DEAD MINT 1969 FG-140

I have a 1969 Yamaha FG-140 that is in museum quality condition. All original with killer low action, no fret buzzing, no splits, no cracks, no repairs, nada. The only thing you can see if you postion the guitar a certain way into the light, are a couple small pick scrapes not into the poly coating surface around the top of the sound hole. The frets were cleaned at some point before I bought the guitar, but other than that this guitar looks as if someone has just picked it off the wall at your local guitar store, circa 1969. I can provide all the pictures you want if anyone wants to see it. The amazing thing when I got the guitar was that it came with no case. All these years and no case. Go figure. The serial number inside the soundhole has three markings at the beginning that look like question marks (???) and then 054 and then what looks like 69 in smaller print. May be 68. Hard to tell, but from the research I've done all other FG-140's I've seen with similiar headstock and RED soundhole label are 69's. Must have been a very early one I assume. I have never seen serial number markings like it before. Unless someone has one under a bed somewhere I doubt very seriously that there is another one any available anywhere near this good a condition. This is no doubt one for a collector. I'm almost afraid to play it, and it doesn't get played much at all. Plays and sounds awesome though. Anyone got an idea of what it would be worth? I don't get to this board much because I forget to come here, so you might want to email me instead of posting. Thanks.....

Re: DEAD MINT 1969 FG-140

I, too, have the same guitar (FG-140)in similar condition and am the original owner. This weekend (Sept 12 & 13) is the Great American Guitar Show in Philly and am taking the Yami to be fitted to a nice hard case and to try to get an idea on its value. Don't think I'll part with it, tho, since I recently compared it to a friends Martin D-28 and it sounds and plays nearly as good. I've been watching ebay on this guitar and similar ones of the FG series and they sell for as much as $400 recently. One seller of instruments claims that collector/price-wise the early FG's are peaking right now.

Re: DEAD MINT 1969 FG-140

Here's something interesting... as said earlier, I have the same red label FG-140 except there is no serial number on the first brace. At the neck block the number is T0037964. The red label, most interestingly, is typical; but the Nippon is not printed on it. What does anybody make of dem apples? I've had this guitar at least 35 years and know for a fact it's a Yami. Headstock logo and truss plate are all typical.

Re: DEAD MINT 1969 FG-140 and Fran

:Hi, I also have an FG-140 red label with only Nippon Gakki on the label and a number on the neck block. I have been curious as to the age of the guitar, but don't know where to look as everyone tells me it is not listed in their guitar year books. It looks rather ugly but sounds very good. I had a man offer to trade me is D-35 Martin for it straight across in the seventies. Do you know where to look up the age??

Wanted - Older Yamaha FGs

I'm looking for any RED LABEL, but especially the FG-180 and FG-300. Also I would love to have any FG-1000j, FG-1200j, FG-1500, FG-2000. Email me at cheapnotes@yahoo.com with what you have and a price. A picture would be great if you have one.

Re: Wanted - Older Yamaha FGs

I have a Yamaha FG-300 Red Label. It's missing the pickguard so I could sell it for cheap if you are interested.

Please help

Hope someone can help. I recently bought an old yamaha acoustic guitar but unfortunately the label has been torn in half and so I can not identify the model.
The model finshes in 50. From the ID number I know it was made in 65, 75, 85, 95 or 2005. It is definitely not 2005. From the wear on the neck I do not think it is 95. The stockhead is the v cut and has an eagle logo (looking like a Y) on it below the yamaha name. I can provide photos if that would help, but can anybody tell what model this guitar is?

Cheers
P

Re: Please help

Update on this is that I now think the model number is a 450 and the Guitar was made in Taiwan so that appears to date it as 1985 onwards.

I have a CJ838S from the late 70's so I'm told. Very nice quality jumbo with very rich tones. Pretty rare. Not many made from what I've learned. What is the "II" part of the 838 that you have? How much did you pay for it?

1967 FG-335 Made on Valentines day

I have a FG-335 guitar that I bought second hand from someone back in 1987. A lady that worked with me, she told me that the guitar was 20 years old. From my estimation, that would make it approximately 40 years old.
Went to the Yamaha guitar website, punched in the serial, and found out it was built on Valentines day, 1967.
Does anyone have any idea what it is worth now? I paid $75 for it back in 87.
Thanks

red label fg 180 Japan?

are the older fg 180's that have the red label but don't say "nippon gakki" made in Japan? If they are is there any difference in quality? I heard they were made in Taiwan if they don't say "nippon gakki" but I don't know if it's true.
