I have just purchased a kay jazz2 I belive. It has a Gretsch label inside with model # 4xxxAR no serial # on it but when I checked the back of the inside the f hole it was stamped L8721 which I believe is a Kay Model.I understand in some early years pre war that Kay made some Gretch Guitars. Anybody have any thoughts on this Guitar

Hello All
Got the KC333 recently….filed down the saddle and ….wow what a sound it produces. I am sure it’s a laminate top.
Would love to know the age too it looks pretty old to me.

I learned to play classical guitar on a Kay KC265.
Which I believe to be a 3/4 guitar my mother took me to the music scene around 1979/80 it cost around££40 which wasn’t dirt cheap.
I was still playing it a good 25 years later and it was lovely to play.
Unfortunately it was destroyed. A few days ago I got a 333 it looks like it has never been played so hopefully I will get 25 years out of this one at £10 I can’t moan.
I have a KC 333 made in GDP with a very good leather cover…don’t know the year and would like to know details as I want to sellit. Also, I have a Fender Stratocaster made in Japan with a serial number. It’s a bit dirty, two pick-ups work and facia has a couple of chips, otherwise, as I’m a drummer the lead guitarist did use it. Have and idea it’s late 80’s early nineties, want to sell it.
i’ve got one from 1983 and the tone is as good as the day it was bought. it cost me £23 at the time which wasn’t cheap. lovely guitar to play, slightly smaller than full dreadnought. didn’t know it was german in origin (model no KC110)if anyone has more info e=mail me as i’d love to know more about them.
i have a kc 333 which i bought used in 1983. played nearly every day since. lovely guitar. didn’t know until today it was from germany. so have learned something eh.
I remember asking this question years ago. I still don’t have a date for it or how much it’s worth.
It’s had a repair since however. Too high of a gauge was place on it and ripped the bridge off the body. 🙁
I bought this guitar for my so to learn when he was 12yrs old, just looking at some of his music books they are dated 1993 so prob the guitar is approx 20yrs old
I want to learn how to find date of manufacture for Kay archtop accoustic/electric 1 pickup. Numbers stamped inside are L-3352 6533. I need info to sell this guitar
Can you please tell me what year my Kay acoustic guitar is, and anything you may know about it. On the top of the neck it has a big K kay inside of a circle and it says established 1890. Inside the guitar it says K503 and handwriting 1016. Thank you, Rebecca Whittaker
: I have a Kay Guitar # K30-5830, does anyone know its age and value.I would appreciate any information I can get, Thanks ,melissa the number inside the guitar is k410
I have a Kay acoustic.
pickguard has what appears to be a native american eagle on the pickguard holding sometype of 70’s reel to reel. reel.it has a floral patteren etched or burned into the back of it. there is a lable insie that you can easily read kay guitar and made in Korea, but the model number appears to have been written in pencil and is hard to read.
t-17 could be t-120 i can find no photos on the internet that even resemble this guitar. Anyone have a clue?
I have a guitar I just bought for cheap. It’s a Kay hollowbody electric with one pickup, red paint body, white pickguard. Emblems are a white K encircled on headstock, and gold K on pickguard. The only identifying numbers are a 09 inside body visible through removable panel in back. Please help if anyone can. Thanks

I just started playing guitar with an old rebel named Angus Walker (A pioneer of Canadian Country and Bluegrass….he wrote Deisel Drivin’ Man… toured extensively in the seventies world wide as The Prime Minister of Country Music). He handed me this old Kay 44 to pick on… what a lovely, bright sounding guitar. His Mom bought it for him over 50 years ago and it sounds great. Angus recieved a Maple Leaf music award in 1965 for the most promising country singer(him and Gordon Lightfoot). Soon after the awards became the Grammy’s. So Keep your eyes peeled and your ears wide open for The Cape Breton Rebel – Angus Walker- and his Cape Breton Rebel Band. We’re heading for the studio…

I have a guitar with k44 8405 stamped in it. I know it to be over 60 years old. If you have one with the same number in it, then it can’t be one of a kind. Is it a model number? Tell me what you can. Thanks!
one of my friends has 3 kay guitars from around 1950 maybe earlier…..he has 1 electric version that kinda resembles a telecaster and 2 dreadnought acoustics…..how much would they sell 4?

: I just bought a Les Paul copy probably made in Japan.
: It is proported to be made in the 70’s.
: It has no identifying name or serial number.
: The big difference it is a quasi-copy of a Les Paul Recording….with multiple built in electronic effects
: Phase in and out
: Echo
: Tremolo
: Wah
: Whirlwind
: Fuzz
: also with a headphone jack.
: all the effects work fine.
: I sent a picture to Gruhn Guitars in Nashville, and heard back from Walter Carter (the author) that it was a Kay…that’s all the information I received.
: Anyone else know anything about it??

hey John,
sounds just like the one I bought from Mongomery Ward’s catalog about 30 years ago…..

It was one of Kay’s last efforts in the mid ’60’s, and it was called the Effx.

I bought exactly the same guitar a few years ago and had the same problem identifying the real manufacturer.
Mine has a logo "Almirez", but I have been told too that these were distributed under the brand "Kay" in the states and "Almirez in Europe"
Could we by any means exchange pictures of our respective stuff, and especially would it be possible to obtain a picture of the internal wiring on your guitar, as I have a big problem with the electronics on mine.
It’s supposed to be good stuff.
Check here : http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Guitar/product/Kay/Les+Paul+Copy/10/1
And here : http://www.musictoys.com/articles/chop5101.php
There must be a model without effect which would not be far as good, according to the comments in Harmony Central.
Hope that helps a little bit.

I have a vintage Kay electric archtop acoustic guitar- model L4-form the early 1930’s! would like to hear from anyone that may know more information about this guitar, or if anyone would want to buy this guitar! Thanks
I have an electric Kay bass with a Gibson EB style body. 30" scale. 1 LARGE humbucking pickup centered. The pickguard runs the length of the body similar to the Kay SG style guitars and there’s a little flower image near the front. One volume, one tone. The head stock has the chrome circle K logo. Typical covered bridge from the era. The odd thing is that the body seems too small. Like the neck came from another guitar, but it fits a photo I saw in a catalogue once. Because of this the bass is top heavy and there’s considerable wear around the neck like somebody attached the strap at the neck and played the instrument that way for a long time, which again makes me think everything is original. It’s had more that a few paint jobs (including the two I added). I bought it for $70 in 1995. I’m actually thinking of making a new body of my own design for it.
Anyway, I just thought I’d throw this out there for all you curious Kay folks…

I bought my Jumbo L3616 8127 in 1960 …its a 19 fret, steel re-enf neck, spruce top, inlays. Judging from the serial#, the L2135 must be a few years older than mine.

I have been researching the same model.I’m not sure where they are made,I’m sure somewhere in Asia. But to figure out the year you need to find the serial number.I think the way to figure out the year of manufacture is, the last two didgets are the year it was made, and the numbers before the last two are the order that it was made that year in that given factory.Good Luck,
Jeff

Well call me goofy I see you have your serial number posted.I guess I was not paying close enough attention. It looks like it was made in 1976 and was the 20402nd one made that year in that factory.Hope it helps you out.

I got me a Kay 475 yesterday, its been sitting in a disaster house for years, looks like the same strings, Its a project guitar at this point, but I am going to try to make it come alive, the bridge is plastic and its cracked, so I have replaced it with a wood one, the saddle is plastic, I changed that out to bone, the pickguard is steel and in perfect shape, neck looks good, no adjustment, but it has a steel reinforced neck, says made in Korea on the back headstock, sderial number 230776, so I guess its a 1976, the flat top body is not flat, has a belly up behind the bridge, and sunk down in front of the bridge, I added a few temporary braces, I got a 30lb brick sitting on top of it right now, I moistened the inside of the sound hole, also added a cup with water, sealed it up and set the whole thing in at sunny spot in the house, if my little project works, great, if not, it might make a good paddle for my canoe. What ever happens, it will be better than when received.
Hi My name is Gary and I wonder if anyone could please email me with any information they may have on an acoustic Kay guitar I recently perchased at a yard sale. It has a full body that closely resembles that of a J45 Gibson acoustic that a friend of mine has, and it also is finished with a blonde color face with a couple of black accent circles around the hole, the rest has a dark wine almost black body finish. The Kay logo had been removed long ago only leaving the outline of where it had been and also the pick guard was removed, both these had been held on with screws. If you look inside the hole you can plainly see stamped the numbers 339, now what I’m wondering is could it mean 3rd month as in March and 39 like in 1939? If anyone knows what this stamped number means could they please email me with any information, it would be greatly appreciated and thankyou.

Can anyone tell me what company made this guitar. I bought it used 32 years ago and the man that I bought it from said it was 25 years old then and that he had given 125 dollars for it when it was new. I have tried and tried to find who made it and so far I have had no luck except some iffy mention of kay. Can anyone help me out here? I sure would appreciate it. thank you.
Can you send me a picture of the Rex Royal headstock, I’ll know what we have then. [email protected]
I want to buy one of these to replace one I had from the past…
I have one I bought in a pawn shop for 65 bucks because it was so neat looking. I’ve only used it as a wall hanger and the few times I played it, it had a nice boinga boinga sound like you would hear on the old spaghetti westerns. (Or on Steve Earles’s "Guitar Town".) I did a google search and only found seven references to it and am trying to find out more information. It still has it’s original ID sticker with the model number and S/N 740126 and Japan right after it. I always figured it was a Teisco subcontracted to Kay in the early to mid sixties.
I would like some more info. I’m cleaning out a mess of my old guitar collection and will probably sell it on Ebay.
Email if you have more info – thanks.
John
: I have one for sale. Only one I’ve ever seen. Do you have one? Got any pics?

howdy. I have a neighbor in his 80s without a computer, and a fading recollection of how much he paid and when. It’s very cool looking, but not that easy to play, which may be adjustable. He pushes it through a Peavy Backstage 30. He knows I play, he needs the $ and he’s got some aunt who wants to give him nothing for it, because he needs the $. What would be a fair value if he wanted to sell it. It’s not my thing, but does it have any collectible value? A real nuisance that Kay doesn’t keep a list if this stuff by serial #, which I have but doesn’t do any good, apparently.
We have a guitar my dad always played. he referred to it as an Old Craftsmen. It if a metal guitar with a bronzy color to it. It is very old, at least 50-60 years! help me to get info please.
I am not sure when it was made, but I am holding K5113 5500.
It’s a sweet sounding guitar that I got from a pawn shop in the seventys for 10 or 15 bucks.I hope you learn more as I would like to know more about mine also.
I too have no clue, but I just picked up #K5113 5539 at an auction this weekend for $30. It lacked the Kay name on it and only marking was the serial number inside the body. Based on this chain, i must conclude it’s most likely a Kay. I bought it because it sure had a sweet, mellow sound.
Hello, I’m wondering if any of you might have any ideas what model and year this guitar is? Thanks for any help. It looks like a Gibson 135? Tobacco Sunburst. It says "Kay" Vintage Series on the headstock underneith it says "since 1890.
I need to know how old is my Kay K250 serie 280875. She have 2 beautiful pickguards with flowers. She have thin body. Do you know this guitar…..i find any database about that…….thanks.
I have my grandfathers old Kay guitar with L9627 stamped inside. It has a spot for a amplifier plug i guess to be plugges into it but its and acoustic style. My grandfather typically only bought the best stuff so just wondering how old this actually is, whats its possible value might be. Not that I would sell it for even a million dollas because I remember him playing this in church and it means the world to me. I would really just like to get a year it was made so I know about how old it is. Thanks
Ok I got this K-1 at a antique shop for 60 dollars and it was in perfect condition, plays great, sounds great, and looks great. I was wondering how much it would be worth. It is missing no parts and is in mint condition.
I would love to find some information on my Kay 40. It’s Flamed Maple with a natural Spruce top, tortoise binding and toroise pick guard. The headstock has a tortoise face plate and a really cool Art Deco script Kay, with "40" below it in white and gold. Kluson 3-on-a-plate tuners. The finger board is Brazilian RW with a center section of Maple that runs the entire length. Pictures can be seen here: http://www.pbase.com/slater/kay_40

I found a set of 3 kay nylon guitar picks, at a second hand store the other day. They are still in there original packaging and have never been opened. I have not been able to find any info on them as the are not made anymore.
The model is p-3.
I was wondering if anyone knows anything about them or if they are now worth anything?
: I have a nick lucas guitar that I alway’s thought was a kay can anyone help.
I also have a kay maybe silvertone with nick lucas name scripted at top of head with f-holes notfully cut at the ends. Its a mystery to everyone supposedly knowledgable about vintage guitars.
Joy, did you find out any info on your guitar? I posted 2 up from you on a Kay L6224 N-2, I thought if you knew some more on yours it could help me, the numbers are pretty close. Mine is a 3/4 or 1/2 size guitar. Ray

I have my father’s old classical guitar, and I still play it all the time. The only thing I know about it is the info in the subject line, and that it’s older than I am by a fair margin, and I’m 42. I’m also looking for info.

Wondering what year and I am trying to get a case but can’t find one big enough.

I have a Kay KC333 but can’t get a capo to fit the neck. Can anybody suggest one that fits or were they meant to be played without a capo?
Thanks
Any info on a Kay with this serial # L 6200? It is an archtop single pickup with the pot and volume knob in the pickguard
does anyone know any info on this guitar? is it classical or acoustic? the strings on it are half nylon and half steel is that normal?
I have a Kay Guitar # K30-5830, does anyone know its age and value.I would appreciate any information I can get, Thanks ,Dwayne

We had to go to this website http://www.kayvintagereissue.com/downloads.html
and look through the old catalogs till we found our 1954 Spanish Electric K151. Good Luck

Check here :

And here :

I have been researching the same model.I’m not sure where they are made,I’m sure somewhere in Asia. But to figure out the year you need to find the serial number.I think the way to figure out the year of manufacture is, the last two didgets are the year it was made, and the numbers before the last two are the order that it was made that year in that given factory.Good Luck,
Jeff

Rex Royal instruments were made by Gretsch. That’s about all Ii know about them, but you could try a Google on the name to see what turns up.

Email if you have more info – thanks.

What is the year whenthis guitar was made ?
: What is the year whenthis guitar was made ?
Thanks

Thanks,Bill

I can’t find a model or serial number on my Kay. Can you help me?
I found a set of 3 kay nylon guitar picks, at a second hand store the other day. They are still in there original packaging and have never been opened. I have not been able to find any info on them as the are not made anymore.
The model is p-3.
I was wondering if anyone knows anything about them or if they are now worth anything?
I believe that it is a 3/4 or 1/2 size, could anybody tell me about it or where to go to research it. Thank You
I have a nick lucas guitar that I alway’s thought was a kay can anyone help.
