Kiari classical guitar

I'd be grateful if anyone can tell me how my guitar fits into the Yairi range, indeed if it's genuine or not. The label inside says Kiari Guitars by K.Yairi, Japan, model number is fuzzy but appears to be CY 640, serial number is 5 1157. I bought it new from a UK dealer in 1974/5 not knowing much about guitars at the time and use it to play folk/acoustic accompaniment. It looks identical to photos of the current CY140 classical, sounds superb and wows people who here it for the first time.

Yari DY 57 serial #14749 need pick guard help

Had my Yari Alvarez DY 57 for 25 years, plays great! the pick guard curled up and I now have some pick guard glue on the spruce top. How do I get this off and what is the BEST pick guard replacement?
Also, what are the best strings for this guitar.

yairi g-1f

I'm just considering buying a Yairi G-1f second hand giutar in mint condition what would be a reasonable asking price

DY-78 guitar. replacement of pick guard and refinishing???

Greetings from Warner OK.

I have an Alvarez Yairi guitar that has been played with the pick very low on the strings. There is worn finish and some wood abraded away just below the pickguard. there are lots of scratches and abrasions on the finish. Would it devalue the guitar to attempt any type of repair/replacement of the pickguard?
The finish could be polished down and then a fresh coat of finish put back over it to smooth out the various scratches. Would this devalue the guitar??
The guitar is in excellent playing condition.

Thanks!
Ray

Re: DY-78 guitar. replacement of pick guard and refinishing???

Ray,
I bought a DY 78 in a pawn shop recently. The previous owner flat picked it and the burl pick guard was ruined. I got some pick guard material from Stewart-MacDonald and replaced the pick guard and head stock veneer. Looks good. Don't know if/how it will affect its value, but I like it.

K Yari 1976 model YW135 ?

Does anybody know what this is worth. It has been played very little, like knew?

K Yairi YW135

I don't even know if this site is still active. I have one of these, which I imported from a seller in Japan in 2010. It is an amazing guitar to play and the sound is as good as anything I have ever heard. I have a collection of 20 to 30 guitars and this is one of the better instruments on the walls. I aid a total of $875 and think it is worth considerably more today. I have only heard of three others in the States.

Alvarez Yari DY 47 1988

I have owned this guitar since the late 1980's. Any idea what its worth? (good condition) Serial # 57660. Inside label bears Kazoo Yari's signature.

Yairi cy-1

Can anyone point me to some info on the cy-1. A local store has one for sale, but can't even find it in a catalog. It is a sloped cutaway nylon string model with turquoise rosette and turquoise fingerboard markers.
Thx much,
Al

Did you ever find out anything about this model guitar? I would be interested as I also have found one for sale and don't know anything about it.

Re: Akvarez Yairi Model 5067

I'm going to correct my email I just sent. Looks like the heel block number of my model 5067 is is 4703, if I'm reading it right, and that breaks out to March 1972, according to the Web site at Alvarez Yairi.

Re: Akvarez Yairi Model 5067

Well, folks, I'm in the same boat. Just punched in my model number, a 5067, serial number 1135, and that brought me to this Web site. But I just read something on the Yairi (Alvarez) home site that made me think the model number can show the date of manufacturer, with the 50 in the 5067 breaking out to 1975. And that's when I think I was given me, for sure.
...it's well taken care of and I think my ex bought it for me in about 1975 for maybe $200, maybe on sale even at that price, plus another maybe $80 for a custom made case. It is in perfect shape, not sure I'd sell it but sure would like to know the value. It still plays as sweet as Day One, if not sweeter. Just finished polishing it after a little playing.

yairi 'cbs-masterworks' classical ca. 1971??

For those who love a challenge, I'm trying to see if this guitar is a legitimate "vintage" Yairi Masterworks classical or something else. All I know is the following:
The label says it's made for "CBS Masterworks by Kazuo Yairi"
has "MW" burned into back support, vertical arrangement of letters;
has "MWG-Y1010" as model number on label;
has serial number 14611, supposedly
All of this affirmed by seller. I've not seen the guitar in person.
My concern: I thought serial nos. started with dynastic year, then month, so 4611-- would be better. Also, can't fine model number--nobody's heard of it. And, finally, what is "CBS"??
Any help greatly appreciated, please email me.

Re: yairi 'cbs-masterworks' classical ca. 1971??

I don't know if you are still looking at this but I hav a CBS Masterworks I picked up in '71. The model is MWG560. It was made in Japan. Says nothing about Yairi. I know that Fender sold out to CBS back in '65 and CBS produced guitars until Fender bought it back in '85. I do not know anything else about this guitar but would like to know more.

I'm also looking for information on my Yairi. It's hand made exclusively for CBS Masterworks. The model number MWG- Y 1025. The heel number is 11467. I bought it in 1974 for $50 from one of my brother's friends who was desparate for money. I don't remember how much he paid for it, but is was significantly more than what I paid. It was in perfect condition when I bought it, but it now has some nicks and scratches. Still sounds great.

DY71 & DY74

I have been looking at buying one of these two acoustics and was wonderingif anyone knew if either were made with Mahogany or Rosewood back/sides? I Like the 71, but it seems to be most commonly found in Koa. Any thoughts appreciated.

Is the DY-71 solid Koa or laminated Koa? If laminated, does this

take away from it at all?

DY71

Hi, Jim. This past Saturday, I bought a new DY71 that was manufactured in '95. From what I've been told, it has a solid Spruce top, laminated Koa back & sides, ebony fingerboard, and a graphite bridge. I put a set of Elixir lights on it, and it sounds as sweet as, if not sweeter than anything I've ever heard. Deep (but not boomy) lows and crisp (but not tinny) highs. It's incredible how much sound comes out of it. And, she's surprisingly lightweight, too. Is there something about Koa that you don't like? Here are a couple of links pertaining to the 71 that you might find helpful. I wish you the best.
