I bought this guitar around 1965 to 1970. I can’t seem to find any information on it. Does anybody know anything about it?
Thanks,
Rudy
What is the difference between this guitar and a k Yairi? The serial #is 120, hand-written as is the date etc. Any idea how much it might be worth? I’m not thinking to sell, but I feel I may have got a bargain. It is a bit rough, but plays beautifully and will look perfect when I’ve got it all cleaned up. Any help?

Did you get any response from your question? I too have a 1966 Yairi B&M Soloist and wish to sell but have no idea of price. Can you help?
Thanks

Hi Einar.
I just got myself a K. Yairi DY59 from ’88. Mint condition and all. I looked it up on the web, and found only little information on it. Those who has written about it, speaks highly of it though. Good sound, good action. But take a look for yourself.
Regards
Thomas O.
I bought my K. Yairi dreadnought new in 1986 for AUD$800. It has a mahogony neck, brazilian rosewood bridge & fretboard anhd came with a bone nut and saddle. After some research, I discovered that the sides and back are made of coral rosewood. The top is Sitka spruce. I’ve fitted a compensating saddle and use Dunlop strings. I set up the action so it’s as good as most electric guitars but the strings don’t buzz even when struck hard. This instrument is a gem. It sounds great for country, bluegrass, folk and jazz, and with a removable DiMarzio pickup, even sounds good for rock. Without amplication, it is bright, deep and VERY loud. I heard this model was a copy of the Martin D59 and Martin prevented future production by successful court action, but I haven’t seen any evidence of this. If anyone is thinking of buying one, I encourage them to do so. I doubt yhey would be disappointed. Have fun!

I am the original owner – very good condition – I oil the fingerboard once a year and only play G,C and D. I know pathetic but I worked in a music store and the guitar guys there said to buy this one when I decided I wanted to learn the guitar. Looking for a good home.

Oops. I meant that they are selling the model CY116 for sale today. for 1600.00$
I have #278/600. I looked at a web site the other day and they are selling the model CY 115 from today for 1600.00$. I bought mine for $600 in 1980.
: I have #47/600, 1978. I acquired it for $300.00 in 1979 from a 1st Lt in the US Army who was moving up in his classical training to some version of a Khono. It has been pristinely in it’s hardcase since, although I have begun playing it lately learning a Fl!p Breskin arrangement of an Andy Cutting tune titled FlatWorld. I got many comments tonight after playing it at an open mike about how wonderful the guitar sounds. Someone needs to bee keeping a roster of owners. These are indeed special guitars.

I called Alvarez directly and was told that they could not determine after-market value of one of their own instruments. They did, however, tell me to contact Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, TN and get an appraisal. I was told he is widely considered to be the international expert at pricing rare vintage instruments. $50 for the appraisal service, done via internet w/ digital photos of instrument and serial #’s. I am going to have mine appraised soon. I will post a follow up so we will all finally know what these outstanding guitars are really worth. Maybe then we can start that club…

This is really something. I have still been looking, and every day I get the same place. The guitar I have has now gotten a name "jezabel" due to its red, provocative color. I am still to see a true appraisal of it. If anyone knows, please let me know.
Posted on June 13, 2009…As an owner of an awesome 1978 Alvarez-Yairi CY-115 burled mahogany classical guitar, I want to join the CY-115 Owners’ Club, too. Where are the other 599 owners? My CY-115 guitar has a BOOMING bass response, wonderful fingerboard action and feels like it is part of my body when I play it. I consider myself lucky to own this superb 31-year-old work of art. Let’s keep in touch through this site.
Hi– I was looking for current prices for a CY115, because mine was stolen a few days ago and I am corresponding with the insurance adjuster. That’s how I found this page.
I WAS one of the 600 owners….

I have Alvarez Yairi 1979 CY-115 438/600. I’m the original owner with original case and guitar is in excellent condition. Thinking of selling but don’t know the value. Everything that has been said about the tone and sound is true. Any guidance appreciated.
I have one of 600 limited edition Yairi CY 115 classical guitars from April,1978, along with an Alvarez Yaira acoustical DY51 from 1983. Would be interested in discussing selling as a set. Both are in very good shape with hard shell cases. Post comments with any interest.

I own a CY-115 #343 of 600. I was wondering if anyone has a registration or interest group for the CY-115?
I have owned it since it was new. It sounded great the first time I played it, and just gets better with time, it just fills the room with a full, sweet sound. I’ll never sell it.
A friend bought this guitar/case for 20 dollars
serial #29976 built 4-6-1979.
The guitar looks beautiful after shining up with furniture polish.
The case is black with the blue fur on the inside.
Yamaha tag forward of the handle.
I’t seems there’s not much info for this collector’s edition.
Just noticed that my guitar has the same build date stamp on the label as yours. SN is also close.
Hey I bought a cy115 about 9 months ago… I really enjoy this guitar. I paid $500.00 and as far as I can tell that sounds like fair price. Don’t plan on ever selling so really does’nt matter to me but its always nice to know that you have something that will appreciate with time seeing that there are only 600 made. I have number 546 by the way.
I have a Yairi (Signed on the label) DY48. It was made in 1983 and plays excellent. there are a few scratches. I bought it years ago in a pawn shop for a couple hundred bucks.

Hello All, I have a Yairi guitar, paper label inside says…. Hand Crafted in Japan by Yairi… model no 1450… ad 1965…. serial no 494. I have been doing some research and now know Yairi guitars are special, but I cannot find any that date to 1965 or have just numbers for the model and serial numbers, (I am assuming that ad 1965 is the year this guitar was made). Anyone here know about this guitar… or can anyone point me to a website that might help me do some research on this guitar. Thanks!!!

You have an old Sadao Yairi guitar, not Kazuo Yairi (of Alvarez Yairi). Most likely it has the label in partial Kanji, with Sadao’s red authentication stamp.
For help with most question on K. Yairi, Alvarez Yairi, Sada/Sadao or Hiroshi Yairi Acoustic guitars.

Hi folks , The 5047 guitar is by far one of the best kept secrets out there. I have a Takamine with the same material and I believe it to be rosewood sides and back. Mahogany neck . The Japanese are real artist on guitars and I think one of the masters had something to do with the design of the 5047. I have played a couple Yairi, a 5000.00 martin, not mine by the way, and if it was to be a standup fist fight it would be a long one.
Enjoy the Queen ,protect it, and never get rid of it.

I bought a yairi fretless bass 11 years ago, just wondering if anyone might know anything about it. The shop that sold it said they’d originally imported 2 of them (into australia) in the early 80’s, and this one came back on consignment. fretless, medium scale, ebony fingerboard, 1 x single coil, 1 x vol, 1 x tone, pointy looking tuners, no serial/model numbers. quite pointy violin/beatley bass shape, not acoustic bass, no f holes or sound hole. Sounds incredible, one day I may be worthy. Very close to double bass tone, but with more bottom. Any clues on model, age, or value? Thanks.

::The DY 50 was one of Yairi’s limited editions. Not too sure about the construction of the DY 50 but the
DY50N was a laminate Brazillian Rosewood. As you may surmise, the Brazillian Rosewood stocks are reserved for the primo stuff Kazuo produces. Matter of fact, the "N" suffix always denotes Brazillian. I have owned two, recently selling the cosmetically best one to the lead singer/guitarist of "Nellie", formerly known as "Worship Project", a band of some repute here in Salina, KS. FYI, I own or have owned 9 Yairis, and rate the 50n’s I have owned as the top of the "creme de la creme". Only one I have that compares is a non-Alvarez Yairi, model # AR321S, which is also a straight shoulder but has a sound that smokes all of the Gibsons for the bright/country sound. The 50N that i kept has a repaired broken headstock that nonetheless smokes most d28s for tone, sound and volume, and i have played quite a few of those.
Hope this helps, and by the way, I have only seen one Yairi that was a "lemon", a DT38 that was "rode hard, and put up wet"! In short, you will probably never go wrong with a Yairi. Check "em out at Harmony Central reviews, and you will see what I mean. Over and over again, you will see, "Bought a Yairi, sold my Martin"
Hope this helps,
Steve Lawrence
Hi Rod, I may have much information about your particular guitar. Did you buy it in Chadbourn, NC ? If so, I owned it for about 30 years.

That is really one of the GREAT Yairis’. It is the 50th anniversary issue. I bouught one new in 1980 and for the period that I owned it I couldn’t have been more pleased. When new it came with a belt buckle (for a 2" belt, sign of the times) I got a divorce and as things go my guitar mistreiously disapered. Hmmm. Anyway, I’ll I have left is the 50th anniversary Belt Buckle.
The guitar is a keeper. Give it allot of love

Yes, I’m interested. Still have it?

I have a 50th anniversary Alvarez Yairi DY-50, #006/900. There’s one on ebay right now, #328/900, at a starting bid of $4,500. Here are the vital statistics I received when I bought mine: solid cedar top; one piece mahogany neck and head; ebony fingerboard w/snowflake inlays; burled mahogany back and sides; burled mahogany headstock veneer; Alvarez-Yairi sealed tuners; multi-strip body binding; tortoise shell pickguard. hope this helps. I own this guitar 23 of 900. S/N 30657 It’s an amazing guitar and beautiful with the laminated burled mahogany back and sides which I believe to be in excellent condition. A lady gave it to my dad and when he passed away, it became mine. I haven’t had it long but I wanted to find out more about it. I think it’s a rare guitar and I’m happy to own it. I contacted Alvarez to find out more info and a man by the name of Tom Kruszka informed me that it was “set up” in the St Louis plant in Oct. 1979 and the MSRP was around $575 when new.
I worked all summer to buy that guitar. It hung in the music shop in humble Texas with advertising of Jonny cash endorsing
Of the model as well as Larry Gatling I believe. I paid full price retail of $758+.
I still own it, have carried it overseas when in the marines from Okinawa, turkey, Korea, Arizona Texas and California.
She is priceless….
I have # 616 / 900. no buckle, bought new case, will sell for reasonable offer.
I have a Alvarez DY50 that I may want to sell….I haven’t seen much activity on the guitar on e-bay or any other sites.
let me know if you are interested
looking for a very limited edition Yuri 1979 dy50
I have a Limited Edition Yari Kazuo DY50 also! It’s 751/900. My dad bought it in a pawn shop 30 + years ago and passed it along to me when I learned to play. Would love information also!!!
I just bought a NOS WY1-k. From what I can tell from the serial #, it looks to be a 1990. It has a smaller abalone rosette than the one pictured on the Alvarez website. Also, the nut width measures at 1 5/8", not 1.625 mentioned on the Alvarez site. Does anyone know what year the appointments and nut width changed for this model? Thanks.

The width has not changed, 1 5/8" is equal to 1.625".
Curious about the value of this Alvarez.

Help me please I am a very sick person! I"m very sick from an injury to the back of the neck by Getting punched their the person hit me from behind and ran, and when I found out the damage the guy did it was too late to charge him the police said also it would be difficult because I had no witness. I am on the disability pension.
I loved my K-yairi Guitar I played it all day also it was missing a scratch plate under the sound-whole or that was replaced by who ever sold it. I payed $300 for it then and now a kyairi is worth around $5000 I have been never able to afford another one also you cannot replace a guitar that sounded and played like the K-Yairi I had, it was a mahogany wood with original K-yairi silver tuners and a six string dreadnought
I had the guitar stolen from 624 Redbank plains Road Brisbane I’m pretty sure the flat was 624
The case had a purple inlay but it could of been sold without the case as the stuff this guy at the hockshop on Queensland Road at the back which again he would not let me look it, said it all went to the auctions with an angry and guilty voice tone and look.
I have cancer these days and I would love to get my guitar back it also had the pick guard removed but the might of replaced if anyone purchased a k-yairi guitar in Queensland approximately (time it was stolen 1994), If you have a conscience please send me an email stating who you sold it too or if any guitars have been bought in Australia Queensland Brisbane locality around 1994 or it could have been a year difference. please send me the registration number as I will remmember the number when I see it my email is [email protected]

I recently purchased a 5021. The sticker inside says model no. 5021 and inspected by 21-8-75. Inside stamped on the heelblock are the numbers 02500. I’m assuming that’s the serial number. Can anyone shed any light onthis instrument? What year was it made, what woods were used, etc. Thanks.

There’s a web site that explains the number stamped on the heel block. It is http://www.alvarezgtr.com/homepgs/yairidate.html

I too own a 5021 Alvarez. Mine is serial number 45095 and was assembled on April 28, 1977. (Great guitar and it’s tone has mellowed, through the years, to the point that it rivals my 1983 Martin D-45!) I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
I also have an Alvarez 12 string. The model on mine is 5021 and the serial number is 1082. Can anyone tell me
when this guitar was made and where it was made?
I’ve had one of these since 1980, still in excellent condition. Easy to play and a joy to strum or pick. Never had to do anything to it, no adjustment, etc., just new strings every yr. or so. I strum hard and love this guitar. The sound is outstanding. I recently was offered 450 for it but turned it down.
I have an alvarez 12 string guitar model 5021 , the serial number is 3268. Can anyone tell me the age of this guitar . It is in great condition and sounds amazing
I would have to say it was made in august 21 of 1975. Not sure what the 02500 number is. Maybe the production number.
I am Japanese.
I’ve been looking for an Alvarez Yairi DY92 model. Does anyone know of a used one for sale.
My web site is Alvarez-Yairi fan site by Japanese.

I have one for sale that I will now be listing on eBay.
Hello, Edward. Thank you for letting me know.
This guitar is for sale. I know the history of this guitar and will give details to serious buyers only.
I am the proud owner of a 1979 Limited Edition CY115, serial # 32411 with head # 54080494 and guitar number 671 of 600(if that makes any sense). The head number verifys the August 1979 producton date and the info I have is that this was a very limited production built by Kazuo Yairi himself. Anyone with more info please pass it on. I have owned this since new but can find no listings of the CY115 in any Yairi websites.
Please emal me if you have any more information about the 1978 Alvarez-Yairi CY-115 burled mahogany classical guitars. Final production quantities? Original selling price? Current value? Were all of them handmade by Kazuo Yairi? Were these sold worldwide or only in the U.S.? Keep in touch!
Hi,
This guitar was handmade by master luthier Kazuo Yairi. There only around 600 of these beautiful instruments in the world. It is a special event when one changes hands. Now is your chance. See ebay item number 150158446375
Thanks
Bert
PS Sorry if you think this is spam, I just thought some of you have been looking for one of these.
I’m in the same boat as you. I have tryed and fail to find any detailed info on my own Yairi Limited Edition CY115.
My serial # is 31619. My head stock reads CY-115 622/600.
My head number inside the guitar is 54070725. If you find out anything please let me know. I’ll do the same.
I’ve owned mine since 82 or 83. Love it! The S/N is 31612. Production number is 612/600 – huh? The last three numbers in the S/N correspond to the production number. Number at the bottom left of label is 54.9.27. Neck block number is 54070684. I’ve been trying to get more info on this since the dawn of the internet. Their numbering scheme seems to be a little wacky. This is a guitar that I’ll never sell but it would be cool to know the history and why there are production numbers greater than 600…
Whats the PRice? for a 1979 CY115
I bought mine in late ’79. SN 30859. Date 3 8 79. 333/600. It’s a keeper.

Very blurry pictures, but it looks like a late 1960s/early 1970s K. Yairi Y40. It may possibly be a Y70. The guitar has laminated rosewood back and sides, with a rosewood fingerboard and a cedar or spruce top. Its a nice playing guitar.
The Yairi Y series is an early Yairi classical guitar series that is a distant cousin of the current CY classical guitar line.<
Does anyone have any info regarding construction/woods/etc on my K Yairi DY 68 1976 12 String

I don’t think I will be of much help other than to say I also have a "CBS Masterworks Handcrafted by Kazuo Yairi" which I got in Toronto in about 1969/70 Model #MWG-Y1055. It to is in nice shape and I too would like to know a value and more.
: I have a CBS Masterworks I picked up in ’71. The model is MWG560. It was made in Japan. Says nothing about Yairi. I know that Fender sold out to CBS back in ’65 and CBS produced guitars until Fender bought it back in ’85. I do not know anything else about this guitar but would like to know more.
I also have a CBS Masterworks guitar that my mother bought in about ’72 from GB sound in Burlington, ON. It is a very small guitar, but with a great tone. the front is spruce, and i think the back and sides are mahogany, with and oak neck. It is very playable, with a warm folkish tone. it rarely goes out of tune, and has been mistreated by allowing dew to build up on it while around a campfire, but the tone remained the same and no warping occured. Its model is "MWG580" and is also made in Japan. I have been looking for info on this guitar as well, if anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated.

I use my grandpa’s CBS MasterWorks acoustic, its a larger guitar but this one has dried out so the body cracked and i’ve been looking for a replacement
The model number is MWG560 like yours.
I have a CBS classical guitar model GU2609 and it is a bitch trying to find information on this guitar!! Is there any kind of valuation on these guitars? I’m fairly sure they aren’t made anymore and it’s a nice enough instrument I guess. Let me know how your search for more information goes! Might have to dig up some older retailers from that period of time who could tell you.
Just wondering if you have received any updated information on your CBS GU 2609 guitar as I have one also and have been on the same search.
Thanks
I have a CBS Masterworks Yairi cypress and rosewood flamenco guitar made for Charlie Byrd to play with his initials in mother of pearl on the neck of the guitar. Just wondered if anyone could know the value? I bought it from Richard Harrison (his arranger) at the Charlie Byrd music house in maryland in the early ’70’s when he was selling some instruments.

I bought this Guitar in Adelaide at a second hand store, I was about 23 years old and now I am 73, just wondering is it a fender????
I bought it second hand in about 1970 It has a Gibson emblem on stock, Is it a Fender or Gibson ???
This guitar is a flamenco made of cypress wood, ebony fingerboard and mother of pearl on the headstock with his initials . He sold it to me while dowsnsizing his guitar collection. It was made by Am trying to get information on it. It has a beautiful rich tone and I love it!!”CBS Masterworks Handcrafted by Kazuo Yairi” Model number MWG-Y1040

Hi Lynne,
I have the very same guitar (serial # 14611) and have enjoyed it ever since I purchased it from Jeryy Reeser’s shop in Brantford in the late ’60s.
I am now looking to liquidate but have no idea of it’s worth.
Do you know of a site or have any information you can share regarding it’s value?
Thanks,
Joe
I cannot believe this-every site i go to people are trying to have their guitar evaluated-is there not 1 person out there that can tell me what my classical from the 60’s is worth????
is he still alive -i will try to call him!!!d
I have a CBS acoustic guitar, I am trying to find out more about where it was made and what wood it is made of. It is a GU 2608.
If any body can help me thank you in advance.
Hey there, I was interested in your post. I have a CBS GU 2604. Don’t know anything about it. what have you learned? Paul
Nothing new to report. Still looking. How about you?
Thanks,
Steve
Did you ever get any reply on your GU-2608? I’m on the same quest for my GU-2609. One suggestion is it could be a K. Yairi guitar. Can’t confirm though. Evidently he worked at Fender in the mid 60’s & then Alverez. Google him to learn more. please let me know if you learn more. I’ll do the same.
Thanks
Last weekend l picked up a battered Classical Guitar CBS GU 2602 in a second hand shop. Covered in dust, scratched, chipped, missing strings and bridge lifting. Cost me $15. I’ll tweek it here and there maybe it will sing? lol
I aquired this Mwg 590 at an auctionsale. This fellow bought this guitar in the late 50’s or early 60’s from Culhams Music Store in Swifht Current Saskatchewan. This guitar is in excellent condition. My luthier set the action and harmonics and he felt it had a similiar tone to Martin D ?.
I own a CBS Masterworks bass guitar in mint condition. I purchased it off of a friend in Toronto in 1973. It has the exact same dimensions as a 1970 Fender Jazz bass, except “CBS Masterworks” is engraved on the head (not a decal). I can’t find any info on this guitar anywhere and would appreciate any input you have. I have pictures if interested.
Thanks
Barry
I recently had my cbs 1969 accoustic apraised when I installed a fishman pickup on it and fixed a few minor playability issues
The guitar tech apraised it for me and said I could epect to get anywhere between $1000-1500for it because it has all original parts and
Has never been refinished. My guitar for its age is in near mint shape. If ur guitar is in simular condition I would expect that u would be
Able to get the same kind of money

Hello
Tried posting a reply but had some technical difficulties. Looks like our guitars are nearly mates. My serial # is 24591. Grat guitar, never seen another. I’ve heard they were only sold in Canada and Austrailia but have no idea if that’s true.

I have a 1989 model 377E – I concurr – the playability is very good and the neck is like that of a Gibson J45. It is the instrument of choise for me to write with because unfortunately a band mate dropped it and ruined the jack at the bottom. I would also be curious to find out what these guitars are worth.

I have a signed – both inner label and on guitar top – 1983 K.Yairi acoustic/electric AR373E. I am not the original owner. It is VERY close to origninal/ mint condition…some very minor fret wear…I think it sounds awesome and have yet to see another like it. I occasionally check ebay and have only seen only some that are close to being similar, but none identical.
hold onto it with both hands and don’t ever let it go, it’s a great guitar. I have a 1985 and it has tripled in value since I bought it

Thanks Pat for responding to my message. Sorry for the delay in my follow-up. Yes, it is an AWESOME sounding and incredible looking guitar. I am entertaining the thought of parting with it…but ONLY if I can find someone who is highly qualified to buy it and utilize it with care and diligence. Since I posted my original message I have had the frets ‘dressed’ and action reset etc. The passive sub sadle mic is not functioning, but is an easy fix.
Dan,
Thank you for sharing your pictures. Jason thanks for getting them posted! Don’t see anywhere to post pictures or I’d post mine as well of my 1984. So far it seems there was definitely 2 guitars made each year for 3 years. A 1983 373E just sold within a few weeks of being posted with shipping it was over $1,800 US. The seller said they’d never seen the model so it had to be rare… not sure they knew the worth of it, not sure we know??? It sold fast so somebody knew it was a good guitar. I love the sound, it’s quality in all realms, and really enjoy playing the guitar immensely. Has a tone that just soothes when it’s played. Does anyone know how many were actually made? We may be the only record available…
If you want to add your pictures you can either upload them to a free public image hosting service and then link to them in your post, or contact me here and I’ll email you with instructions on how to send us the pictures and we’ll add them to your post.
Laura, i have only seen 2 for sale myself prices was around $2200. Dan

Hi Dan,
I’ve updated the pictures of your 1985 K. Yairi AR373E and they look great!
Jason.
Have owned this guitarsince new ,Beautiful condition and stunning to,look at and plays extremely well. I will try and post some pics when i get back home, if anyone is interested?I read somewheremthesemmodels were for, canada only notmsure of that…..thanks Dan
Both of these gorgeous instruments were indeed only sold in Canada and Australia, (signature models). I have a AR377E Cut away that I purchased new in 1985 In Prince George BC. At a local store called Sight and Sound. I paid 3 payments for this guitar of 390 dollars for a total of $1170.00. In 1985, 1170.00 today would be worth approximately 1570.00. When I purchased it back then, I was told that there was only 2 shipped to Canada from Japan. I have seen one AR377E on e-bay a few years ago that sold for 2200 US Included the original hard shell case.
Not sure if this is of any value to you but just to confirm your words….Reason I bought the 77 over the 73 was simply the cut out on the 77E.
Thanks.
Gerard
Mine’s an 84, bought it new. Exactly like yours, I’m thinking. AR373E, the loveliest guitar ever built, signed inside and out. I’ve held onto this one with both hands ever since I bought it. Now I have to think about who to hand it off to when I’m too old and tired and stupid to do justice to Kazuo Yairi’s beautiful creation.
Can one of you post a picture of the AR-373?
I have a 1984 and it is one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever owned.
I have looked at all the Yairi’s online and this one has a few differences than any others I have seen. It is signed inside and outside like you mention. Gold tuners with Yairi logo on them, large oblong abalone fret markers and also abalone around the sound hole with K. Yairi inlay walking down the headstock. It is the pick guard and the bridge that is shaped differently than any guitars I have seen in any other model or picture of Yairis.
These have an ergonomic flow almost like he was adding his own touch to see how it would look.
Is yours also a dreadnought Natural? Anyone have an idea of what they would sell for?
It sounds between a Martin and a really good older Gibson.
Laura, have only seen 2 for sale around $2200.Dan

Know this is a very old post, so won’t add a lot here, if you wish more info follow link near bottom of this post.
The DY92 LUTE BACK is made of alternating pieces (33 in total) mahogany, maple and rosewood. Labor intensive to say the least. Top is solid Spruce. Only second to the DY96 Abalone Supreme (in cost).

A friend of mine recently purchased on of these second hand for aud 2k ( in australia )
then again, a guitar is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
they are very rare and i believe they were produced as some sort of promotional deal.
Only two of these guitars ever made it out to australia. i can find out more if required. cheers

Thanks,

: I purchased a 1982, K. yairi YW 11 SN 22559 in Germany in 1983. Does anybody know anything at all about this model. I love the guitar and play it daily.
Hi Jan! We must be twins without knowing it! Even I bought exactly the same model also in 83, only as 12-stringer not the normal 6. Even I, like you love the guitar and would never part with it. I play it daily too. Now it need new frets because the first 6 are worn down with playing. Sadao Yairi founded the guitar-making practise in Kani, Gifu (Japan of course). Sadao became a legend for his skilled craftsmanship, insisiting on producing only personally hand-made guitars which are a rarity today. He died early 70s. His nephew Kazuo continued the good work but went into mass production although the guitars that came out from that factory in Gifu still kept the high standards that his uncle Sadao had set up. Our guitar belongs to this lot. As far as I know the factory in Gifu closed down or was bought out by Alvarez, an American guitar-producing giant which still produses today Alvarez-Yairis of a respectable standard. I have not tried this new pproduct but I am not sure they compare with ours. Ours is simply fantastic! If you ever want to say goodbye to yours, I’ll buy it off you straightaway. If I were you however, I would hold on to it till I die. Regards. Tel 04101-693711 ( in case you’d like to talk about it!). Joe
