Re: martin coletti guitars

: Dear Terry,

: Over the last 30 years or so, I have come across four Martin Coletti guitars, all of them cello or "f" hole types and all to the same design. Each and every time I have tried one, I have been struck by both its tone and potential. About a year ago, I finally took the plunge and exchanged a Maccaferi type guitar for a Martin Coletti which clearly needed a good set-up and a refret. I'm glad I did for it is a better instrument than the Mac. Age I don't know but would guess early 1950's. My instrument is an acoustic cutaway, has a 16" lower bout, is 3" deep, is one and three-quarter inches at the nut and has three parallel, diagonal white plastic (?) stripes at the fifth, seventh and twelfth frets.

: As for origin, those in the know suggest that, despite the name, these are not Italian made instruments but were manufactured in eastern Europe .... East Germany, Czechoslovakia or, possibly, Munich

: Hope these notes may be of interest,

: Regards,

: Mike Wilson

Hello, I also have a Coletti guitar with only 4 strings. Model G62. Is it a type of Ukulele? Any help appreciated.

Re: martin coletti guitars

Hey,
I also have a Martin Coletti guitar. The model number is G60 and it is signed by the maker. I bought it for a tenner off a chap who obviously didn't value it's charms.
It has a mother of pearl star inlay on the headstock and little m.o.p flowers on the spotted frets. What surprises me is that the neck is a good 2 frets longer than most spanish guitars, which made me suspect that it may be steel strung - however, there is no truss rod so I haven't risked this.
The label reads: "Martin Coletti-American Model Guitars(foreign)"

Any more info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: martin coletti guitars

I am also trying to get some info on a martin coletti that belongs to my father in-law and not having much luck, but i do know that it was bought with gut strings on it and a chromed tailpiece, i will try to find the serial no.
hope that is a bit of help.

Re: martin coletti guitars

: Does anyone out there know any history at all about martin coletti guitars.I have a model no 2776 and am wondering how it should be strung i.e. steel or nylon and was the chromed metal tailpiece originally there. It is a beautiful little guitar comparible in sound and build quality to a pre war Martin and I'm very pleased with it, but WHO,WHERE and WHEN were/was Martin Coletti.Somebody please tell me.

Dear Terry,

I am in a similar boat to yourself, having come into posession of lovely little Martin-like guitar clearly at least sixty years old, bearing a shield on the headstock with the legent Martin Coletti, but all it has on the label inside is 'American Model'. Your message is the first reference I have come across to this make in four years of searching, so I can't help you yet, but if I find out anything I'll let you know. Please do likewise!

Yours

Jacek

Re: martin coletti guitars

Had a Martin Coletti archtop orange sunburst cutaway a distinctive white floating wooden bridge white block position markers on rosewood board .bought at Heaps music shop Blackpool late 50/early60's.fitted a pickup and used it in beat groups in the North west. Have a photo somewhere My feeling is that it was made in Italy & I bought it new for approx 50 guineas.Eventually went to a chap called John Fyffe who had some success in a group called the'Settlers'. My main group was the 'Trespassers & we did ok once appearing with the'Beatles' , but thats another story!

Re: Vega Guitar history - Alpha guitars

I have an Alpha A69(or g?)05(or s?)acoustic guitar which I bought new around 1980. I was told that it was one of around 1000 imported from Holland, made, I was told, at the Vega factory. The label says 'Alpha hand made musical instruments'. It has a back very similar to a friend's Martin and is inlaid with mother-of-pearl (unless it's plastic!). Does anyone have any information about Alpha guitars?

Suzuki WT 150 guitar

I'm an hobby player:
Does anybody know which guitar is it?
How are the performances?
Do you suggest to buy it?

Re: Suzuki WT 150 guitar

I too recently acquired a Suzuki W-150 six string. Not a WT-150. It has a beautiful action and sounds awesome. The neck, housing an adjustable truss rod is as straight as an arrow and fits my hand like a glove. There are perloid inlays across the middle base and rear of the guitar. It has a maple top with binding, rosewood fretboard with dot inlays and the headstock carries the Suzuki & Co. Est. 1951 logo in gold lettering. The label inside has Kiso Suzuki Violin Company printed on it.

Hayman was essentially a continuation/extension of Burns guitars London, which then evolved into Shergold guitars. Go to the only site available (excellent by the way) for all this info which is http://www.shergold.co.uk Hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck

I have a Hayman 2020 semi acoustic. I've had it since 1971 and it is in excellent - almost mint - condition. I haven't got a clue what it's worth - all I know is it is a very individual guitar and one that I have been proud to own for 30 years. It is sycamore with a maple neck - a really beautiful guitar...Mark Harvey

Re: Cortez Les Paul copy ?????

I'm not sure how long ago your message about the Paul copy was posted, and whether or not it's still relevant. I've actually been looking for a Cortez copy to use parts for one that I already have. Even if it isn't in your possession anymore, I'd love to see pictures of it if you have any. Thanks

Dean Acoustics Guitar

Looking for some information on the Dean Acoustics guitar. I found a shop that says the Dean Tradition One is the "high end" guitar for someone like myself that is a beginner. The guitar sounds great from the other lower cost end guitars that were demonstrated.
Knowing nothing, and being a true beginner, I asked for a good guitar to learn on and I wanted it to last andnot have to worry about it falling apart.
Any help from those who are more than a beginner would be appreciated. Buy the way the dealer said he would give me a carrying bag, book, video, humidifier, picks, tax out the door for $380.00!!!

I have the Dean Tradition -- but the fancy model with all the Vine inlay on the neck. I have 20 guitars. The Dean is impressive even among top of the line Martins and Gibsons. Many play my guitars and are impressed with the Dean. Go for it!
