NEW Yahoo group for Alvarez, AY, K. Yairi and S. Yairi's!

Since the Alvarez MB has been down since March , I've been getting a lot of e-mails from those hoping to find information on their guitars~ I spoke with several people at Alvarez and it doesn't look like the board will be up and running any time soon (if ever)!

So, I started a Yahoo Group in the hopes that those that used the old board, will have a place to continue to ask questions and share info on their guitars with others.

yairi model #381/1984

I am looking to purchase the above noted guitar from a person I have never met before. I had not heard of these guitars before so I am wondering what it is worth. It is in good shape and sounds great. it is an electric acoustic. Anyone out there have any idea what it might be worth. The owner says it is signed by Yairi

Why are these models so difficult to find info on? I read they were for export from Japan not to the US but possibly to Australia/Canada?

K. Yairi AR-382 Signed

I’ve had this model since 1984 when it was produced. I’ve owned a lot of guitars and this is still the nicest acoustic/electric I’ve ever owned. Great action, nice cutaway, and the pickup is excellent. No downside to this guitar whatsoever.. Not looking to sell, just confirming that some of them are still out here. Played it for over 30 years and hardly a scratch on it. Treat it like a baby...

K. Yairi AR570 classical

I have a beautiful, though beat-up, AR570 classical guitar, hand-crafted in 1983 and signed by K. Yairi. This surfaced in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada a couple of years ago and I was lucky enough to purchase it for $555. It has a cedar top (cracked a bit, but repaired); Brazilian rosewood back and sides (I think that at least the back is solid,) as well as bridge, and headstock veneer; a one piece (no splices,) quarter-sawn mahogany neck with an ebony reinforcing strip; ebony fretboard. As you might expect, it has a rich, vibrant tone that makes $3000 Ramirez models sound like plywood by comparison.

Yairi AR570

I have a 1983 AR 570 also signed by Mr. Yairi.
Beautiful Cedar top with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, with Ebony fretboard.
The guitar is an exact copy of an A-1.
It sounds like the exact guitar described above.
No cracks or repairs on this one.
I would like to sell it.
If interested, please let me know as it will go up on ebay soon.
Best Regards,

We have two AR-516's and have found the same problem -- no information anywhere on them. We have had them since around 1984 and love them dearly. We live in Canada and bought them new in Vancouver on Hastings Street from a store that no longer exists.

AR 516

I have the same problem getting information. It's an AR-516 (1986), purchased from a store in Calgary that's long gone. Shortly after I purchased a Yairi flamenco in 1992, I heard Yairi stopped selling in Canada because of a very poor exchange rate.
