I recently came into a collection of instruments to sell and amongst them was this goya the only puzzling thing to me was that the serial #on the Neck Block inside the guitar was a Takamine serial #. It literally said "Takamine serial#780 23168" The prodution date is Feb 18/1978. Any Info and a price value would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, this is my first guitar. I’ve had it for a few years, and I was wondering if anyone had some info on it. It’s an odd model. It’s a smaller size, and I just don’t know much about it. Please help!!

Hello! I have the same model of Goya. I have been trying to find some information about it. If you have some info, could you please contact me. I am trying to find out how much it is worth. Thanks.

I purchased the same GOYA by C. F. Martin in good condition for $100.00 had thee nut modified installed new strings, still rough to cord, sounds really good. I have no idea about the age or actual worth the guy that worked the nut stated it is a $100 Guitar.

  3. G10 Goya Guitar
    Garret

I have recieved a Goya G10 guitar as a gift. Am looking for info and value for this excellent conditioned instrument. It is SN# 168070
(1959 to 1963) Goya Guitars Inc., New York 10 N.Y. Made in Sweden. Your assistance is much appreciated!

    1. Value Goya G10 Guitar
      Richard

I have owned a G10 since early 60s and played many a concert with it, even though it is reportedly a “good” student guiter. I always found the rich fullness of the tone most agreeable. I am not familiar with serials numbers as low as yours – the original Goyas didn’t start production until around 1952 and they shared serial numbers before that with Levin Guitars (same company). 1959 model serial numbers normally started at 384906 and 1963 ended wtih 438472. As with most items the condition will play a big part of its condition. If it is in excellent condition with a bare minimum of crazing of the varnish and the fingerboard/neck is straight and it has its original polished brass tuning gears and “ivory plastic” buttons are original you could expect anywhere from $300-400. I would agree that that seems very low, particularly since the subsequent Goyas were made by Martin (bought the company in early 1970s) and had them made in Japan. They were not the quality of the older Swedish made Goyas. Hope this was helpful. On a side note I wouldn’t take less than $750 if somebody talked me out of the Goya.

              1. Goya Greco Gr-12
                Anonymous

Just bought a flaming top classical guitar from guitar shop here in the West.
Has 19 frets, single pearloid dots on frets 3,5,7,9, double dots on fret 12.
                Rosewood bridge and fretboard.
Has number “44-45-528” stamped on top of open headstock.
Has big label in sound hole area that has model no. printed GR-2 or Gr-9, the printed 2 or 9 is overwritten by the handwritten number 1 followed by handwritten number 2 so it looks like 12.
The serial number is also handwritten and says “42-528”.
The label says: “Greco”, “Created expressly for, HERSHMAN MUSICAL INSTRUMENT CO., INC.”, “by GOYA GUITARS, INC.”
A second very small label underneath says: “SWEDEN”.
Beneath second label is a silver seal with yellow center that says: “Made in Sweden”.

I’m guessing it’s made by Levine as commissioned by Hershman, maybe in late 1958 before 1960 as a prototype? Can anyone give a better insight?

I own a Greco Model GR120k Serial #29902 I have no idea what it’s value may be. I know is basically the same as the GR120 but with better hardware, fittings, quality and sound.

Its a really great guitar. I own a GR-121 and I play on it all the time. It’s sounds awesome!! I own several nylon string guitars and this one even tough its not really considered an high end guitar its sounds absolutely amazing. And also great playability and comfort. Really great guitar. you gonna enjoy it.

            Fredi

I can tell you that my GR 120 was purchased new about 1970-71.
I would assume it was made withinafew years of that date. At that time if I remember correctly I paid somewhere in the neighborhood of $250+. No idea what they go for today, but it still sounds great.

Nope, it may not be a fake. From my earlier post, I mentioned that I have a Goya Model G320SB, S/N G8307, purchased in 1978. So yours would have been made about the same time late 1978/79.

: Goya steel string dreadnaught T-18, serial number 241007, manufactured before 1963, purchased new in 1965. Original owner, original neck tag, original case. Straight neck, no wood cracks, some surface crazing of the finish, normal wear, no buzzes, plays beautifully. I am considering selling the guitar here or on ebay. I have photos available in jpeg format. Is anybody interested?

I could be interested, all depends on the price. Has it got enough vloume to play in a Bluegrass Band?

I have an acoustic goya G 320. My father ended up getting as a birthday gift from my mother. His guitarist at the time picked it out for him. s/n G82419, made in Japan.

The pick guard is aswell, a very unusual shape. They bought in Far North Queensland, Australia in I believe the late 70’s, early 80’s. I am getting it cleaned up and giving my cort to my father. I started on the Goya and I just can’t find the same tone anywhere. More so, the feel of the Goya. It’s just so smooth to play. No 3rd fret inlay aswell. This guitar to me is priceless.

I just bought a used Japanese Goya G320SB in St. Petersburg, FL. It is in great condition and sounds wonderful. It has a beautiful cherry sunburst top which is spruce (bookmatched solid) and mahogany sides. The voice is bright and loud….perfect for lead, less so for strumming.

I think it was made in Nagoya in Japan, possibly by a company called Terada for CF Martin.

Yes I bought one on Ebay. I thought it was made by Martin. It looks great, and the seller covered the made in korea printing. Frankly it is piece of junk. The top is not solid spruce , but plywood. I paid 250 for the I bought, worth about $2.50

      3. Martin Goya G 300
        Jon Daire

I have a g 300 and I’ve been playing it for about 20 years. I love it! I think the fretboard is mahogany dyed black. It’s got a good sound. After about 15 years I had to replace the 3-in-1 tuners. I widened the holes slightly and installed gold Grover tuners. I use Martin medium strings (.13 – .56) and usually pluck it with a light Dunlop pick. In spite of the thick strings, the spruce top has warped upwards only slightly and the intonation is nearly perfect up and across the fretboard.

        Anonymous

I also have a Goya, not sure of the model, I bought from Martin. Some time ago, in the 70’s I beleive, Martin bought out the Goya inventory and or the name. They didn’t make the guitars. The one I have is that old now, and sounds fantastic. I have a couple Martins, and this one isn’t made like them for sure, but it plays great and has a deep rich tone. I think I paid Martin around $250 or maybe a bit mmore for it, with a case. A great buy. Send an e-mail to Dick Boak at Martin, he is their history buff.

        Hi,

I know this is an old posting but did you ever get a reply to your question about the Goya guitar? I have come across a similar one (modello 104) manufactured by Francisco Esteve Guitarras but sold by Juan Teijeiro Music Co., judging by the label which is exactly as you describe.

Any info you can pass on will be appreciated.

          Hi,
I saw your posting only recently. I can tell you that I own, what sounds like, the very same classical guitar. My model number (written in hand) is 8. I bought it brand new in 1992 for about £150. I still play it now and it does have a distinctive sound although I do not know what wood it is made from. I don’t think that it is completely laminate, I don’t know. Hope that helps.

I have also have one its Juan Teijeiro Fiesta and handwritten says ‘Modelo 1’ I too would love to know more about it. It belongs to my wife who has had it for twenty years, aquired second hand by her father.

The sound is amazing and I have never bought another to equal it, try as I might. The website for Juan says they are hand made.

As for value I have no idea

  7. GOya Guitar - TS 4 Model

  8. Goya G-10 (1959-63) SN 193S49
    Jody

    Hi there-

I have this Goya G-10 which was apparently manufactured sometime between 1959 and 1963. It is in greqat condition, save for finish issues to the bottom left of the soundhole (Where fingers normally rest) really no big deal. It is all orignial and even has the original chipboard Goya case (now falling apart).

Does anyone have any idea ofhte value of this guitar? I am thinking about selling it sometime soon and want to figure this out.

    Thanks,
    -Jody

        : : : I also have a Goya G330S, w/ ser# 95050081.
I’ve seen two others sold on two different Guitar sites for $750 and $790. I wouldn’t sell mine for twice that! It’s basicly the same construction as a D-35 with an equal sound. I bought mine new in 1994 and it is still flawless, but I do of course put a set of new Martin strings on it annually.
        Best of luck!

: : : I also have a Goya G330S, w/ ser# 95050016. The only research that turns up anything is the ‘Orion Blue Book’. Your local music store will have one. That’s what they use to appraise instruments. Anyway, your guitar used and in good shape will retail used for around $264.00 USD. The construction is rosewood back and sides (solid or laminate isn’t stated) and a solid spruce top, most likely sitka and not engleman. The G330S was available from 1994 – 1997. In my opinion, these guitars are worth well more than many high end Alvarez and Takamines which are also made in Korea, but cost up to three times as much as the Goyas. Don’t you just love the slight v-shape on the neck?

  10. WARNING ABOUT LOCKSLEY "GOYA" SERIAL NUMBER LIST
    Jack Walsh

    Dear Goya Guitar fans,

Do not use the Locksley serial number list to date the year of your Goya guitar unless the label says, "Made by
A.B. Herman Carlson Levin, Gothenburg, Sweden." The earliest year for a Goya brand guitar is 1952 (the year that the
Hershman Musical Instrument Company of New York acquired the distribution rights from Levin). If your label has a
"zoning code" of 10 as in New York 10 N.Y. then your guitar was made between 1959 to 1963. If it has a "zip code" of
10010 as in New York N.Y. 10010 your guitar was made after 1962 (zip codes came out in mid 1963). For more

I was in my room earlier on my bed sleeping with my trip pants and trenchcoat still on… and then my uncle mike walks in the room and throws this big ol’ guitar case at me and I was like "You’re joking right?" And he grinned and walked out and I got online right away to see if I could find some info about it’s age and worth. It’s the same model as urs, but he said he got it from someones front lawn garage sale for 15 dollars. Some people, I have heard have sold off antiques at their garage sales without knowing it, and people buying them for like, 2 dollars and getting filthy rich!!!
eh, it has some little scratches like it was used a whole lot but it’s not scratched like its been cracked over some dude’s head wearing too much spiking gell, and it was dusty like it had been in someones attic for a while. We found some white crusty little thingies on the side and when I put water on it it was superglue cause it turned clear and then white again O_O ….This strap that came attatched to it reminds me of my great- grandpa’s suspenders… heheh. I like the stripey, goldenrod/peanutbutter collored wood on the front. The first thing I did was drop the pick in the sound hole… oh, man!

The G-17 was an early 60’s model preoduced in Sweden which originally listed for about 195.00 I owned one then and I still own one, but my current one needs repair. There is a ton of info available about Goys in Geneal and some on the G-17 at Goyaguitars.com

Just saw your note today (7/5/02). I bought my Goya F11 in 1962 for about $150. It’s a lovely guitar, with mellow tones. The fret board is a bit wide, but I learned to play on it (laughingly speaking). In checking Ebay, they seem to sell at about the same price and are regarded as a decent guitar for the money. Mind you, they’re not a Martin, but the tone is nice and the action as well. Mine
cracked in the New York winter in 1968, but I still have it and it still sounds the same! Hope this gives you a bit more information.

My brother bought a Goya F-11 in 1960 or 1961 for $119.50. I’ve had the guitar since about 1966. Its top is cracked, too, and has lifted up off the body very slightly. but it doesn’t seem to affect the sound quality. The neck is warped some, which, coupled with the width of the neck, makes it a little hard to play, especially up on the neck. The guitar isn’t a big money item, and I’m a good wood mechanic, so I’m going to clamp it down to a bench when the weather warms up and see if I can straighten it out. I’ve fixed cracked tops before by gluing and clamping without doing any damage.

I purchaced a goya G 318C in ’96. the conidtion is still excellent. The travel from the strings to the fret board is a bit high, so it makes it awkward to to bar coards. Im not too sure the year, but i was wondrin how much this guitar might be able to sell for?
