Comments on a D'Agostino acoustic guitar

I recently picked up my husband's D'Agostino acoustic guitar and am considering fixing it or just starting from scratch and buying a new acoustic guitar. It's a PMS New York model : D-45. Does anyone know anything about this guitar? Is it made from laminated board or a single wood piece (top)...is it any good? I have had a hard time playing chords that I usually play alright on an electric or on a classical guitar. The strings are really old so I attribute some of the loss of sound to this. Any thoughts about this guitar will be greatly appreciated.
