Re: Yamaha SJ 180
just bought a pristine sj-180 today off of craigslist with serial #22017055 which seems to indicate, via yamaha seial # wizard that it was produced in 1982....or 1992 as the serial #s run in 10 year cycles. i am pretty sure that these guitars were produced only until 1991 which makes mine an '82.
as for value...it's relative, but these guitars really age well and have a clean, even, and somewhat jangly 70's tone which i love! not many people want to give them up . i got mine for$95 with a hard case, and even equipped with a pickup which was a nice bonus. set it up with some martin medium phosphor bronze strings and the sound is clear and bright with the action easy for finger pickin'. made in taiwan but with the yamaha chrome cast tuners it stays in tune well. love this guitar and i will never sell this one.
