Don't listen to em' man, Squire's are unplayable pieces of crap. If you try to learn how to play on something crappy with horrible sound, the only thing your going to learn is how much you hate your P.O.S. guitar. Always buy the nicest rig you can afford. Hmm... Fernandes makes some decent one's for the money, looking around a $300 price range for the guitar only, which is really about as low as you want to go if you actually plan on continuing to play the guitar. For ska sound, double humbuckers will be good for rhythm, give you that kinda full dirty phased sound that almost all ska bands use. BTW, ska has been done, so be original, come up with some wacked shit.
