I have a 1978 Ovation Legend “Limited” stereo guitar, and the electronics aren’t working anymore. I’ll be playing in a benefit show, and would like to have it repaired, but don’t know where to take or send it. Anyone know of a reputable person to repair it?

  7. Ovation Celebrity
    Dave M

I just tried to research my Ovation Celebrity by serial #. It says Ovation on the headstock and Kaman made in Korea inside the body on a label. The serial # has 7 digits beginning in 0. Ovation does not show a serial # above 6 digits. I bought it used. Curious if anyone knows this history.

  8. Trying to find information
    Stephen Kavalar

Trying to find information on a Applause model number ae14 serial number 116515 was my father-in-law’s love playing it given to my daughter and she loves it cannot find any information about this guitar

    1. AE 14 Applause guitar
      Al Schrader

Is actually quite valuable. Was one of the first all metal neck with pick-up acoustic guitars.
      The “E” in AE14 means electric pick-up.
Also it has a vinyl body giving the “Electric Light Orchestra” sound, something you can only get with
an Applause or Ovation guitar circa 1970s.
Most people only turn loose of these of they pass on or lose it in a divorce, etc.

  9. Applause AA14 Kaman Music Product
    Tony Graz

I just received a guitar from a friend who had kept it after a mutual friend passed away many years ago. It is pretty beat up. Would like to spruce it up (no pun intended), change strings, et. (Needs a lot of work) Does anyone know where I can get the work done. It may not be worth much but the fellow that passed away was a best friend in my early youth.

  10. Hamer Newport Toggle Switch Buzz
    Chuck The Duck

Here’s a new one… I’m working my magic on a guitar, the pickup selector switch emits a physical buzz in the middle position only, when certain notes are played. Anyone ever have this happen? It’s a semi-hollow body guitar.

    1. OP 24
      Reginald J Morton

Go to Thomann Music Ovation OP24… this will give you pictures of it’s separate parts. The tricky part is removing the face plate. First remove the vol, low, mid and high knobs… you may want to save these. The face plate is probably glued so you’ll have to use some type of razor blade tool to pry it off, but don’t worry about damaging it because one comes with the new pick-up. Once you get it off, remove the 4 corner screws that hold the mounting plate to the pick-up. From there you can see what else needs to be done. Hope that helps.

I have an applause AE-31 guitar, serial # is 039291. I can’t seem to find anything other than AE-32. From what I can tell it was probably made it 1975, or 76. Anyone ever come across these?

      MIKe

I have an AE31 I bought it new from Rose Morris years ago its OK a nice guitar, about a year ago one was for sale in Germany I think the guy got about 70 euros for it I think it must be worth more than that, but the market dictates, good luck mike.

    1. applause aa24-1
      george jones

I have one. I took it to a local guitar store. The owner told me it was worth about $400. I decided to do internet research and found this site and your question. I
found one that sold for $500 in 2009. Another site said that Applause shipped production overseas in 1982. Mine was made in Connecticut. So mine was made prior to 1982. I bought mine used in the 1980’s I think. Now if I could just find someone willing to pay $400!

  19. Takamine F360SD?????
    Wes Calvin

I’ve had this guitar for 15 years or more. The serial # indicates 1977.
There is no visible model # though. Judging by the pictures of discontinued models on the Takamine web site, this because of the coloring, I take it to be an F369SD. How can I confirm this and is it worth anything? Thanks for your help!

I too bought mine about 1980 or so, it cost about $189. I use it for camping and things where I don’t have to worry about bumping it. The aluminum neck is awesome sounding! I’d love to see this neck used on new guitars.

          1. I own one too
            JulienFromFrance

            I do have one too since about 15 years. AE14 (S/N 129237)
Was given to me by my mother in law. It previously belonged to my wife’s dad who was a famous guitarist in the city I live in, but unfortunately I have never had the chance to meet him, gone too soon…
Surfing on internet, I just dicovered that this guitar was somehow as old as me. Wow, I did not realized until now that she was this old…
Mine is electrified, but the sound once plugged is not that good… Huge noise in the background, and too much treble… Hard to record something clean… It’s better with an external studio microphone than with the piezo inside.
The frets are a bit flat, old and used, but I love the sound and the easyness of the neck. A very pleasant and comfortable instrument…
Does anyone know if it is a solid top and what wood it is ?
I also wonder what exact year it was manufactured.

Thanks in advance for any information.

: What year was this made? Was it made in usa? ( sounds good htough)

I bought mine new In 1985, and Im still playing It In the studio, and at live gigs. She sounds sweeter every time I play her. And the fact that she was made here In the USA Is Icing on the cake. The decision to discontinue this model Was a stupid move In my opinion.

Hi. I bought an Applause AE-36 brand new with a hardcase from a dealership in 1988. The price then was about $200. It’s an okay guitar, holds a tune well, but not the greatest sound. Sometimes it can be a bit twangy. The worth of your guitar depends entirely on the condition. Mine is in almost mint condition today, but I don’t think I could sell it fo any more than $100. I’ve seen too many less expensive acoustics with better sound than this on puts out, but the peizo electronics help keep it’s price.

        Louie

Hello anyone, I recently purchased an Applause 12 string sight unseen. Unfortunately when it arrived all the wiring inside had been cut. The nut had been broken and the saddle was missing. Okay so everything is fixed except the wiring. I cannot find anything about the wiring on line it is a passive system (no battery). Any considerations on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Louie:>) Please email [email protected]
