: I have an Ovation Applause AE136 cutaway I cant seem to find any information online about this? Does anyone know anything about this guitar made in Korea.

just that the one i have was bought in ’87 or ’88. i just had it rebuilt w/new frets and a reattached head and it sounds sweet.

I have some pictures of that model. It has a different head then a
normal applause or Ovation, not the usual round peak but a fork. Is
        that normal?

I’ve got an ovation ae-136 too. I bought it new in Germany about 10 years ago. Yes it is supposed to have a forked head. It should also have ‘ping’ closed machine heads. Mine has always played well, Just had the nut professionally replaced (was chipped. They were so impressed that they lowered the bridge for free. It now sounds and plays even better than my new pinnacle cu 247 which I bought to replace it. Ovation are USA made, they also build applause in Korea (cheaper production costs, but mine is living proof that the quality is just as good. Don’t ever sell it!

I recently purchased a sea-foam green <not original color> Fender jag for three hundred, Its bound, dot neck indicates pre-66. Instead pf on/off switches for eack pickup<the switches on top> it has volume controls that act as habd tremolos. Weir things. Anyway, was three hundred a good deal?

    Hello,

I am owning an Applause Electric Guitar with two Humbuckers. There is no Serial-Number or any information on this guitar.
Someone told me, that this could be an Applause AR25T. Is this right? Or are there any other possibilities?
Can you give me any information about this model? When was it built? Thanks for any information.

I have a GTX 53 bass, which is also black with white inlays. I was just as curious about the bass as any other GTX bass owner I have met. So a couple years back I did a little research and found that the company no longer exists. However, it was a sub-company to Kaman Music. So after emailing Kaman Music with the same concern, they responded and told me:

The GTX basses were manufactured in Korea between 1990 and 1994. The bass models included:

AM50 – Canadian maple neck and fingerboard with black dot inlay pattern, classic single center-mounted split pickup, master volume and tone controls, front-mounted input jack, chrome hardware. Available in black, red and sunburst finishes. Retail price ranged from $299.50 – 359.50 USD.

AM51 – Same specs as the AM50 but available in additional color finishes of metallic red, white, metallic blue and fire grey. Retail price ranged from $299.50 – $359.50 USD.

AR53 – Laminated Indonesian mahogany body, Canadian maple neck, Indian rosewood fingerboard with “mountain-style” inlays, 2 covered pickups (1 split XK220, 1 rail XK240) with separate volume controls and all black hardware. Available in black, metallic blue, fire grey and day-glow pink finishes that retailed at $419.50 USD. Special finishes included crackle blue, crackle silver, crackle wine, white splatter on black and snakeskin on ivory all listed at $449.50 USD.

Honestly, if you still have one, hold onto it. Due to it’s discontinuation and lack of information, it is not a well known brand name on the streets. However, I can assure you that the select few lucky individuals that I have met who also own GTX basses of varying models, all agree that they are worth more to them than anyone could pay. They are very rare and unique instruments, which play unlike any other bass.

        I hope this helped.

I was able to find more info on the GTX-53. It’s an AR Series. The AR Series bass guitars have a unique, sleek body shape, with a beveled treble cutaway to help reach those high notes. The AR53 also has all black hardware, with precision cast Ping tuning machines. Total sound control is achieved through a covered XK220 split pickup in the middle position, and a covered high output XK240 rail pickup in the bridge position. Each pickup is individually controlled with its own volume control, allowing infinite control and blend of the unique sounding middle and bridge pickups. The AR53 has an Indian Rosewood fingerboard with use yes mountain-style inlays mounted on a Canadian Maple neck. An yes, the body is laminated Indonesian Mahogany. Also all GTX models have a triple buffed scratch and mar resistant polyester finish

      1. Kaman Applause AR-53 Bass
        Anonymous

I know this thread is old, but I have some information that might interest everyone. I have Ovation electric guitars. I learned about, and wanted a “Celebrity by Ovation” BC-2 Bass. I found one and bought it, but I soon learned that it has a different body shape, more frets and a different control knob alignment than other BC-2 basses. After exhaustive research, I discovered that this is a Kaman Applause AR-53 Bass. It has the exact body, neck, number of frets and control knob alignment as the AR-53. It is also blue, which was not offered on the BC-2, but was a standard color on the AR-53. It is exactly an AR-53. The only problem is, that it has “Celebrity by Ovation” printed on the headstock and it has a Celebrity BC-2 neck plate. Apparently, Kaman switched names on their various guitars. I don’t know why, but BC-2s were only made in 1987 and AR-53s were only made in the early 90s. My bass seems to be a BC-2, badged bass, made in the early 90s. Also, I hear the BC-2 had an alder body while the AR-53 had a laminated mahogany body. This changes everything we know about these models. Do you think you have a BC-2, but it is an AR-53? Is a crossover, like mine, worth more or less than a standard one? A lot of questions.

I found a very old Suzuki accoustic, M of P keys and handcut M of P fret markings. It has a certificate of authenticity inide (faded) that shows it was the ninth guitr made. I know its not a fake because there are remnants of a very old "icecream" lady sticker on the back. I believe it must be from approx 1930’s. Anyone have any idea as to what it might be worth? My 1511 from Conneticut (Im in Britain) has Serial no. 279065 which is earlier than anything else. I just had the electrics looked at and the technician says it has a 70’s pre-amp in it, suggesting it was made earlier than 1983. Do yours have the reinforced wood neck which has been pre-leached in a hardener ?

          Plays like a priceless songbird.

        Sangio007

I believe that this model was only produced for 1 year in the mid 1980’s (1983 I think)and they made ony 482 according to my information so I would imagine in decent shape it would fetch near $300-350 mostly due to the limited number produced. I do have one and it is in great condition, I might sell it as well in the next couple of weeks on EBay if anyone is interested in buying it before hand let me know.
        Thank you.

          1. Re: Ovation Ultra Series model 1511
            Sangio007

According to the Ovation web site the serial number range for 1983 was 291457 through 302669. Ultra 1511’s were only made in 1983 and only 429 were produced ever and the serial numbers would have to be in that range. Let me know if you find out anything else on this.

            1. serial number
              MacDonald

Agree with others, the serial number range is incorrect. I own No. 286176. Headstock is dinged, finish is cracked, electronics are kaput, but I wouldn’t trade it for love nor money.

            2. Re: Ovation Ultra Series model 1511
              C.W. Hamilton

You may be a bit off on the SN range. I bought a nice Ultra on ebay a couple years ago, the SN # was 281151. The impressive thing about the guitar is that it seems to never go out of tune. I play it for a while, put it in a case and mess with other guitars for 3 or 4 months…come back and the thing is still ready to play right out of the case.

      1. GTX 53 Bass
        Anonymous

The Applause GTX 53 bass was made from 1989 to 1992. The neck has 24 frets, Ping tuners, 34″ scale. It is wired like a Standard P/J bass with a Jazz style pickup at the bridge and a Precision style pickup at the neck.

Use Seymour Duncan Std P/J wireing diagram:

        http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=std_p_j_bass

The two knobs closest to the neck are volume controls; the knob closest to the rear is a tone control.

Serial numbers seem to be 537xxx.

Colors include blue, black, teal, fire gray, silver crackle.

        Catalog is here:

  14. No Model or Serial # on Samick
    Virgil

Help me identify? I recently purchased a Samick, it looks like a Chet Atkins style sorta 335 maybe. It is not an arch top , but a flat top that has 2 x double humbucking pu’s, 1 volume, 1 tone control,a three way toggle, has a candy apple finish front and back, on back of neck and on headstock as well, a rosewood neck, and the only identifying marks anywhere on this is the name Samick on the headstock. It is in near mint condition and is of a fine construction. Has white pearl border around body. Has anyone got any idea as to how I would find any further info on this instrument. It is a beauty to play and even better to look at. Trying to find a model #. Thank you all.

      Chris,
I purchased my Balladeer, Model 1111-1, back in 1973. I paid $252 (with hardshell case), plus about ten bucks tax. What is it worth today? I’ve seen them on line for about $350 – $400.
