83 Road Start is very well respected, sought after guitar...but the number of musicians who love them is fairly small. Depending on features and conditions I see them sold on e-bay for 300-700 dollars

Ibanez Guitar!

I have an Ibanez guitar that my Dad got in the late 70's, maybe early 80's. He passed in 1998, and the guitar was given to me. He said long ago it was worth alot! What that means, I have no idea! I recently took it to a shop here in Nampa, ID. He found some info, but not much! He said it is an SG Japenese made, made in August 1977. I'm trying to find out from anyone at all what the value is on this sweet guitar! If anyone knows please contact me! Thanks, Steve H.

i also have a concord 698MD. did u find out anything about this model?

Ibanez Concord model 698 MD

I bought one of these new in Park Forest IL somewhere between 1970-1972 and lost interest in it about a year later with college and work. I is in a case upstairs and still looks showroom new. I paid about $350 for it at the time, don't know much else. Did you find out anything else about them?

Thanks

concord 698 MD

I did get a response from one lady that had the identical guitar. She was very nice to send me photos so that I could see (and remember) the beautiful pick-guard that I stupidly removed.

Does yours have the black pick-guard with what look to me like mother of pearl dandelion flowers (when they turn fuzzy)? It is a strange guitar, sounds really very nice but no-one has any info on them..... its like they dont exist! But, now I know there are 3 of them. lol

I am in Michigan. I wonder where all the others are.

concord 698 MD

I picked one up recently in Van Nuys. Maple neck, back and sides. Spruce top. Funny little pickguard like you describe. Gorgeous guitar, early 70s as you said. They don't make em like this anymore!

2399DX Lawsuit model 1973 - pickups and casing

Hi, my 2399DX plays well and looks great but at some point in its life the pick ups have been changed. I think it would have had Super 70s in it originally, but when they were changed the pickup casing was chiseled out a bit to make the new ones fit. It looks shoddy and I want to try and get new casings and pickups fitted to get it back to as an original state as possible.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks, Pat

Re: 2399DX Lawsuit model 1973 - pickups and casing

Hi Pat,
I am in the same predicament. The 2399DX originally had the gold oval-shaped "clear sound" single coil pickups. I bought my '73 DX back in '78 and it was in original mint condition. As a stupid 19 year old a couple of years later, I fitted a pair of the best (at the time) Seymour Duncan Humbuckers (single-wire on the neck and double-wire on the bridge). This gives an excellent sound and heaps of options with phase reversal and coil-tap switching - better than most others I've heard even today. The trouble is, now the DX is not standard and I can't find the old pickups anywhere - I must have ditched them. We should both keep hunting and keep in touch!

Cheers for now and good luck,

Eric

Re: custom agent

: custom agent no numbers purchased new in ireland any info welcome

Hi here, well all i can say is lucky you! I also have this model exept that the logo on the headstock is Antoria & not Ibanez. No matter the logo, all these guitars were made by the same people in the same factory in Japan. If yours has no serial number then it is pre 1975. It is worth about 1,000 euros, depending on condition!
Look for the book by Micheal Wright "Guitar Stories Volume One" which contains photos and the story of your guitar!
I would insure the guitar as they are rare.

Re: Ibanez roadster bass (RB800)

Hey, I agree with everything said about the RB800. However, it's time to get rid of my trusted 800. It is hiddeously colored with a rare factory color- turquoise blue/green. Oh, yeah, it is in mint condition. And yes, it plays like nothing else I have ever set hands on. But, alas, it is time to say good bye. Email me at conboy1@cox.net in Omaha,NE.

musician rd custom 77

i bought a musician guitar about 10 years ago,
i found out it was a musician later,
but the year and the name doesnt match with the musician history,
according to the serial number it's a december 1977, and ibanez released the musician in 78,
also all the pictures i saw of the different models have minor differences with mine (switch, volume knobs...)
i also found that, with gibson guitars,rd means -research department-
i was wondering if mine would be a prototype

Re: Ibanez roadster bass (RB800)

: I bought my 1981 Japanese Ibanez Roadstar RB800 4-string Bass brand new in NYC in 1981! It was a truly horrific Fire Engine Red with tiny metallic flakey sparkles when i got it. 26 years later, and its dulled down to a pretty cool looking deeper red. She's got "Ibanez RB800. The Ultimate Expression Of Craftsmanship" along the body, just above the neck. (Bolt-On Neck, Arrow shaped Headstock) She also has the Fender type PUps and all-active system. The neck is really skinny for a bass, even narrower than my Fender Jazz Bass. I LOVE this bass. I've used her constantly for almost 26 years now!
: In session it's sound just outclasses Fenders, Ricky's and even a couple of Alembic's I've used. I've had clients request a "Grunting Precision Bass sound..." in a session, and after about 3 mins on an Ashdown 4x10 tube combo, and 5 mins on my Ibanez, I had the producer saying "Thats the fattest grunt i've ever heard..." (He's obviously never met my mum!) I went through the entire 80's with her doing "Slap Bass" sessions, Jazz sessions, Rock, Blues etc etc. BUT... My Ibanez RB800 truly excells in the "Funk Bass" dept. The action on her 2 octave superscale neck is **** ing amazing.
: It's never fretted out or choked. The Frets did actually turn green though!!! Against the dark Rosewood board and the deep red neck, it looked sort of cool, but even on a new set of strings she was starting to sound a bit tired. I got her refretted in Boston (94) and the guy who did the job said that she had the wildest feel he's ever played. With a set of Med long scale strings, the action at the 12th fret is just slightly higher than my 75 Gibson LP Standard! In 26 years, she's been pro setup only TWICE and refretted ONCE! She's so well setup, that if i want to, i can actually play just a little more behind the frets, and give her a Ricky or PBass "Grunt" or do lead lines on her.
: After 26 years, my only gripes about her is 1: THAT colour!
: 2: When the 9volt battery runs out, things get ugly. All of a sudden it's fizz, fizz, fart......nothing! So i always keep a spare few 9volt batts in the original Ibanez RB800 Case (built like a tank!)
: Not too bad a list of gripes really i think. I cant say enough about my RB800. It can also do Dub Reggae effortlessly too... I'm going into the studio today, where i'm producing and playing guitar/bass on a truly amazing Singer/Songwriters debut album. I'll take her out of her case, look at her and go "Uuuuugh what the **** was i thinking about with this colour!" plug her in and put down 10 hours worth of excellent sounding bass tracks.
: Cant say anymore about her.
: I would never think of selling her, but am looking for another one (NOT RED!) I'd love to know what the wood is under the paint. If i do ever see another one for sale, i'd buy it, and get my Red RB800 stripped and Nitro'd natural.
: Big Al
: Audio Slave
: The Sonic Kitchen Studio

I have one of these RB800's in factory Seafoam Green. You think RED is wild. I love this bass, but I think I would trade it for a pearl white one or a black one. People have always commented on the awesome sound and wild color. Everything you say about this fine machine is true. But because of the color, I would probably trade it.

Old SG Bolt on!

I have an old SG copy, mahogany body, maple neck 21 frets, made in Japan neck plate, and bigsby style tremelo! There is nothing written on the headstock, but I was told it was an off-shoot of the Hoshino company, can you tell me any more? Thanks for your time

Re: Ibanez roadster bass (RB800)

I have this bass too. When I bought it, it was the black pearl color they had...stripped the body down (left the neck cause I didn't want to mess with it), and stained it a nice walnut color, actually kinda opened the sound up somewhat a little doing this. I didn't put a laquer over it just left it the natural wood and rub it with beeswax every now and then to keep it nice.

banjos

Can anyone tell me where I can get information on all banjo's built by Ibanez

Re: banjos

: Can anyone tell me where I can get information on all banjo's built by Ibanez

I would like to find out more information as well. I have a banjo I purchased new in 1974, by Mansfield. They are linked to Ibanez in the following way with this vintage of guitar (and, I am guessing, the banjo as well):

Mansfield was a Canadian musical instrument distributor (you will note that most Mansfield owners are in Canada). Mansfield guitars are OEM made from different musical instrument manufacturers. Recently purchased Mansfield guitars have no special interest, but in the 1970's , the Mansfield guitars were built by Hoshino Gakki (Japan), the Ibanez makers.

If you have a 1970's Mansfield, chances are that it's an Ibanez with a Mansfield name on it. The Ibanez vintage guitars are highly wanted. You can search Ibanez vintage collector websites for more information about the Ibanez story and some information about Mansfield. There is no doubt that those guitars are meant to become collector's items because they are apparently the same guitars as the Ibanez vintage 1970s, except for the brand.

If you have any comments or information let me know...

Rare? Ibanez... anyone?

I own a 1983 Ibanez model NW 350 AM which is an acoustic dreadnought body with solid spruce top and Maple sides and back. Has anyone out there ever seen this model? I went to a website that had it listed, but nobody had put up a picture or any info on it. If you can help, it'd be appreciated.

IBANEZ TELE THINLINE/ LAWSUIT GUITAR

Anyone know what year this was made? The vintage site shows it at 1973, but I am about to buy one where they claim it's a 75. But doesn't seem any were made then. This is a Thinline Tele copy with the f hole and double humbuckers. Also, what is a good price to pay?

1977 flying V bass

I can never find any info on this bass. I'm assuming it was made Aug 1977 because the serial# is H775137. Any help.
