: : : does anyone know how to go about painting or putting a finish on a self assembled guitar? The one person in my town who might know says that you cannot do it in the winter because the finish will not hold...I need to see if there is another way to paint a guitar sparkle red and make it look good in the winter. Respond or send me email at jcoakley@mindspring.com ...thanks

I have learned some from 33 years experience, also recommend books by Ron Kirn or Jacksonville FLA. Find them with google search.

Anyhow, if your spraying environment is warm enough, I think the sparkle finish should adhere. Overlay with several coats of acrylic lacquer, not nitrocellulose. Let cure for at least 3 months before assembly.

Also, my silver sparkle Strat-type guitar custom-made serial number 001 made by Bill Nash/Nashguitars has survived temps of minus 30 degrees, and is okay, since I warmed it up for 24 hours at room temperature before opening. BUT, nitro would have cracked, I think.

DO contact Ron Kirn. He's a nice guy and and expert, after all he wrote the book(s)!
