well i have a guitar it says model m-22 and serial number 376098 goya made by A.B. German carlson levin – gothenburg, sweden. I would like to know in what year was it made?

    1. Your Goya Guitar M-22 was made in the middle of the year 1958.
The old Levin/Goya Serial number list can be used for guitars labeled with A.B. Herman Carlson Levin.

I have just recieved a Goya Model no. G-10 Serial no.208716 From a family member. Best I have done is looks like it’s made in 1949. Was wondering if anybody might know what it’s worth? It still has the original case with it to

    1. Your Goya G-10 Serial no.208716 was made about 1963, shortly before the introduction of the 5-digit ZIP code (Postal code).
It has solid Birch back&sides and a solid Alp spruce top. This is the bottomline of the guitars made by Levin (Sweden).
These guitars remain there value if the condition is good. There were many of these made and there are many on the market,
      this reduces their price.

  4. Goya M-26 serial #125718 Made in Sweden
    Hazel

My husbands father died and left my husband his Goya M 26 serial #125718 made in Sweden, “Herman Levin” Acoustic guitar. It is in excellent condition. I am trying to find out what year it was made but can’t find the serial number listed anywhere. On one list it looks like the serial number should be about 1941 but people here say that they were not made before 1950. This guitar was bought in Canada. Would that make a difference? Any information would be gratefully accepted.

    1. There is a notice about the
      Jason

There is a notice about the serial numbers “DO NOT use this serial numbers list for your Goya acoustic guitar unless the label has “Made by A.B. Herman Carlson Levin, Gothenburg, Sweden” printed on it. The serial numbers list below does not apply to any other Goya guitar.”

Your serial number would match to 1941 ONLY if it has the label “Made by A.B. Herman Carlson Levin, Gothenburg, Sweden”

You could try sending an email to [email protected] – but I’m not sure this old email address is still valid.

  5. Goya GS50 - SG Style no serial # ?
    Jeff

Hi I have an near mint early 70’s SG style Goya electric that is almost identical to my Gibson USA 60’s tribute SG. There is no serial# anywhere on this guitar but it is extremely well made rivals the Gibson in many ways..maybe even better? If anyone has any info on this great guitar I would appreciate it. Cheers

  6. Levin W-32 guitar
    Alexander Hill

I have a Levin W-32 guitar that I want to sell or fix up. It needs the action lowered. It needs the individual saddles adjusted or a neck reset since it has a gap at the heel of the neck where the neck meets the guitar body. The top is bellying up a bit – lifting up below the the bridge and I think it needs a truss rod adjustment. Trying to lower the action! Can this guitar be fixed or is it not worth fixing? How much should I sell it for? I have someone locally who want to buy it. Anyone else interested? Should I sell it on Ebay? For what price? It is in nice condition and was made before the Martin take over. It has a label inside that says made in Sweden. It is the sound of wood label. It does not say Martin. It does not have a serial #. Please advise if I should fix up or sell and for what price? Will this guitar increase in value over the next 10 years since it is of limited production and no longer made and has a solid 300-600 year old alpine spruce top and mahogany body? It has had one crack on the side repaired. Please contact me at [email protected] if you can give me some advice on a selling price or repair information or if you are interested in purchasing the guitar. Thanks for your reply. Alex.

      Hello Alex,

On the subject of the Levin. It sounds to me that your guitar was subjectes to high temperatures for long periods of time. The tension of the strings has lifted the bridge and possibly bridge area and seperated the neck from the body. You will need to have the top steamed to be right again and the neck reglued. The cost of that operation by a professional luthier would be quite expensive to have done and needs done by someone who knows what their doing. As far as the value it’s hard to say without seeing it but those facts should be considered if you are selling the guitar. The repaired crack doesn’t help either. I say move it on and look for something else to play. A regular retail buyer will be afraid of it. If you can find a guy that knows what he’s doing with it repair wise and he offers you a lower amount take the money and run.

        1. Re: Levin W-32 guitar
          Magnus H

          Russel,

The neck is set with a dove tail joint. Do not let anyone attempt to reset the neck that is not clear on how this is done.

Regarding the truss-rod, it is a single action compression rod, and it is adjusted from the peghead, under a little plastic hatch. The trussrod is for adjusting the curvature of the neck (the relief) and will not help if the action is to high. Any luthier would have the proper tools for the truss-rod adjustment.

The hole in the neckblock has nothing to do with any adjustments or disassembly, other than that it leads in to the dovetail pocket and is possible to use as inlet to inject steam when removing the neck.

I agree with the advice above, it is better to pass this on, it is a too good guitar to risk wrecking by doing things the wrong way. It deserves better.

          /Magnus

        2. Re: Levin W-32 guitar
          Alexander Hill

I brought the Levin into the local repair shop to have the guitar set up and the action lowered. The repair person noticed that there was a hole inside the neck block where the truss rod looks like it would line up with. The hole was visible through the center sound hole. If you hold the guitar with the neck up and look into the sound hole you can see the hole in the block where it looks like the neck might be bolted onto the guitar. Does anyone know if the Levin W-32 can have the neck tightened by this hole that looks like it has a nut on the end of the truss rod? Is this a bolt on or glued on neck? The repair person also said he can cut the heel of the neck to reset the neck to lower the action if it is not a bolt on neck. I think I am explaining this procedure correctly. Any hints or suggestions? Please let me know if you know what has to be done to reset the neck? This guitar is really nice. It is a top of the line levin model with a unbelievable spruce top and mahogany back and sides. What should I do? I appreciate your suggestions. Help save a rare guitar.

  8. Greco Model 140 serial #000121
    Mike Sims

My uncle has an old Greco he bought while in Japan in 1967. It is a model 140 serial #000121 greco. Can anyone tell me anything about this guitar? It appears to have mahogany back and sides, and a wide grained spruce top. I hate to say it but it looks like red spruce. I’m inclined to doubt that it is but that’s what it looks like. Does anyone know?

      : May want to sell.

      : Near Mint condition

Todays Retail value is hard to get a grip on as there arent many in circulation. However when it was new it was the finest and most expensive model Goya/Levin had to offer. In 1970 the price was 600 USD. I read a post somwhere that Goya have a bad second hand value, and the best thing is to keep them and play them yourself if you’re in to music. In Sweden where I come from they are really hard to come by. So if you decide to sell I´d be happy to make an offer

  12. Goya Model G 140
    Karrie

I have been trying to see when this guitar was manufactured and possibly what it is worth. I can’t seem to find any info on this model anywhere.

    1. Re: Goya Model G 140
      Magnus H

The G 140 or GG140 was the Goya version of Levin model 140, which was a 3/4 size student guitar developed by Levin in cooperation withthe swedish luthier Georg bolin.

As a Goya it was introduced in 1969 and most that I have heard about have had the "Distriuted by Dude" label.

As for value, i dont know, but it is a good little classical guitar in solid woods.

Classical guitars are not as big as the largest size steel string dreadnaught. G140 is a full size classical, not 3/4 size classical.

    1. Hi Tony,

You have probably have found out by now that your Goya was made in 1958.
I am curious to know what kind of top bracing M-50 has.
I used that one of Levin’s top models (Kentucky) from 1955, and it had the ladder bracing.
Please let me know if you get this message.
      Thanks so much.

  17. Goya Model ?
    Kenton Wiens

I bought a Goya classical in the mid 70s from Dude, Inc in Kansas, serial #55738, but the model number (hand written by Dude on the label) is difficult to read. Seems to be G.G.9, or 669, or something like that. Does anyone know what model number this is and its date of production?

I learned from "usedprice.com, that this G-180 not G-80 MRSP was $700 back in the day, I’m thinking about selling this Goya it also has an active LR Baggs Ibeam installed and comes with a HS case.
      I do have jpegs

: It’s from the early 80’s, It seems to be a very well made Japanese classical guitar. I believe it has a solid cedar top, and it seems to have rosewood back and sides(lamnated?) and perhaps an ebony fret board, sounds quite nice really. Does anybody know about this model, perhaps what it may be worth? The only Goya model that came close was from the 70’s a "GG-45" and it listed for $650 back than.
: Enclosing; I have played many types of nylons guitars hi & low end and this Goya seems to compete with the higher end ones in sound and feel AND the craftsmenship!
: Thanks for any info in advance!

  19. Goya G-10 Serial Number
    Larry

    Hi:

I have this well used, refinished G-10, with a number of large repaired cracks. So, no collector value. However I’m wondering when it was made. The inside label says serial # 96379. Part of the label is missing, so there could be one more number on the end of the serial number. My research shows they didn’t go that high though. On the first line, below the word GOYA I can make out Goya Gu….INC., NEW YORK 10…. On the next line all that is there is the word SWEDEN. I’d post a picture but this post won’t except it. Any info. about when it was made is appreciated.

      Rich A

      Hey Matt,

Came across this post while doing some research on my own T-23. I believe our guitars were amongst the 1967 flavours. This model was made from ’66-’68 as far as I can tell.

I picked up a T-23 that is one serial number away from yours! (359617) near Kemptville, Ontario, Canada 2 years ago. I bought it from the original owner who was basically liquidating his entire house to move elsewhere. It is very well used, and showing some awesome “patina”… I absolutely love this guitar, now that I have made a few adjustments.

Mine sure doesn’t look like much, but it still sounds incredible! Best money I have ever spent (came with a Prestige hard case in excellent condition too!)

When I bought it there was a buzz on the 1st fret when playing open low E only… a little UV compound in the nut groove fixed ‘er right up!

I notice this post is from 10 years ago… did you ever end up selling it? I know that I will never sell mine, no matter how ugly she gets!

      Cheers!

      Rich

I have had mine for 30 years and research has shown it is undervalued and an excellent guitar. It originally lists at $315 in 1968, so do the math and don’t give it away. In it’s shape, it should be over $1000 and probably much more due to its quality and rarity. Good Luck

Do I have your correct email? Have you been getting any of my messages??

        1. Hi Mike,
Wondering if you could tell me what a fair market price is for the a pristine condition Goya. I received on as a gift from friends around 1982. It has been kept in a hard case and only played a few times. I’m a piano player and couldn’t ever seem to get past the callous development stage. It’s a great little guitar. I can provide pics. I know the post above is old…but perhaps you’re still visiting around this site.
          thanks

  26. G163- Update for Magnus
    Brian

I posted about my newly aquired Goya G-163 last year and Magnus was kind enough to give me some information on this guitar. I just wanted to pop in and update. My particular guitar had some damage that needed repair and I converted it from nylon screws in the bridge to a bone saddle. The guitar sounds amazing. I have fallen so mucjh in love with this guitar that I have been looking for another one. What I love about it is that it is absolutly thunderous! IT has so much projection and bass. It is an unbelievable instrument.

So Magnus if your still out there my question is this- I want another Levin, or Levin made Goya, I prefer a dreadnaught and i love the tone and projection of my g163- what model and vintage would you reccomend I look for- is there a better model than my G163? Also do you know of any good sources for me to find a good LEvin or Goya? I have been looking for a couple of months and have not found the right one yet. Thanks again for all your help from a devoted Levin fan!

      Brian,

I am glad You like Your mod 163.

If You are in search of an equally good guitar, model 174 is the same spec except for the ebony fretboard, which may have positive impact for some people.

If You want alternative Dreads You have the Levin LT-18 (Goya T-18) and LN-26 (N-26) which were the predecessing models. These had slightly different bracings. They were X-braced but had slightly wider/lower braces and the X positioned ca 15 mm towards the soundhole. I think the X ocn the 174/163 were adjusted backwards to prevent bellying.

I have heard several people rate the differrence between these ranges as the 60:s models (LT-18, LN-18) had a Gibson sound and the later were more Martin sounding.

In the early 70:s, just before MArtin aquired Levin, a new series of instruments were launched, where the Dreads were the W-36 and the W32, both with mahogany bodies, spruce tops. The W-36 hade RW fretboard and the W-32 had ebony.
These are very nice if You ask me. My favourite Levins.

There were also a more rare W-30, RW 3 split back and RW sides. I only saw pictures of this one, but have no reason to believe other than that it´s great.

  27. God gifted me a Martin Goya
    Marc

The luckiest day of my life, got a Martin Goya G-180 Nylon Classical guitar in a trash in excellent condition! It was made in Japan, Serial #91721, looks like it has solid top and back and sides, and one piece mahag neck. Wondering when was it made, and it’s price

Yes I have G-180 and did some homework on it.
It’s a solid cedar top and I believe it is brazilian rosewood back and sides, don’t know if they are solid wood and I believe it is a ebony fretboard also. On the used market they say $400, I suspect they are worth more because of the woods and craftsmenship, these are not junk! In the day the MSRP was $700 on these!!! Try to find a classical guitar of this quailty in todays market for under $3000! They were made in the early 80’s, you may want to hold on to it if you are a player!

I have had a Goya Panther W 3 electric guitar for years. I have never really used it much and I got it from an old friend in the early 70’s and he had it for a long time and probably bought it from someone preceeding him.

It is white cream finished and the finsihed has cracked in place during its life. It has a very low serial number of 937. The best I can figure from the littlel information out there is that it was built in 1960. Can one add to my knowledge of this Panther W 3 in the realm of technical, age and possible value data.

      thanks in advance
