I have acquired a wooden rocking horse with a plate on it. The name is walt Marston, Jackson NH, #147. Can you tell me more about it and if you are the person who carved it?
    Thanks!

      Hi,
The person who carved your rocking horse is the same Walt Marston that builds guitars and gunleather! If you could send pictures of your rocking horse, he can qualify when it was built and what grouping it was in. He has always been a ‘one-man show’ so if you have one of his rocking animals it is truly worth it’s weight in gold.
His current love is working with leather and natural-shed antler and bone to make gun holsters and gun grips! http://www.marstongunleather.com and while he doesn’t currently have a site up for the guitars we have been thinking of posting a site with as many of his pieces as we have from pictures sent to us as well as new projects his is working on!
      thanks for your interest!

Mr Marston no longer does rocking animals, sorry that was from about 30 years ago!
He has, as an artist done many things guitar building, rocking carousel-style animals, his own furniture, and now he is happily
making a name for himself with his incredible leather work – http://www.marstongunleather.com
Thanks for your interest, and best of luck!

Hi, I also have a Walt Marston rocking moose (#328) which was given to me when i was born in 1986. I am interested in selling it but i can’t find any record online of one being sold recently and I have no idea of its value. My mother said that her aunt paid around $900 for it in ’86. if you have any info or advise that could help me with its value I’d greatly appreciate it!
        Thanks!

          Hi,
Mr. Marston is 73 and he has a leather business, no more guitars or rocking animals or furniture!
I would tell you it is worth it’s weight in gold – don’t sell it if you don’t have to, if you DO have to I’d sell it on eBay for alot.

      Hi Rob!

      : Dear Walt,
: I’m wondering if I have one of your creations. It’s a beautiful handmade acoustic. Flame maple I think? I acquired it around 15 years ago from a musician / Luthier friend.Unfortunately he passed away and I have no clue as to its history.
: The head has a brass Marston signature along with two brass and pearl squiggly designs inlayed in it. The truss rod cover is also pearl.
: The pick guard is wood, rosette is oval and there is a wood plug at the bottom of the cut-out where a volume control went. I don’t know if it was originally an electric acoustic or just an acoustic that was a modified later and then reversed?
: Inside the guitar in pencil has the name Brad on one side and initials JC on the other. I can find no other markings.
: Despite some chips, cracks, and holes from modifications over the years the guitar is still playable and absolutely beautiful. A work of art!
: I’m really curious as to the guitars origin/history and would be happy to send photos .
: Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.
      : Best Regards,
      : Rob A
      Hi Rob,
sounds like it’s one of Walt’s for sure!
if you would be kind enough to send him pictures : [email protected] I’m sure he can give you all of the details – additionally, this year I have decided to build a new Marston Guitars website, and I want to devote a page or two to these older pieces that folks have sent pictures of, along with the ‘how I found it’ story!
      regards,
      Pam – Walt’s wife and webbuilder 🙂

          Dear Pam and Walt:

I sent pictures back in August per your instructions but never heard back from you.

I’m sorry my reply took some time but unfortunately I had other priorities.

Were you able to open the pictures?

Is the guitar one that was made by Walt?

          Best Regards,

            Peggy

Hi Walt and Pam! John’s ex-wife Peggy. You made “Battle Cat” (#50), wooden rocking Lion for John’s son Kyle’s second birthday in exchange for lessons! Kyle still has Battle Cat, but needs to restore him as he was submerged in a flood. 🙁 Kyle’s hope is to get that down in the next couple years in time for his own child to rock on it someday. You do awesome woodwork and created many wonderful memories!

      1. I had the privilege of
        Anonymous

I had the privilege of playing one of Walt Marston’s guitars when I was in high school & working for Val Mollineaux at the guitar & drum workshop. He had asked Val if he would sell it for him. As I recall Walt had some type of emergency situation & he was trying to raise cash. So the finish on it was not the high gloss one would normally see on his creations, as he had not had time to buff & polish it as he normally would. However, it was a beautiful wide body jazz guitar with cutaway & incredible inlay work on the peghead & fretboard. I was offered the guitar for $300. I didn’t have the $300 at the time & was reluctant to advance it from my boss even though he offered. I was told that Walt buffed out & polished the finish to mirror like luster & sold it to someone from France for $1,700. One of the best guitars I have ever played & let slip through my fingers.

      2. To Anyone Interested in Walt Marston's work:
        Pam Marston

If you have pictures of guitars that Walt made, or rocking animals you have, we always love to see them! The newest site is marstongunleather.com and you can see what he’s into now – gun grips, INLAID gun grips, leather gun holsters for single action, law enforcement, and hunters. The signature quality work is easy to see and he continues to design and create even in this new venture!
THANKS to all who have kept his name and work alive 🙂
