like to know the price of a 1965 Gretch TENNESSAN with CHET ATKINS sig. on pick guard, guitar is in excelent shape, case shows wear but not broke anywhere, pickguard has one small crack, bought new in 1965,also has the BIGBY VIBRODO

: What would the value be on an orange 6120 Chet Atkins. 1958 singlecut. Guitar has been re-painted professionally.

A refinished ’58 6120 could still bring anywhere from $3,000 to $4,500 depending on other criteria such as:
does it have the original hardware (bridge, tailpiece, pick-ups, tuners, ect.) Also the color and quality of the refinish job is important. The original white case and strap are also worth quite a bit. Obvious defects such as neck cracks, missing or separated binding and bad dings will drive the value down. A ’58 is a still a treasure!

          Dear Ray,

I am visiting my father in Arkansas and he has a Gretch resonator shobro he would like to sell. He had asked me to go on line to try and find the manufacture. When we opened the case last week the tail piece was broken in two. He would like to replace this piece before he advertises it.

He has not priced it as yet but if you are still interested you could email me and I will get the message to him. I will be on the road as of October 9th and will not be getting my emails until the 14th or 15th. I will check to see if you have replied before I get on the road.

          Thank you. Diane

I acquired a Gretsch Burl Ives in 1960 from original owner and had it restored thru Gretsch in 1980. No idea of value, because there doesn’t seem to be much interest in this guitar–and there aren’t many left in circulation.

: I recently got one (burl ives jr.) on ebay. the Gretsch Book says it sold in the early 1950’s for $52. hard to say what it’s worth, but the neck is rosewood, top and back mahogany- it was a copy of the martin 000 series. i’m getting the neck set, action is really high, but this little guitar is LOUD. and quite nice looking

Mother-in-law has serial #9450, 1952-55 Miracle Neck. Please email me with current worth [email protected] Thank you.

I talked to a friend who is into vintage instruments and he told me it was worth about 850 this was about 2 years ago it was in a pawn shop and I got it for alot less than that.

  10. Vintage Gretch
    Carl

I have a pair of Gretrsch archtops that I need help identifying. The finish is a sort of "sunburst" brown with the Gretsch name plate inlayed in what appears to be ivory.
There is a number stamped into the head of the guitars but no other visable ID as to the model or year. The numbers are 1623 and 5616.
Could someone help me learn more about these instruments?

    Thanks,
    Carl

  11. quality of a gretsch
    Paul Selcke

I’m thinking of buying a gretsch. Has anyone had a negative or positive experience with this manufacturer that you would like to describe?

    1. Re: quality of a gretsch
      Dan D.

The Gretsch sound is a very unique sound that has been around for a long time. As you know, Gretsch guitars have been used for many years in every style of music from grunge to the old crooners and jazz of yesterday. I recommend you go to a music store that has Gretsch and compare them(old Gretsch and new Gretsch if possable) to other brands. If you like the sound after the comparison then you know you have found the correct guitar. Be sure to compare through an amp that is like the amp you will be regularly using. Good luck!!

    2. Re: quality of a gretsch
      Warren Wolf

: I have been playing them since early 70s.For good twang I like darmond or hilo tron pickups.I find the filtertrons are too bassy for my taste and they distort at any kind of rock volume.I know the neck shapes vary greatly on older ones.I love em and you have to glue or tape the bridges,You can hear my gretsch on mp3.com

    3. Re: quality of a gretsch
      Ian Vayro

:I have played a lot of Gretsch guitars and they are unique.
The most amazing sound I have ever heard was Brian Setzer with a Gretsch 6120 through 4 Marshall amps. The 6120 and the White Falcon are classics and George Harrison got a good sound from his Duo Jet and Country Gentleman. Go for it you won’t do better. A tip though, don’t use fine strings or you’ll lose the Gretsch sound. For rhythn I use 13’s and for lead 11’s.
