Re: Yamaha FG 450 SC ??????? COST????????/

Guitar is great. Good sound for bluegrass and some country music. Neck has a real smooth feel to it which makes playing seem more at ease. I highly recommend this guitar. Had mine since 1983 still play it all the time today.

SA-900

I just bought a Yamaha SA-900. I am very pleased with it overall, but I can find nothing about the instrument save a listing on the Yamaha Japanese web site which I can't read. Anyone have any information they could send me? Thanks!

Re: SA-900

Just an update. I talked with Yamaha via email yesterday and the guy seemed to think I was on drugs or something. I guess he didn't recognize the model number. Turns out this is apparently a model that was never sold here in the US markets. For those of you that are interested and can read Japenese I found the guitar on the Yamaha Japanese web site at:

http://www.yamaha.co.jp/product/guitar/eg/database/sa/02/sa-900.html

I still don't know squat about the guitar because I can't read this (and I am no guitar guru). I converted the web page to English via the babel fish web site and here is what I found (with some strange conversions:

SA-900
Price of sale that time = \80,000
Chord length = 628mm (22f)
Microphone = カバードハンバッキング (alnico V) ×2
Control = 2v and 2t, microphone SW
Torso = The Cub + Buna
Medium core = Alder
Pole = Mahogany
Finger board = Rose
Torso - pole = Set neck
Bobbin = Die-cast make torque adjustment attaching * chrome
Chord = Light/write gauge
Weight = 3.7kg
Color = Brown sunburst, パーシモンレッド, black To
1983 year sale to around 1988 sale

Anyhow, it don't play like a $300 guitar so I think I did OK.

Yamaha AE 2000 for sale !!!

I posted this as a reply to another message but I guess it needs a heading of its own. I am selling my AE-2000. Minus one tuning head and the pickguard. So if anyone out there has the tuning head and the pickguard come and buy the rest !! The harmony-central.com review of this instrument says this is the finest Japanese built electric/jazz guitar ever and I would personally leave out the word "Japanese" from that statement having owned a few vintage Gibsons in my time. Having said all that, it would work better if I could find that knob. Who's got it???

: Hi.looking for an FG-580. please contact at tiptop3734@aol.com

I have one, but not sure I want to sell it. What is it worth on the market?

Re: wanted yamaha fg-580

I bought a FG 580 in 1975, stiil have it. Increbible guitar. I paid $200 canadian , new. Today I could not replace it for probably less than $4000. I have played $4000 Martin guitars that would not hold a candle to mine.

Re: wanted yamaha fg-580

Hi, I have an FG-580 in great condition. I have had a hard time finding information about it though (for example, how much it's worth). Any info. you have would be greatly appreciated.

Bill, did you ever find out anything about value? I have one also and am looking for a value estimate. If you did, send me a note.

Re: wanted yamaha fg-580

Hi, here is some information regarding FG-580.

Year(s) Sold: 1972
Original MSRP: $ 185.00
Top: Spruce
Back / Sides: Jacaranda
Neck / Fingerboard: / Ebony

The top is solid spruce.
The side is a laminate but the back is solid 2 piece Jacaranda (Brazilian Rosewood). Needless to say, it's beautiful. Unfortunately, for some unknown reason, the value of the guitar is not terribly high. The going price in US is about $400-500. Inspite of the fact that the back alone will cost twice that in raw state to produce a new guitar. The craftsmanship that went in is next to none and the resulting sound is superb if you are capable of listening to it with an unbiased ears.

Re: wanted yamaha fg-580

All the info is about correct and I'm quite surprised about the original value...???...In Canada, I paid 580 bucks for this in 1972 and at that time Canadian funds were about equal to US funds......A Martin D-18 at that time would have cost me about 750 bucks... Investment wise it was not a great deal as a D-18 today that vintage would be worth considerable more, however, my 580 has aged well and today it sounds as good as any Martin I've played or heard....I am a bluegrass fanatic and am surrounded by d-18's,
35's etc etc, including two Martins of my own.. I still prefer to play the old 580....Sell it????.. I suppose I would if the price was right, but, it would have to be at least double the current US value...Cosmetically, it has a few marks cause I played it semi-pro from 1972 to 1999....If you can get one, I would suggest you go for it..You won't be sorry if you can find someone to part with it....

Re: info on FG-340 II guitar

: I HAVE A FG-340 BUT NOT II BOUGHT IT AROUND 1965, AM TOLD IT WAS BETTER MADE THAN YANAHA GUITARS POST THAT PERIOD. CURIOUS ON HOW MUCH IT IS WORTH. SON PLAYING IT NOW....

Re: info on FG-340 II guitar

they're worth about 200. fg-340 are from about 1977 and fg-340II about 1981. they weren't making acoustics until 1969, so i think 65 isn't right. these guitars ARE better than newer yamahas

Re: info on FG-340 II guitar

:I have a Yamaha FG 340-II and it really sounds great. I got it from a friend hus dad left it to him. Now im using it. I wonder how much does dis cost right now. Its the best guitar i ever used, compared to my Morris W-20.

Yamaha SA-5

anyone know how I can date my SA-5 from the serial number?

Re: Yamaha SA-5

: anyone know how I can date my SA-5 from the serial number?
You can't because the Yamaha serial number database only keeps records of the last 10 years.
The SA-5 models where built in the years 1966-1967. They where based on the design of the Gibson ES-335. Yamaha stopped the production of this model after 1967 because of legal problems with Gibson.

Armin

I own a FG-465. That is actually a dove on the headstock. That guitar was played by James Taylor in the 80's. I paid $500.00 for mine in '88.
