstock. SN on the back is E486XX. The last two could be 37 or 32, not sure, the stamp was hit light on that side and didn’t indent far enough. This is a dead ringer for a 72-74 Les Paul Deluxe with mini humbuckers and “goof rings”. I found one similar online with a similar SN, seller said it was a Martin/Goya made at Matsumoku in the early 70s.

It has a tobacco sunburts finish. No name on the headstock because it was made so much like the real Les Paul that the weak spot cracked at the neck volute and had been repaired at some point. A book matched veneer replaced the original headstock top, which I guess had been damaged from the crack. Set neck, beautiful guitar. Just looking for more info out there from anyone who might own one similar or know more about them.

I’ve played real Les Pauls and believe it or not this thing plays a hell of a lot better.

      2. Goya Les Paul deluxe
        Daniel Krampf

That’s a fine Japanese copy dating from about circa 1977. They were excellent one piece copies that rival the best Gibson builds today. The factory is believed to have been Matsumoku. Martin distribution in the USA .Current value around $500-675

I too have a 1957 G-25. The G-25 has a beautiful reddish-brown finish; it’s my next favorite Goya finish after the G-30’s natural finish. However, for some reason, the G-25 neck is much chunkier and rounder (think a baseball bat cut in half) than the late ’50s G-30, G-20, G-17, or G-12 (which might explain why 1957 was the last year Goya sold the G-25).

If you’re interested, I have a 1959 G-30 or an early ’70s GG-30 that I might be talked into selling.

  17. Goya G320SB Made in Japan for Martin
    Colin

I just bought a used Japanese Goya G320SB in St. Petersburg, FL. It is in great condition and sounds wonderful. It has a beautiful cherry sunburst top which is spruce (bookmatched solid) and mahogany sides. The voice is bright and loud….perfect for lead, less so for strumming. It has a vee neck which is comfortable for me and good action. I installed Martin XL strings. Very nice guitar.

I think it was made in Nagoya in Japan, possibly by a company called Terada for CF Martin.

Been a while, but I’d be interested too if you still have. I had a G-20, new in the early 1960s, but sold it in the 1970s for a sports car I HAD to have. The car died but the G-20 is probably still cherished by someone. The retail in the early 60s was about $200, though I recall buying mine wholesale for around $135.00. It’s a solid wood guitar with an aluminum rod in the neck. Low and easy action. Don’t what the value is now, but it is at least worth what I paid originally, probably a bit more.

I have a friend who recently bought a Goya model G500EU acoustic guitar with electronic pickup. The color is navy blue and it is in excellent condition. There are some surface scratches, but they can only be seen when the instrument is held up to the light. He asked me to see if I could find any information about it, but I have been unable to find any information on this model anywhere so far. I thought I’d take a chance and see if anyone is familiar with it, as I am not.

  21. Goya Model G-10 Value? Selling Tips?
    Brad Lewis

I have a Goya G-10 (s/n 188009) in good condition that I am considering selling.

Does anyone have any idea what a fair price might be?

Also does anyone have any suggestions about the best way to sell it (i.e. e-Bay, local newspaper, this web-site…).

    Thanks…

The G-10 has a solid spruce top with a 3-ply birch back/sides. In good condition, they go for $250-300 or so on eBay. Gruhn Guitars has one for $400 that he has been trying to sell for months — that might be too high.

: Could you please tell me the year and Price of my Guitar. Thank you, Edna

Hi, I have one very close to that serial number, I don’t remember exactly but it’s at about 140,000. I paid $175 with the hard case for mine in a used stuff store, consignment sale. I think is must be worth more. Somebody said these things go back to 1942. I’m sure mine is pretty old. I can’t fine much on it. But I do know I like it and is puts out great bass and it’s curved back plate? That’s nice. And the checked finish, like an old piano. and those tuner pegs, almost antique carving and the metal shield on the side of the pegs, with the music scroll on top. Isn’t it neat? Did you get any other comments?

      Sincerely, Art Noxon

I have come across a G-10 Nylon string guitar and wonder if it is worth anything. It has some cracking in the finish on the top but is in excellent shape otherwise. The serial number is 320152 and I think it was made in the 50’s….54 to be exact, but don’t know for sure. If anyone has any info, or is interested in taking it off my hands, contact me. Thanks.

Have you had any luck figuring out what your G-10 is worth? I have a similar G-10 that I am considering selling, but am trying to figure a fair price.

      Thanks

: I was given this guitar. Does anyone know the age of it? it’s worth?

I owned one as a young folk singer back in 1958 or ’59. It cost about $350 then, which was fairly high (about equivalent to Martin’s D-28 at the time. I have seen lesser models sold for over $1,000.

      A DeClemente

According to http://www.whitetreeaz.com/vintage/goya.htm, serial number 378729 was produced in 1958. According to http://www.goyaguitars.tripod.com/goya_catalogs.htm, the list price of a G-30 was $435 in their 1965 catalog. (If I recall correctly, experienced aeronautical engineers earned less than $10,000 per year in 1965…so, $435 was a lot of money for a guitar).

My cousin had a G-30 back then. I thought it was the most wonderful thing I’d ever played. I’ve never seen one since. What condition is yours in?

I recently came into a collection of instruments to sell and amongst them was this goya the only puzzling thing to me was that the serial #on the Neck Block inside the guitar was a Takamine serial #. It literally said "Takamine serial#780 23168" The prodution date is Feb 18/1978. Any Info and a price value would be greatly appreciated.
