I have some pictures of my guitar. Interested to get them to compare?

        It is still good looking.

May be we can change some expressions.

I have a Model W 350. Can anyone help with looking up the serial numbers to see how old this is? It seems to be solid wood back and sides but I’m not sure of this. How much is 800 DM in US $? I wonder if I can still get parts for it. I was surprised how good it sounds. My father-in-law died and left it to me.

I am the proud owner of this great guitar but can not seem to find ANY information on the comapany let alone the W-180. Anny comments would be appreciated please email me directly.

    Josh

Has anyone heard of a "West" brand guitar? I purchased one recently and it seems to me to be a fairly accurate les paul copy. In fact the guitar looks very similar to a Les Paul studio but it is a flat top. I really enjoy playing the guitar and it sounds great.. I was just wanting to find a little history.. If anyone knows anything about it email me please… [email protected]

Hi, I’m inexperienced when it comes to guitars and I’d like a little help. First, and this may seem silly, but will most guys like a guitar for a gift? I’ve been with my boyfriend for 5 years, and he’s never really shown interest. But I think he could get into one. He’s a fin. advisor, very busy. What do you think? Also, I’m trying to choose between 3 inexpensive guitars–Takamine, Johnson, and Spencer. Which is best? Thanks.

Heit guitars were made by Teisco , when importing them into the
U.S, the name was changed for whatever reason to Heit , Kent, kingston etc. One of my first Bass guitars was a Teisco ,and sounded great. I recently purchased a Heit Bass on e-bay for $75.00 , and the pick up was identical to the ones used on the Teisco Bass . Their are a few sites devoted to the Teisco
Guitars , and i suggest having a good look at the hardware on your Heit , and compare them to the pics on their sites, you should find this interesting.

I dont have any info on Heit guitars but I’m looking, hence I found this site. I did have a Heit in my teens (28 yr.s ago) and wish I still had it. It had a great neck!

    6. Re: HEIT guitar
      Andy

I have a Heit Deluxe. I don’t know much about the company, but the guitar looks characteristic of a circa 1960’s guitar with its black, red, and amber sunburst. Also, the finish checking and chips point to many years of use. Here’s my story:

I fixed it up, and it plays pretty good. Concerning quality, it is about like an upscale beginner guitar in the $200-250 price range. Mine has 4 single coil pickups, each with an on-off switch. It has a zero fret and it originally had a cheap trem with a fixed bridge, kinda like a really, really cheap Bigsby vibrato. It also had cheap tuners with plastic buttons.

Here’s what I did to repair it: I took everything apart to start with. That was a learning experience 🙂 I determined that I would need to replace the tuners and the bridge. I ordered the parts from Carvin. I cleaned everything up. I also glued tin foil to the inside of the body cavity and the back side of the pickguard. It is not silent, but I’m sure the shielding helped reduce noise. I noticed the neck pocket looked like it had a chip in it on the edge, so I used a mixture of wood and superglue to reshape it a little. It fit tighter, but it was still quite loose. More on that below. The volume and tone pots were very good in my opinion. Maybe not as good as most standard Strat pots, but still very tolerable. I put everything together and strung it up.

Some comments about playing…tuning is a little funny. It has a very loose neck joint, and it can be knocked out of tune very easily, even by putting the guitar on a stand. I was able to get a very good action the way I set it up. I had to adjust the truss rod a little, and the bridge is almost as low as it will go, but the action is pretty good. I actually prefer the way the neck feels on my Heit better than my brother’s Mexican Standard Strat.

All in all, I would say it is well worth the $55 in parts that I spent. It beats having no electric guitar. I would think twice before recording with it, though. The tuning can be frustrating. By the way, the pickups are the fattest, warmest single coils I have ever heard. It is great for some types of music, but ALL of the pickups are characteristically very fat, and it has about 2 sounds: FAT at the bridge and FATTER at the neck. The middle two pickups sound just about like the neck pickup.

I purchased a D’agostino double cutaway solid body electric guitar in 1982 from a guitar shop in the Bronx. It was red with tan colored pickups, ebony fingerboard with abalone inlays and had D’agostino written in abalone on the body. It was a really great guitar. I met the man who owned the company and I believe mine was one of his first. It was stolen from a Allied moving truck when I moved to Tuscaloosa Alabama in 1988 along with a lot of other personal belongings. I miss it very much and it was a really great guitar! I heard that the quality dropped and the company may have gone under, but I don’t know that for sure. Judging by the one that I had, they made at least one very well made easy playing guitar!

I just bought a D’Agostino solid body. I have some information, though not much. Mine was manufactured–or to be more accurate–hand made–in Italy, in a small guita shop that was purchased by Eko guitars. It was eventually moved to Japan, where the Benchmark I and II were maufactured later. That’s about all I know. Feel free to contact me if you have any specific questions.

Please help me out with any information you have on non-Les Paul Sekova solid body electrics, or the brand name history in general. Thanks Very Much!

      Hi
I have a Sekova acoustic that I purchased in Pittsburgh in the ’80’s…i don’t know the model. It was left in an attic through very hot summers and freezing winters and the neck pulled away from the body. 🙁
I know that guitarists will cringe, but I glued it back on with crazy glue. That was about 15 years ago. I still have it and it stills plays well and sounds beautiful-and believe it or not I stuck an Earvana nut on it and the intonation problems were solved.
      Miracle Guitar! 🙂

      Tom

I own a black Sekova Les Paul copy. I bought it around 1975. It is a beautiful guitar with mother of pearl inlay, gold tuners and pickups. It actually has a great action but does not measure up to a quality guitar in tone. Mine has a hum problem that I will need to fix but as I rarely play it, I haven’t gotten around to it.

      1. hey there…I find myself in your shoes; I bought a a used Sekova jazz copy bass, back in 1978. it was old THEN!…fast forward to February 2014;…I was reunited with it a few days ago! I have been a gigging musician for a few decades, and that bass was the one that got me started, helping form my style (good habits and bad). I never knew much about it, except that to me, it sounded pretty good at the time. All I really know now, is that they were a low-end Japanese company, that made copies of EVERYTHING… Mine however is the ONLY Sekova, of ANY kind that I have EVER seen…I hope more info becomes available…..for my part, I WILL refurbish it, and take it on stage soon!

          Hi,

Just to let you know that I just bought one. 4 pickups,
wheel-knobed, side mounted pots, slide-switches. The body has horns that curl way around, and it looks a little like some ‘Burns’ guitars I’ve seen, but with a fender look-a-like head-stock. The neck is bolt-on. I, too, am curious and will let you know if I can learn something.

: : : I am researching the Sekova line of guitars, specifically ones made in the late 60’s early 70’s. I have a Sekova dreadknot guitar I have had since 1976. I have not been able to find much information about the Sekova line at all and what I have found has been about the electric guitars so I too would love to hear about this line.

I have a Sekova guitar for sale. I bought it from a friend who played in the 70’s. My son took a few lessons, and decided he didn’t want to play anymore. If anyone is interested in the details, please send me an e-mail and I can send pics.

            Thanks!

    8. Re: Sekova 60's guitar - any info at all?
      Louise Kronvall

I have a 60’s(?) Sekova electric that I bought at a flea market not long ago. The body shape is similar to a Fender Duo-Sonic, with a silver pick guard sort of shaped like the state of Texas. It’s red, with a red finished neck and one pickup. I looked all over for a serial number, and couldn’t find anything, unless maybe it’s tucked away inside somewhere.
I bought it because I liked it, but mainly I bought it because it had a complete and working Tremar – arm and set screw and everything(!!) I had originally thought I would take it off and use it to replace the stripped tremolo on my Hagstrom III, but I’ve decided to let it stay where it is for now, because I like the Sekova so much.
So I don’t know how much this helps your research, but they made them in red, they made Fender copies, and they used Hagstrom-style tremolos.

Do u still have the Sekova tele? I bought a blonde Sekova tele about a year ago. Have not seen anything like this one anywhere. Looks like a Fender. Top loader, hot pickups, very fast maple neck… the guy I bought it from (not original owner) said it was an early 70’s model. Send a pic and let’s see if they are similar.

I got a Sekova bass when I joined my first band in 1971.
The price of that guitar was $175.00 I was 15 years old. It was avery authentic looking copy of a Gibson EB3 with a cherry finish. I still have that bass and will hang on to it because it was my first guitar. It does need a new bass pickup, the treble pickup is still working.

      1. Sekova Bass - SG/EB3 style
        Rodger Enloe

I have been playing bass for more than 45 years and have owned/played many brands and models from basic entry level cheapos to top of the line Rickenbackers (wish I still had that one). My current basses of choice are Fender Jazz basses and an Ibanez 5 string with Bartolinis.
A couple of years ago I ran across a Sekova EB3/SG 4 string on Ebay. I bought it because it is very similar to a Gibson EB3L that I owned in the early ’70’s (another one I wish I had kept). When I first got it, I played a few gigs with it, strung it with flatwounds, played a few more gigs and it gradually found it’s way into storage. I recently brought it out because I had shoulder surgery, but had to continue playing, so I figured the short scale would be easier. I was right. I also took the time to hang out with my guitar tech, River, to let him work his magic with a new setup, and also put on a set of Ernie Ball Super Slinkys (45, 65, 80, 100). First practice with that guitar, my band mates just raved about the sound of that bass, and I have to admit, I was amazed. It looks like this bass, which is going to completely change my long standing stage “persona”, WILL become my instrument of choice.
I too have been trying to find information about this bass. It undoubtedly seems to be from the mid ’60’s to mid ’70’s in vintage. It is made in Japan, It IS a VERY GOOD GIBSON CLONE. I haven’t taken a look at what kind of pots it has or who made the pickups. The finish is cherry red and in very good condition as is the neck, truss rod, tuners and bridge. I did remove the damper mechanism. Only one engineering/design flaw. The intonation screws for the A and D strings line up basically behind the string ball, and makes setting the intonation a bit tedious.
If anyone – player, tech, collector, sales person – can give me more information, I would greatly appreciate it. If you feel compelled to answer, please do so at [email protected].
Thanks In Advance and God Bless Always.

      2. sekova violin bass
        tommyzeek

        Hi.

The Sekova guitars were manufactured with components Guyatone And Teisco with very special Pickups, 2.7 k Ohm.
mastil and about 3.7 to 5 k Ohm bridge, pickups highly valued but extremely delicate and very special sound when connected to desface a sound that can not get the best Fender or Gibson is achieved.
In the case of solid guitars they are not wood rechapada but despite what they think some or opinions to some scholars, this veneer is very special and not the veneering common that we know today is very low quality if not the other, this veneering it is made with thin sheets of wood wood. This manufacturing is made to eliminate the problem of bodies and prevent woodworking on drying time. These guitars for which Woods really understands a good and intelligent way of making as good as the massive guitars that obrecen less security.
Pots used are usually mini pots 500k A and B.
The tremolos and bridges are equal to those of any guitar made of his time.
These guitars were manufactured and released to the market with different brands but basically out of the same factory with diferenres names depending on the dealer.
You can have a Teisco or identical Sekova that maybe what the difference is more than a simple screw on the kicker.
        I hope this is useful.

        1. Sekova guitar
          Carol

Hi I purchased a Sekova bass guitar. I was going to restore it for my grandson. It is missing the front plate and the bridge. The electric square things don’t work properly. It is a beautiful guitar though. Is there a place to buy replacement parts for this and is it worth it to do so? It was a project guitar for the ladies father that I bought it from. Just trying to decide what to do with it. I am also considering selling it as a parts guitar since I am having a hard time finding parts. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

        Ellis

Just bought a vintage 1960s Sekova solid body offset double cutaway 2 pick up bass guitar in a cherry red finish. In researching this, I have been unable to find any similar pix nor descriptions of same. Only thing missing is one of the volume control knobs which are either steel or aluminum. Obviously, it needs some work. Not a Mosrite nor a Gibson copy, unsure what the heck they were trying to produce with this particular model. Can anyone help out on ID’ing this puppy? Thx so much.

      5. I just bought a Sekova f-1010 for $50. The lady I bought it from said she bought it new in 1968. It dose not have a serial number but it does have the number 18 stamped on the inside. I was wondering if this was the production number.

      6. Sekova F1010 6-string
        Rhea Eva Odom

I purchased this guitar in 1976 for $75.00. I was told it was a low-grade Martin. It is in excellent condition – the case is a bit worn. The sound is wonderful. Any information on this guitar would be appreciated.

      7. sekova guitarra
        jokin

        Hola.

just picked up a starforce guitar all disasembled, I’m going to build mine just using the body, neck , I read they were outstanding guitars with cheap harware is all, they are known for tuning machines to go after a year or so, n the locking nut would come loose, so project STARFORCE is underway !

    1. Re: KENT GUITAR
      JAM

Kent guitars were made in Japan and Korea from around 1964 thru around 1975. They were an offshoot of the
Teisco company. Teisco made cheap guitars for every company that needed a private label cheap guitar, like
"Lafayette Electronics", "Woolworth’s" and "Montgomery Ward", but not Sears. They were not made by
Hagstrom in Sweden, Hagstrom took to distributing them at one time. Kent guitars are a dime a dozen, since
the Japanese have always flooded the markets with their products, just like they do with cars today.
But "quality" guitars they are not. It wasn’t until Ibanez that guitar making in Japan became serious.

: WHO MANUFACTURED THESE, AND ARE THEY OF ANY VALUE IN TODAY’S
      : VINTAGE MARKET?

As with any "vintage" piece, the value depends on damage, parts replaced, etc. I have a 1960’s semi-hollow body model 35, it is a great guitar, can hold it’s own with any Gibson semi-hollow body, but since it has a little known name it will never be worth what the big boys go for. Kent is a Japanese made guitar. There is an exclusive article on them in the Feb 2002 issue of Guitar Player magazine.

    3. Re: KENT GUITAR
      Charlie Hubbard

I was told that they were contracted out for a store such as (Sears,Wester Auto, etc.) to be made as an inhouse brand. Story goes if the head looks like a Gibson head thats who made it, same with fender. each year a new company was to make that model. this came from a guy who (back in the day) play them exclusively cause he got the quality without paying the hi dollar price. I haven’t been able to prove or disprove this.
I own one and was told the according to the style of bridge it’s late 60ish at the newest and it’s a hollow body. As far as value I was offered $300 for mine (but can’t offer any more than that).

Don’t know who manufactured but I am looking for one – a 1960’s model that looks like a strat (kinda’). It was my first guitar and I would like to find one for sentimental reasons.

Hi, I have a Suzuki SF312 12 string made in Nagoya Japan.
It looks like a martin and is of good quality. I understand that Suzuki tried to compete with the high end martins and couldn’t establish themselves. They are highly though of in europe.
Thats all I can find out about it. If you find a site with info please email me. thanks

One og my lifetime guitar mysteries, is a Les Paul copy I owned in the seventies called Kay-Wood, with the name on a metal plate on the headstock. Might this be a Kay Les Paul? This guitar had a set neck, gold top finish, and sold by a music shop whos owner lived parttime in the USA, and the rest of the time in Sweden.

I have a Marlin Loner Strat copy lead guitar I bought it for £80 about18 years second hand. It is the best guitar I’ve ever owned or played & I’ve had a few in my time. It has 2 humbuckers at the bridge & neck position & a single in between. It has a 5 position selector switch & 2 seperate toggle switches which allow you to swith the humbuckers off/on. It’s great for playing Shadows style type music.

Well Frank, for what it is worth, back in the early seventies I owned an EKO 12-string and loved it. She was my first guitar, I learned to play on six strings and in six months went to the full twelve. If yours is anything like mine it was a beast with great tone and very loud. The neck block inside the bell looked like a hunk of 4×4. It was practically indestructable. On the way to a party it once jumped out of the back of a pick-up truck on a bumpy dirt road without the protection of a case and it hit the ground head first. It didn’t even get knocked out of tune. If I’m not mistaken it is an Italian product. I would love to own one again. I hope you enjoy yours.

Right Frank.First thing about your EKO.HANG ON TO IT.It will serve you well and Eko’s are fast becoming cult items. The J56 was made between 1952 and 1957 when it was up gunned to become a Ranger Model so yours is between 45 and 50 years old.Dont worry if your mates rib you about it. It is the flagship workhorse of the guitar world and virtually bombproof to take busking or just jamming around> Get a few Jesse Fuller records and you’ll see what a 12 is really capable of.Good Luck Man.From:- The Doctor
