: I have a G120 model and am wondering if anyone knows the value? Thanks.

Depends so much on the condition. If it’s in really great condition, about $450 to $500 would be fair. These were made by C.F. Martin Co., so you know they’re good. Mahogany back and sides, Rosewood fingerboard. Good action, good tone.

The Goya G 120 sold in the late seventies for $395 dollars, which in today’s dollars would be equivalent to about $600 dollars.

      becky sublette

: anybody can tell me about goya m-10. No I cannot.

CAN ANYONE TELL ME ABOUT A GOYA (by Martin) made in Taiwan,
MODEL G-4 dreadnaught. I have had it for years. I would like to know the year it was made, and
what woods/or laminates it is made from and how it compares in sound to other newer guitars such as seagull artist mosaic series and low end martins. This guitar of mine split open about 3 inches at top back seam, and husband fixed it.
I was not that careful with it and it has dings in it. It has been a good guitar for me—but i am looking to upgrade to cutaway/acoustic /electric.

      thanks for your help

I have a Goya model G 518. I was wondering if anyone has an idea as to what year it was made and what kind of wood it is, and what it might be worth ? I think it is Rosewood but can’t be sure. There dosen’t seem to be a serial number (that I can find) anywhere. Thanks for any input of any kind.

  7. Truss Rod Adjustment
    Brian C

I was wondering if someone might know the truss rod nut size for a Goya G-163- 1974. Also any tips for reaching the nut in headstock- the slot is not sloped so it looks tricky- I am assuming there is a specialized tool out there- because it looks like some of the standard truss rod wrenches may not fit- Thanks in advance!

    1. Re: Truss Rod Adjustment
      Magnus H

It was a 7 mm special tool, which had a slot in the rear end to work on the plastic saddle screws in the bridge.

For the trussrod, I use a 7 mm wrench, u-shaped in one end and "ring-shaped" in the other.

  9. Goya MODEL G500E N
    Nick Archer

I have a Goya electric acoustic Model G500E N made in Korea. Anyone know anything about this guitar? I’m curious to know what types of wood it’s made from. Sides and neck look like mahogany, back is 2-piece, could be mahogany too. Beautiful grain. I’m not sure top is Spruce, and may be veneered wood. Sounds and looks beautiful, though. Anyone?

    1. Re: N22 tuner parts
      Magnus H

You should look for van ghent tuners. The were used by many guitar manufacturers in the 60:s and 70:s. Some of the parts are the same even if the outline of the complete tuner looks differrent.

    1. Re: Goya G-17
      Bob Brennan

I have a G-17 with a serial number of 353512 (0) which I purchased in 1967. Must have come off the production line pretty close to each other. My label also has a stamp of "serviced by E" and it has never been in a repair shop. I suspect it is something from the original production.

    2. Re: Goya G-17
      Wouter

The Serial Number 353510 is one of the last 6-digit Serial Numbers used for Levin made Goya guitars, before the had to switch over to 7-digit Serial Numbers. This was around 1967, when they anticipated a huge increase in guitar sales, promised by AVNET who took the sales over from Hershman.

      1. Re: Goya G-17
        Norm Taylor

My Goya has Elephant Tusk saddle and nut and the serial number is 102323. Any Idea how old this is as I know Elephant Tusks became illeagle in the late 50’s or early 60’s.

    3. Re: This popular thread has been given its own page :... Katherine
      Katherine

I recently bought a Goya model G-17. The label says Goya Guitars Inc., New York NY 10010. Also says Made in Sweden. The serial number printed on the label is 353510, but there is a handwritten zero added to the printed number. A stamp that says "serviced by 3" is on the label. The tuning mechanism on one side has been replaced, which might explain the "serviced by 3" that is stamped on the label. I find Levin serial number lists online that might indicate that it was made in 1957 (going by the printed number). But I’m not sure about that. The guitar clearly has had a life–it has some dings here and there, but it is in decent shape overall and sounds beautiful. Any info would be appreciated.

  10. Goya GA430
    Ian Hurley

Hello, I have a Goya GA430, serial No. 78023354 with a manufacture stamp of 28-02-1978, could anybody shed a little history on it please, any information would be excellent. I have had this guitar for 6 years and it hasn’t let me down yet, I just can’t seem to find any info about this model, the only bit I did find was for a 12 string, which mine isn’t. I’d be most grateful if someone could find the time to respond, thanks.

  11. Goya GG 17 #51795
    Mike Wrobel

Can anyone tell me the difference between a G-17 and a GG 17. Mine does have the handwritten serial number 51795. I’m looking for age and worth. It was given to me by a relative.

      1. Re: This popular thread has been given its own page :... Magnus H
        Magnus H

I would say there is no significant difference in the appearance of the guitar itself, it is only another model marking. Initially the model was called G-17, and I think it was when the distribution was overtaken by amp manufacturer Kustom Electric in 1969/70 the models changed to GG. The equivalent Levin model was LG-17 ("Levin Guitar model 17"…) and it may have been an adaption to this.

Your Guitar, based on the number, is from the Dude era, 1972 – 1976, but it is possible that these instruments were manufactured in the Levin factory during the Kustom era, and overtaken by Dude after the Kustom bankrupcy.

The GG-17 was Alp spruce solid top, Solid mahogany sides and bottom, 3 piece Rosewood neck (maple centerpiece). The GG-17 was gloss polished whereas the LG-17 was matte.

        1. I’m looking to possible buy a goya gg17 off a friend…Does anybody know what the guitar is worth? The guitar is in very good condition ,needs to be adjusted ,with case…thanks

  12. Restore or sell? G-10 ser#133939
    W.E.

I have a Goya G-10 that was purchased in 1963 in Seattle. It’s been in two foreign countries and quite a few US States. On the front and back of the bottom half of the guitar the finish has vertical striations and it feels as if the veneer might be lifting. At the least it’s uneven. It doesn’t look too bad, I love the guitar and it still plays with a wonderful sound even though I don’t play it much anymore. I assume it could be fixed, but is it worth restoring? Does it have any value as is? I was thinking of possibly keeping it for my granddaughter.

    1. Re: Question about Goya/Levin Classic 11 with
      Wouter

The dark brown wood is Walnut. This guitar is definitely made in Sweden. Unfortunatly the "the Special Sound"-series doesn’t have serial numbers.
Perhaps one of the original co-workers of the Levin factory in Sweden could make an estimate of the (few) numbers that were made of this guitar.

      1. Re: Question about Goya/Levin Classic 11 with
        Kris

Thanks for this info. I just bought a Classic 11 on eBay. It’s just like my old one. Any idea how I might contact one of the Levin factory workers? Since these guitars were made some 35 years ago, I don’t know how I would track any of the original workers down.

        1. Re: Question about Goya/Levin Classic 11 with
          Magnus H

          Kris,

I happen to know a guy who stayed with Levin until the bitter end, and as a matter of fact he built one of the last Classic 11 himself in 1982(he still owns it).

If You drop me a mail with some hints on exactly what You want from him, I can forward it and he might contact You.

      Kris

Does anyone know how many of these guitars were made with the dark brown wooden tuning pegs and matte/satin finish? Also, where was this one made? There’s no serial number on the label inside. All it says is "Model no. Classic 11," "Levin," and a round circular stamp that says "The Special Sound." I think it was made in 1970-72, but not certain. Thanks!

    1. Re: Goya guitar N-24 S#382356
      Magnus H

What You have is probably a model M-24.
It is a 1958, and there is one upfor auction on Ebay right now. My guess is 300-600$
The serial number indicates manufacturing year 1958, all M-24 were made in the late 50:s and they carry serial numbers from the Levin serial list.

  13. 1958 Goya S18 Value?
    Mark W Bentley

Looking for the value of a 1958 Goya S18. This one seems rare to me. Ive found a few other pictures of them. The one I have has the "levin" name on the truss rod cover. The ones ive seen online just have the plain black truss rod covers.

    1. Re: 1958 Goya S18 Value?
      Magnus H

      My guess would be 500 – 800$
The S-18 was replaced by the T-18 in 1965. Some have the Levin cover, some have black, some have red….

A G-9, probably a previous model of G-10 3/4 (identical specs) sold on ebay for over $300 with original case. It was near mint condition. The 3/4 size is rare.

It makes sense Wouter, and it makes me curious.
I was aware of models GG4, GG5, GG7, GG10, all corresponding to earlier Goya and Levin models.

I have never seen a GG9 however, and I wouldn´t know what type of guitar it would be.

Is it a flattop or a Classical (nylonstrung)?

I bought a small Goya used after 1972. It has a maple looking top, dark grained wood sides and back. I changed out the steel strings for nylon – teacher’s instructions, and used it to take folk guitar lessons. Except for a few dings and glazed finish on the maple, it is in good condition. I’d like to know the value of it to determine what I’ll do with it. Thanks

I can’t afford a Ramirez 1a, but I love my Goya G-13; so it is my dream to get a G-20 or better if anyone has one for sale at a price I can afford. Action must be standard for classical 3mm at 12th for hi E string and no damage to guitar; guitar should be in excellent condition except for the usual crackling in the finish. Please contact me at [email protected], if you have any of the above and let me know what you would be willing to sell it for. You would be doing a struggling classical guitarist a favor if you do.

  20. Mint Goya 1971 G-30
    Blacky

    Hi,
My girlfriend’s father bought a new Goya in the early seventies. According to the list of serial numbers at http://goyaguitars.tripod.com/goya_serial_no.htm
it was made in 1971. He took a few lessons when he got it, but gave up and put it in the closet. He has arthritis in his hands now and has decided he’ll never be able to play it, so has decided to sell it. The finish and hardware are perfect. I’m not a gut string player–all my guitars, acoustic and electric, have steel strings–but it seems to play beautifully. Nice full balanced tone. The neck is straight, the top flat, the action low with no buzz. Braces and bridge seem fine. Guitar and case are mint. This really could be sold as a new guitar. Any suggestions on what it’s worth much appreciated.
    Thanks,

    Steve Harris

Anyone able to help date this guitar (Goya GG140) and value it as well?
    Serial #53055.
Label reads ‘Distributed by DUDE Inc.’ Chanute,Kansas.
I believe this is Pre-Martin’s purchase.

    Sincerely and God Bless,
    Steve

      1. Re: Goya GG140 small classical
        Michael Worobec

In that period of time, when Dude, Inc. was distributing, Goya was owned by Kustom. Therefore, the serial numbers correspond to Kustom serial numbers. You may also notice that your serial number seems to correspond to Goyas made when Goya was later owned by Martin and made in Japan. However, a look at the catalog will reveal which yours is – the Kustom-era Goyas have distinct details from those of the Martin/Japan era.

      2. Re: This popular thread has been given its own page :... Magnus H
        Magnus H

        Steve,

GG140 is a Goya branded version of the Levin model 140, a 3/4 size guitar designed by a reputated Swedish luthier, Georg Bolin. Bolin made this design on assignment from Te Levin company who manufactured it from 1968 to the mid 70:s. The Levin version is oictured in the 1975 catalog at

Some of these model 140 guitars had a Bolin developed bracing system, called the "Duplex intonation".

Dude Inc was a company who owned the Goya brand between Sept 1972 and Nov 1976. Personally I think the 140 is a nice little guitar. Regarding value, I haven´t seen more than one or two on Ebay, my guess i anything between 250 to 500$

I have a goya guitar that has model# m-10, serial # 5,613 and was wondering if anyone knows what the value is and if it was truly handcrafted as the label on the inside of the quitar says. thanks
